When the two sales guys from Hanson's came into my HOME, I told them the following:1. We are soliciting multiple bids and will decide within the next 10 days on the winning bid. 2. That the current range of bids on our home was $5900 to $8600. Then these guys tried giving us a power point presentation and were yelling, even though we were sitting right next to them. (?!)After a half hour of this we just asked for them to bid. They kept talking without saying anything! For like another 30 minutes ughhhh. They finally gave us a bid of .....get this.....$30,000!!! We said NO! We are not interested in your magical roofing materials from hogwartz story (give me a break). I said thanks have a nice day. They kept talking! He said hey wait let me call my manager! THen they came back with $19,000 bid. (?) I said wow that is such a neat trick, do people fall for that? Now get out please. They refused to leave! At this point I considered them trespassing and asked them to leave more sternly. They kept talking! Then became abusive and rude. I was now at the point of considering calling the police and let them know. They finally left.
Description of Work: Hanson's sent people around our neighborhood in grand ledge soliciting contract work. We agreed to meet with a roofing sales person to discuss a contract.

Horrible! It was the single worst experience I have ever had with a service provider. They were late, didn't pull a required, building permit, one of the panes was broken before it ever arrived at my home, the window was dropped during installation and was installed anyway, they didn't bring enough supplies for the job and I ended up having to give them some insulation that I already had around, and they didn't bring the proper tools for the job and literally cut the drywall with a sawzall which looks horrible. Note that when the window was dropped, the two guys carrying it had inspected it before they installed it. The first time it rained after the window was installed, water leaked in through the top of the window so I called Hansons and asked them come out and take a look and seal up the visible gaps in the outer siding they had installed around the window so that the leaks would stop. They sent out the guy that headed up the crew that did the work, who of course said there was nothing wrong with the window or his own work and that the leak was coming through the 1 year-old roof I had installed by another company. This was incorrect and was so obviously incorrect that I called the main corporate office to try to get help. Not only would they not help me, but when my boyfriend called the number for Brian Elias that the sales guy had given us in case we ever had trouble getting help any other way, Mr. Elias actually called my boyfriend a moron! I then had both a roofing company and the local city building inspector come verify that it was the window and not the roof that was the problem. I had both of them give me written reports that it was the window that was leaking and not the roof. When the city building inspector wrote his report, he listed 7 separate apparent/possible code violations including that the window was damaged in a way that was consistent with being dropped, that the window was not properly sealed which was most likely causing leaks, that the home was not properly weather-proof because drafts could be felt coming into the home, that the required bulding permit had not been obtained for the job, and questioning whether or not the window had been properly supported when it was installed. After learning that the window which was dropped had been damaged during the drop and that they had installed it anyway knowing it had been damaged, and after receiving the city building inspector's report with so many items being listed on his report, I decided to file a formal complaint with the State of Michigan construction enforcement division. This complaint is in process and the State is telling me that it could take several more months before it is finalized. In the meantime, I thought I should make this post so that maybe others will not have to go through the mess and difficulties that I have had to go through - not to mention the waste of SO much money and time.
Description of Work: Replaced an existing huge window, installed a smaller custom bow window, and then built in, insulated, drywalled, and sided the area around the new bay window.

They sent out a crew of three gentlemen to install the 12 windows. They arrived as stated on time, between 9-9:30 and they were on time. They completed the interior installation of my windows. They did have a problem with the external wrapping and that is still on hold. I was very impressed with the windows and how they did the work and their efficiency. I had some trepidation initially when I first met with their salespeople in July. I was concerned about the price point. After seeing the windows installed, I like them. They also did new sills, which was part of the price. I was told I paid a decent price about the commodity and I am feeling better about the price. I am planning to have them do additional work.

We went with them because of their price and because they had a better warranty than other companies. The roof looks nice. It took longer than they said, they didn’t show up when they were supposed to, and they haven’t finished the gutter guards because of a problem with the subcontractors.

I explained above. Thank you!!
Description of Work: We decided not to go with Hanson's because of the negative report on your list. I called the toll free number and canceled the appointment but it didn't end before I got an ear full (from marketing). There was nothing professional about the way I was spoken to. The woman I spoke with was very curt, bad tempered and she seemed to forget that I did have the freedom and choice not to use them.

we were told that the appointment would last 1 hour; it was 1.5 hrs into the appt and we told the salesman that we made another commitment--thinking that he would take the hint and leave. A half hour later he was still here. As the time wore on, throughout the appointment, when he realized that we were just getting quotes and we would not make a decision that night, he became more agressive; he interupted us; talked over us and became more and more beligerent the further into the meeting. What made it bad--he had another gentleman with him that he was "training"! The training video has Brian Elias telling prospective customers that if we are unhappy/unsatisfied for any reason--just call him; we did; still haven't heard back. Do they have a good product for roofing? Probably---the problem with the salesperson is that he doesn't know what his product really is----RELATING TO PEOPLE!. I would never buy anything from this company if that is how they train their staff!.

My experience was terrible. We had two men come up from Detroit who complained all the time and drank on the job. They put the wrong color of trim up and it didn't meet at the corners. They just said "oh well, it's already up" and wouldn't take responsibility and fix it. My husband's lawyer ended up sending them a letter and all they did was come and say they had more lawyers than we did. Overall, my experience was awful.

First off, I paid a lot more for their service with the thought that they are a large professional company with a reputation to uphold. As it turned out, they just sub-contracted the work to some schmucks from flint that pulled up in a crappy old van. The job seemed to go okay. It wasn't until they were finished that I really noticed all the damage, from the ladders, to every section of eaves trough on my house. The contractor shrugged his shoulders when I brought it to his attention. I was upset but not to concerned because I knew that Hanson's would make it right. Wrong. Sections of eaves trough fell from the house before I finally got an appropriate response from Hanson's. I agreed to pay for half the cost of materials and no labor. It got fixed and the workmanship was acceptable but when the final bill came I was charged for 100% of material cost. In the spring during the rains I found out the hard way that downspouts were clogged. I was working evenings and never noticed the overflow outside. I finally noticed water in the basement and a section of wall pushed in 1/4" at the base. The last insult are the shingles that came loose and fell off because they apparently blew through them with their nailer and just kept going. I have climbed up twice to nail them back. I ordered a window from Hanson's at the same time as the roof job. Nice window, installed well. There was a small tear in the screen though and evidently another breakdown in Hanson's system because that never got fixed either. I am proud to do as much work on my home as I can. It makes me skeptical of anyone who claims to be a professional.
Description of Work: Complete tear off, to start. Then redecked, and shingled. Took 24 square of shingles.

This was a large project and I wanted to choose a company that is reputable, that has been in business for a while, and also a company that has proven to do good work. My neighbors had their windows replaced by Hansons and I liked the work they did. They were very happy with their experience, so I had a Hansons representative come out to quote me on windows and siding. He was very kind, thoroughly explained the product and installation process, and wasn't pushy. The installers that came out were also clean and kind. I'm very happy with my purchase.

We had about a dozen estimates and have yet to pick one, but it won't be Hanson's. We didn't care to sit through a powerpoint show about Brian Elias' life and the "presentation" took too long. My wife had to leave after an hour and that was unnerving for the salesman. He made an appointment for the following week but then made a mistake - he said that he'd offer us a "special price" then which would promptly expire if we didn't accept it on the spot. Baloney! I called the next day and canceled.

The second rep that came out and made sure the job was done properly was very easy to work with. The original disappointment was made right overall.
Description of Work: We hired them to do a re-roof for us. They did the work very quickly... almost too quickly. We had to have them come back to replace wood that they did not replace the first time and were suppose to. The overall job was not as quality a job that it should have been. We were pleased that they responded quickly to our second call and made the job right after acknowledging that the crew was too quick and not quality enough. The original sales rep (who we understand is no longer with the company) was very pushy. We weren't pleased with him.

I called Hanson's for an estimate to side my house. The representative was over 30-minutes late for the appointment and when he arrived he was unwilling to work on the estimate, insisting that it would be better is he could come back when my spouse was available. This appointment was supposed to last 1-hour, I'd arranged my day so I could be there and there was no mention at the time of scheduling that my spouse should be present for the initial estimate (to help choose colors etc). I asked that we atleast measue etc to speed the next appointment, he declined, I felt like the guy just didn't want to work that day. I reluctantly rescheduled for another day. We both arrange to be there for Hansons together, they are late again. They start measuring this time and within 5 minutes tell me that because my attached garage has a liquid-applied cement over block they cannot do the project..So, my spouse and I apparently had to schedule time to both be there to find out: they couldn't help us.

Company originally stated job would start in 6 weeks, it started in 12 weeks. Workers were on the disreputable side and two of them urinated in the yard. The job was not completed according to the contract, and when asked about this, it took multiple phone conversations to find out that the contractors were working off the wrong contract. The company had previously told us we were wrong. When job was "completed" it was messy, and took multiple calls to get Hansons to come out and attempt to fix job. We were told that some of our concerns were not fixable. The next year, a person cleaning the gutter noticed parts of the siding not visible from the street that were not even done. This led to another marathon session of phone calls attempting to get Hansons to correct the work. In September 2008, water started entering the house and 3 other contractors all pointed to the faulty siding installation. Hansons without looking at the house, said it couldn't be the siding's fault, and we ended up having the siding reinstalled by another company. In addition to the bad work, the company failed to show up for multiple appointments, was extremely aggressive for payment (I came downstairs to find a Hanson's employee looking through a desk drawer for the checkbook. I was told I shouldn't have been worried because "that employee was a teddy bear."), and most of the people who came to the house were argumentative.

We used Hanson?s last year to replace 23 windows in our home. We paid almost $12K for low-E, vinyl-clad windows. Overall, we love the new windows; however, we did not like much else: 1. The sales process. We were sent one salesman who spent an hour in our home. When we asked questions, he said he would find the answers, packed up, & told us he would call soon. I later received a call from Hanson?s, asking if we wanted to reschedule. The sales guy had put us back into the system like we were a no show! 2. Two salesmen showed up for the next visit. They were pushy over 2 visits, spent 6+ hours in our home ? one time until after 10pm! We couldn?t get them to leave, even when we told them point blank we needed to wrap things up. We were yawning, stepping away occasionally to help our child w/homework, yet they wouldn?t leave. Again, we had lots of questions & wanted to do some research before spending a lot of money, but they attempted to sell us by dickering even more on price & calling the manager for approval for greater discounts. They practically beat us up for wanting to comparison shop. We really had to laugh after they were finally out of our house. Our experience was that the purchase price was extremely arbitrary, and open to lots of negotiation. 3. The sales guys told us they would stop by on installation day to make sure everything was going well. They never showed. 4. The sales guys outright bragged ? and used as a selling point ? the fact the installers were direct employees of Hanson?s, not sub-contractors. The guys who showed up were in another big name window seller's truck and were even wearing the other big name's t-shirts. They told us they were subcontractors for Hanson's. They did tell us they personally liked Hanson?s windows better than the other big name seller?s, so that was one point in Hanson's favor. Who knows, perhaps they were just telling us what they thought we wanted to hear. 5. The installers put the windows in without noticing some quite noticeable imperfections. We found out later, when one installer came back to fix all these problems, that the imperfections came out of the factory ? but why didn?t they notice these very obvious things the first time, when they installed them? Better yet, why were these issues not caught in quality control at the factory? For the most part, we were happy with the install itself, but these issues never should have reached our home. 21 of 23 windows needed cosmetic repairs over 2 subsequent visits. 6. The project manager didn't return my phone calls. Overall, we?re very happy w/our new windows, but dealing w/Hanson?s was a headache I?ll never repeat. I shared all of the above, in writing, with our project manager, but was never acknowledged. It?s too bad for Hanson?s; my husband and I are both very well connected in the West Michigan business community and frequently entertain in our home. If we're asked about our windows, we sure have lots to share!

The company REFUSED to give me a quote for a roof because my husband would not be present. I spoke to several people at the company and they explained that they wanted to have the best chance of selling me a roof and gas prices were too high for them to come out to talk to just me. They seemed unable to understand that, as I had hired all of our previous contractors, I would also be hiring the roofer. (I got quotes from two other roofers and hired the one I thought was best. I also dealt with any questions or concerns that came up.) NOW HANSONS IS SENDING ME E-MAILS ABOUT THEIR HOME MAKEOVER SPECIALS. Every time I have tried to get information from them about the cost and quality of their products they have not provided me any information. In my opinion they are just scam artist who try to pressure sale homeowners into purchasing their products without allowing them to research the quality and price of their product. They should not be a recommended company on the Angie's List.
Description of Work: No services where performed because the company REFUSED to provide me with a quote because my husband would not be present. I hired a different roofer after getting two quotes. I also called Hansons when I was purchasing new windows and they could not provide me with any information about their product so I bought windows from another company.
