Overall, we couldn't be happier with High Performance Home LLC! We worked with the owner, Larry, during the planning and contracting phase. He was always available for questions and clarifications. We knew exactly what to expect on the date of the work. Larry is a true professional and was extremely easy to work with. When we asked for clarifications on the contract, he had a revised report to us in 24 hours. On the day of the work, two of his team members spent about half day doing the work. Specifics of our job included replacing our attic access hatch, blowing R38 fiberglass insulation over existing insulation in our large attic, air sealing interior walls, rim joists, cantilievers, kneewalls, garage, weather stripping entry doors, exterior kitchen wall (where we were having huge thermal losses), and extended and improved some of our attic ventilation. The work was all done efficiently and effectively. They left the house immaculate. We haven't seen our bills over time but can already tell that the house is better insulated as several of our "cold" rooms are no longer frigid! We chose this company based on its location, the strength of the Angie's lists reviews (which are deservedly stellar!), and great first, second and final impressions working with Larry and his team. They all take great pride in customer service and doing right by the customer. We would strongly recommend HPH to any one looking for a small local company that is experienced in insulation and weatherproofing and stands by its great reputation by doing what's right by their customers at a reasonable price.

Visit was fine. Thorough and professional. Report was good. A couple of minor points which I disagreed with, but overall was fine. I tried twice to contact them to have them do some follow-on work and received no reply. No further contact.

I contacted HPH for an energy audit and for an estimate on the insulation of part of my bedroom that is built over a porch and gets very cold. After the audit they told me that it would have been more cost effective to improve the attic insulation. They were right. The difference is substantial, we now actually hang out in the master bedroom, it was just unthinkable before. They also submitted all the paperwork for the HPwES rebate offered by BGE so we just got a $2000 check that made the deal a lot better. I cannot say if they are the cheapest since I did not ask for any other bid, but they sure are good at what they do. They were always ready to answer any question and impeccably professional. I definitely recommend them.

Larry and his son showed up right on time to perform the audit. They took me through every room of the house and explained everything in detail to me. Whole process took about an hour and a half. I received my report and estimate within 3-4 days with great information and tons of pictures.

Larry and his son Mike came out to the house to perform an energy audit. The audit was $400 but BG&E rebates $300 so we only paid $100. Both Larry and Mike were very friendly, explained everything, and completed the audit in a timely manner. A few days later they sent a full report with recommendations on how to improve the home's efficiency in a cost efficient manner. The report included computer modeled data and specifically advised against costly improvements that would not be cost-effective. The report also included information on BG&E rebates that would be available. The estimate was that annual savings would pay back the cost of work less the rebates in 4-5 years as well as increase comfort in the colder months. We agreed to have them come out and make the recommended improvements. Mike and several workers showed up as scheduled, completed all work with minimal interruption, including installation of proper bathroom fan venting, sealing of rim joists, sealing of top plates, and increased blown-in attic insulation. Despite working on a day that was absolutely pouring rain, the crew was clean, friendly, and efficient. Following the work, Larry completed and submitted the requisite documentation to BG&E for the rebate on our behalf and told us to expect it in 6-8 weeks. We have already noticed a marked change in the comfort level of the home following sub-freezing temperatures the week after the work. We're waiting to compare utility bills.

My experience with this company was excellent. We decided to take all their post-audit recommendations, which included installing blown fiberglass insulation into both of our attics (one over our garage and one over our upstairs bedrooms), creating a dam around the hvac upstairs and a path to the unit, installing baffles along vented soffits to maintain passive attic ventilation, installing an insulated attic tent at one of our attic access pull down stairs, air sealing at top plates on interior walls from attic side and around ceiling mounted devices (recessed lights, ceiling fans) from the attic side, and installing mat covers over recessed lights and foam sealing them to the attic floor. As an additional benefit, the mat covers will keep those pesky stink bugs from getting into the house via the attic -awesome! Mike and his crew also air sealed bypasses at the vertical attic knee wall, air sealed around the exterior door in our family room and solved a huge problem for us, by air sealing the exterior wall by our cooktop vent. In addition, they replaced all of the flex duct from our upstairs hvac to each bedroom and bathroom (which unbeknownst to us was deteriorating and had actually been recalled) with new insulated flex duct. They also extended the venting of two bathroom fans to the outside at a roof mounted vent hood, which they installed. All of that work was done in just one day and it resulted in a significant improvement in energy loss, as evidenced by the post installation test out results. When they left my house, the place was spotless. This is a company you can trust. They are personable, professional, efficient and go the extra mile to make sure everything is done correctly. Here's the kicker...they also complete and submit all of the paperwork you need to obtain a rebate from BG&E under their Home Performance with Energy Star program, which provide rebates up to $3800. In our case, we will receive a substantial rebate. Based on the calculations we received as part of the energy audit, we will recoup our portion of the bill (after the rebate) in a few years which is a great deal, since we plan to stay in this house for many years to come.

After reading the many favorable reports about this company on Angieslist, I called them and spoke to Larry Tennant, the owner. Larry asked some questions about my heating and cooling costs and the size and age of my house, then explained the BGE energy audit program. He also described how he could use airflow measurement and thermal imaging to identify areas of my house that could benefit from more insulation,and/or better air sealing or ventilation, or other energy-saving measures. I made an appointment to have the energy audit done. On the day of the appointment, Larry and his son Mike arrived on time and did a very thorough energy audit. A few days later, they produced a written report with specific recommendations for improvements. For each recommendation, the costs and estimated payback period were clearly stated. Larry took the time to respond to all my questions about the kind of work to be done, its cost, and how long it would take to complete. The actual work took just over four days to complete.The workers notified us in advance of when they would be arriving, usually around 8 AM or a little later, then showed up when they said they would. Larry and/or Mike supervised all aspects of the work. Larry, Mike, and their employees were very careful to do the work properly and not to damage my house in the process. No construction debris was left lying around, and all workers were very polite and easy to deal with. Larry completed the BGE rebate paperwork for me, which was a real convenience. Overall, I have had nothing but positive experiences with this company. The adjectives that best describe Larry, Mike,and their workers are "capable", "conscientious", and "courteous". If other work is needed, I would not hesitate to use this company again.

They were very professional, on time, and did what they said they would do, when they said they would do it.

In early January, one of the pipes in the bathroom above our garage froze and burst during the extremely cold spell. Despite the fact that the pipe was wrapped with insulation, there was too much cold air flowing around it to protect it from freezing. Half of our garage ceiling was completely soaked. The bedroom/office above the garage has always been colder in the winter and too warm in the summer, and the energy audit we had done a couple years ago confirmed that additional insulation was needed and the ends of the floor to the room needed to be sealed as cold air from the eaves (?) was flowing under the floor. Since the pipe burst and garage ceiling needed to be replaced, we decided that this was a good time to get all of the insulation work done. Plus we didn't want to go through the ordeal and expense of another burst pipe. One of the reasons I contacted High Performance Home (HPH) was that they were not only experts in energy efficiency improvements, but they were able to do the drywall work as well, unlike some other companies who would only do the insulation work. This saved us from having to hire a separate contractor and coordinating the timing of two jobs. Larry was able to come out within a few days to give us an estimate for the insurance company. He was patient with scheduling the job as we had to wait for the insurance adjustor to come out (apparently a LOT of pipes burst during the polar vortex, and the adjustors were scheduling a few weeks out). I didn't provide a rating for the price because the other company we contacted for a comparison estimate never got back to us with an actual estimate, so I have nothing to compare the HPH price to. The work went very well. The job was completed in about half a day. The crew did a good job of cleaning up the garage after they finished. The room above the garage felt warmer for the rest of the winter, and now that it's 90 degrees, it's not as warm as it was last summer. Most importantly, you can no longer feel any temperature differences in the floor or by touching the walls. To get the temperature in the room to the most ideal state, we were previously told that we will need to get some improvements to the HVAC system. I would definitely recommend High Performance Home.

They were awesome. They did a very professional job and fixed a major mistake made by an unlicensed contractor. They worked closely with our power company to help us get a rebate to offset part of the cost. There cost was in line with other contractors.

We had our energy audit done in March and found them to be very through and competent. They set up the blower and did the tests and explained all the numbers to us. They walked thru the house with the infrared camera showing us all the places that the house was leaking. The report itself was amazing. It showed where we would gain the most savings for the lowest cost and even gave recommended ratings for our next HVAC system so that we would know what to look for when the time comes. After we did our insulation improvements they came back and ran a second blower test documented the improvements. I have no complaints about working with this company and they have my highest recommendation.

High Performance Home performed a thorough energy audit. Mike and Larry were very professional and explained the inspection in great detail during their visit. They performed an interior, exterior, and attic inspection, along with blower door and thermal camera inspection which showed temperatures of heat loss. Shortly after the audit was performed, Larry provided me with a 17-page Energy Audit Report which included the inspection results, recommendations, thermal images, and photographs of places we have never seen. We scheduled the work to be completed immediately. The guys were very clean, respectful, and completed the work in a timely manner. Mike explained everything, answered all my questions, and was very knowledgeable. We noticed results that night! The rooms were warmer and our heat was not turning on or running constantly. We also noticed a MAJOR savings in our electric bill. High Performance Home did a fabulous job! I don’t think I could have had a better experience; no pushy sales tactics. I would highly recommend!!!

I purchased a Big Deal for an infrared thermal test and a home efficiency report. I later had them install blow-in insulation into my attic.

The service was great. I was very impressed with their response and the person that did the work.

This is a revised review. I was looking for the home energy audit to come in the mail was concerned because I didn't see it. Larry resent the energy audit report with thermal images to my work and home e-mail address. After looking at the report, i'm very happy. Larry was very detailed and complete when at the home, and provided a very comprehensive report with recommendations and a quote to solve energy loss issues. The quote seems very reasonable based on the amount of work to be performed. The places needing improvements have been very cold with the low temperatures we have been experiencing. The attic does need improved insulation, particularly around the pull-down stairs, but we have not done anything to follow up with the improvements, until I do some work to improve the roof supports in preparation for flooring in the attic after the insulation is improved.

It was an excellent experience. They were on time and went promptly to work. They answered all my questions and made sure that I was satisfied and understood what had been done. They also performed a blower door test to prove that their work had made a difference from the original test done during the energy assessment. Indeed the readings were improved and will be used to obtain the energy credit from BG&E. The crowning touch is that they did the paperwork necessary for said rebate. I have not received it but I am confident that it will eventually arrive.

I can't say enough good things about this business. They arrived a few minute early for each appointment, and completed the work in a wonderful manner. They did the energy audit as recommended by BGE, then gave me suggestions for improvement to my insulation (which I knew I needed and was the entire reason I called for their help!). They installed baffles in my attic, added blown-in insulation to bring my attic up to R49, insulated my basement rim joist, vented my bathroom fan, and a number of other energy-efficiency improvements. They did the work for what I felt was a very fair price, and completed the BGE rebate paperwork for me as well. I have already recommended them to several people, and I will not hesitate to send more business their way.

I never had the work done. Angie's List refunded my money.

Very pleasant, responsive, and did good work. Very important---he was willing to work with us to see what we really needed and what would be cost-effective rather than just giving us a "Cadillac" proposal as several other contractors had done.

Larry was very responsive - def. one of the better contractors we have worked with. Larry's son did the insulation install with his crew, and he is super nice. We had a good convo after the job was done. Crew is quiet, and def cleaned up behind them. **The best thing is I forgot to write the review after got the check back, and very recently I was contacted by BPI. They wanted to check the work done at my house, while they were around to see quite a few houses done throughout MD/VA. They came by and said everything was done perfectly. I am super happy, and feel like High Performance Home was a perfect pick for me. Thanks GUYS!

It went really well, they did a really great job with all the technology and everything they had. They gave me a great report and showed me everything.
