Service was very prompt and well performed.
I had repair done for water damage in the ceiling of 2 rooms: family room and kitchen. The family room looked OK so I gave this an A rating. However, I would have to give the kitchen an unacceptable rating because of the following reasons:
1. According to the report I received from my insurance adjustor, 60 sq. ft of drywall would have to be replaced along
with the attic insulation above it in order to repair the water stain damage to my kitchen.
2. I noticed the next day after Christian’s employee, Keith, had completed his work, that he must have forgotten to paint
the ceiling because of discoloration caused by sealer in about 1/3 of my kitchen ceiling that was not there prior to him working on my house.
3. I then noticed that the water stain [that extended about 3 feet long just to the right of the light fixture] was still
there. It wasn’t real obvious because some popcorn had been sprayed over it but if I used a flashlight, I could
easily see it and so did 3 other people. So it appeared that no drywall repair had actually been done.
4. I then called up Matt and asked him to return because I wanted to show him the problems. He explained that the discoloration came from the sealer so he would give me a deduction for the sealer of $53.45. Then, after showing him the water stain, I assumed that Matt would be upset with Keith or apologize or offer to give me a refund or something but to my surprise, I don’t recall any reaction at all.
5. I recall no offer being made to “come back and take care of the issue”. However, I would have a genuine concern that this might mean Keith would simply come back and paint over the problem rather than fix it.
6. No mention was made of payment for any paint job by either party. I never requested this because what I needed instead
was a refund for kitchen repair on water damage [which cost me around $600], not for a $100 paint job, which would only
cover up the problem.
7. There was also no discussion or agreement with Keith about any insulation. I was not even aware at the time that no kitchen insulation as done.
8. No deduction or reimbursement for any of this was ever given or offered, [only a small deduction for the sealer of $53.45 but that had nothing to do with fixing the original problem.]
In summary, I paid around $600 just for them attempting to cover up the problem [large water stain in kitchen ceiling] rather than actually fixing the problem [dry wall repair].
"It is very disappointing to see [member name removed] had filed this complaint with Angie’s List. Christians, Inc. informed [member name removed] that the ceiling may show some bleed through after it dries. This in is not uncommon when re-spraying/texturing ceilings, and is not related to the ice damage. We told [member name removed] we would come back to address the issue if and when it occurs. When Matt me with [member name removed] and collected final payment, we again offered to come back and take care of the issue. [member name removed] did not want us to come back as she was having the entire home painted and would have the ceiling repainted by the new painter. She asked for a credit for the painting and we honored her request. The first mention of uneven texture to Christians, Inc. was in this Angie’s List complaint. Neither Matt nor Keith saw any unevenness. Again, Christians, Inc. would have no problem coming back and addressing this issue had we been given the opportunity. Christians, Inc. did not charge [member name removed] for a dumpster. Per our estimate, we charged her to “haul debris per truck load – including dumping fees”. Spraying texture and repairing ceilings requires a lot of plastic to cover the walls and floor especially due to the fact we actually put plastic up twice in the basement. (Once when we scraped and sealed the ceiling, and a second time when we returned to spray the new texture.) This was done to give [member name removed] her TV room for the evening. Regardless, the debris was loaded into Keith’s van, driven to the Christians, Inc. office, and disposed of in the Christians, Inc. dumpster. Drywall was repaired. There was water damage around the light fixture when it was taken down. Keith repaired and skimmed out this area. No insulation was replaced in the kitchen. Keith and [member name removed] agreed to replace the insulation in the basement as it was full of rodent feces and urine instead of replacing the insulation in the kitchen as this was not damaged. The light fixture is removed from the junction box, but the wires were not disconnected. The fixture was then wrapped in plastic to protect it during spraying, and then reinstalled. The ceiling fan was done in a similar fashion. Christians, Inc. values customer service, and for nearly 26 years we have relied on customer satisfaction as our advertising. We expect our employees to go above and beyond for our customers. For example, Keith points out a caulking issue around [member name removed] patio door and took care of it as a customer courtesy. Christians, Inc. told [member name removed] it would be no trouble to come back and address the ceiling issues. [member name removed] never informed Christians, Inc. of her concern that the texture was uneven, rather she elected to hire another contractor and file a complaint. Christians, Inc. will not honor [member name removed] request for resolution and will not make any counter offer. Sincerely,"
Adam was great, he came out once himself to look at the site, and then a couple days later the actual installer came to look, in the process of putting together a quote for us. The cost came in within the amount allocated by insurance. We were out of town when we finalized the contract, and Adam was generous in stopping by our house in person to pick up the deposit check when we got back so that we could get everything started a few days sooner.
Adam also hauled away some scrap metal that we needed to dispose of (that had to be moved in order to take the old shed down), at no extra charge which we were grateful for.
The work was done over the course of two afternoons. The crew was polite and cleaned up after themselves, and the new shed is pretty much exactly like the old one.
We are happy with the experience of working with Christians and with the work they did for us.
