Owner Jeff Hodge founded Hodge Heating & Air Conditioning of Lake Norman with one employee in May 2000. The company was built on a foundation of promptness, professionalism and attention to detail. Todd Caccamise came to the house on time and was very professional. He discussed the use of our units and suggested improved usage techniques to increase the life of the units. He stepped outside to repair the inoperative unit and found the problem immediately. He replaced the defective part and checked and cleaned other parts. He also checked the operation of our other unit. We are "cool" again. I would use this firm again: trustworthy, reliable, professional, very reasonable rates equals outstanding service.

The air in the house stopped working today and with the heat in the low 90's today I was not happy. I looked up HVAC companies located in Huntersville on Angie's List and contacted the first 5 listed (All with an "A" rating). To my surprise only 1 responded, Hodge. They responded to my Angie's text and said they could get to my house today and to call the office to set it up. I called back and they answered right away. They said they would have the next service person that called in to go to my house. I explained I had to pick up my kids and wouldn't be home till 3:30. They said no problem and someone would call when they were on their way. At 3:30 exactly, they called and said they were on their way. They showed up 10 minutes later, introduced themselves and went to work. 15 minutes later he came to the door and said all was good. Turns out it was a bug that had gotten caught on the contact preventing power to get to the unit. He said it wasn't uncommon but I had never heard of it. Anyway, I paid the service call fee and was happy to do it. Will be using them on anything else to come up and highly recommend them. Thanks.

Update: I was unaware that a response was provided to my complaint on Hodge Heating & Air of Lake Norman Inc, but now that I have the response I want to go to the very end of his response, where I can prove he is a liar. I have a police report which was filed only because he threatened to come to my house. Not only that, but the voice mail messages he left were very disrespectful to my wife. I even went to the BBB on this guy. He is lying in the response stating that there were no records of me calling the police about his threats, when I have a copy of the police report and it is uploaded along with this review. Please note the officer actually states that he can hear Mr. Hodge yelling in an irrate manner. To prove this I have attached copies of the police report.
Description of Work: After choosing not to use Hodge Heating and Air my wife received harassing phone calls from Jeff Hodge. Hodge Heating and Air then proceeded to send us to a collections agency for refusing to pay a diagnostic fee that we were never made aware of. When contacting Jeff Hodge he stated we didn't give him the courtesy of a phone call to let him know we chose another company. He therefore charged us. Jeff went so far as to threaten that he would come to our home. Very bazaar and unfortunate situation. Not a company I would engage with to do business.

Response from Hodge Heating & Air of Lake Norman Inc
In regards to the timeline of this particular service call, it started out with [member name removed] calling stating one of her three units wasn’t working. A service technician was sent to the home to diagnose and hopefully repair the unit. While the service technician was at the home, he discovered the motor was bad on the outdoor unit. This motor was a very old style and not one we would stock on our trucks. The service technician knocked on the front door to inform the homeowner that he would have to go back to the office and make some calls to try and locate the motor. He discovered the part wasn’t available due to its age and the unit would need to be replaced. He attempted to call the homeowner, but had to leave a message. In the message, he stated the cost to replace the unit if they chose to replace it and the cost for the diagnostic fee would be $69.95. We didn’t receive a call back from the customer. The service technician left 3 messages that week without a call back in return. An invoice was then mailed out to the customer for the diagnostic fee. Three months had gone by, several messages and also statements were mailed to the home. No response to our attempts. After the 4th month, Jeff Hodge made a phone call and let them know that if we didn’t receive payment or a call from the [member name removed] that the bill would be turned into a collection company. Finally then, we received a phone call from[member name removed] stating that they would not be paying the bill because his wife “asked when she called” if there was a diagnostic fee charge and he stated Hodge Heating & Air Conditioning answer was “there was not” so they wouldn’t be paying the bill. Jeff Hodge told [member name removed] that wasn’t the case and then he called Jeff a liar. Jeff told him that he could prove that his wife was incorrect in her statement when asked about the diagnostic fee. [member name removed] was informed that the call his wife made to the office was recorded. [member name removed] said “sure you do” (which, he’s stating that Jeff lied again). Jeff played the phone message back for him. When he listened to the call, he told Jeff that was not the whole conversation. The message was then played entirely again to the customer. After listening to the call again, which proved everything he said was false,[member name removed] then told Hodge Heating & Air that he was now not paying his bill because they didn’t tell the wife that there would be a diagnostic fee charge. [member name removed] stated that he filed a complaint against Jeff Hodge and Hodge Heating & Air Conditioning and that the police were listening to our last conversation. [member name removed] also stated they were called and an officer showed up to their home. Since reading his complaint, Jeff Hodge has had contact with the Cornelius Police Department and they have no filed complaint on Hodge Heating or Jeff Hodge personally. They also checked under [member name removed] and found no calls placed into the department by them either.

Mike Hodge was our technician. We spoke on the phone and he arrived in about thirty minutes, as promised. He went right to work and stayed for almost 2 hours diagnosing the problem and then worked to clean and fix the furnace. He also explained what to do if the problem arises again as a short term fix to get the heat running. When he finished he patiently explained the good and bad news, most of which we knew was inevitable. Mike also provided a quote for a new HVAC system. I told him we'd consider Hodge when the time comes but that we would also want to get bids from others. Mike was extremely professional, and one of those guys that seems to be a genuine and honest person.
Description of Work: Furnace was not heating the house. After resetting, it would work sporadically and then shut off. Mike Hodge came out and fixed the problem, although he did say that the furnace may or may not last through the winter.

The technician came out on a holiday and was here within an hour. We were worried we would have to replace both units, but, he fixed the problem and did an overall general service. He was done in 30 minutes.
Description of Work: Both air conditioning units were not working. Michael replaced the capacitors in both units and they are humming like new.

I saw their Ad in the June Angie's List Magazine and called them. The phone was answered by Jeff and an appointment was made for the next day. I received a call that morning from Todd asking if it would be okay if they came a little early. And it was. Todd and Leo, who is in training, came and completed the A/C service. Fortunately, the system was in good shape. They were friendly, courteous , and explained what they were doing. It was a pleasant experience and I will contact them for my Fall Service or service should it be needed.

I have used several local HVAC companies, large and small, over the years in the Charlotte area. After working with Hodge, I will not call any other HVAC company to do work for me . I worked with Mike Hodge and I will recommend him to anyone looking for help with their HVAC system. We were under contract to sell this house and Mike delivered a solution just in time for the home inspection the following day. Mike walked me through everything he was doing during the diagnosis, provided me with clear explanations and gave two options for our situation. We decided to do a full system replacement (A/C and furnace) to take care of the new homeowners. Before committing to Hodge for the work, I compared the quote with another HVAC company that could not match the price. Mike and his team were able to install the replacement system the very next morning, prior to the home inspection that same afternoon. I was also very appreciative that Mike performed both the diagnosis and the actual install of the new system (from start to finish). I must mention the excellent customer service from Hodge. During the home inspection later that afternoon, the inspector had questions regarding the new system. Mike dealt directly with the home inspector and even drove back to my house to meet him in person and answer all his questions. I cannot thank Mike and the folks at Hodge Heating & Air enough for their service and professionalism. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for solutions to their HVAC issues.
Description of Work: Hodge performed diagnostic on 12 year-old upstairs A/C unit that was no longer running. The A/C unit was in a house we were under contract to sell. After discussing options, Hodge replaced the A/C system and furnace. Approximate cost includes previous service call to extend life of unit with Freon recharge.

Called Hodges for a refrigeration system inspection and someone actually answered the phone. He set me up for an appointment in 2 days which I thought was fast for an inspection. On the day of service they actually called me to let me know the technician was running a little late and he showed up a 1/2 hr later than our scheduled time. The technician (Todd) was very nice and gave my system a clean bill of health. Thanks and well done to all.

Mike Hodge came out on Christmas eve day and was to our home within an hour of my call. He looked at our heating and air unit and identified a few potential issues. Our furnace is 15 years old so it wasn't an easy unit to work on. Mike patiently helped me deal with my home warranty customer service department, and then left to retrieve a few parts from his offiice. He was back in about an hour. After an attempt to correct the issue, it didn't resolve the problem so Mike again got on the phone with my home warranty customer service department and then replaced another part leaving the one new replacement part in place at no additional cost. It works great now! I will be replacing this furnace in the future with Hodge Hating and Air. That's for keeping us going through the winter Mike! Merry Christmas!

I purchased two furnace/AC systems in the Fall of 2004 from Hodge. This Spring I was charged $125 for after hours service. When I asked why so much when others don't charge extra for after hours service I was told that Hodge didn't mark up the parts like those other companies did. The technician spent 10 minutes checking and replacing the MARS starter capacitor in one of the outside units. I was charged $80 for the capacitor. The technician told me the owner, Jeff Hodge, set the prices on the parts. I'm a retired electronics/electrical engineer and the price of the capacitor seemed like a lot, so after the technician left I researched the cost of the capacitor online, and found most places sold it retail for as little as $5 and a couple for as much as $15. So, not only was I charged a lot for after hour service, but I was lied to about the reason for the higher service charge and the cost of parts, and was charged 16 times the normal retail cost of the part that I was told they didn't mark up. The total was $205 for 10 minites and a $5 capacitor. I left feedback with Hodge two separate times asking for an explaination and expressing my concern but never heard from the owner, who I'd met several times before, or anyone else indicating that the attitude was that they had my money and that was the end of it. The worst thing, in my opinion, a company can do is lie to a customer to get moe money, and then ignore their concerns about it. It's dishonest and insulting. I recommend getting service from another company. Hodge was dishonest. Interestingly their advertising says they're rated #1. They don't say by whom, so I seriously question that claim.

We are a for profit company and the men use a flat rate pricing schedule that I provide for them.If (removed member name) can show me how to price service calls for less and still stay in business I welcome his call. I still look forward to talking with(removed member name) . Hopefully when he gets done writing every site he can find, to express his feelings ,he will just call the office and we can talk. The technician was extremely nice, very knowledgeable, and very professional. The whole experience was fantastic and I strongly recommend Hodge Heating to everyone.
Description of Work: I have one system with two zones - one upstairs and one downstairs. Only the upstairs system seemed to be getting air, which is not very efficient in the heating season. The technician came in, listened to my problem, looked at the system, and fairly quickly diagnosed the problem. (He had encountered a similar problem earlier this winter.) He had to order two replacement damper motors, and returned several days later when it was convenient for me. He fixed the problem, and the system is working great.

Great - promptly came out to give estimate. Did not try to oversell services like Brother's. Brother's indicated that we would have to replace both furnaces, increasing the price considerably. Hodge told us that they wouldn't advise replacing something that wasn't broken (yet), which I respected. Since the furnaces were very old and near the end of their lifestyle, I actually ended up having them replace. They were able to replace those at a fraction of the price of what it would cost us if they broke 1-2 years from now since they were already onsite to do the AC. The cost was less than half of what Brother's quoted us to only replace the AC units. We got the 2 AC units plus 2 furnaces for less than half of the estimate from Brother's on just the AC. Very good service -- came as scheduled and completed the work on time.

I called Hodge's to inquire about a service contract. They promptly called back and quoted me $138 dollars per year for two inspections and offered to schedule something the next day. They arrived a little before the scheduled time and quickly set to work. They replaced my filters, cleaned the AC coils, refilled the AC refrigerant, and checked the overall functionality of the unit. They were finished in about an 45 minutes. When I asked about scheduling the second service, they suggested I call back about 30 days before the heating season begins. Unfortunately, they do not have an automated system for scheduling service contract calls at this time. They charged me $69 for the one service call and $75 for the refrigerant refill.

Called at 8:00 AM and was given appointment for later in the day. The technician called before he arrived to give us an exact time of arrival. He showed up quickly found the problem and corrected it. He showed us defective part and explained what they had repaired. We found them prompt, courteous and punctual. I will use them again.

They were great. The only thing that I didn't like is they were up in the attic and didn't tell that there was a switch to be able to adjust whether the heating was more upstairs or downstairs. He didn't give me an opportunity to see that so that I could do it myself, but other than that, everything was great. They were very helpful. I intend to use them again.

The work actually ended up being under warranty. At the end of the day, I paid them their initial service call fee, which was about $70. The remainder of the labor and the parts were under warranty for the rest of the work. They were fine. They were prompt. They showed up when they said they were going to be here, which was good. The work was completed without a glitch. They had the parts in about two days. They came out and put them in, and it was up and running. It was hot in the summer, and luckily, I had two units. It was the upstairs unit which had the problem, so my downstairs was still cool, and I could put up with it for a few days. It was fine, and everything was good. I would rate them highly and would use them again in the future if necessary.

I would recommend them to others. They responded, came out, gave me a bid and weren’t pushy or said that the price would change in 30 days. I was getting bids to see what the best would be and they were very upfront. They were knowledgeable about the equipment and they also knew that I was getting bids, but they did not just ignore me. When I called to schedule an appointment with them, it was easy to do so. I spent about $3500 on that service.
Description of Work: I used Hodge Heating & Air Of Lake Norman Inc. in March because the AC unit went out and they had replaced the whole unit.
