This purchase was part of a real estate transaction - they were chosen by the seller. Additional money was paid for an upgrade Maytag high efficiency propane gas furnace to be installed. In discussions prior to the installation of the furnace the owner told me he had been there to measure the house and knew what sized furnace it needed. When he showed up late for the install appointment he neither had the furnace nor supplies and he asked for directions to the basement. After getting an idea of what he needed he left to go get supplies saying he would be back at around 2pm. He never returned and didn't call until around 5:30p or so to say he would be back the next day. Next day, he installed the furnace and made arrangements for the inspector to come quickly. He also said there was a $300 or so rebate, I was happy and he left. Soon after the installation a puddle of water formed under the furnace right near the newly installed condensate pump and a squeak developed that sounded like a gerbil wheel going around every time it ran. During the visit he called a visitor and me "thick women" .... not prone "to getting very cold" ... not one to take much offense, my visitor laughed at such a lack of couth from a business owner while he got his "thick" body down and fiddled around under the furnace. He then shimmed some duct work and may have oiled a vent flap. The noise stopped and no further water under the furnace. To this day no further issue with either one. Interesting! He showed up in a reasonable enough time and his defensive diagnosis was that the water was from a leak elsewhere and the squeak was not the furnace. A couple weeks later we were awakened in the night to the furnace running constantly shutting off for less than a minute then restarting and the smell of something burning. Worried the two events might be related we called A Perfect Temp Heating and Cooling - left an emergency message as the voicemail instructions said to. Meantime, a friend with some knowledge checked it out and said the smell was coming through the furnace but there was no immediate danger. No call from A Perfect Temp H & C for over 9 hours and when I got the call the owner was again defensive, very rude and begrudgingly agreed to send a technician out a couple hours later. Even though the only time the burnt smell was detected was when the furnace was running - he said "...just like I thought. No burnt smell and it is not the furnace." "We have furnaces that never shut off in this bitter cold." NO offer to explain the smell, no gee I don't understand that, no gosh that is awful, nothing ... just defensive, sarcastic verbalizations from both technician and owner. No bill was left for either visit and there was no mention of any charges for these visits. A few days later I discovered by coincidence what the smell was ... It turns out the cold air return (exterior) for the furnace was sucking in low hanging wood smoke from a neighbors wood burner during the evening and night time. I called A Perfect Temp H & C to let them know I figured it out and let them know I was not blaming just worried during previous encounters. The owner apologized for being rude, suggested I plug or filter the intake pipe, chuckles and laughter all around. The call ended friendly no mention of charges. A few days later out of the blue an invoice for $80 for "service" calls for those 2 visits shows up without service dates. All events occurred within 2 weeks of install. To add the frosting to the cake ... just got the rebate check (the one that was supposed to be $310 in February) for $110 in March. The explanation was that they forgot it was a propane gas furnace and only entitled to the lesser amount. I don't know that he did anything "wrong" with the installation. One expects sometimes a loose connection or something whacky happening when connecting new furnaces to older duct work and that a courtesy call may be in order. We might even be able to understand a small fee for the second visit but come on. Be forewarned with A Perfect Temp H&C you just shouldn't expect professionalism, timely visits, or courtesy service after an install of any kind. I'll not call them for anything again. Maytag will need to send someone else if anything goes wrong.

Response from A PERFECT TEMP HEATING AND COOLING
We apologize for your bad experience that you feel you had. Some things to consider are: It had been 2 months prior to installation from the original quote. House plans can sometimes co-inside with one another since we are in and out of many homes. Also you had indicated you wanted a bigger furnace for a future addition. We had to remeasure to confirm sizing and refresh our material list that was done 2 months prior. As with any skilled trades, prior appointments/service calls can run longer than expected. We always call when we know we won't be arriving at scheduled time. Both service calls, complaint was NOT evident/seen by our service techs at time of arrival. We expect to get paid for our services especially when the problem(s) was not related to our work/installation. Invoice was dated for last service call date. We went above and beyond for this customer. Additional work had to be done from original quote due to a radon system being installed which means no use of crock in the basement for draining water. Had to purchase a pump to drain water heater up and out the basement window as well as add a condensate pump to the furnace installation. Only the cost of supplies was charged. If we would have charged the going rate for these additions, the closing date on the house would have been put off due to the seller not wanting to pay for additional costs. After installation we advised customer she was eligible for a consumers energy rebate that she was not expecting/had no idea of. Office staff submitted rebate as a gas customer and did not realize their error until customer called us to inquire about amount. Office staff apologized for miss informing her of the amount of the rebate. Again, we are very sorry to hear you had such a bad experience and will be sure to review your comments with the rest of the staff in an effort to improve the experiences for our future customers.
