Services we don't offer
We provide value based solutions that offer good returns on investment. Many in this industry are "blow and go" operations. We are not interested in making a quick buck and moving on. Instead we create value in the market and let our good reputation propel our success. Air sealing is a critical part of our strategy and we thus work with materials that support this.
We typically do not insulate using fiberglass for attic work. Our thermal analysis shows it does not perform to our standards.
Description of Work: Green Home Doctors sealed, insulated, and added ventilation to our attic. Not only did they provide these services at a price far below bids from competitors, but they did the work on time, with little disruption to our lives, and their work received high praise from our municipal inspector who signed off on the project. We have already noticed that our second floor is considerably cooler when we run our AC, and we anticipate more comfortable temperatures and lower gas bills when the heating season arrives. The Green Home Doctors really delivered on their promises and fully deserve an "A" rating.

Description of Work: We wanted to improve our attic insulation and whatever else we could do to prevent ice dams and their consequent damage. The Green Home Doctor came to our house to see what needed to be done. We chose a day for the work when our two cats would be away, and they were able to complete the work as scheduled. They laid insulation in the attic and put some in the basement furnace room, replaced vents in the soffits, replaced a bathroom exhaust fan with a constant flow model and vented it to the outside, and sealed up some leaks around the kitchen vents. All good. No ice dams this winter (though we also had much less snow).

Description of Work: I had Green Home Doctors come out to fully seal and upgrade the insulation in our attic. Very professional, did the work for a reasonable price, and helped with all the testing/paperwork needed to get our energy rebate. We noticed an immediate improvement in the comfort level of our third story bedrooms. They were a little hard to get hold of at times, but that was due to their heavy work schedule rather than a lack of customer focus. A great job overall.

Following several winters with ice dam problems, we had an energy audit from Centerpoint that showed air leaks, and better insulation and air sealing was recommended. We had representatives from a several companies come out; one was Green Home Doctors. The Centerpoint rep had stated that if an insulation contractor came out and did not literally climb up into and walk all around the attic, they weren't worth their salt. Green Home Doctors' rep was the one who DID walk around in the attic, with a camera. It was clear to us from the beginning that they are not a "blow and go" operation. They had an edge with us right away because they were very knowledgable about the whole home "envelope" as a system. The work needed on one of our attics was pretty cut and dried. For the other attic, they gave us some options, clearly explaining the costs and benefits. While we will have to wait until winter to find out if the work will improve our incidence of ice dams, at this point we could not be happier that we chose this company to do the work. The rep was really knowledgable and helpful. Prior to the work starting, we were given a checklist that told us how to prepare beforehand and what to expect...excellent. The excellent workers were careful, courteous, and thorough. They did a blower door test prior to and after completing their work. This job took 3 days with work done in three different rooms of the house. They arrived on time each day and were happy to answer any questions that came up. Each day when they were done for the day, they did a great job of cleaning up. They left the work spaces cleaner than they found them. They patched walls that had to be punctured to add insulation; they left the areas clean and paint-ready. They did a beautiful job on everything, but particularly in one of the attics that used to be cold storage but now can be used for storing anything that is temperature sensitive. Our house already feels warmer and we expect that the heating bills will go down. The company offered to help us prepare the paperwork for a rebate. We would *****wholeheartedly***** recommend this company to others and have already done so.
Description of Work: Sealed attic bypasses, augmented or replaced insulation in two attics, augmented insulation in crawl spaces, knee walls, around a bay window, and in one other wall.

Green Home crew worked closely with CEE (center for energy) to try and solve some air leakage that was leading to water intrusion from ice dams (a continuing problem in our 1940 Minneapolis home). This was challenging work because of our 11/2 story construction. I will not know if the investment worked until winter. The green home crew spent a very long day to get the work completed. CEE had advised they should correct an issue found on post blower testing. They never came back so I did that myself. I wish they paid more attention to details...I'm still waiting on some paper work to be completed.
Description of Work: Searched for areas to air seal and completed some air sealing. Insulated attic walls. Moved insulation from one wall to another in an attic space.

Back in December I contacted C.E.E. for an energy audit. They recommended that I get more insulation in my attics. They had a list of four contractors to use. By using them I got $600 rebate on the insulation. I decided on Green House Doctors and they came and did the work in two days. They had to seal the attics on one day and then insulated on the second. They were helpful in filling out the forms so I could get my rebate and I noticed a reduction in my heating bill right away.

After attending a Center for Energy and Environment (CEE) Minnesota Energy challenge workshop on improving the energy efficiency of your home - and having a damage causing ice dam in Feb., it was determined that my existing attic insulation was insufficient and I needed attic air sealing done too. I hired Green Home Doctors (one of CEE's participating contractors) to fix the problem. My single story house was built in 1923. The Green Home Doctors staff were professional and courteous. They performed an initial blower door test, then began sealing the air gaps in the attic and building the insulation dam for the attic (to prevent insulation from falling down the attic stairs). They used spray foam insulation to seal the air gaps in the attic. They also insulated the door leading to the attic. They also were very flexible with their scheduling and were able to fit me in to a last minute opening so I could meet the deadline of a soon-to-expire rebate.
Description of Work: Air-sealed attic bypasses and gaps. Insulated attic to R50, including under the attic floor. Insulated the attic door.

After attending a Center for Energy and Environment Minnesota Energy challenge workshop on improving the energy efficiency of your home, I received a blower door test from CEE. That test revealed a lot of air gaps in my attic! I hired Green Home Doctors (one of CEE's participating contractors) to fix the problem. My 1.5 story house was built in 1939, so it has the typical leakiness of an older home. The Green Home Doctors staff were professional and courteous ( even removing their boots inside.) They performed an initial blower door test, then got to work sealing up all the air gaps. They used spray foam insulation to seal the air gaps in the attic. They also foamed the basement rim joist areas. And finally, they weatherstripped my original (and ill-fitting) front and back doors. Their end-of-the project blower door test revealed an 18% improvement! I'll have to wait until next winter to see how my gas bill is affected, and to see if I get fewer ice dams. Matt Danielson, the owner of Green Home Doctors, is highly knowledgeable and experienced, and a pleasure to work with. I strongly recommend Green Home Doctors.
Description of Work: Sealed attic bypasses and gaps between the foam insulation sheets and studs. Insulated the basement rim joist area. Installed weatherstripping for 2 exterior doors.
