After a recent hail storm, my wife and I were barraged by the fly-by-night storm-chasing contractors. One afternoon, while I was already outside, I decided to humor one of them for a few minutes. After inspecting my roof, he told me that "I definitely would get a new one" from my insurance company. It was almost immediately after that statement that he wanted my signatures on a bunch of paperwork, and right then that I told them that I wasn't interested.
Of course, I was interested in pursuing any legitimate hail damage, so I called Jeremy at Hampton Exteriors after finding them on Angie's List. (By the way, I used Angie's List to research that storm-chaser contractor, and he had poor reviews.) The same day that I called, Jeremy was able to come out and take a look at my roof. I knew he was being honest when he said that I "might have enough for a claim". His inspection did turn up damage, but ultimately, the whim of a given insurance adjuster affects the outcome the most.
On the day of the insurance claim inspection, both Jeremy and Joel arrived early and walked me through the process. When the insurance adjuster arrived, Joel worked with him to point out all of the damaged areas of the roof. This is where I could tell that Joel's decades of experience helped the process along. Joel advocated for me throughout the entire time. The claim was approved and I scheduled a date with Hampton for the replacement.
Jeremy and Joel both walked me through the insurance claim process, which was confusing to me since I was a new homeowner. In addition to the roof, I wanted to have an old chimney torn out, and Hampton was able to provide that service as well. Hampton was also coordinating my gutter replacement.
On the day of the job, Jeremy and Joel arrived promptly with their crew and the work began in a flash. Hampton Exteriors uses the same crew for all of their work so they know and trust the team, and as a result, so did I. Watching them work was pretty interesting for me, and I was amazed at how efficient they were. They finished the job before I even got home from work that day. The crew did an excellent job of clean-up and protecting the area around the roof. Of course, being a curious guy, I had to climb up on the roof and see the finished product. I was very happy to see evidence of a quality installation. All shingle courses were straight and the roof vents were properly installed. They caulked everything as they should. The chimney removal was seamless.
The very next day, both Jeremy and Joel met me to do a walk-through of the work and address open items. I was also having my gutters replaced, but I wanted some extra time to paint the fascia behind the gutters as my house doesn't have aluminum fascia. Hampton was very flexible with the gutter installation and I appreciated their willingness to work with me. The gutter installer did a fantastic job and the seamless gutters are amazing. No more leaking gutter seams for this guy!
Overall, I was extremely pleased with the quality of their work, their responsiveness, and the depth of their knowledge. I will recommend them to any of my friends/family in the future.
- added more caulk to attic vents and around furnace and exhaust fan flanges,
- I informed him that we have leaks around the furnace and exhaust pipe for the range hood, his caulking was not effective. When we called to inform him that the leaks were still active he said he needed to find shingle that would match the roof.
- Never heard back from him again.
- Didn't feel that roofing was his specialty, appears to be a general contractor that was far to busy to be bothered with our problems.
After choosing Hampton, the timing of the work was planned around my schedule. The work started at 7:30 each morning and only stopped briefly for lunch each day. The preparation work put down protections for the PVC-floored deck and the swimming pool. It was important that a new pool cover not be damaged and to also avoid scratching the surface of the deck. The protective measures worked fine and no damage occurred.
The work was planned to take a little less than 2 days. Morning frost and the steepness of the roof slowed the work minimally and it did roll into the third day for completion. The work crew took protective measures with ropes to assure their safety.
The quality of the installation was excellent. Attention was paid to protecting the areas around the house from the flying debris and nails. The clean up was good and everything that was moved in preparation was replaced.
I would hire Hampton again. Joel gave the work his personal attention and he wanted to have a customer for life when his crew was done. I am confident that we chose the right contractor and the Angie's List reviews were valuable in helping us do so.
We were extremely pleased with the entire process from the selection of the siding and soffits to the final installation. This was a major project for us and we approached it with much anxiety. Joel and his son, Jeremy, supplied us with excellent siding, shake options to ease the siding decision making. He also gave us addresses of completed siding jobs with the product that we liked so we could see the finished project. Since the small siding samples were difficult to imagine as a finished siding product, Joel had offered to buy sample siding to give us a better idea of what the siding would look like. The construction team headed by Michael did an excellent job with the installation. They worked long days and installed the siding to perfection. We are a 3 story walk out so they were climbing high to install but were positive and worked diligently on the project. We love the look of our home and have received many compliments from both friends and strangers. We added a shake accent and it really adds to the curb appeal of our home.
The price was lower than other bids that we had received for the project and we also appreciated the fact that there were no hidden fees. The bid that we were given at the initial signing of the contract was the price we paid at the conclusion of the project.
First off, I'm price conscious and I'm often looking for the best deal and this was the best deal and it was done right the first time.
I don't know how big this company is but they are family run and they just get it. They treat your house like it's their house, better yet, they treat your house like it's their mom's house. The salesman was punctual, polite and didn't talk down to me like some other salesman do. He treated me like I was his most important customer. The install staff was on time, courteous, polite and when they left you could not tell they were there, everything was cleaned up and done right. The owner's, Joel and Jeremy, have a hands on approach that simply will not allow anything to slip through the cracks.
I can't say enough good things about Hampton Exteriors and what they did. Angie's list is great but they need a different category for company's like this. A+
I've read other reviews where they say they are on my "short list" for future repairs. They aren't my short list, Hampton Exteriors is the only name on my list. Roofing, siding, whatever. If I need something done, and I want it done right, and I want it done at a good price, and I want to be happy with my decision a day, a week, a month or longer after they are gone.
Hampton Exteriors is the company for me.
He made all necessary repairs and offered to send us pictures of the repairs that were completed.
Efficient, friendly and professional. All our leak issues have been resolved.
Because the roof was leaking he moved my job to the head of his list. He and his son, Jeremy, are super, super people and couldn't have done more.
Also, they went out of their way to match the new shingles with the shingles on the garage (which are only 2 years old).
Clearly Joel takes pride in his work and said he'd repair my roof like it was his own home. Many contractors will say this, but he meant it! He even replaced the electrical heating element (for ice jams) without adding the expense to his invoice.
I'm very happy to return his excellent service by writing this review. That's one of the great things about Angie's List--you can step up for the Good Guys who deserve it!
One more comparison point: I had gotten a bid from Sela Roofing last year and they wanted $600 to put the heating elements back up. Joel didn't even charge me for it. Rock on!
when Joel and his crew originally met at my home and inspected my roof on a day it was raining (quite
hard in my opinion). I had a leak and the crew performed a "short term" fix to impede the immediate leak.
I was waiting for an outrageous bill for the immediate response to my distress (just like the plumber). To my surprise I was not
billed! Days later the crew returned and finished the job. Then I was waiting for a "big hit" on price on the the back end
for all the up front service, when they finished the job. It didn't come! They did an outstanding job. And when all my colleagues and friends heard about my price I knew my choice was validated. Thank you Angie's List and thank you Hampton Exteriors!
