 + -1 moreThey were a little slow to get the job done. There was a seperate meter that was suppose to be put in prior to the installation by another company. I don't know if the communication was lacking on the other company putting in the meter or this company responded back to them. They brought the wrong thermostat and had to leave and come back to complete the job. The quality of the work was good.
Description of Work: Matheson Heating and Air Conditioning installed an air conditioner and a heat pump in my daughter's house.

Matheson installed this furnace in 1997 and has provided excellent service since then. The technicians even wear red booties while in your house.

Description of Work: I called Matheson Heating at 8:00 yesterday morning and told them that my air conditioner would not work and that I needed service asap because I have my elderly parents living with me and the house was 81 degrees. Michael told me that he could have someone at my house by 1:00. They were there at 12:50... and within an hour he fixed the problem and the a/c was back up and running. The first time I had Matheson Heating out to my house was in January of 2007. My furnace would not stay lit all of the time. It had a mind of it's own.... They came out and told me that my furnace needed some expensive repairs, approximately $700, I asked the technician if the furnace was worth putting that kind of money into or if I would be better off installing a new one. He said I could probably get by for another year or so but he would do whatever I wanted. He called back to the shop and got me a price on a new Carrier Infinity furnace. I decided that I would rather install a new furnace with a warranty than put money into the old one. The NEW furnace was installed the next day... I wasn't sure how good of a price I received until I called a few other Carrier dealers the next week and compared prices on the same unit. I got a GREAT price compared to the other dealers I called. I would definetly reccommend Matheson Heating to all of my friends and family.

 + -1 moreMatheson's technician looked at the furnace and told me I needed a new furnace because my "heat exchanger" was cracked!! The furnace is 12 years old. The service technician said that instead of replacing the motor, that I need to replace the entire furnace. He said he is supposed to shut off the furnace completely by law and that I am not supposed to turn it back on until it is replaced!!! But he said he would "do me a favor" and leave the furnace on since it was cold outside. I told him I would think about which furnace I wanted to buy and call him back. When he left I called another company and they came out and checked out the furnace and said there was nothing wrong with the heat exchanger and then they replaced the motor and it has worked just fine. I also had a third company come out and inspect the heat exchanger and do a carbon monoxide test and they also said the heat exchanger was fine. This technician also said that if the heat exchanger goes bad, that it can be replaced under warranty for about $500. So, I can only assume that Matheson's technician lied to me in order to sell me a new furnace for thousands of dollars rather than just replace the motor for a few hunderd dollars.
Description of Work: My Furnace Motor was making a great deal of noise when it started up, so I called Matheson to come look at it. They came out to check the furnace.

 + -1 moreI had a number of contractors provide me with quotes, and Matheson was the most expensive. Nevertheless, Jack did the most comprehensive job generating the quote, measuring the exterior of the house and doing a quick load calculation on the first visit. Due to a good experience with them in the past, I was ready to proceed with the order. During the process my plans changed from an entire HVAC to heat pump alone. Therefore I asked Jack to send me a new proposal with just the heat pump, and he did. The price was the same, but he had substituted the 15-SEER unit with a 13-SEER unit . When I asked about this, he explained that the 15-SEER unit was about $1,000 more; he did not have the exact price available at the time of the original proposal. Furthermore, he said that had I acted on the original quote he would have installed the 13-SEER unit even though the proposal noted a 15-SEER unit. Sounded like a bait-and-switch to me, so I went with another company. I'm glad I caught this before signing on the dotted line.

 + -1 moreThey removed my old water heater and took it away when they were done with the job. They installed my new water heater in the cellar of my 140 year old home. They were on-time, polite, professional and cleaned up after the installation. They showed me how to use the water heater after the install. In addition to this service, in the past I have also used them to service my furnace and air conditioner. They also performed a mechanical inspection for me when I bought my home. I have been pleased with all services. I would use them again and recommend the company to other people.
Description of Work: I purchased a power vent gas water heater from Matheson. They also installed it for me at my home in Nov 2008.

 + -1 moreThey arrived relatively on time (given that their GPS got them mildly lost, at which point they called me for directions) and asked me to move my car so that it did not accidentally get scratched by their hoses and equipment, drop clothed my front hallway, and took their shoes off while in the house and were very good about keeping one particular bedroom door closed while they worked so that my cats didn't escape outside. When I called to make the initial appointment, the woman who took my call told me about a $50 coupon they had before I could ask if there were any specials or deals going on. After calling half a dozen places, this company did the most work for the least money, and their technicians were certified by the appropriate national professional organization, so they're not a fly by night company.
Description of Work: Vacuumed out air ducts in a 1,700 sq. ft. house, cleaned furnace and hot water heater.

They told us that both were working fine though for another few hours, and they didn't tell us that we needed to spend the money and buy new ones. We were pleased with their honesty.

 + -1 moreThey never responded back. I haven't pursued it any further yet (3-16-2008 email). After their response to my Angie's List review, I did re-send the same email request for information regarding the secondary heat exchanger on 4-14-2008. I received a response back on 4-15-2008.
Description of Work: I received a letter regarding possible defects in the secondary heat exchanger on our Carrier furnace. I sent an email to follow up on this issue.

 + -1 moreWe have been very satisfied with the service and the professionalism of this contractor. They always arrive on time and clean up well when they are finished. The prices seem to be reasonable and I have no trouble recommending them to others.
Description of Work: We now have a maintenance contract with this contractor which covers our heating and air conditioning units, twice a year as part of a yearly agreement. They came out, changed the filter, checked the units to make sure they worked properly, and would also replace small parts for that price.

They are a highly professional and dedicated group to use and I am very glad I found them on Angie s list. I would recommend them to anyone and will continue to use them for all my heating and air conditioning needs.
Description of Work: This company installed an air conditioning unit in our attic which covered our entire home, a little over 2500 square feet. This was a Unico System which had to be installed in the attic because we have baseboard heat with no duct system. They installed the entire duct system in the attic with air vent in the ceiling and that is why it is more expensive than an typical A/C unit with forced warm air furnaces. They did this in 3 days, and the work was done in our attic in 100 degree heat.

 + -1 moreTrevor came to house a few days before the above work was performed to check the lack of cold a/c. After diagnostics he found the compressor to be faulty & suggested I have ducts cleaned because he thought they may be clogged as I complained of backdrafts from some of the pipes. Couple of days later Jerrod cleaned the ducts and Dennis took care of the compressor. After further investigation by the above and 'Buck', it was learned that the ducts had not been connected during house construction. The company will take care of this problem at a later date. Everyone I spoke with is very nice, considerate & they know their jobs. When I have called the office Mike has been very responsive to my concerns. When he says he'll keep you updated he does. The company was recommended by a coworker as well as me finding them on Angie's List. They will be my permanent source for furnace a/c repairs. It's good to know they're a company that can be trusted.

 + -1 moreIt went very well. We are very happy with the work. Our technician, Trevor, even went the extra mile by patching up the hole that the old humidifier left behind. The pricing seems decent; they were very up front with the pricing, which was also quoted with installation included. We will probably use them in the future for a duct cleaning as well as any other heating or cooling needs we may have.
Description of Work: Work took place over 2 visits. Technician came out initially to determine why the heater wasn't working. He found a broken part due to previous homeowners' lack of care. A week later he called with an estimate for the part and to ask for authorization to order it. We then had him come back out and install the part, as well as a new humidifier.

 + -1 moreThey came as scheduled. Used a large truck mounted system. Did each register and to a lesser extent each return. Cut openings to cold and hot air duct at furnace and also in the plenum although it was already open where filter goes in. It was an OK cleaning but not the best I've seen. Technicians were pretty young and inexperienced. Also, pretty expensive. They are generally a good company but not particularly on this service.
