Please be advised that this company takes advantage of homeowners who aren't familiar with homeowner claims procedures. They have a referral process with Progressive where they come out to do the work before the claim is even approved… then bill the homeowner twice as much as they would charge Progressive if the claim gets denied…they also only send bill, then sent it straight to collections.

Description of Work: We had a garage fire and the insurance company sent Paul Davis to do the work. I was initially told that the work would start in 1 week and take approximately 2 weeks to complete. They did not start the project for 3 weeks (when they were supposed to be finished) and the project took them 8 weeks to complete. The quality of the workmanship was horrible. They attempted to get away with placing the ceiling joists at 19"" and 29"" every 48"" instead of the industry standard of 16"" oc so they had to tear the entire ceiling back out and re-frame it. The exterior wall sheeting was improperly installed so they had to tear that out and redo it and again they did it wrong. The third time was acceptable. The soffit and fascia were not framed correctly so that had to be torn out and redone. When they redid it, they apparently did not have enough lumber with them so they used architectural cedar out of my lumber stack that was intended for adding a new deck. The cedar they used of mine was never replaced or paid for so I lost several hundred dollars there. They also never replaced the soffit venting so now I will have to do that myself before condensation in the attic ruins the new ceiling. The garage door was replaced before the ceiling drywall so they cut the drywall around the angles supporting the garage door track and opener. This looks horrible and would have actually been easier for them if they had done it right. When the drywall was installed on the walls, instead of moving the single wood step between the garage and kitchen door, and drywalling all the way to the bottom plate of the wall, they just cut the drywall around the wood step. Then when I complained about it, they installed a piece of base shoe trim along the top edge of the stair. As if that was not bad enough, they actually charged me extra for the base shoe and installation. The vinyl siding was installed on two walls and did not line up with the existing walls at all. They removed it all and re-did it and on the second try the corners lined up properly but the siding did not cover the full height of the wall properly. They removed it and put it up again for the third time and the bottom still did not line up with the existing walls but I gave up on that one and settled for the substandard work just to get them out of my life. The aluminum trim they installed around the garage door looked horrible. The corners did not line up and the trim sagged over an inch in the length of the door. Even the profile of the trim was not made to match the existing. They had to tear that back off and redo it. After finally getting the trim right, they reinstalled the garage door weather stripping and I can see light all the way around three sides of the door. The rubber of the weather stripping is over an 1/8"" away from touching the door. The screen door was replaced with one that was about 1/3 of the quality as the original one. They had to remove that and replace it with the door that we had agreed to just a few hours prior to the installation of the wrong one. It took us 9 man hours to pickup all of the stainless steel screws in the lawn from the pergola that they demoed and this was after the second time that they told me the cleanup was done. Just yesterday, 3 months after they claimed to be finished, the snow had all melted and I spent another 3 hours picking sharp little scraps of aluminum from the soffit and fascia installation out of the lawn. I opened the attic door in the garage for the first time since they left and the smell of smoke is so strong that you can hardly stand it. Apparently the thousands of dollars paid for cleaning, treating, and sealing of the garage framing was a waste of my money as well. This is the one thing that I would have assumed a ""fire restoration"" company could do right. They tried over charging for everything by padding the square footage. For example, I have a 20' x 22' garage (440 sq ft) yet they attempted to charge for 720 sq ft. And that is just one example of the overcharging. The process of coming to an agreement on the final payment took over 60 days and I still feel that I was charged in excess of $4000 to much. The whole experience was nothing short of a nightmare that I will never forget as long as I live. Paul Davis Restoration should never be hired to do anything if you value your property and your sanity.

It went very well. The house was on the market and I was relocating to another state in 5 days after the leak occurred. The majority of the work was performed after I departed, but the contractor kept constant contact with me and the insurer during the whole process.

It was a Sunday afternoon and I discovered water in my basement. I had not been downstairs for several days and the water had spread to most of the carpet in the entire finished portion of the basement. The sump pump had failed and when I called my insurance company they told me I had a 500 deductible and to just keep receipts. So, I asked around and Paul Davis had the best reputation around. I called them and within 2 hours they had a truck there and supper time all the pad had been removed and the fans were operating. The quality of the work was excellent and they were extremely helpful. It was not until the next day that I discovered that the claims guy was mistaken and I did not have any coverage. So, I had to eat the entire bill which was a bit over the top. Each fan cost me $30 per day for rental. Everything else was very expensive. The entire project took 4 hours from 2 guys. 10 fans rented for 3 days. A dehumidifier running for 3 days and the cost was over $2000. The estimate for relaying new pad and cleaning the carpet is another $1500. If I had known I did not have insurance coverage I would have had some friends come over and help me tear out the wet carpet and gone to United Rentals and rented some fans and we could have done the whole thing for less than half the cost. Lesson learned.
Description of Work: They tore the carpet pad out of my basement and hauled it away. They moved the furniture and blocked everything so it would dry out. The removed some trim so it would dry out. They left behind 10 big fans and a dehumidifier to dry the basement and came back each day and tested everything until it was completely dry.
