B King Roofing was contracted to remove and replace a 29 gauge classic rib galvanized 45 year paint coated roof. Bob King was on site 1 day actually installing panels. I arrived home and took one look at the work done that day and new right away something was off with the alignment. The metal roof panel installation was not squared to the roof structure resulting in the entire roof being out of alignment. This misalignment caused the roof panels not to seal and lay down upon one another. The fasteners were not aligned and installed in a workmanlike manner. Not only were these fasteners not aligned, 33% of them missed the purlins altogether which results in roof panels not being secured to building structure. The fasteners were over torqued which resulted in the washers being smashed. Smashed washers exposes the roof to water infiltration. Within one week the partial new roof had a pretty significant leak. I notified Bob King of the leak and he did nothing to rectify the issue. I got on the roof an found a fastener that had been screwed in, then removed and screwed back again just off center of the first hole. This left a hole in the metal panel exposed to rain. I sent Bob King the image. His only response was, “he was buying a new “screw gun” just for that reason.” He did not offer to come seal the hole or make any temporary repair. I explained that a new screw gun is not what fixes an issue like that. The individual who did that needs to be educated on proper fastener installation and what to do to avoid making holes in metal that are not in the right place. The roof is still leaking. I stayed home from work the day after their first on site day so I could talk to Bob about the issues I saw from the first day install. He didn’t show up until after 1pm. He was aware I wanted to talk. I was outside to speak with him, he ignored me and got on the roof putting fasteners back in because rain was on the way. Terrible attitude. Zero accountability. Bob King’s contract said nothing about removing our gutters and guards. During the install he insisted they had to come down for him to do his work. These are brand new and we would never have agreed to this during the time we negotiated the contract. I spoke with Bob and reluctantly allowed him to take them down with the caveat that he do so very carefully so that they can be put back up. He agreed to do so with the intention that his install would not stop us from reusing them. Two pieces of 43 LF of gutter were successfully removed without damage. When I saw what Bob installed on the eaves I was left wondering how in the world our NEW gutters and guards were going to work with the eave trim he chose to install and with the almost 5 inch roof overhang from the improperly installed roof panels. I asked Bob and this is when he told me…….oh sorry no…….you’re going to need new custom gutters. This information is more drastic that he initially explained which then prompted me to call our gutter installer. He promptly told me the roofer was wrong to do that and has now VOIDED my gutter warranty. I made numerous calls to the manufacturer of our metal roofing material, Metal Sales Mfg. Corp. I spoke with David Wilson in Technical Support to understand what their installation manual recommends for eaves with gutters. I printed out documentation. We requested Bob not to proceed until we could meet in person. Bob agreed to meet and then backed out when communicating with me. In dealing with Bob King at one point he addressed me with the following phrase, “Don’t go there WOMAN”. I had to explain to Bob that I am his client and I have a name. It is dismissive to me based on gender bias and highly disrespectful. I had to have my husband communicate to him that a one on one meeting needed to occur. At that point he agreed to meet. Bob was very aggressive towards me in this meeting. He was verbally abrasive to me. It was difficult to just discuss the data provided in the installation manual. Bob began raising his voice at me and throwing out ultimatums. He eventually turned his back on me would only speak to my husband. I motioned for my husband to go outside alone with Bob to discuss the roof panels and the alignment. I have been the primary individual in our family to handle all the work on our insurance claim and I should not have had to take a step back. Bob King’s demeanor is like a light switch if he is dealing with a man. Once outside he agreed that what I was sharing was correct. The installation left scratches that removed the protective paint. The installation dented a new roof panel. They were to remove and replace the vapor barrier under the metal. I had lengthy discussions about the vapor barrier and the need to remove it per the insurance line item. This specific work is addressed as a special line item on the contract. The contract is between myself, Brenda Meyer, and Bob King. Bob approached my husband, who had no knowledge of the job or our agreements and suggested he should just leave the old vapor barrier and go over it. Bob had my husband amend a contract that he was not a party to. The line item was there for a reason. Bob new that and did what he wanted to do anyway and got permission from the individual he knew had no idea what was requested and agreed to. The contract also calls for the installation of inside and outside enclosures. The enclosures were installed in a sloppy and non-workmanlike manner. The installation of these enclosures were a total of 43 linear feet. Of that 43 lineal feet 95% of it was installed wrong leaving gaps, holes and misalignment of metal panel roofing. Bob has admitted it was not installed correctly, that he knew it from the get go, yet he carried on and installed the whole side wrong instead of stopping and figuring out what to do. The images of this work and actually of most of the install is quite disturbing. It has become quite clear us that Bob King misrepresented himself and his company as capable metal installers. He told us he had experience with metal roofs and has installed more than 10 of them. Bob King posts a lot online and I have not seen one metal roof install. He posted my job online without our consent and captioned them as finished work. Bob became very irritated that I was speaking to Metal Sales. He told my husband that whoever I was talking too at Metal Sales was giving me total wrong information and that he called himself and chewed them out. He told my husband that I should expect a call from a tech with correct information. Who I actually spoke to was the General Manager of the Independence Mo branch of Metal Sales. He was not technical support and was shocked to hear information that I shared. He had not gotten the whole story. He suggested a meeting with a Metal Sales Rep (Dennis Roach) a Crown C Supply Rep (Bob Muehlenbeck) and Bob King. We should all meet at the job and look at the install. We all met at the job site and both Reps agreed the roof installation was improper and worse than they anticipated. The reps agreed the roof had to come off. It was at this meeting we shared with Bob that numerous fasteners missed the purlins. As I was trying to share this with Bob he became very aggressive towards me, raising his voice yelling why are we talking about the number of fasteners right now…….I know what you’re trying to do…..and this is when my husband had to step in and tell Bob he was not going to tolerate that attitude. At that point we finished explaining the fasteners missing the structure and Bob King reacted in a very accusatory manner that we had to be being untruthful or that we were not smart enough to know what we were looking at. He then admitted to missing the purlins himself. He admitted in this meeting that the panels with screws that missed purlins could not be reused. He admitted that the whole roof needed to come totally off and start all over. He agreed that what went back would only be panels that could be fastened correctly. There would be absolutely no repairing. New Roof is what we paid for and what he agreed to provide. I have recorded proof of the conversations that occurred during this meeting. We moved forward with Bob King only because we had a signed contract. He was promising to get it done right. We returned home yesterday to find our entire ridge cap blown over. This exposes the interior space to the elements. My husband took a picture and texted it to Bob right away. Bob did not respond so I asked my husband to call Bob. Bob said he never got an image so my husband explains the situation. By this time I have also witnessed the severe winds lifting the new roof panels. We share this with Bob and he agrees to come out and get things secured. Bob never showed up. We called numerous times. I sent graphic video of the damage happening to the new roof begging for an answer as to when he would arrive. We never got any reply. Today we tried calling and texting again. Again he would not answer our calls, return our voicemails, or texts. I finally called from my work cell. Bob King was not aware this was my number. He finally answered. I said hello Bob this is Brenda Meyer at which time he hung up on me. We arrived home today with our roof still open to the elements, part of the ridge cap is completely torn off from the roof and laying several feet down the roof slope. I was forced to get on the 6/12 metal pitch roof while my husband walked inside on trusses to put the ridge vent back ourselves. We were forced to fasten the roof panels ourselves as well. The wind damage to the roof panels because he refused to come over has destroyed them. I have had to call my insurance company who suggests this is negligence on Bob King and won’t be covered. Bob requested 50% upfront which totals to 4200 dollars that he has in his possession. He is non responsive and avoids all our attempts to reach him.
