When I moved in, the home was in awful condition. When the owner moved out, nothing was cleaned. The microwave, oven, carpet, and toilet seats were filthy. The owner left a over-flowing trash can by the mailbox that the garbage man would not pick up. Trash was blowing across this and neighbor's yards. I reported everything that was wrong. They did not respond to my documentation, and did not return phone calls. Finally I went to the office in person to demand a response. I had to make several visits to get problems addressed. It was so bad that I decided to chose my battles and did not demand everything be fixed although it was all clearly documented. She granted me approximately $100 "cleaning credit" which did not cover all my out-of-pocket expenses (including replacing burned out light bulbs and toilet seats (they were saturated, moldy press-board)), not to mention my time and effort to clean the whole house while also moving in. Vacuuming the carpet (only one room) took several attempts to pull up all the loose dirt, but stains still remain. When I priced carpet cleaning services it was around $100 so I decided I'd wait until I move out when I am required to clean them again and in the meantime try to find an area rug to cover it. The yard was not mowed when I moved in, and after more than a month with no response about the issue, I decided to mow it myself because the grass was more than a foot high. My mower kept clogging and stalling. Fast forward 9 months: I left a message for her to call, but went ahead and installed a wireless security system which was a significant upgrade to what was already installed. When she finally connected with me, she blew up and yelled at me for about 5 minutes. I accept the accusation that it should have been cleared it first, but she kept yelling at me. I apologized and then said as level as I could that I did not think I deserved the way she was talking to me. She did not apologize and yelled at me some more. This made me mad and I asked that the carpet be cleaned. She yelled some more, asking why did I wait until now to bring it up. I reminded her that I documented it before. She hung up on me. I have a realtor for my home I moved out of. I told her exactly what I did and how Re/Max treated me, mainly to get her constructive criticism of what happened. Let me just say my realtor's reply was much more professional. During the property manager's rant, she stated that the "cleaning credit" was more than generous! I'm afraid we don't see eye-to-eye on that matter.
