This was a horrible, but learning, experience. The agent we dealt with was Betty Norman. The realtor was recommended to us by another agent in my hometown. We contacted the agent and she recommended a duplex and we met her there the next day. We decided on a single family home and we went to her office. We looked at about 7 different properties. Then we found a house and asked to look at it. At first she advised us not to but then she showed it to us. We fell in love with the house and decided to make an offer. The agent made out an offer but we didn't agree with it and asked her to change some things. She said it was a standard offer. But we altered the inspection disclaimer. We were firm on our offer price and advised us to pay the asking price. (We found out later this was because the selling agent was also in her office and she said, "Our company has a responsibility to the sellers.") After we went back and forth with the seller a few times, we told her we wanted to find a different house and that we were walking away from this property. She told us this was a stupid thing to do that it was a great buy. This house had been on the market for almost a year. After a week the sellers accepted our offer. We then began the processing for closing. We arranged a home inspection, which revealed some issues. Some major and some not so major. One that we asked to be fixed was the garbage disposal. The listing said there was a disposal in place. Instead, the inspector found no disposal and an open electrical box. We asked for a disposal to be put in. The agent said this was too minor to ask for. However, we told her the listing said it had one and we wanted it to be resolved. It eventually was put in. There were also some siding issues and some other small things that we said that we would take care of. She asked which lawyer we wanted to use and I told her the one we wanted to use in Greenville. She asked were we sure we wanted to use one out of town. I said yes. She said it would be inconvenient for the sellers because it was an hour away. We got our financing in order and told her we wanted to close on May 24th. I worked closely with the bank over the next few weeks. When the bank said they had everything ready to send to the lawyer I called the lawyer to confirm the closing date. They told me that they didn't have anything for us and to call our agent. When I called, she said I told her I was going to schedule the closing. That was aboslutely not true. Why would I schedule it when it's her job to do so and she's getting paid to handle all of it. So we get to closing day. Closing went well, except that the agent didn't remind us to get the check from the lawyer from the sellers. So we had to make arrangements to do so at a later day. Also, when we arrived at the house with our keys in hand; the key she gave us would not open the door. We called her and she said that there was nothing she could do because she was still in the town where we closed having dinner with her daughter. So we called the agency to see if there was a manager/owner to talk to. We managed to get in contact with the owner's son who referred us back to the agent. After numerous phone calls to our agent, (where she wouldn't answer and ignore our calls) we were able to get in touch with the selling agent and she said she would help us. Finally! We had appliances on the way and no way to get into our house. Our agent told us that it wasn't her responsibility because it technically wasn't our house until the following day when the papers were filed at the courthouse. After talking to 3 different people, Betty said that her husband was on the way to our house to get the key out of the lockbox on the door. He arrived almost 2 hours later and got the key for us. Since that day we never heard a word from her. Most agents at least send a thank you card or housewarming gift, from her, nothing. However she did take the time to send out a letter to every house in our neighborhood telling them that she was able to sell a house that had been on the market for almost a year.
Description of Work: Assist with the purchase of our home. We found the house but they represented us durng purchase.
