George was fair with the price of the windows. Dave and Mike (the installer) were terrific. They ran into a couple of unforseen problems related to the original construction of the home, and they did a fantastic job of overcoming that obstacle and getting the project done. Great company to work with.
Description of Work: We had new windows installed throughout the home. George allowed us to break up the project in two parts to help accommodate our budget.

The completed work is very good. The installers were great, doing the work quickly and doing a good job cleaning up each day. There was a small snafu related to the garage siding, but the company quickly addressed the issue. The only slightly negative feedback I would have related to communication. We had to call a few times thorough the process One was to find out when the work was scheduled to begin ( there was a month delay between signing the contract and work starting which was fine, but we just didn't know when they were targeting the start date.) the others were to deal with the garage issue and to find out the status of the completion. Work was finished for almost a week before the dumpster was picked up from the front of our house. We still have some left over materials next to the driveway and are still waiting for the handle for our sliding door to at arrive and be installed. I've been assured that will happen as soon as the handle is shipped to them. But I had to call to get those status updates and it would have been nice if they had proactively told us that information Aside from that, everyone from sales to install have been great, professional and have done top notch work. I'd happily recommend them to anyone else.

George came to our home and was very patient in answering questions I had ranging from installing an egress window in our basement to a new front door. I have some other ideas for work I'd like done on our house, and asked him to give me ballpark estimates for those. He patiently obliged my requests. We are most interested in a new front door as our current door is extremely inefficient. His verbal estimate seemed reasonable within our budget, but the actual written estimate we received a couple days later was quite a bit more than the verbal. We decided it was not within our budget to go with Exterior Enhancements for this project.

George came out to look at my windows, recommend replacements and give me an estimate. He was punctual, thorough and very professional. The kind of windows I needed had to be obtained through a subcontractor, Eagle Windows, and George made the necessary arrangements for them to come in and measure. The windows had to be custom made and stained to match existing windows. The job was well-done, on time, and within the estimate. I am very satisfied with the new windows, and I would hire Exterior Enhancements again.
Description of Work: I ordered new windows to replace six very old, leaky windows in my 135-year-old house.

The initial representative that worked with us did not itemize the list of windows and thus the order was wrong. This house was a foreclosure and we did extensive renovations prior to moving in. I just happened to be at the house when I saw their work crew about to throw my living room picture window with the original stained glass into the dumpster out front. I was able to stop it and have them replace the window. I found out later that this representative was no longer with the company by December 2009. The window that was incorrectly ordered was very expensive and I had to eat the cost. There was also an additional window that was not ordered that had to be ordered late. Two of the windows were improperly installed and it took three service visits to get the right window in the right frame. Our permit has still not been cleared because the company has not responded to the building inspector for Minneapolis regarding certification that the windows installed next to a door on the second floor, in the second floor bathroom, and on the staircase are shatter proof as required. During the installation of a window on the mudporch the crew left for the night leaving the hole exposed and rain coming into the house. One of the screens was damaged upon installation and I was told by a representative that he would order a replacement for me and I have never heard back from him or received a replacement for the supposedly guaranteed screen. In the Spring of 2010 I called to see why I still had not heard from them about installing the window on the staircase. I was told that they thought I had been told that the window came in damaged or wrong and had to be reordered. I think all the windows are in the right place now, but the installation remains a problem. Some of the windows work well, and are easy to close and lock. Other windows are extremely loose. Some are so tight I have to use both hands and shove to get them open and closed. All of the windows take several tries of moving both the upper and lower pains around before I can get the locking mechanism to engage. And I was told I had ordered the higher quality windows. Overall I would never use this company again. It was a tremendous amount of money to spend for something that still problematic. 02/22/2011 After posting the above review I was contacted by the owner who immediately offered to send someone to my home to fix the continuing problems with the windows. They did come promptly and did address the remaining issues. I had a very up and down experience with this company which may have just been my bad luck. They were earnest about making the fixes, but the overall experience was not the best.
Description of Work: The services were performed between September 2009 (ordering) and April 2010. We ordered 12 replacement windows for our home.

Great price and good service. Replacement work fabulous. The new window installation was good but not great because the exterior window trim and caulking were messy. BUT we did NOT call them about this! Since we opted to do the finish work ourselves i.e. paint the exterior, we simply re-caulked prior to painting. All three window Look and Work great, inside and out. We are very pleased.

Response from Exterior Enhancements Inc
This is not our customer. We are contacting Angie's List to remove this.
After hooking up with an unscrupulous contractor who told me to "call another contractor" if I didn't believe him, I turned to Angie's list. I had a knot in my stomach and if I was going to call another contactor, I wanted to call a good one. I selected Exterior Enhancements because they had honors on Angie's list. George answered my call and explained that if I hadn't given the previous contractor any money and I hadn't been given a written estimate I was free to select another contractor. He said, just allow us to give you an estimate. By the time I was done speaking with him on the phone, the knot in my stomach was gone. He came to my house with samples and explained that if I had a specific product in mind they would use it but they could give me the best price if I used their usual suppliers. I had already picked out roofing, siding and windows because I had been dealing with the previous contractor for about 4 months so I showed George the brochures and samples I had picked up myself from a local supplier. He reviewed my choices. They installed the same roof. No change. They used a different siding supplier. I had to change my color selection from Thistle to Cyprus. Scary but the Cyprus turned out to be perfect with the roof color. I had specifications in hand and a price list for the windows and told him I wanted energy star rated windows because I wanted the $1500 tax rebate. George explained that they would install the precise windows I had selected but asked me to consider the window they usually installed. It had a better energy star rating, was more attractive from both the inside and outside and better still--they were $3000.00 lower than what the previous contractor had quoted. I decided to go with the windows George recommended. Now the work begins and I meet Dave, the co-owner who is onsight with the roofing crew. The new roof is done in 2 days including the redesign of the porch roof which needed to be extended to stop the water from pouring into the window wells and leaking into my basement. They installed the roof with what they called a 'California Weave' which eliminated the metal piece you normally have where one part of the roof meets the next. It looks beautiful and I can't even see the required vents but they are there because we passed city inspection. The siding work begins and they remove the old soffit and fascia only to discover there is no ventilation even though there were vents in the old aluminum soffit cover. It had been installed against solid wood. They added ventilation without increasing the estimate and without complaint. No more ice damns for me! They wrapped the house in that fabric stuff and then wrapped it again in polar wrap that looks like styrofoam. Before they finish the siding, the windows go in. I don't know how they did it but on the inside of my house, it doesn't look like the window frames were touched. My inside trim is painted white emamal and I figured it would at least be chipped or cracked. To my surprise, it wasn't. When we got to the outside trim for the windows I had told George that I wanted them trimmed in Azek and not wrapped in aluminum. That was my first change request and George cautioned that Azek was costly. He brought the new estimate. It wasn't all that much so that is what I selected. When the trim on the outside of the windows was being done, I was shown a 'mock-up' of what Dave and George thought I wanted. It looked like a flat picture frame around my new windows. I really didn't like it and the installer said he didn't think I would and that is why he showed it to me before they continued. I told him I wanted my windows to look as though they had been 'built' into the house with real window frames. Once again, without extra cost and without complaint the flat Azek was returned and molded Azek appeared at my house for the window trim. The window installer did another 'mock-up'. It was perfect! Even though I did not replace the little windows in my detached garage, they trimmed them, the side entry door and the garage doors all in Azek so they would match the house. While siding the garage again a nasty discovery. The bottom of the garage was rotting because water had gotten against the wood where the old siding had been attached. Well this explains why my garage was leaking water and why so much water had come into the garage the previous winter that my garage doors froze to the floor. They had nothing to nail into to attach the new siding. Again, they had suggestions on how to solve the problem and the end result looks like the garage was built that way. I didn't want the job to look like a patchwork quilt. I wanted everything to match and look like the house was built that way. They made it happen. When we discussed the new gutters I told George I wanted covers put on so the soft maple helicopter-llike seeds would not get into my gutters. I had researched the helmut type and according to reviews they kept out everything except those seeds. George told me they had just found a new product and asked me if I would like to try it. It was less expensive than the helmut type of cover and in his opinion he thought it would keep out the seeds. They installed it in the spring just before the seeds fell. It worked! My gutters are still running free of seeds and leaves. The last issue was the side entry porch. It was originally built with just storm windows and screens. Initially Dave thought the old storm windows could be saved and all I would need is the wood framing replaced with Azek. When they began the demolition another nasty surprise. The storm windows were brittle and cracking. Okay, now my second change request. I wanted to replace the storm windows all along but also learned to take George an Dave's advice so when it turned out the porch windows had to be replaced, I was actually happy. Dave told me they would order windows exactly like the old ones. I really didn't like the old ones but thought surely after 25 years the new ones would be better. I was wrong. The new storm windows were exactly like the old ones. I hated them. I said nothing because I remembered that Dave told me 'exactly' like the old ones and couldn't really complain. As luck would have it, the storms didn't fit right. Dave inspected the one that had been installed. Took pictures on his camera phone and told me he was sorry but they were unacceptable and had to go back to the manufacturer. I tenatively told him I really didn't like the storm windows and asked him if there was any chance, since they had to go back anyway, that I could upgrade to a full window. Dave smiled and said, we can certainly ask. They made it a happen. Even though there is no heat source on my porch, as of today, my 3 season porch is functioning like a 4 season porch. It feels just as warm as my kitchen when I open the back door. When I made that first call to George at the beginning, along with my said tail of woe and all the things I wanted done, I challenged him with this proposal. Since you are an honors winner on Angie's list, I not only want the work done right, at the right price, I want you to restore my pride in ownership. I am at the point where I'd like to shut the door behind me and get ride of it 'as is'. Basically, I hate my house. George said "we'll make you happpy". They did that and they did restore my pride in ownership. These guys are wizards.
Description of Work: Installed a new roof on the house and garage. Added missing ventilation in the soffit and replaced the fascia. Replaced all gutters and installed gutter covers, Installed vinyl siding with polar wrap underneath. Installed 22 energy star rated windows and trimmed them with Azek on the outside. Trimmed the garage doors in Azek. Remodeled the porch which took 6 of the new windows. Installed a new storm door on the porch and a new screen door on my entry door from the porch to the house.

Great experience yet again! We are repeat customers of this excellent company. George and Dave are ethical and stand by their work from start to finish. Windows: Per George's recommendation, we decided to go for the Eagle Window brand. They are owned by Anderson Windows and all the windows we purchased were constructed in Iowa. We researched the website and visited the Eagle Window showroom in Rogers, MN where we spoke to a wonderful guy named Trevin about the construction of the windows, the working mechanism and hardware, and viewed samples of all the different options available to us. What were are very pleased about is that the windows we purchased were triple pane and each window was custom made to our specifications. We also had the option of having them pre-stained and finished prior to installation, a great plus given the interior was hardwood. The installation process was very clean with minimal disturbance to our walls, tile and wallpaper even when one of the windows was enlarged to accomodate egress code requirments. We can already tell that our home is better insulated and look forward to better heating costs during the winter. Soffits: The soffit installation was also a clean job from start to finish and the final result took decades off the look of our home. (This was a good thing) It was clear to us that the crew was determined to do the neatest job possible, lining everything up and following the contours of our roofline, doorways etc. In closing, we appreciate that Exterior Enhancements is very conscientous about building codes, city permits and doing everything according to the letter of the law so the homeowner doesn't have unwelcome surprises in the future. We really appreciate their integrity in this regard and would recommend them to everyone we know, hence our repeat business for this job.

Great service. I got bids from 4 contractors, and although Exterior Enhancements was not the lowest, I felt like they were most likely to perform the job correctly and on time. I was not disappointed. Scheduling was a little tricky, but this was due to the large number of people that were trying to get their windows done before the end of the tax year, and the subsequent backlog at the factory (I confirmed this independently). Additionally, they went beyond the call of duty in terms of providing the required documentation I needed. They were also the only contractor that knew the Saint Paul egress window requirements with out me having to tell them. The others would have installed windows that wouldn't have met code, and then when the final inspection on the permit was done, we would have failed and had to have had 3 windows replaced.

I contacted Exterior Enhancements some months ago and signed a contract for the installation of Eagle windows for my townhouse. I dealt directly with George Fitzenberger throughout the entire negotiation and installation periods. Mr. Fitzberger was always on time for the appointments we had, provided excellent information and direction as to what he would suggest I purchase, always returned my many telephone calls, and answered all of the many questions I had. As a result of this excellent assistance, I did purchase and have installed four sets of Eagle Windows which were installed by the the workmen from Eagle Windows. Here too, I was perfectly satisfied with the installation and follow-up that occurred afterward. His workmen from Eagle did a great job of installation and after they left, the clean-up was so thorough that you wouldn't have even known they had been at my townhouse except for the installation of these fine windows. I would not hesitate to work with Mr. Fitzenberger again, and I highly recommend both his company and the Eagle workmen.

Response from Exterior Enhancements Inc
This response is meant to be a explanation, not an excuse. We take the member's constructive criticism very seriously. At the time this project was sold & installed, our company was being pushed to capacity by the volume of business that we were experiencing. We try to keep our pricing fair & competitive by controlling our overhead costs as much as possible. Because of the cyclical nature of exterior remodeling, you can't hire additional help when needed, without laying them off during the winter when business slows down. We try to avoid layoffs. The downside of this strategy, however is inadequate personnel when the volume of business exceeds our capacity to deal with it properly. We understand how important service to our customers is, and will work harder to be more consistent in the future.

They did a very good job replacing all items I have asked them to do. The price was lower than other contractors I have requested for bids. The job was done well and they clean up after themselves everyday they were on site. I am generally very happy with their work. They were to begin work about 5 weeks after I place the order, and it took a few weeks longer before they start work. I have to call them to remind them of my work order before they began work. The job took longer than the number of days they initially told me to finish. My suggestion is to stay on top of them to get the job started on time. Do not wait for them to call. Plan to have the task taking longer to finish.

What a great experience. Right off from the start when I met with George, I felt that he ran his business with great integrity and I was absolutely right. The roofing crew completed their job first and then the siding crew completed that job. The crews were punctual, hardworking, and did a beautiful job. The price was exactly as was quoted with no surprises. The estimate of the time it would take to complete the job was right on. In addition Exterior Enhancements, George, Dave, and roofer Gene get an A++ for an extra special step they took: After the roofing job was done, there was a small problem with some water dripping in in a really odd spot that was hard to find. It turned out to be a roof vent that wasn't in the best location (due to the original construction not their placement of it). This team of gentlemen were like bulldogs with this problem. They absolutely would not give up until they found out what was wrong and fixed it with no additional cost to my husband and I. They came out a few times and their detective work finally found the problem. They were available every time I called, promptly called me back, and were back out to my home in the next day or two, even though my house was probably the last one they wanted to see! It was so nice working with them that my husband and I are considering putting a new deck on next year with Exterior Enhancements!

George came to do an estimate for us. We ended up going with someone else who had done work for us before and could get us a decent price on windows we wanted, in this case, casement windows. George was terrific throughout, gave us names of folks to visit so we could see some finished jobs and talk with the very satisfied customers. In the end we did not want sliders when we could get casements at a reasonable price from someone else we had worked with from Angie's List.

George and Dave were great to work with...very professional and courteous. They returned our calls promptly and answered all of our questions. One window was accidentally ordered in the wrong size, but a new one was ordered and the issue resolved in a timely manner. Our only real complaint it that the installers were not always very careful about walking on their drop cloth, and our carpets did end up with a couple of stains. That being said, we had no complaints about the quality of the installation work they did.

This company is responsive and professional. I e-mailed a request for estimate and they responded promptly and set a time to come to my home. Doug was right on time, showed me a "demo" unit and after looking over the job, quoted me a price. I did "shop" several other companies but decided on Exterior Enhancements. A small pricing snafu was quickly and professionally resolved to my satisfaction and the job proceeded. Dave contacted me once the windows were in and set an installation date. The morning of the installation, the windows arrived right on time prior to the installer coming as Dave said they would. The installer was right on time as well and did an outstanding installation. He was professional, friendly, and on task. The inside work was accomplished in one day... the exterior work the next. Clean up was immaculate. A very good experience for me all around. I already notice a difference in the energy efficiency of these windows. It is definitely cooler in the house. I would highly recommend this company and the Polaris product.

George was the first people we gave estimate on, did an excellent job explaining their benefits and didn't try to hard-sell us like many of the other companies we got estimates on. We chose them as their windows are high quality and had a good price. They started within the time window specified and completed within their estimation. We've had the windows for about a year now through a cold winter and hot start to summer and the windows have been great. The temperature of the house is now even and we don't have any more cold/hot areas near the windows. The windows operator wonderfully both in winter and summer. We are extremely satisfied with our choice. The only one not satisfied is our black lab. She used to lie in the sun light through the old windows in the living room to warm up. Now she has to lie in the light from the back door window (which we did not replace) because it is the only window whose light warms her up.

I was very pleased. Crew ( one or two men) were on time. They kept job site very clean and took up all debris. There was no damage to carpets or window treatments. Window quality (Simonton) was very good. George, the owner was very responsive and returned calls very quickly.

Response from Exterior Enhancements Inc
Angie's List member came into our office looking for a specific thickness of aluminum soffit panel. We gave him samples to take home. He was supposed to call us back with amount needed. When he eventually called. he was called back immediately, a message was left, and we never received a return call. We feel grade is unjustified. We would never purposefully turn away business.

I found them in Angie's List. They are good at communicating We did the work in December when it was cold and windy. It wasn't possible for them to come and work on certain days. They let us know when they would be coming to do the work and also about the work that was rescheduled. I had given my garage keys in which we had stored the windows and we both forgot about it. He came rushing back from Bloomington to Maple Grove during the peak hour to return my keys. They were the best price we got but there weren't vastly better than others. It ended up a little bit more than what we had anticipated, because we kept adding things. The work that they did was great. They cleaned up after themselves.
Description of Work: Exterior Enhancements Inc redid our entire windows.
