Roofing
$15,000
This is one of the most negative experiences with a roofing company ever! I am familiar w/roofing since many years prior my ex had a roofing company.
Ricky Hyatt met w/my parents and gave them an initial quote on the roof.  He promised them a good job and stated his work was guaranteed.  His oversized ad in the phone book also stated that his work is guaranteed, so they felt sure this was a good choice. He promised them he would provide a receipt as well w/his work.  My parents agreed to use him and made the appointment.
WNC showed up, the roof was completed and my parents and our family were much elated since this was a project that needed to happen a long time ago and the roof had a leak which needed to be stopped.  WNC removed the old shingles and also replaced some of the roof boards as well.  During the roofing process they found more areas that needed attention such as the dormer window upstairs which was previously done by another roofer unsuccessfully and reporting an area on my parents front porch.  Rick promised that their house would be leak proof and "dried in".
During the roofing process, he did not produce any contracts or receipts. He continually said he would provide it, but it just never showed. My parents had no paperwork what so ever.
Ricky roofed the house and also told my parents that they needed gutters. My parents along w/Ricky's acquaintances found a gutter man and had him come out to do the gutters.  As the job continued the $ racked up to the point that us kids chipped in and helped to pay for it.  Once the job was completed, they packed up and left.  My father repeatedly asked for a receipt and was told by Ricky that he would "bring it by".  Once this job was done, I was initially shocked to find out just how much $ my parents wound up spending - $15,000 was a huge amount. They both only live on their social security benefits and this truly drained the rest of their account.  After some time, however, I thought, "well at least the roof is done!"    It was a relief to all us kids and my parents to know that next time it rained there would no longer be any leaks!  To everyone's horror - the rain came - and the roof STILL leaked.  It leaked on the area of the front porch where they replaced the porch boards and also it leaked from the area around the dormer. My parents called Rick and left him a message which he promised to come out and redo.
This is where it gets ugly.  Rick never showed. My parents called again, No show, then again, No show, then again, No show, I think you get the picture.....
My parents now not only are at square one again, but they have no $ in savings left, no recept to show the work was done and no idea how they could of been duped like this.  After I found out that the roof still leaked and my father was repeatedly calling Rick Hate and him not showing as promised, I got involved.  Below is from my notes that I have been taking all this time and I think this is the best way to relay the remainder of the story. It speaks for itself.
4/4/11 - Called Rick Hyatt's cell phone and reached him. Told him about my parents roof is still leaking and feared it may cause damage to their home. Asked him for a receipt and also asked him if his work is guaranteed as the ad in the phonebook stated. He said "of course" and told me he would give the receipt to me and for me to call him that Thursday 4/7/11 at Noon so he can tell me when he plans to come up. I made it clear to him that I really wanted to be there since my parents are elderly and I wanted to talk w/him. 4/7/11 - Called at Noon, but no answer. I left a message. 12:45pm - called again and no answer - I left a message. 1:15pm - Called again - no answer, so I called his home number and reached his wife. I asked her if he was in and told her he wanted me to call at noon about my parents leaking roof. She told me he would be home between 4:30-5pm and she would tell him that I called. I tried his cell anyway around 3:30pm, but no answer. 4/8/11 - Tried calling his cell 4 times on this day and left him messages. 4/9/11 - Tried again to call - no answer. 4/11/11 - Called his cell using another phone (thought maybe he was recognizing my phone and avoiding the call) and low and behold - he answered.  When I asked him about when he was planning to come by, he told me he was going to come up this Saturday to fix it. I told him I wanted to be there and asked when he would arrive so I could plan. He then asked how long it takes me to get there and then told me to call him 8am in the morning on Saturday the 16th and he would tell me exactly when he would be there. I then asked him about the recept which he owed us to which I was absolutely surprised his answer was "do you remember how much $ your parents pay so he could get a receipt written"  I told him $15 grand but I also would double check w/my father as I know he keeps a journal and notes w/all monies coming in and going out.  I confirmed with my father and it was exactly $15 Grand. 4/14/11 - I decided to go to my parents on Friday night to make sure I would be there when Rick arrived on the 16th.  I called Rick and told him that I was spending the weekend there and for sure I would be there Saturday morning when he arrived.  He informed me he would be there around 12 Noon on Saturday. 4/16/11 - Rick never showed up. I called him and finally reached him and asked if he was coming as promised and when? He informed me that he thought it would maybe rain on that day and did not want to come since any repairs he makes probably would not "stick".  When I asked him why he did not call me earlier w/this info, he had no reply.  He promised to come either the next day on Sunday or that next week. He also said he would call first around 12 noon to make sure my parents would know. Another day wasted for both my parents and I plus gas wasted for me. I spend another night onto Sunday and Rick did not call or come.  Remembering that he said he would come by some afternoon if he did not show up, I felt hopeful. 5/10/11 - Rick did not call my parents or show up. I called him again and left a message how urgent it was to get this fixed and reminded him of his guarantee and also told him that I also now suspected a leak in another area of the house.5/11 - 5/26 - repeatedly called and did not receive an answer on both home and cell phones.  Left messages. 5/27/11 - Called again and Rick did not answer. I left an urgent message on his cell phone how it was absolutely important that he call and/or come by to get this problem fixed as I don't want structural damage due to water damage to the house. I desperately urged him to call either my home phone or my parents home phone and gave him all 3 numbers once again. June 2011 - No show from Rick and no phone calls from Rick. Repeatedly called and left messages. July 2011 - My older sister came for a visit and called Rick several times (to which he answered - I guess he did not recognize her number either). She very diplomatically told him how we all helped my parents w/the $ to do this roof, how they no longer have funds, and asked him if he would do the right thing and come over and repair the roof since he was completely paid and it was a good amount, and it was not right that the roof still leaked. Rick promised her he would come.  He never did show.
7/30/11 - I called Rick and asked him why he keeps saying he will show up and he doesn't, and how all this is really becoming a huge crisis in our family and asked him "why don't you just come?".  Now he sang a different tune:  He told me that the area where the leak is originating from was not in his original plans and that he did it as a courtesy for my parents. But promised that he would still come o
