I looked on Angie's List for a recommended appliance repair man, but didn't find one listed. I had been on on online ad site recently and remembered seeing an ad on their for appliance repair on there and gave them a call. When I called they were quick to fit us in their schedule, which we appreciated because we had food defrosting very quickly. Clinton asked for directions - and this experience alone should have had me rethinking hiring him. I think I spent 10 minutes explaining how to get to our house (a total of 4 turns!). He confused and repeated back what I said so many times. It was a bit frustrating. He should have just used google maps or mapquest. One thing they were good at was staying in touch and letting us know when they would arrive. They had to go for a part somewhere else (across town?) and called to let us know they were running late. That was nice. While they were on their way to our house Clinton's brother called and my husband picked up the line. After talking to my husband, Clinton's brother was able to diagnosis the problem without coming out and let us know that he wouldn't recommend repairing it, that it would cost more than the freezer was worth to fix it. Why didn't Clinton do that? Clinton came (on time) and didn't even look at our freezer, just asked questions (good ones) and gave us a diagnosis (a correct one). Then he opened the freezer to verify his diagnosis (which was the same as his brothers - it probably wasn't worth fixing). The cherry on top of this unlovely situation was when I verified how much I needed to write the check for. I asked how much I owed and he said, "$70, well it's $69.95, but you can make it out for $70". What business man is going to tell you to round up his fee?! Very unprofessional. I felt like Clinton could have given us a repair quote over the phone and saved us $70, but been added to our "person to call if we need an appliance repaired." He failed the test and we won't be calling him again.
Description of Work: Our 20 year old upright freezer wasn't staying cold so I searched on an online ad site for a "new" one. I noticed a repair advertisement for Uptown Appliances and thought we would try to get our freezer fixed rather than buy a new one. They came out and diagnosed the problem (needed a refill of gas) but it would have cost $80 and would only last 2 to 3 years so we didn't think it worth it and didn't proceed.
