This is the THIRD or FOURTH time I use James Low for Heating & A/C Services over the past several years, and each time I'm SUPER happy I did. This guy is AWESOME. Really. For starters, I first heard about Mr. Low from a local mutual friend. He came HIGHLY recommended, after the top rated Heating & A/C guys kept pushing me to replace my entire A/C system for $14K. Their focus wasn't on repair; it was on a high-dollar ticket. And I simply wanted the system diagnosed and repaired. Every time I've called Mr. Low, he's not only called me back, but he's come to my house the SAME day or the VERY NEXT DAY. No extra charges, no empty promises, etc. He just shows up and does his thing. And there's no "same say service surcharge" that many of the other guys charge. And that's not to say he doesn't have a lot of customers; this guys works sunrise to sunset, practically EVERY day. If you are fortunate enough to use him for your services, you'll notice he's always getting calls for service requests, cuz everyone who's dealt with him KNOWS he's super honest, super customer service oriented, and knows EXACTLY what he's doing. So Mr. Low came the very next morning. During this inspection, Mr. Low noted that the info on the original A/C housing didn't match up with the info/brand/model # of the outside unit and the coil. I informed him that I had replaced them a few years back, and he took it upon himself to make sure the outside unit & coil matched. Based on that, Mr. Low informed me that he currently had 3/4 hp with him, that he'd like to install to get my A/C up and running, but it wasn't the correct/optimal unit, as mine called for a 1 hp motor, which he'd have to order directly from the manufacturer. Being that it would take a few days, he offered to install the 3/4 hp motor, order the correct one from the manufacturer to get me up & running (and not dying from the heat in the house), and once the correct 1 hp motor arrived, he'd come BACK out and swap in the correct motor, AT NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE. WOW. People like THIS...you just can't find every day. More importantly, Mr. Low quickly diagnosed that the blower motor & capacitor were shorted because of water damage, which was the result of a clogged drainage pipe. After replacing them, he unclogged the pipe, tested the system, found it was low on freon, recharged it, and BOOM...we were in business. Nice, cold, crisp air :) Then he continued to inspect the rest of the unit. Then the outside unit. Then the upstairs unit. I didn't have to ask him to. I didn't have to prompt him to. He just did. Cuz in his own words, he wanted to make sure everything was working, and I don't have any other problems. YOU CAN'T BUY THAT KIND OF WORK ETHIC. He charged just over $200 for the motor, $150 in labor for EVERYTHING, and $170 for the freon, which was quite low. $560 in all. AND, he put dye in the system with the freon, in case it continues to leak, we'll be good to go the next time to diagnose where the leak's coming from, and address the leak immediately. Again...I'm IMPRESSED. On the FLIPSIDE, the top rated guys on here had already come out to look at my A/C, and again, after trying to sell me into a $14,000 complete A/C unit replacement, finally told me I need to replace the motor & capacitor, after I insisted that I was simply trying to repair the existing unit (which is less than 7 years old, mind you). They made no mention of the reason the motor went bad (it was less than 2 years old), and wouldn't look at anything else (not the outside unit, not the upstairs unit), etc. AND, I had to wait several days for a motor to come from the manufacturer. Estimated price? $850 big ones. NOT including any freon I'd need. And I know for FACT that the motors run $180 - $220, and the capacitors run around $35 - $40 (having replaced them twice now). Bottom line: Can you go with one of the "big" Heating A/C companies? Sure. But be prepared to be upsold, upcharged, and left in limbo until the parts are here and they can "fit you in." OR, you can call Mr. Low. And get seen within 24 hrs, and rest assured that not only will he only do what you need, but he'll go above & beyond what's necessary to make sure it gets done RIGHT. The FIRST time around. And why I asked him why he went through all this trouble (after I happily paid him whatever he requested), he simply told me, "So I can sleep at night." If I have any other Heating A/C problems, I know who I'm calling. And I STRONGLY suggest you do the same. You'll be glad you did :)
