I selected Martin-Jetco because they came highly recommended thru Angie's List. I will NEVER make that mistake again. Martin-Jetco came out on Thursday 6/19 and decided that the blower motor in my AC stopped working. They removed the part and informed me via Skype (I was at work) that they didn't have the correct part on hand. They initially told me the motor I needed typically runs between $200-300. After an hour or so, they called me back and told me the "actual cost" was going to be between $550-600 for a blower motor. I declined to have this fixed by them because I knew the price was way off. In short, I paid $69 just for them to tell me that. I then called a private contractor. He came later the same day and found that Martin-Jetco removed the blower motor and took it with them. They also didn't leave a receipt for the initial call out charge OR a written estimate for the replacement blower motor. The private contractor assured me he could get the motor and install it at a reasonable price. Since neither of them could get the job done, we stayed at a hotel on Friday. Saturday 6/21, the private contractor came out and installed the blower motor. He charged me a little less than $200 for this - part AND labor. Unfortunately, he determined that was not the (only) issue. There was a transformer/fuse that apparently went bad. The contractor didn't have the proper part so I again called Martin-Jetco hoping that they'd return to recheck my AC at the already paid for cost. No dice. Martin-Jetco charged me for 2 service call outs, one at a higher/weekend rate (even after the first one still didn't fix the entire problem). The Martin-Jetco technician agreed that a transformer/fuse was bad. But yet again, the price I was charged for the parts they used was extremely over inflated - like 500% inflated. I was charged over $200 for a part that I later determined costs about $35. I cannot in good faith recommend Martin-Jetco to anyone. Yes, they DID get my air conditioner working again. But the costs and charges to get it back up and running were entirely over inflated. I encourage everyone to PLEASE do your homework and get multiple estimates on both the labor AND the parts used. You will be surprised at the difference in price from "company contractors" to private contractors. Never again will I be using Martin-Jetco Heating & Air Conditioning.
Description of Work: 6/19 - Removed an air conditioner blower motor. Charged for a regular call out. 6/21 - Replaced a bad transformer/fuse. Charged for a weekend call out.

Work was performed perfectly. Even though local gas company said we needed a chimney flue, Anthony from Martin Jetco discovered a flue existed after climbing onto our very high and steep roof. Vince from Martin Jetco, then coordinated with gas company what was actually needed, saving us money and leaving me out of the middle trying to convey info that I did not fully understand.
Description of Work: Quoted an expansion tank for hot water heater and chimney flue. Installed expansion tank and coordinated what work was actually needed for flue with local gas company.

They came out and looked at what I need to have done. Provided the quote in a timely manner. It appears that they were very knowledgeable on the different options I have.
Description of Work: Martin Jetco came highly referred via the management company of my building. I am having to get convert my condo from window air conditioners to a conventional system, as the building is upgrading the facade and will no longer have window air conditioners. Dear Sir, I apologize for the vagueness of my introduction because our proposal was sent to [member name removed] and the reveiw is from [member name removed] whom we are not familiar and appears to be a different address. However, I am happy to address your comments converning our proposal. Let me start by saying this was simply a FREE proposal with no obligation so I am unsure why you are so upset. Our owner Eric has taken several hours out of his time to give you this free estimate which is a no obligation estimate and has done nothing wrong. Martin Jetco, led by Eric Martin, is recognized as a Diamond Dealer with Mitsubishi due to our outstanding reputation and our training and experience in the field of installing and serviving these units. We have been operating in the St. Louis metropolitan area for nearly 50 years. We have developed professional relationships with distributors and manufacturers as well as built a strong clientele of wonderful commercial and residential customers over the years and maintain an "A" rating with the BBB, have been named "Dealer of the Year" by York, a major supplier, for the past 7 years and most recently upgraded to a new title of "Premier Dealer" the most prestigious award they offer created specifically for Martin Jetco. Our employees have attended numerous training hours with our distributors and manufacturers to learn about the installation and servicing of the Mitsubishi equipment. Martin Jetco has installed close to 100 of these units to date. We work diligently on ensuring customer satisfaction and a positive pubic image. As you can see by our many accolades from customers and suppliers, we achieve our goal daily. This proposal that was given to [member name removed] apprears to be misunderstood due to the fact that you or he are not in the business and do not comprehend the magnitude of work involved or the costs associated in doing this job. Clearly if you only look at a price you received on-line from a random supplier, in your ignorance you could jump to conclusions that you are being grossly overcharged. Had you given us the opportunity to explain the quote and the work involved you might be able to educate yourself and understand the true costs and see taht you were given a very fair competitive quote. The equipment to be installed on this job is to go on the 4th floor of a high rise building. This alone creates added costs. The 300+ feet of freon lines for this equipment would need to be run up the 4 stories of the building and across the finished hallway ceilings which makes this job have added difficulty and expense. We have experience specifically with installing these units in the buildings along Skinker and are aware of what they entail in both time and materials. Our bid is not line itemed out to include all of the specifics but I am happy to list the materials and labor items that comprise our bid. -St. Louis City permit to cover rough inspections and final inspections to adhere to municipal code -Engineer Drawings required per code -Electrician's bid included in my price (OVER $3000) for wiring, breakers, disconnects, permits - to adapt to the new power requirements -Labor for 3 men to be on the job site for 4 days (You claim to have found a rate of $75/hr which seems a bit low for the industry but is a one man rate, so for us to have 3 men committed to complete the job then we are right on target with the rate you claim we are charging you. Even though you are misinformed about the true job costs.) - Warranty Registration and Processing: make it known that if you would buy the equipment on-line, as you say you can for that price, it will cme with no warranty and no technical support. Anything you ever need in terms of price would require you to pay for shipping and labor to install it. With our installation, as a Diamond Dealer, you would be receiving 7 Years PARTS & LABOR Warranty on this equipment. -Mitsubishi Equipment - which I will add our cost is more than you say you can buy it for on-line - particularly because of the warrnty, training and support that is needed with the products -Condensate pumps -300+ feet of refrigeration lines -Drains -Tax on the equipment and parts -removal and disposal of any existing equipment and debris -and Yes, Overhead and Profit must be added to all jobs in order for us to remain in business. Our employees we are proud to say are licensed, trained, many are OSHA and NATE certified, they are drug tested, and we keep up with all local and state regulations. These things all are operating costs to stay in business but we feel they are important to give each of our customers the quality and workmanship Martin Jetco is proud to represent! We are sorry that you are upset with our proposal but even more disappointed that you wouldn't take the time to get all of the facts before you go around bad mouthing a reputable company and our owner. This was a free estimate that took time away from either other customers or our owners own wife and children. He made himself available on more than one occassion at your convenience to offer this free service and try to give you options and helpful information on how best to do the work. We are highly recommended by both our supplier and the Mitsubishi manufacture and either of them would assure you our pricing is both fair and competitive, as it always is. Our company is known for doing good work and standing behind it. We welcome you to contact our local supplier Crescent Parts and our representative there is Paul Wanstreet or you may contact Mitsubishi directy. We are confident they will assure you we are a Diamond Dealer because we have earned the title and have the training and skills necessary to complete a quality installation. We at Martin Jetco value each and every customer and potential customer and would be happy to offer a no obligation quote and explain it comparing apples to apples to anyone that ever has a question about it. We appreciate the opportunity to set the record straight and hope you have a more clear understanding now and can better appreciate our quote.

Description of Work: This company participated in repairs throughout the condominium neighborhood that had been caused by the hail storm in April, 2012. As a condo owner I received notification that their workmen would be checking all of the buildings to make sure everything had been done. While they were here, I asked them to check my hot water heater because the water was not hot enough. They were very courteous and explained very clearly some things about the heater, adjusted the temperature and told me that they thought that would solve the problem. In addition, they gave me some information about maintaining a heater. Since I had been reading about them, I knew that they knew what they were talking about. Even offered me a slight discount if and when I need to have the work done.

We have a 30 year old air conditioning. We did not like Martin-Jetco Heating and Air Conditioning very much. We used them because they were highly rated. It ended up having them come out again because our equipment was very old. We asked them for a bid on a new air conditioning system but the man when he presented it to me was kind of condescending. They do not work with Home Warranty System which is fine and I understand. The next time when our air conditioning broke down we called another company and we were much happier with them. We were not very pleased with their customer service. Since the machine was old something else had to be fixed the next week so in the end we had another company come out who figured out that it was the circuit that needed to be changed and so they replaced the circuit. It was probably a catalyst of things. But it did not feel like that they did a thorough job. Martin-Jetco Heating and Air Conditioning did their job but because we had the Home Warranty System we were not paying out of our pocket it should not have mattered to them. It was something that they were not happy with because they had to call and tell Home warranty people what was going on and the repair man was not too pleased to work with that. We paid them and Home warranty reimbursed us. The next time it broke down we went with another company. Unfortunately due to the age of the unit and heat of the summer, there was a cascade of repairs that had to be made. If I have the choice I will not use them again.

From the salesman to the installers, everything went very smoothly, and they were finished in 1 day. I didn't like the thermostat which was installed, so they came out and put in a new one. The a/c got a lot of use this past summer, and it worked great. Their price was quite a bit lower than others we had received, and I feel we made a good decision.

I have been a customer for 10+ years and always satisfied - but never as much as i was today. After weeks of 100+ degree temps, our A/C quit working late one afternoon. We called early the next morning, leaving a message with teheanswering service. By 8:15 we received a call back and were scheduled for a service call late that same morning. By noon, we were cool - literally. Routine service calls, emergency service or new equipment, they really have their act together and have shown that going above and beyond the call of duty for their customers is a just part of their daily operations.

I have a much older AC unit. I called Martin-Jetco first on June, 18 when the unit stopped running. Shaun arrived within 1/2 hour and determined the problem was mechanical. He was knowledgeable, courteous and repaired the unit as required. He also checked the freon level. I was very pleased with his work. On 6/29, I came home to find the unit out again. I quickly determined it was not the same issue as the previous week and called Martin-Jetco again. I spoke with Mike. He was at my location within the 1/2 hour as promised. Mike verified it was not the same issue as before and this time it was electrical issues that had failed. He too was very knowledgeable, courteous and quickly determined the issue. He had to replace a part. He showed me the part (what was bad); since I have some mechanical skills it was obvious he was right. He gave me a price, had the part on his truck and had me back up within the hour after he arrived. I have been a homeowner for over 30 years. I have dealt with several HVAC technicians and companies in that time. This was by far the best experience I have had. I was impressed enough that the day after Mike left, I called the Martin-Jetco office and spoke with the office manager. I told her how impressed I was with the service I received both times. When needed, I will call this company again. I have already recommended them to 2 people I know that are having HVAC issues.

At first, I asked them to come out and perform a checkup and maintenance on the furnace and AC for a rental property I'd purchased. While the tech was working, it became obvious that the furnace and AC would need to be replaced or it would cost almost as much just to repair it. I then arranged for a visit to get a replacement estimate for both the furnace and AC as well as having the ducts cleaned. We discussed a few different options since the house was originally built with a boiler and radiators then retrofitted with forced air. Once I received the estimate, I put half down and arranged an install date. They were very prompt and got right to work when they arrived. I left them alone and didn't hear from them until they were done. Two items that I was a bit surprised about when I inspected their work. One, when we talked about re-routing the return air duct to fix an issue with the previous furnace, I wasn't expecting their ductwork to take up so much of the storage closet behind it, making the space a bit less useful. Second, there was no mention of relocating the AC compressor. Current building codes had changed requiring the compressor be moved farther away from the building and for aesthetics they moved it several feet which required cutting a new hole to reach the attic. The old AC line hole was just filled with putty. As I explained to the techs at the time, I would have preferred being more involved before making such drastic changes. The equipment is good quality and the workmanship is great but the surprises were irritating and tarnished my experience with them a bit. They were very friendly and professional though and it was an overall good experience.

I had had my a/c go out in the summer and called them also for that and Mike assessed the problem from my description promptly and got a capacitor out of his truck and did the repair in almost no time at all in the horrendous heat. He did not even come into the house. He was prompt and courteous.I did not belong to Angie's List at the time so did not submit a report.
Description of Work: Checked my furnace and was also very patient about questions I had about gas turn-off valves. Very patient and thorough. I don't recall his name, but when I called and set up an appt , Ihad to call back and rearrange. It all worked nicely as I had to get to work. It was an early morning call and I really appreciated that. I did sign up also for the spring 2011 checkup as well, so the money covered 2 check ups..the next on a/c.

The service provider arrived prompt @ our quoted time. I explained to him how our AC wasn't working correctly but we were not sure what the problem was. He inspected the furnace, gave an assessment, then went outside to inspect the AC unit. He found the problem to be dirty coils, he cleaned them out and instantly our air came through the vents cold again! He sat down with me and explained the problem, the solutions and future preventative measures. He was extremely polite, professional & courteous. The quote for the work was only $114 but I bought the $192 warranty agreement instead seeing as I trust this company & will be needing their services in the winter for my furnace. I will recommend them to anyone who needs this type of repair work. It is really hard to find honest repair services and they fit the bill!
