We had hired Hanson's to replace eight of our windows a few years ago and had a decent experience. We held off on replacing four windows at the first install and decided to call them again a few years later because we were ready to replace the remaining four windows. First of all, I don't appreciate the amount of time Hanson's wasted. We expected to be treated better given that we were repeat customers, but this wasn't the case at all. We couldn't get the sales guy to leave our house and we ended up spending a few hours with him, while he called his "boss" to "get us a better deal that would surely get him in trouble." Despite their overpriced windows we decided to have them install the four windows because we used them before and were satisfied. What can I say? The windows are top quality, but the company is a joke. A few weeks later the installers came out, spent the entire day at our house, and completely botched the install! The windows and window frames looked terrible and they left a huge mess, including nails and pieces of wood on the floor in my daughter's bedroom. We attempted to contact Hanson's several times to have them fix the botched install, but they continued to ignore our calls for weeks. They finally told us they would have someone come out to review the install, the guy who came out agreed that the job was botched and the whole install would have to be redone. We were upset, but willing to work with Hanson's to resolve the issue. The installers who were supposed to fix the job missed multiple appointments causing us to take time off of work and wait for them, only to find out they weren't going to show up for whatever reason. After months of dealing with the issue they finally fixed our windows, but I will never use this company again and I tell everyone I know to stay far away from them. I refuse to give this company anymore of my time or money.

I initially called and set up an appoint for a Sat. I received a call to confirm the appointment on Thursday. The caller asked me if my wife was going to be there. I told him that I wasn't sure. He asked if I could ask her to be there. I simply told him no; I didn't feel like it mattered and she didn't want anything to do with it. The caller was so insistent and rude that I finally just canceled the appointment. The next day a supervisor called and ask about the problem. I told him about the conversation, he apologized for the caller, and offered me a gift card if I would just let them come out and prove 1-800-HANSONS. I accepted. A rather large and loud gentlemen came out a week later. He insisted that we sit in the dining room and not talk in the garage. My kids were sleeping and I already wasn't too excited about HANSONS. After a 20 min intro about 1-800-HANSONS he got to an unimpressive price quote. I told him it was high. He said he could put me in some kind of "roofing contract" saying that I might consider them when I do my roof and it would lower the price. This took the price down a little. I still told him it was high and they promised to beat any price. He called a supervisor and messed with the numbers. It came down about $50 less than my other quote, but I was still in this weird "roofing contract" that scared me. I told him that we were not going to agree to anything that day partially because we didn't have the money and partially because that was our house rule. He became significantly more rude and belittling at this point. He said if he, "could cut the price in half would I do it today?" and I still told him no. He offered us a loan and I told him we don't do loans in this house. I was not going to agree to anything that day and this just infuriated him. He became so rude that my wife stood behind him signaling that I kick him out. Kicking her foot and swinging her fist. It was rather amusing. I finally got him to leave and their is no way I would ever consider using 1-800-HANSONS after that experience. They may be able to be the competitions price, but their tactics are so mean and aggressive that I don't know how they are surviving.
Description of Work: I called for one of their representatives to come give an estimate. He came and met with me but didn't look at the insulation in my attic. I did not go with their services because of price and principle.

Our large detached garage requires a re-roofing and my wife received a phone call from Hansons asking if we wanted an estimate. Apparently someone had referred us to them.. A pair of Hansons consultants arrived around 5pm and quickly I realized that they were here for a presentation / hard sales pitch rather than just crunching numbers. They did caluclate the number of squares we'd need (which turned out to be the only useful bit of information provided by them), then sat down with my wife and I (they insisted that the husband be present) and had us watch a video of their founder and company, then continued their hour long sales pitch. They started with an absurdly high price, then performed the standard sales strategy of "let me call my boss to see if we can get a better rate", his boss said he'd give us a better rate if we put up some Hansons signs in our yard, mentioned some specials, and he even offered to give us an additional discount if we signed the contract *right now*. Even at the greatly reduced price they still were the most expensive bidder we had on the project. I told them we wouldn't be signing anything that day as they were the first company we'd called. He said that he couldn't offer me the same great deal if we didn't sign it that night. He even told me a lie to try and pressure me to sign, stating that in Michigan the law requires such contracts to be signed in the home where the work will be done. At that point my suspicion that these 'used car salemen' were just scam artists and I knew we wouldn't be going with Hansons, but our journey wasn't over... I told them that I had to leave to take my daughter to karate and thanked them for comming. They went out to their car as I left but when I returned from karate 80 minutes later they were still in my driveway waiting to continue the sales pitch. At this point I told them they were wasting their time and the sales persons attitude shifted from 'I'm trying to help you' to 'Wow, I can't believe you don't realize what a great deal this is...' I persisted and they finally left. At this point I actually began wondering if some friends of ours had played a practical joke on us by giving Hansons our phone number. In my opinion Hansons business model depends on pressuring weak willed home owners into over-priced contracts.

Install went good for both, getting the price down not so well
Description of Work: New siding and gutters, price was very good, found a much better price but Hansens would not bend on price, it took a call to the VP of the company to get them to lower there prices. Don’t bend on getting other quotes before signing!!! Work was done by a crew that was not Hansens crew but one hired by them. THey did good work, gutter crew did a ok job but was done at least a month later. Make sure your home when both are installed so you get your work done to your liking.

The job was not completed due to the fact that the (architectural bronze) aluminum to cap the outer frames was not ordered. This is unacceptable since the install was scheduled far in advance for something like this detail to be overlooked. The crew who came to install the windows were friendly, but they lacked details. After they left, we went to re-install our window treatments (curtains and blinds) we realized that the following items were not finished satisfactorily as follows: 1. One of the 3/4 round moldings were not nailed on both sides of one bedroom window. We could certainly do this on our own, although is not our job since we are paying for it. But the most concerning issue is what we found as a consequence of these un-nailed moldings, which brings us to the next point: 2. The window(s) is/are not properly insulated, and we can see a light gaps in the upper left corner of this bedroom window even though they were sprayed from the exterior with an expanding foam. Therefore, exterior hot/cold air and water will filter its way into the home. If this is the case with this window, we will assume that air gaps exists in all of the other 4 windows that were installed. I am sorry, but the low-expansion foam is not a good insulator. I am also very disappointed that a cheap molding like 3/4 round is even used as a finish molding for these windows. In addition, don?t they fill the nail holes or the the bad miters in the corners? Its extremely cheap looking for the type of replacements we ordered. (pictures attached for items 1 and 2) These add to the problems of communication we have encountered throughout the entire process. The only email address we had was the one of the sales agent. We didn't have any email address from the company or the company manager. We received emails from an address (Hansons Message Center) that states clearly "NOTICE: Please do not respond to this email as this is an automated message." They do call and there is a phone number to call, but we want(ed) more than just oral communications (we need to set things in writing and not only in their favor by means of contracts for example). When the Hansons agent called us after the installation the first time, we had not seen these problems yet. Then we were also asked by the Hanson agent whether we had sent a check with the installer (???). Of course we didn't: the job is by far not finished and these issues have been made obvious. I must say that she was friendly and accepted this fact. Overall, we are absolutely dissatisfied because we were lead to think that these windows would be installed to be a ?complete energy efficient window system?. However, ifthe window(s) are not properly insulated (gaps) what was the point of us spending the extra money for this product? We're also completely disappointed with the tolerances of these replacements as I expected a much tighter fit. These wide tolerances are obviously done so the installs go quickly and the crew goes off to the next HANSON work order. We have sent our complaints in writing to Hansons via the sales agent's email address (since we have no other way to contact them and we want something in writing, not only phone). Obviously, the exterior trimming cannot take place unless the problems below are fixed first. And any crew must take its time to do any job properly. We'll stick to what was said many times to us: "you (the customer) don't have to pay until you're 100% satisfied." We'll add updates to this review when we things change (for the better we hope) PS. At the end of the first part of the job, the workers asked me to sign two documents, one of them stating that we were satisfied. My husband was not at home, so I signed but wrote that I was satisfied with the work (one of the workers was present seeing me signing, circumstances under which one is pressured of course. It is known that no one can write/sign an objective assessment if the person involved is in the room) but that was unhappy with the outcome and that the whole installation was incomplete. We discovered the flaws described above just the day after, when we started to put our blinds and curtains back. We sent emails to their office as well as the salesman. It was not easy to send a personal email since there is only a corporate email address. They called back and my husband explained the problems as detailed above. He also requested to have a different crew, one that would not be in a hurry to finish the job (to go to the next). This second time the crew took its time and corrected all the problems + reviewed all installations. Ok, we paid the balance. Two weeks later, when my husband climbed the walls to clean the gutters, he realizes they didn't complete the caulking of the aluminum wrapping of two windows. We won't call again, we'll fix it ourselves. Bottom line: windows are good. Services are poor. [And, on top of this, when we told them about some non-positive reviews in Angie's list, they simply said that those reviews were uploaded by competing companies---this goes against Angie's list principles and we don't believe it].
Description of Work: (5) windows were purchased and installed at our home. Contract was signed and 30% paid on Sept 17, 2012. First crew visit was Oct 4, but job was not finished. Second visit was Oct 10, 2012 and job was finished (read below to understand all we had to do to get the job finished to our satisfaction). Bottom line: windows are great. Service was not good at all.

We requested a quotation for a new roof on our home and the salesman was extremely aggressive and pushy. He made us sign an agreement based upon his walk around estimate of the size of the job, and based his price on it. Upon reading the contract I became aware that Hanson's could change the price and we were locked in to using them because we accepted their financing option. I cancelled with the 3 day period and then received a very nasty phone call from the salesman. After a few moments on the telephone he began to berate and yell at me, at which point I hung up. Under no circumstances would I ever do business with this company.

Last year I purchased replacement windows from Hansons. To be honest, it was a complete shot in the dark. We had several companies give us quotes and the prices were all pretty comparable to theirs. The sole factor that made us choose Hansons was the comfort level we felt with the sales rep, Ben Love. Additionally, once the windows were installed we were overwhelmingly satisfied with the quality of the work. Even the contractors were eager to please when we expressed some concerns during installation. To me, it's clear that their philosophy of excellent customer service works. Recently my wife and I decided that it was time to have siding installed and without even seeking multiple qoutes, we scheduled a an appointment with Hansons and Alex Fago (who is also an outstanding employee) sold us siding which is to be installed 6-8 weeks from now. We couldnt be more excited to have a house makeover. I'm confident that we'll be just as satisfied as when we purchased windows. Thank goodness that Hansons runs such a great company.

The salesmen were very aggressive. The main selling point was the lifetime guarantee. We would not have to pay for roofing needs again. When they came, they came with two crews. The work was done fast - too fast. Another contractor working on a neighbor's roof found 18 things that were done wrong - including a hole in the roof! We are having them come fix the issues.

You don't have to worry about anything with this company. It was an A plus experience. This was the first major contract I have dealt with. Everything the salesman said matched up. It was exactly what he said and I was overly impressed. They were also able to negotiate the price by $2300. The salesman was also very personable. The clerk at the office communicated well before and after the project. They are really interested in putting the customer's needs first throughout the entire company.

They were recommended to us by a neighbor. Our home has a lot of peeks and gables and the people that came to sell us the product were great, but the roofers that came to do the work took a couple of short cuts at the end. They had to come back because they did not put flashing on the edges. Water was coming into the kitchen causing mold over my stove. It also caused the dry wall to come down in my dining room. They had to come back three times to repair what they did. They were supposed to guarantee their work, and they had someone come out to repair the ceiling in the dining room. That person did a great job, but the people that came for the roof, even after the third time, did not do it correctly.
Description of Work: They worked on the roof on our home.
