The service tech, Bolivar, new the name and model number of the fireplace by eyesight coming into the room. He quickly diagnosed the problem, left the unit more usable than it was when he arrived, gave me a close quotation on a new replacement part which was reconfirmed by a follow up call from East Coast the following day. The part, not in stock, was ordered and installed 11 days later. Considering the extreme cold temperatures we were having in New Jersey in January 2018 the delay was reasonable if not expected. I have to emphasize again Bolivar left my ‘broken’ fireplace completely, and better usable than it had been. Bolivar also knew this unit inside & out. I had a previous repair to a part of the pilot assembly a few years ago, with a different company, and I knew it is a pain in the butt to replace. Bolivar was exacting and methodical in his approach completing the repair in approximately 1/2 hour, including cleaning up. This was not an inexpensive repair and my only complaint is my misunderstanding the pricing. I was originally given a price to have the problem diagnosed and subsequently a separate price on the part, which makes sense. However, I misunderstood the pricing on the part as the inclusive price on the whole job. My mistake not theirs and in reality it was close to other quotes received. I would definitely use East Coast Fireplace for service again.
Description of Work: Replaced the gas pilot assembly in my Mendota DXV42 fireplace.

I met Mike Gesualdo, president of East Coast Plumbing & Heating, when a realtor referred him to me to replace a washer/dryer at my rental property. I didn't know any plumbers because my rental property is in new Jersey, and I currently live in California. It is a large 160 year old house divided into 5 apartments. Since that day, I have considered myself extremely fortunate to have met Mike. He is absolutely the very best plumber, but also as honest and trustworthy as they come, and will help with anything he can. My tenants all know and trust him. They all have his phone number and call him when there's a plumbing problem and I am completely comfortable with that. I have had many problems with such a big old house, and Mike understands my situation and is always happy to help. When he is at the house working, he lets me know anytime he sees something that needs attention so I can get it taken care of before it gets big. Since that first day, he has made so many improvements to the house that I can't thank him enough. The boilers were so old that one was falling apart as they carried it up from the basement. I knew they all needed replacing, but not until I met Mike did I know I had found someone I could trust to do it right and for a fair price. Mike not only gave me a fair price but did over and above what I thought would be done. He just does things the right way all the time. Between the basement and the remodeled gorgeous bathroom, he has added so much value to the house and I am forever grateful to him. NEW JERSEY NEEDS TO KNOW MIKE! You will see what I mean! Please call him so you too will never have to worry about a plumbing problem again. This is the least I can do for a company that has helped me so much.

Of all the contractors that we hired over the past 12 months, no one else came even CLOSE to the high level of service provided by Mike and the East Coast Plumbing team. He was ALWAYS on time and ALWAYS totally honest. The working conditions were ugly. Our home was ravaged by Sandy, with 3 feet of disgusting water throughout our small ranch home. Mike and his team never complained about the "conditions". He even provided temporary heaters for all of the contractors, not just his own crew. He was extremely helpful in every way possible. He is proud of his work, and he should be. When I asked for something "different" than he would normally provide, he listened, explained why he would not do it that way, but also respected my final decision and made it happen the way I wanted it. The work required totally setting up a new heating system. We previously had Oil heat and Mike installed a new Gas installation. We have never used gas appliances before, and Mike patiently explained how everything worked. The majority of the work was completed by July. When I called him in September for a quick refresher on how to use the new gas fireplace the first time I used it, he reminded me that I need to leave a window slightly open to keep the carbon monoxide level in check, as it is a Vent Free fireplace. The next morning, Mike called to be sure that everything went well with our first Fireplace Experience.....WHO DOES THAT??? Bottom line: reliable, responsible, professional, great value, and a neat-freak to boot! When you need a plumber, don't bother going to anyone else.
Description of Work: Installation of all heating, A/C, bathroom fixtures, from the ground up to replace all plumbing destroyed by Hurricane Sandy.

I had Mike from East Coast come to my home 5/21/12 for a garbage disposal issue. He was a contractor assigned by my home warranty company. He pointed a flashlight into the drain and told me there was a piece of metal in the blades, I stuck MY hand down the drain and pulled it out and he turned around and charged me $149. I was amazed.Because it was a "home warranty" call it should have been my $60 deductible only unless he got approval to do more. Then, as I went to write him a check he ASKED me for cash. Stupidly, I gave him $120 cash and forgot to get a receipt. Since then I have requested a receipt 4 times, been told it would be mailed and received nothing. I will let the fact go that he overcharged me, asked for non-re portable cash and did NOTHING, but I have asked for documentation for my own records and gotten nothing. I would never use nor recommend these people again.
