It went well but I had to email them 2 weeks later to remind them about emailing me the report. But i had it within a few days. THey sent infrared images of parts of the house but not all. You had to know what you were looking for(its not hard) but an explanation of what I was seeing would be great. I liked the fact that they showed me how much the work would save me in energy costs
Description of Work: This was a promotional deal through Angies list so the price was a lot less. Usually it costs 400.00 They performed and energy audit. They used a blower to suck air out of the house to find leaks They used an infrared camera on the walls and windows They walked around with me and did a visual inspection including going up into the attic. Then they emailed me a report along with costs to do the necessary repairs and how much it would save me in energy costs per year.

7. I think the audit was terribly skewed. When they perform the audit, they left the door to my downstairs open. I do not heat or cool that area (so it is like having a door to the outside open.) So when they take their readings it demonstrates no improvement. I spent over $3000 on improvents on insulation, windows, doors, caulk, etc. and the audit was unable to detect any impovement. My house is over 50yrs old and I am the first to make those types of improvements. I am sure my energy bills will have a different story.
Description of Work: 1. Angie's list offers deals on audits. It doesn't matter what you the consumer pays for the audit you are rebated the amount you paid for it. You save nothing on that deal. 2. Hayes claimed I would receive $400 credit for the audit in which I paid $225 and that was not true. MGE web site application says "Rebate is $400/unit." They don't mean it. This acutally means up to $400/ unit. The rest of the categories say up to $x or not to exceed $x 3. The process took 5 months and I'm still waiting on my money. Metropolitan Energy Coalition takes >4months to do their job once you have completed your part. 4. I was supposed to get my can/pot lights insulated. Not all were done and 4 were not covered with insulation only a cooler. 5. I was wondering why my house was hot after they left. I went up to the attic and found the trunk was disconnected to my living room so the attic was being airconditioned not my living room. Those connections were supposed to be sealed and wrapped. 6. I have photos.

Response from The Hayes Company
1. Most Energy Audits cost from $300 to $600. The homeowner paid $225. She saved at least $175 on the Energy Audit. I am sorry for her sake that she could not get rebated more money then she actually paid for the audit, but that is the Metropolitan Energy Center's policy and out of our control. 2. If we claimed that she would get back $400.00 on the rebate, it was because that is what we were led to believe as well based on our communication with the MEC. This information was confirmed directly to the homeowner by the MEC as well. We are sorry the homeowner could not be rebated more than she paid for the audit, but in retrospect it is only fair from the utility's standpoint that homeowners would only get rebated on the amount paid for the audit. The other thing to keep in mind is that by receiving only $225 back for the audit should have presented an advantage. The total possible HPES rebate is $1200 which includes the audit as well as improvements. By using only $225 of the rebate for the energy audit, this homeowner had more money left for energy improvements. 3. I am not sure why this is brought up in this review. The Metropolitan Energy Center's policies are out of our control. However, the Metropolitan Energy Center does take a few months to process paperwork for all homeowners, not just this one. I should point out that the energy audit we performed was done on August 18, 2011. The homeowner did not schedule a post audit until November 16, 2011. When the homeowner says the process took 5 months she is omitting the three month period it took her to complete her own work. 4. The homeowner's final quote per her specifications states that the can lights were to be air sealed. The homeowner did not elect to have her attic insulated or her lights insulated. If any can lights did get insulated, then she received that work as a bonus. 5. All duct connections were sealed per the estimate. The disconnected duct is entirely possible. We are not immune to mistakes, and the homeowner had a very difficult attic to navigate. However, our work was completed on September 26, 2011. No one at The Hayes Company was told of this incident until this Angie's List Review on January 27, 2012. This includes the post-auditor who was with the homeowner on November 16, 2012. If the homeowner had communicated the problem to us prior to this review, then we would have corrected the problem or offered fair compensation. As it is, we were never given the opportunity. 6. ? 7. The energy audit was performed exactly to BPI specifications which the MEC verified after they audited our energy audit. The homeowner previously stated in an email to us that the MEC inspector "audited my house which was an audit of [Hayes Company auditor's] audit. I gave her favorable feedback. He seemed to think so as well." I can only speculate what caused the homeowner to change her opinion of our audit. The homeowner spent about $2000 on improvements that we did not recommend at all. We were contracted for $905 out of the total $3000 that she spent. In this case, the dissatisfaction she has with the final outcome is unfortunately not our concern. If anything, this case highlights the need to carefully consider the recommendations of the energy energy auditor.

In the spring of 2011 I had Hayes come out and raise the R factor of my attic from maybe as much as R-10 to R-55. The first thing that we noticed was how quiet it made the house. This fall I had scraped together the funds needed to do the walls raising them from maybe as much as R-05 to R-30. This should prove a boon to us in both the winter and the summer months. By insulating the walls we have made the house very nearly sound proof. We have to look outside to see what the weather is now and we can't on the sound of the wind blowing or the noise on the roof. They were very neat and clean and respected our home almost to a fault.

Very well - the Hayes representative seemed thoroughly knowledgeable about energy efficiency, shared many small suggestions that cost us nothing, and seemed passionate about what he does to help conserve energy wherever it can be done. When we're ready to insulate our current home or an investment property, we will call Hayes company first. If you're looking for a company that can give you the straight scoop on what you need to do in your home, Hayes is the company you should call first.
Description of Work: We were looking for insulation professionals in Angie's List and found the Hayes Company - and a valuable Angie's List coupon. When we called, we were looking for a quote on attic insulation, but with our coupon we got so much more: the Hayes representative did a complete walk through of our home, looked in our attic, and made many small suggestions that have already helped us to lower our heating and cooling bills - not an easy feat for a family of twelve with teenagers coming in and out, forgetting to close doors, and using a lot of hot water. Although we opted not to re-insulate our attic at this time, the energy efficiency audt completed by the Hayes representative proved valuable beyond our expectations. In fact, many of the information and suggestions he made led us to purchase a high-efficiency heating and cooling system for a home we bought.

Sales person Rick came out on time and was very personable. Walked him through work that I would like to have done. He had a tape measure on his belt but not once did he measure anything or look at the attic area and only looked at one crawl space. He didn't explain the work to be performed until I asked a specific question relating to the work. He walked around the outside of the house to get an estimate of what the attic looked like based upon the roof line. They offered two kinds of blown in insulation which he immediately discounted as not to use over the other. They also offered a spray foam closed and open cell type and said it was way more expensive but they would quote it anyway if we wanted. Wasn't happy with the fact that it estimate was just that, an estimate with no actual measurements. Plus I didn't feel the salesman really wanted to put the effort into an accurate estimate. So the good things I heard and read about the company, was not the first impression I received, I rated them a B because of the sales man and never had a chance to evaluate the work because I was so turned off by my initial experience. So instead I went with another company to do the work I wanted.

Hayes Company technicians told me, after starting work we had agreed to, that they could not continue due to ?exposed wiring? in our attic caused by squirrels. I immediately asked them to stop work and call their supervisor and they were told to stop, clean up, and leave. They quickly left, but did not clean-up, leaving a mess in my attic. This ?electrical? problem should have been identified during the estimate and energy evaluation (which was never completed even though it is a ploy they use on Angie?s List to entice customers). Because we could not afford to have an electrician come and fix our wiring (my wife and I are unemployed and I am a disabled veteran) AND have the insulation done, I told Zac Hayes (the son of the owner I assume) we would have to reassess once we got an estimate on the cost of fixing our wiring. Zac apparently did not like my answer and he became defensive, telling me he was going to have to charge me for the 30 minutes of work performed and materials (up to $450). ?Regarding the work we performed today we will be job costing the amount of time/material that was used. Once we have determined the cost we will only bill you for only that amount.? The damaged wiring was exposed and easily detectable, so Zac or one of his installers should have identified the problem BEFORE starting work. He had also told me that he was going to perform the free ($50 value) energy evaluation described on Angie?s List, but that did not happen. In all, I found Zac Hayes to be extremely rude and unprofessional. It seemed to me as though the low-balled the estimate with the intent of running up the cost of the work or by making money by bringing in an outside contractor (electrician). Here is an excerpt from his last email, so you can judge for yourself: ?It is nice to know that you are willing to reward our efforts of good-will by threatening to write a poor review [in Angie?s List] of us in order to save a few bucks for work that was performed. Attempting to hold me accountable for chewed wiring is pretty laughable when we both know my entire purpose was to look for areas of energy improvement. Perhaps you were confused and thought I was a doing a complete building inspection??? Actually the situation is extremely laughable when you take into consideration the fact that you told me you had been in your own attic? and I guess you did not detect it!? Actually, because of my disability, I had never been in my attic and never told Zac that I had, so he was obviously lying or confused. Zac went on: ?You also told me you had several other insulation contractors inspect your attic, and they also did not detect it? Perhaps we have different definitions of ?easily detectable?I am going to ask that you please do not ask us to come back and complete any work. Perhaps you have a conception that we are making a lot of money on jobs like yours but that is not the case. These jobs are run extremely tight and issues like these do cause us to lose money rather then make money. We are affected by this poor economy in the same way as you and we simply cannot afford to put any more money into the situation.? I told Zac that I was shocked by his overly aggressive and unprofessional response. In the end, Zac did offer to waive any costs for the small amount of work his men did and, in turn, I did not bill The Hayes Company for the damage they did to our closet (photos attached) with their ladder and when they ripped the tape off our walls, also estimated at approximately $150. I?ve seen some (many actually) very unprofessional things since moving to Kansas City, but Zac?s email is right near the top. If they are affected by the poor economy as much as they say they are, he might consider treating his customers with a little more dignity and respect. You can be sure I will not be calling The Hayes Company again and neither should you. Zac seems to be a very angry young man.
Description of Work: Provided an estimate for 1,100 sf of attic insulation, baffles, and associated work. Hired Hayes Company, but when workers showed up on the day agreed on, they worked for about a half hour before "discovering" a problem that would stop work and increase the scope of the job significantly.

I will restate for the record that we didn’t charge the homeowner anything as a gesture of goodwill. We had 2 installers in this attic for around 1.5 hours with a total cost to our company of $214.00 with materials, drive, etc. The homeowner received part of the estimated air sealing absolutely for free. In a perfect world, we would have spotted the bad wiring during the estimate. That would have been more convenient for all of us, but it cannot be our responsibility to find all problems of the house in a free estimate . In this case, informing the homeowner of the wiring resulted in the loss of the sale for us, but it was the right thing to do as the wiring could have been potentially dangerous. We would have fixed the “$150.00 of damage” if it had ever been addressed or brought up sometime before the Angie’s List Review. It is unfortunate that the homeowner felt his only recourse was Angie’s List. The homeowner very specifically mentioned that he was going to leave a negative review before the conflict resolution had even concluded. Some of the other accusations in this review are unfair. I will address those only by referring to our current record of 42 other reviews on Angie's List which currently are comprised of 38 A’s and 4 B’s.

It was a just an "okay" experience. The house feels warmer so it seems they did a good job. The guys were punctual and except for leaving 13 nails on the garage floor and in the driveway the first day and aksing to use the restroom several times (that was odd!) they were nice and courteous. I'm glad I got it done.

We had them do the work in January due to the weather. We spent probably around $5000 on that service and it was perfect. The professionalism was good when they gave us the estimate and came out and looked around. They gave us ideas on what we can do to better insulate and better help our house stay warm. They gave us other tips too, so the whole process was good and said what wasn’t working where.

Had two quotes and they were pretty much the same but Hayes seem like the most professional, so I hired them. When they showed up on the scheduled date at the time promised it was very cold outside about 0 deg f. Whane they tried to insulate it was not doing a good job so instead of proceeding they packed up and came back about a week later when the weather had improved a lot. They showed up on time and on schedule and did a great job. Part of it could not be finished because the sheet rock had to be done on the garage wall before insulatiing. When the sheetrock was finished I called and they came back in two days to finish. Some other construction people damaged part of the insulation and they came back and repaired it free of charge....thay have a guy just for this purpose. I am very satisfied with the entire experience.

Hayes did a great job. They responded quickly to my call and provided a detailed and fair estimate. Once hired, they performed the work immediately and professionally. They followed-up after the job was completed to ensure I was 100% satisfied. They'll be the first call I'll make if I need this type of work again.
Description of Work: They performed an energy audit ($600) which identified several areas that needed sealed and insulation added to improve the homes efficiency. I then also hired them to seal these areas and add insulation to the attic to bring it up to R-49. This involved blowing in insulation as well as netting insulation over a cathedral ceiling. I waived the tax credit to them and they discounted it from my bill so I got the credit up front instead of waiting for the utilities to reimburse me. They also provided a $150 discount because I hired them to do the work the audit indicated.

Zac Hayes returned my phone call requesting an estimate the same day I called. He made an appointment to come to my home and showed-up on time. His estimate for the insulation I wanted done was about $200.00 above what the two other estimates I had. However, Zac honored a $200.00 Angie's List coupon which brought the price down in-line with the other two. And, The Hayes Company added insulation to the three attic entrances which the other companied did not do as part of their work. Hayes sent out three workers to do the job. They called ahead and showed-up on time. They brought all the equipment necessary to do the insulation and clean-up. With only a short break for lunch, all three kept at the job until it was completed. They explained to me what they were doing and why. They asked me if I wanted things done, explaining all the options. For example, did I want an overhead entrance to the attic in the bedroom closet insulated. They explained the benefits of my options depending on my usage of the entrance. I had they insulate it. The garage walls had to have holes drilled into the drywall to insert the insulation material. After completing this, the holes were patched and drywall mud put over them so the walls would be ready to paint. Upon completing all the insulation work, the three cleaned-up, including vacuuming my carpet. I am very pleased with the work and the manner in which The Hayes Company workers treated me. I highly recommend them.

My house was pretty well insulated except for the attic insulation. I have attic stairs out in the garage. They parked the truck out in the driveway and took a hose up the attic stairs. They blew the insulation in that way and brought it up to R40 value. The work went on well. I called them and Mike came out to do an energy audit of my house. Then they set up a deal with the company which they did a full energy evaluation on my house. I had to pay for it, but I got credits in return from the power company. It amounted to about $600. There was a little bit of mess, but it wasn?t too bad. Now the house doesn?t get as cold as it used to before. I did shop around a little bit for the price.

It was the best $50 that I ever spent. For $50, who wouldn't have it done? It really highlighted and emphasized what to spend my money on and what to save my money on. I did not feel pressured to purchase any installation from them. It was absolutely just informative and worth every minute of time that we spent together. He helped me evaluate how air was flowing in my home from my air-handling unit and how to redirect the vent to maximize the output in my areas. He told me not to waste my money on new windows. I would hire him back and I have even considered having him come back to have him tell me what I can do now since I have done his improvements.

I called them initially to do an energy audit. It took several weeks and a followup phone call before some contacted me to arrange the audit. When they did the audit it seemed very thorough and the report was mostly informative and included recommendations and cost of doing some work. We then had them do foam insulation in the attic and some other minor energy efficiency things around the house. It's hard to judge the quality but they seem to have done a good job. I then had to follow up several times to arrange final testing, one last piece of the work and to get a receipt. They seem to do good work, but you do have to keep following up with them. I think they are just very busy.

Hired Hayes to conduct an energy audit as part of KCP&L's efficiency program. As part of this service, the inspector noticed a couple of potentially serious problems with our furnance and flue. After the inspection, the inspector came back twice to help us make sure we adequately fixed the problems. Way above and beyond! Hayes installed insulation in our attic and sealed all attic penetrations. Excellent value, excellent quality service. I would use them without hesitation and recommend without reservation.

We initially contacted them to perform an energy evaluation . We have had some problems with several rooms being very cold and we knew we needed additional insulation at the very least. Mike arrived on time and did a very thourough job evaluating our insulation needs. He pointed out many things that we could do on our own to improve comfort. He is very excited about his job and it shows. He spent a total of about 3 hours at our house. We received a bid about 3 days later with breakdowns of the most important fixes and ones that could wait. We were scheduled to have the installation about 3 weeks after the initial evaluation. The crew arrived on time every morning and spent 3 days putting 2 tons of insulation in our main attic, an attic over the garage and our basement. They were very professional and intereacted well with our son. They did not smoke or swear while at our house. The extra insulation has made our house much more comfortable.

The installers did a great job and left the house in the same condition in which they found it. My house was built in the teens and it never occurred to me that foam insulation in the basement would be helpful but Zac told me that was the one thing I should definitely do if nothing else. I have to agree since that was done on January 21 and I can already tell how much warmer the basement is when I do laundry.
Description of Work: Added blown-in insulation in the attic to R40 from R20. Added foam insulation above the foundation in the basement where the house and foundation meet. Added blown-in insulation in the room addition over the rolled insulation. Install weather stripping and sweep on the front door.

They seemed to know what they were doing. They were thorough in checking things out before they gave us the estimate. They did it promptly and very professionally. I would recommend them.
Description of Work: The Hayes Co/The Insulating Professionals did an installation job in the attic and put something around the pan lights that go up into the ceiling to keep the insulation out of contact with the light. The person who built this house should have done that but did not. They also installed the Velcro attic fan cover. They did the work in the summer.
