Knowing Block and Associates are specialists on the rental market I reached out to market my highly-rentable property. It's strategically located and would rent very easily. When I purchased the property originally I had competition for tenants before I'd even closed on the purchase - it was that simple a task for the agent. I spoke with an agent, provided that background. The agent promised a follow-up email and phone call. After waiting 10 days into the "find a tenant" period, I went to a different agent who found me a tenant within 2 days. I guess Block don't need the business.....
Description of Work: I have a rental property, where my existing tenant is moving out, and I needed to find a new tenant

I am a 57 year old owner of a business consulting business - we have rented several properties in the Cary area over the years - this was by far the worst experience I have ever had with any company. I have never written a review, but feel that any potential renters who are considering working with Block - reconsider - renter beware! I have no interest in calling out anyone at Block - I just want potential renters to really consider carefully working with this company. I can't speak to how well they take care of the owners who they represent, but they fall way short when it comes to the tenant - I would never consider working with them again and would recommend against it to anyone who asked me what I thought. We signed a two year lease through Block of a "high-end" house in the Cary area - the problems started early - before we moved in, Block called me at 9 p.m. - left a message ( I was out of town on an engagement) and said that they would be there at 8 a.m. the next morning - I could join them for a walk-through - my impression was that this was a strategy to make sure I most likely wouldn't make it. After moving in there were several issues that needed resolving - that lead to a 12 month back-and-forth of HUNDREDS of e-mails, which I have filed away - this was almost a full-time job in itself. After 12 months, I stopped the communication. For a relatively small company, Block is setup such that you have no single contact - I probably dealt with six different people - if you want to have a relationship with your property management company forget about it - there is no interest - this is the kind of company structure I go in and fix. You can imagine that as a company owner and someone who has been in the customer service business all of my life, this was frustrating. Whenever there was something wrong, I felt I was guilty until proven innocent and even accused of it one time - by someone who was most likely half my age! I deal with CEO's, Presidents and other C-Level execs on a daily basis - at Block I was a second class citizen. Don't get me wrong - there were people at Block who tried to help - at the end of the day it didn't change my experience. The final insult was a strategy (my opinion) by Block to withhold as much of the initial deposit as could be obtained by really stretching the bounds of rationality. I was docked almost $1,000.00 because Block Accused my dog of "biting the cabinets" - have you ever heard of a dog that bites cabinets? If you do decide to work with Block - make sure you write-off your deposit.

We are happy with Block & Associates Relocation services. Mike Trainer is very timely, responsive, and very knowledgeable. Our current agent seems to have that eye for real estate. It is not about getting a house for his commission, it is about getting a house that fits us. He took the time to get to know us and what we did and did not like. Then he provided his opinion without being pushy.

House had not been cleaned prior to picking up keys including carpet cleaning. Company walk through sheet showed items needing attention that had not been addressed before I moved in. Some of those items have still not been addressed or resolved. The walk though sheet I was given was a copy of the previous walk through so you couldn't tell what I wrote and what had been previoudly written. Landscape in poor condition, but tenant responsible for keeping it up. Staff are argumentative, insulting, and dismissive of your requests for repairs or items needing attention. After the lease is up, I will detail all the problems I have had with the staff at B&A. Let's just say for now they: 1) deny there is a problem, 2) blame you for the problem, 3) blame the owner for the reason the problem can not be fixed, 4) threaten to make you pay for the service, 5) argue with you about the need for the service, 6) insist you do not know what you are talking about, 7) reluctantly schedule the service, 8) do not follow through with you to be sure service solved the problem, 9) ignore you from that point forward in any communication on that maintenance ticket. Companies sent out for repair are generally competent, but the "handyman" contractor jury rigs every repair and states more extensive repair is needed, but the owner won't pay for it. I don't know for a fact if that is true because there is no confirmation that the owner is ever notified of issues with their house. I have no idea if the owner understands that because of the staff at B&A the lease will not be renewed. It is a shame the way this office has handled this business relationship. I strongly encourage prospective tenants and owners to refrain from utilizing B&A for any transaction.
Description of Work: Independent realtor helped to find home listing. Rented house using B&A. Rent at approximately $1300.00 monthly with deposits of first and last month. Non refundable application fee for each property.

This company is located in Cary, which is a much wealthier area than Wendell, and is about an hour away. The home I rented was the only home they managed in Wendell. The biggest problem was not being able to reach any of the agents or get ANY response. I highly doubt I would have had the same experience if the home was in one of the wealthier areas. I would not recommend this company to anyone!
Description of Work: Home was shown to me by an agent from Parrish Realty (who received no commission), as a favor to Block. Home is owned by a couple in New York and Block and Associates was recommended to them by a "friend". The couple have never met anyone from Block and just took the friend's recommendation. I rented the home as of July 1, 2009. It had been vacant for several months, and needed many repairs. I signed a contract indicating all repairs would be made within 3 days. Most significantly, the air-conditioning was not working and it was between 85 and 90 degrees inside the house for over 30 days. Further more, I rented the home because I have a dog and this home allowed dogs. However, AFTER signing the lease, I was informed only permanent fencing was allowed (per the home-owner's association). I learned this AFTER I had hired a company to put up a chain link fence that could be taken down at the end of my lease. In addition, once the cool weather came, I was unable to get any heat. I submitted a maintenance request 3 times, and eventually called the emergency service. I was told I had a propane tank (in the middle of the back yard)...this was NEVER mentioned to me by Block prior to my signing the lease.
