I thought that the moving charge was absorbant, and that that auction had gone badly, however I know NOTHING about the auction business and that's how life goes sometimes!!
Description of Work: I had KC Auction pick up and sell my "antiques" at a monthly auction. My expections were high and ignorance is NOT bliss. The auction did give me a return on money, and I gave them an unjustified F rating. I want to retract my previous rating, I had a misunderstanding that has been solved.

Description of Work: I contracted with Kansas City Auction Company to auction off estate items. Due to neighborhood restrictions we were unable to have a traditional estate sale so I contacted this company and set up an appointment at the house to discuss options. Ifrom the house. All furniture contents were to be emptied before they were moved. I might be off-base, but I don't think so. This wouldn't have happened if there had been even basic communication. I would have never given a key and would have insisted to be there to supervise if I'd have known this would happen. Live and learn I guess. (and trust no one) met with Jason Roske and his assistant. Jason explained the basics, how it would work and how we would proceed. We went through the entire house discussing what we would be keeping and what we needed to sell. We went room by room discussing in detail what could go and what was to stay, what had value, what should just be donated, etc. Jason explained the consignment process, comission rate etc. We signed a contract, I gave him a key to the house. I was told that the later in the week they would come to the house to photograph and inventory things that they would be interested in taking on consignment. Once that was done packers and movers would be scheduled to pack and transport the items to auction. A day later Jason called from the house asking about a jewelry box on top the dresser and asked if he could take it with him and go through the contents. I agreed, as it was mostly costume and some sterling pieces, but nothing of sentimental value. A week later I hadn't heard anything about what they would or wouldn't be taking. I assumed (I know, I know) things were moving slowly as Thanksgiving was approaching. I called and left a message. Didn't think much about it. I stopped by the house that weekend and was a little surprised that they had packed and removed what they wanted without bothering to contact me. I was expecting an inventory of items to be auctioned. What had been removed appeared to be as discussed. A few days after Thanksgiving I was VERY shocked to get a check in the mail with a list of the auctioned items. I was even more shocked to see the list of family jewelry that had been auctioned off. Items that were inside the dresser drawers and in an armoir. Yes, Jason asked specifically about a jewelry box on top of the dresser and it was agreed that he could remove that box and contents

Response from K C Auction Company
Member & Angie's List readers, This complaint is truly baffling. I am Jason R. Roske the owner of the KC Auction Co., LLC. Before responding to this complaint I spoke with my "Assistant", Amy, who is my auction house manager and I even referenced the contract that the member signed to make certain of what I already knew. When Amy and I visited with the memberin his mother's condo we spoke for nearly an hour about what was to be sold and what was not. We were told several times that the family had been through everything in the home and the few items that they wanted to keep were grouped in specific areas and included a few JR Hamil prints, a Buddy Lee doll, some Steuben crystal and miscellaneous other items. We also discussed the course of events over the next 3 weeks or so from the time of signing. We conduct auctions every other Tuesday night and the member was informed when we signed the contract that we would be selling his items at our auction of November 20th. We talked about specific dates for the packing of the smalls and when the movers would be at the condo to transport everything downtown. We also talked about when the items would be sold and when the member would be receiving a check. He knew these dates before we ever left the condo the first time. When preparing for packing of the estate I came across the jewelry in question. The member had already said that everything of value not specifically set aside was to be sold, but I called him as a courtesy because I thought this jewelry could have been overlooked. When the member and I spoke the first time about it he said he would speak to his siblings about it and get back to me. When he and I next spoke he said to sell the jewelry. Again, the member, Amy and I discussed the particulars of the estate in general, that the family had been through everything and all was to be sold that had value in the condo minus a few specific items. Secondly, after discovering what I thought might be important jewelry to the family that was not discussed I called the member about it. He said to sell the jewelry. After that Amy and I went back to the condo to pack up the breakables in preparation for the movers. All at the set dates and times that were discussed with the member at the initial walk through. The movers came and safely transported everything downtown to be auctioned. In the contract that the member signed. Let me repeat that. IN THE CONTRACT THAT HE SIGNED it clearly states that our auctions are held every other Tuesday night. It also says that we were to sell "Contents at above address" referring to the address of the condo. He signed and initialed this contract as we went over every portion of it. We pride ourselves on our commitment to our clients. In our ability to effectively, efficiently and effortlessly, for our clients, transfer personal property assets to a new generation of owners who will appreciate and cherish those items. I am really uncertain as to what else we could have done. We clearly discussed the timeline and items to be sold several times before the items ever left the condo. The member was my one and only contact with the family. Maybe I needed to ask to speak to his siblings directly, but was told at every turn that the member had done that himself and that everyone was on the same page. If there was a communications breakdown it sounds like it was on the member's end and that he didn't actually speak with his siblings during the process. I cannot control that. Thank you, Jason R. I would highly recommend them. I think they are incredibly ethical and knowledgable. I had a situation where my parents were from St. Louis and they passed away, and I needed to sell some of their antiques. St. Louis is a really bad place to sell antiques. I couldn't find a good auction company there so I hauled them all the way across the state because KC Auction Company came so highly recommended. It was absolutely worth the travel. After going through the experience with having the auction company sell some of my parents items, I realized that I had some boxes in the basement with antiques in them that had 20-year-old paper wrapped around them. I thought that maybe I didn't need all of them so I unloaded a bunch of things at KC Auction Company of my own as well. I was really happy with the experience.
Description of Work: I have used KC Auction Company. I took stuff to sell and they sold it for me. They charge between 35% and 50% of the cost of what ever the item sold for.
