The first hint of trouble started with my asking how we should pay for heating the private pool, which had been advertised for $350/week. We went back and forth for a week, with Sun Realty refusing to turn on the heat because ""it's ?ugust and not necessary." I ?xplained that we have small grandchildren and prefer a heated pool, were willing to pay the $350, and nothing in the ad said heat was available only when Sun Realty thought it was necessary. Finally, just days before our arrival, they agreed to heat the pool. When we arrived on Sunday, 3 rooms had no electrical power, and while the kids were showering, the tub filled up with water, and never drained. The repairman came about noon the next day, was very pleasant and did a good job. On Tuesday, some of the toilets were clogged and we worked at them with a plunger. In the evening, we ran the dishwasher (top floor), and the toilet in the basement overflowed with sewage. We cleaned up as best we could and called emergency maintenance, and after 2 hours, called back to find out when the repairman would come. We were told that although they had tried, no one was calling back as all of the "24 hour on-call emergency repairmen'' had gone to bed for the evening (9 pm), but someone would come out first thing in the morning. About 9:30am and again at 10:30am, I called the company for status. They said someone was on their way, and the cleaning crew would follow right after. Turned out the septic tank needed to be pumped out, a 20-minute job that turned out to be over 2 hours. The Realty company explained they don't check these tanks, because it all depends on how many people occupy the house, etc. I guess they always wait until the septic overflows into the house? Nice. We had ten people in this house who waited nearly 16 hours to flush toilets - two menstruating females, one pregnant woman, and 3 grandchildren. Not good. It is now Thursday morning, and we are still waiting for someone to come and clean the downstairs bathroom. I spoke with the Manager at Sun Realty and explained that in my opinion, they could check lighting and plumbing every week, when they come to clean the house for the next tenant. I also suggested they consider checking the septic tanks at least once a year to prevent overflow into the house. I mentioned I was disappointed, as I have paid nearly $5500 to rent a house for one week and have to ensure the grandbabies don't go down into the basement. It seems to me that, as a minimum, the Manager would contact us to keep us informed and to apologize for these inconveniences. $5500 is a great deal of money for us, and I had not expected to be taking care of maintenance issues or raw sewage on my vacation. As I write this, I still have sewage in the basement and therefore have an entire level of the house, with a game room, off limits. Though the Manager seems to be a very nice woman, I cannot help but be disappointed at the lack of professionalism and attention to customer satisfaction. We have 3 more days in this house, and I'm hesitant to post this now as I feel more incidents will surely happen.
Description of Work: We paid $5000 to rent a furnished house with private pool for one week near the beach in Corolla, NC for a family vacation. We tend to go just about every year, but typically use another company, Kitty Dunes Realty. We've also never paid this much money for a one week vacation, but this was a very special event, with family traveling from the UK to join us, and we wanted it to be perfect.
