I used Hayes plumbing for years. The father-in-law was reasonable and honest. Since the change of ownership, I continued to use Hayes plumbing but defiantly felt the pricing was much higher. I recently had an estimate and finally asked for a break down of the charges. Come to realize he's just flat out ripping me off. I asked for him to hold off on the work until I decide what to do. He then proceeds to send me a service fee just for coming out to look at it. After years and years of service and thousands of dollars I have spent with them over the years.. Your thinking is short term, but hey as long as your getting your money. Not a good business strategy.

May 9th I called Shane Hayward of One Call Restoration to see if he could come to my house to give me an estimate for bathroom repair. I sent an email confirmation: and quot;Shane: Per our telephone conversation today, we set up a meeting for tomorrow at 5:30. Thank you so much for your help!and quot; May 10th Shane looked at my bathroom, asked me what I wanted done, and said he would work up an estimate. He also would get in touch with Gregg Hayes of Hayes Plumbing to get his plumbing estimate. May 24th I hadn't heard from either of them for several weeks so I emailed Shane: and quot; Were you able to make an estimate for me? Let me know. Thanks.and quot; May 29th I called Shane this morning and asked if he could give me an estimate. He said that Gregg went on vacation for the Memorial Holiday so hasn't been able to talk to him. (He had 2 weeks before that!) He hopes to call Hayes today and discuss the cost of fixing my bathroom. Shane also said he did read my 5/24 email but wanted to talk with Gregg before responding. June 3rd Shane responded to my 5/24 email by sending me this: and quot;Hi, I spoke w/Gregg. He would like to look at your bathroom together again. He sees so many bathrooms and he said he can't remember your bathroom. (Both Shane and Gregg promised to fix my bathroom 2 years ago.) He would like to meet me there to go over options before giving a price. What do you have available for us to meet? Thanks, Shaneand quot; I emailed him back the same day: and quot;Shane, Tomorrow at 5:30 would work for me, also Saturday afternoons. If you want to do it next week, Monday through Thursday at 5:30 would work. Thanks.and quot; June 7 Shane emailed me: I checked w/ Gregg and he would be able to meet on Monday @ 5:30 (if that works for you). Please let me know and I will plan on meeting then. Thanks, Shaneand quot; I responded the same day: and quot;Sounds Great!!and quot; June 11 Both Shane and Gregg were waiting in the street when I arrived at my house. They both looked at the bathroom while talking about what needed to be done. Shane asked me if I wanted tile around the bathtub instead of a surround. I said it would depend on the cost. I asked if he could give me an estimate with the cost of a tub surround and with tile. Shane asked me if I wanted tile on the floor. I said that I had bought a new vinyl floor from American Flooring, which is downstairs. Shane was the one that had recommended this company when both he and Gregg looked at my bathroom 2 years ago and were supposed to fix it then. Shane asked if I wanted a new vanity. Again, I told him to tell me in his estimate how much it would cost. I told him that I wanted new wood floor trim and a new ceiling fan. I would wait for his estimate before even considering a new medicine cabinet and bathroom light. He said okay. Gregg was talking about how I might have to buy a new tub because my tub could crack when he tries to pull it out to fix the plumbing and have Shane replace the floor. We went downstairs to look at the bathroom plumbing and flooring – or lack thereof. Gregg said that the City didn’t slant the pipes downward so that is why I’m having problems with water draining from the tub and sink. He showed me how much piping he would have to replace. I told Shane that I wanted a complete new floor – no patchwork – even under the tub, which is something the City didn’t do. Shane wanted to see the vinyl flooring I bought. It was still in its rapper, rolled up against the wall on top of some plastic containers. He seemed satisfied. Gregg looked at the toilet still in the box that I bought 2 years ago when they were supposed to fix everything. He didn’t like it, of course, and suggested that I take it back and buy an insulated one due to tank sweating. I said that instead I would like a hot water line going into my toilet to stop the sweating. Gregg was against that and said that an insulated toilet would be better, should last a very long time, and will have a life time warranty. I wonder how I would collect on the warranty. Gregg thought about it and then said that he has an insulated toilet (what a coincidence) and would trade me. Then Shane asked me when I would want the work done. I was surprised because I wasn’t sure what projects he and Gregg were currently working on and how I would fit into their schedule. I thought they would tell me when THEY were available. I hesitated and then decided to give them a month to figure out their estimates. After receiving them I would know what new bathroom fixtures I could afford to buy and have time to buy them. Also because the date is far enough out I wouldn’t be interfering with their other projects. Shane, Gregg and I agreed they would start work on Monday, July 9th. June 26 I emailed Shane: and quot; How’s it going? I was wondering what you and Gregg came up with for an estimate of my bathroom remodel? I thought I would ask now since you two will probably be on vacation next week. Thanks for your time.and quot; Shane never responded. July 9 Today is supposed to be Shane and Gregg’s first day of work on my bathroom remodel. I called Gregg since I didn't have my address book. I said that I haven't received their estimates. I've emailed Shane but he hasn't responded - he must be busy. Gregg said they were waiting for me to buy the vanity and tub (?) and get back with them. I asked him, and quot; How do I know what to buy if I don't have your estimates? I don't know if I can buy a vanity, medicine cabinet, or tile. It all depends on what you and Shane will charge for labor.and quot; Previously, Gregg mentioned buying a tub but only if they crack my current one when taking it out. Why would I buy a tub if I don't need it? Gregg said he would work up a quick estimate for me and will talk to Shane this Wednesday. I said fine. I let him know that my toilet broke. Gregg was surprised and said he would call Shane today and get back with me. I hope so. Gregg Hayes just called me and first gave me a quote of $3,400! I thought and quot;Oh no, I won't have money for Shane's work!and quot; But when he mentioned that the high cost was due to being in East Lansing, I mentioned that I lived in Lansing - not East Lansing. He looked at his paperwork and apologized. He was looking at the wrong house. He said his charge goes by the homeowners taxes and East Lansing taxes are very high. Gregg then gave me a quote of $1,350! Yeah? Two years ago both their estimates totaled $1,800. July 10 I checked my emails and Shane STILL hasn't responded to my request to email me his estimate! This is after Gregg told him that I didn't have one and this is what everyone is waiting on. What is wrong with him? If he didn't have my estimate done, he should have worked on it last evening so it would be ready today. I'm really wondering about his work ethics. How can I hire him if I don't know how much he's going to charge? July 11 I called Shane at 4:19 and got his voice mail. I left a message asking about my estimate and giving him my contact info AGAIN. That's strange. In the past he always answered his cell phone. Gregg said he was going to see Shane today. If I don't hear from Shane soon, I'm going to call Gregg and ask what's up with Shane. Does he need to find someone else to do the carpentry work? July 12 It was about 10:30 and I still hadn't heard from Shane. Out of frustration, I called Gregg. I asked if he saw Shane yesterday. Gregg said and quot;Yes, I saw Shane yesterday, and I talked to him the day before that.and quot; I said and quot;I haven't heard from him. I tried calling him yesterday without luck. I'm not sure what to do. I purposely put my repair/remodel ahead enough in the future so he would be able to schedule me in better. It doesn't seem to be working.and quot; Gregg said he would talk to Shane again today and see what's up. I'm just about ready to suggest getting a new carpenter/handyman. Well, as you have probably figured out neither Shane Hayward nor Gregg Hayes have ever contacted me again. So I'm looking on Angie's list for more reliable, more professional workmen. I cannot recommend Shane Hayward of One Call Restoration or Gregg Hayes of Hayes Plumbing.
Description of Work: Two years ago I had a leaky pipe and Hayes Plumbing fixed it. I was very impressed. So later when I found out that I not only had a leaky toilet but also a rotted bathroom floor, I called Gregg Hayes of Hayes Plumbing once again. He contacted a carpenter named Shane Hayward of One Call Restoration that works with him to remodel/repair homes. I trusted them to be professional and fulfill their promises. That didn't happen. Both Shane and Gregg promised to fix my bathroom 2 years ago but Shane called 2 days before saying he needed to help a family that just had a fire. I never heard from him since. I should have gotten a clue from this of his unprofessionalism. Being naive, I called Shane again last May to ask if he would repair my bathroom - new floor, new toilet, and depending on the cost - tile around the tub and a new vanity/sink. He said he would need to contact Gregg Hayes of Hayes Plumbing and they both would need to come over to look at my bathroom again in order to give me an estimate.

The company showed up timely and corrected by problem (water backing up onto my patio and leaking through the slider doors into my basement). The worker was polite and knowledgeable. He helped by giving some advice as to how to prevent future problems, which I appreciated. That said, he did not do what I was advised would be done when I booked the work with the business owner, which was to send cameras through the drains, nor did he seem to be aware it had been arranged that the drains would be inspected by camera. On evaluating the job, the worker satisfied me that the cameras were not needed. However, when I contacted the owner afterward to advise him that less work had been needed (jetting drains only as opposed to making a camera inspection inside the drains and cleaning them), he would not give any price adjustment for the lesser amount of low-tech work done. Further, the workman used my garden hoses to connect his truck pump to my water supply. I thought the company should have been prepared with its own hoses. (What would have happened had I not owned sufficient hoses?) When the work was finished, he did not re-roll my hoses, leaving this for me to do (I'm a disabled woman). Overall, I paid $400 for a worker to come to my house, connect his pump to my well and use my water through hoses I supplied, and shoot pressurized water through my drains to clean them. This work took no more than 45 minutes, tops, and I was left to clean up afterward. I also was advised how to maintain the drains in the future, which I appreciated as the new homeowner who hadn't had this sort of situation at any home I'd ever owned. Nonetheless, I thought $400 for 45 minutes of uncomplicated work for which I had to supply materials and clean up afterward was excessive, and the business owner's refusal to adjust the price when the job was less complicated than anticipated felt unfair. In the end, though my problem was corrected, I felt ill-used by this business, and if I ever need to have my drains jetted again I will hire someone else.
Description of Work: This company jetted out the drains underneath my patio, which is recessed below ground level. The drains carry water to the storm sewer.

Mr. Hayes was on time, did a great job and I am very pleased with the new shower that I have. The estimate he gave me was $400-$500. I usually figure that actual costs will go about 50% above estimated. The final total was $638.00, and I was OK with that.

It went great. Not only did he do the work that no one else would tackle, he did it well.
Description of Work: We had several plumbers take a look at our job of replacing a drum trap. One of them looked at it three times. We couldn't get any of them to even bid on it! We finally were reminded by family to call Greg. We should have called him first but we had fallen out of touch. Greg did the plumbing on our house 15 years ago and did a fine job. Greg and his helper attacked our problem, even to the point of having to cut out some of the floor and then patching it up when they were done. It was well worth it and we no longer forget to call Greg. He has since done two other jobs for us and always satisfies with his price and his performance.

Description of Work: I needed 2 outside faucets put in for gardening. New plumbing needed to be installed so the water to the outside faucets bypassed the water softener. A handyman who'd fixed a leak and installed my sink had looked at what I needed previously and told me that the job was too complicated for him, and required a plumber. Mr. Hayes's estimate was in the range of another plumber whom I contacted. I liked dealing with him over the phone a little better than the other plumber I spoke with. He was clear, personable, and very responsive. We were able to schedule the job soon after I called, and he was on time. He carefully explained everything he did. I'm happy with the quality of the work and with the fact that I can now water my garden.

I've used him multiple times over the last few years. He does the job that he comes out to do. We discussed another plumbing job but I think he misjudged what needed to be done in that case; someone else came in and did a very easy job. I don’t fault him for that, but I do think he misjudged the situation. He does a good job and he cleans up well.

Gregg Hayes is the owner of the company. We had gone on vacation and we had turned off the water supply to the washing machine. However, there was a leak when I came back and turned it on. They were very timely and did the work as promised. They were professional and took care of the job. I had no problems with them at all.

I got three estimates and Hayes was considerably the lowest. Another company gave a competitive estimate, but would have charged about $200 extra for the duct work. Hayes first installed the water heater and took measurements for the required duct work. We used it with the original duct until the next week when they returned and installed the new duct. They clearly explained what they were doing.
Description of Work: Took out and took away the old water heater. Provided and installed 40 gal Rheem natural gas water heater. This included replacing old 3 inch duct with 4 inch duct to conform with township regulations.

I tried to install a new undercounter dishwasher to replace a portable one and decided after many leaks that I need to get a professional. Hayes plumbing came the day after I called them at the time they said they would and completed the work quickly. They installed new piping to the new dishwasher and insured there were no leaks. They did a test run on the dishwasher to make sure everything was working properly. They also explained everything that they did.

I checked Angie's List and got a good recommendation. The Better Business Bureau said there were no complaints. I checked with the Attorney General's Office and they said there were no complaints, but did suggest that I double check with The Labor and Economic Growth Department - Plumbers Division. I did and again there were no complaints. Gregg Hayes and his partner Mike Thompson are licensed, Master Plumbers. So with these credentials I called Hayes Plumbing. Mike answered the phone and was extremely pleasant and was very flexible with my schedule. He came on time in a retired emergency vehicle. With a smile Mike said, "I heard you have a plumbing emergency!" That was the truth! I had 2 leaking pipes and a broken valve handle. Mike got right to work and finished all the work PLUS checked my kitchen faucet and hot water heater giving me recommendations for both - within an hour! He showed me his work and it was professionally done. I was pleasantly surprised by the cost. I thought it would cost a lot more. I will certainly call them for future plumbing needs. I absolutely recommend Hayes Plumbing.
