 + -1 moreIt was another great experience with this firm. As always, they clearly explain what needs to be done but left the decision up to me. The works completed and my vehicle was ready when promised. Their prices were extremely fair and the staff was friendly, courteous and extremely competent.
Description of Work: I took my 2008 Toyota RAV4 to Preferred Automotive for it's 60K mile service. They did all the require fluid changes and inspections.

We then used them before a long road trip and had the car's fluids flushed/changed, costing $800. Update: There was a misunderstanding, which has now been resolved, and we plan to use them in the future.

 + -1 more4 Service was completed 1/2 hour sooner than expected and in addition to the major services, the mechanic, who was concerned about corrosion starting to build up around my battery, cleaned the connections and box free of charge. The people there go out of their way to explain the service, estimate how much time they'll need, and make sure you have a complete estimate of the cost before proceeding with any work. I've always been treated in a friendly and courteous manner. Couldn't expect a better experience at any other garage.
Description of Work: I've used Preferred auto twice now and have been entirely satisfied with their service on both occasions. The local dealership wanted to charge me $500 dollars to redo the front brakes on my 4 year old car. Decided to get a second opinion at Preferred and was told I could get approx. 10,000 more miles on the brakes before replacing. After driving the additional mileage without any incident, returned to Preferred to have the front brakes done at a cost of $300. Also had them replace a leaking water pump and belt for $580 which seemed a little expensive but wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt since they were so honest about the condition of my brakes.

Overall, these guys are the real deal. Hardworking, honest, fair and most of all friendly to all who enter their place of business.
Description of Work: Prefered Automotive has been repairing my vehicles since before they even opened the shop. I have known the guys there since we were all in high school together in the 70s and Fred Harvey since we were Boy Scouts together. Gary and Mike run a tight shop, hire the right guys and are some of the most dedicated, honest people in the business. Recently I brought my van there ( I own many vehicles ) and they flat out told me to dump the car and stop throwing good money after bad. I previously took it to a dealer who wanted to charge me $8000 to repair it without regard for the true value of the vehicle. In the past I have had the following work done: Brakes Front end alignments Shocks Engine repair Electrical work Emissions work Oil and lube changes Transmission work Each time I was treated to coffee and donuts and had a wonderful experience chatting with other satisfied clients waiting in the front office.

 + -1 morePreferred Automotive was recommended to me by coworkers several years ago, and I have been very pleased with all service I have received there since then. I've used them for routine maintenance, including 60Kservice in February. The cost was reasonable and included replacement of the battery. Gary, Mike, and Sean are always pleasant and take the time to explain needed repairs. They will call or e-mail a quote prior to doing work so there are no surprises. Also, in my experience, they do not do unnecessary work. (I know; I once asked why they were not doing an item listed on the 60K maintenance schedule, and they reminded me that they had already done it six months prior.) Several times I have called up early in the morning to have something looked at that same day, and they've always fit me in somehow.

 + 1 moreIt was a good experience. I would go back again. They promptly waited on me when I entered and were very helpful in providing information and estimates of repair work. My car stayed overnight but it wasn't that big of a deal. It is best to make an appointment that way you know your car will be worked on that day unless you ask them if they can give your car back by the evening. I called the dealer to compare prices and prices here were comparable or alittle less expensive. If my car breaks down I now have a good mechanic or auto repair shop to take the car to. They do good work.
Description of Work: They put a new tire on, replaced my battery, tuneup car, aligned car, changed belt(s), other car repairs I don't remember.

 + 0 moreThey're very accommodating and pleasant and personable. They're very concerned with doing a good job and the service is excellent. They're probably not the cheapest place to get the work done, but I'm not arguing that their prices are unfair because I don't know enough about it to know.
Description of Work: I had them service my car. They did everything from replacing my tires to doing some long-delayed service that should have been done last year. Basically, they did everything that should have been done at the 50,000 mile point.

 + -1 moreI had been to the dealership to diagnose the issue with my car's check engine light, and they told me that it needed to have over $1200 in repairs to replace the oxygen sensors. Having just been stuck with another huge bill from that dealership, I decided to check Angie's List to see if I could find a local service shop for my car. I came across Preferred Automotive and decided to give them a call. They were able to get my car in right away and I took it to them. The location is in an industrial area, and tucked away in the back, but they gave me very good directions. I left it with them for an estimate and the owner called and discussed a strategy with me to repair the vehicle. They too saw the need to replace the oxygen sensors, but took a different approach. Their were 4 of them to replace and they started by only replacing two. While this didn't fix the problem, they were able to replace just one more and solved the issue, all for about half of what the dealership quoted me.The work was done on time, the car was cared for, and the owner was honest and caring. He even told me that one of the reasons that the repairs were a little more expensive was that this particular car had California emissions on it, which I had no idea. I had purchased it used. Anyway, I highly recommend Preferred and plan on taking my other vehicles to them for repair. They have created an atmosphere of trust, quick service and reasonable pricing that's hard to find these days.

Description of Work: major car repair (shocks, alignment, muffler clamp, transmission work and forgot the rest)- would go to them again. They didn't do work the same day I brought car in as I had been told - but was done the next day by time I said I definitely needed car. The price they charged was fair. A few were below and a few were above the dealer prices but the bottom total was below the dealer price. With the dealer I would have my car back same day but a little higher overall price and with Preferred Automotive my car stayed overnight but total cost was lower by about $100. It wasn't raining those days and I was able to walk (about 1.5 miles one way) or catch a ride to and from home to work. It gave me time to think, clear my head and get in a little walking exercise since I was under alot of pressure at that time. (I have a bad leg and hand so distance and weather matter a great deal to me.) I would let them repair my car again but have them write on the bill when I needed my car back and make sure there is a clear understanding between us as to when the car was needed back. (In all fairness I think the person I talked with over the phone before I brought the car in wasn't the person who repaired the car, because it needed some different kinds of major repair work, so the timeframe was not communicated or passed along.) As a customer please tell a repair shop when car is definitely needed. Preferred Automotive is a very good car repair shop. Folks including repair people are nice and easy to talk with. They are professional but at the same time laid back (not formal - I don't like formal.) They explain repairs, they will do and what has been done to your car, in terms everyday people can understand if you tell them you have no idea what they just said. I simply like people willing to make sure I understand. Preferred Automotive was recommended to me by another person I work with. I know each time a person can have a different experience - this time I'll give them an "A" and "big smile". :) My 11 year old car was rattling and seriously bouncing up and down when I brought it in. When I drove it away it felt like a new car. It hasn't broken down yet. Use them and tell what you think.

I was called by noon the day of my appointment and told that the car was road tested, all the hoses were tested and it was checked by 2 mechanics and they could not find any thing wrong. Therefore, I picked up my car and went home. They were very honest & thorough. I was told that if the problem reoccurred, i should bring the car back. So far so good, It has been almost a week. They did not charge me for checking out the car.
Description of Work: I took my car in because I was smelling gas fumes. Check out car for leaks and fumes.

 + -1 morePreferred Automotive was able to service my car the day I took it in without a scheduled appt. I was able to leave it there for the day and walk a block to my work building, which was important to me. I felt as though I could trust Preffered Automotive with my car and will likely return to them for car service in the future. There was a slight mix-up when I went to pick-up my car. The front desk person said that the oil change was done but the mechanic doing the job said the front desk person did not tell him to do the oil change. So I had to return an hour later to pick-up my car while the oil was changed. Not a big deal fo rme, but it did show a little communication issue between the front desk person and the mechanic in the back of the garage. But overall a positive experience and I appreciate it.
