After suffering a water problem, and other estimates, Paul Davis's estimator, talked to me like an adult and did not try to sell me on expensive and unnecessary remediation and reconstruction.
Description of Work: Wow, an honest company! Imagine my relief in getting an honest appraisal of a problem that actually does not require huge and unecessary expenses. Charlie Speakes, the estimator who came to my home, is not only a professional, but a nice guy. Paul Davis did not make huge bucks on me, but they have my thanks. In an industry that smells like Sodom and Gomorrah it is good to find someone to trust.

Paul Davis Restoration came in with a very reasonable quote compared to four others we obtained. Their responsiveness, professionalism and quality of work was excellent. We would use them again if needed.

Thank you for taking time to leave this wonderful review for us. We truly appreciate the opportunity to work on your home and look forward to working with you again sometime!
They did an excellent job. I was very happy with their work. The only thing is that they don't tell you when they are coming during the day. It was also difficult to communicate with the crews because they don't speak English. They did do beautiful work however and I was very happy with it. Overall I was happy with the service. I would recommend them highly to anyone.
Description of Work: We have used them twice. We used them 20 years ago for flood damage remediation. We had more flood damage so we called them back out for more work. We had called a number of companies and they were the only ones that called me back. They put up new drywall, put in new floors and carpet, worked on the ceiling and painted.

I had some water damage to my basement from some exterior water backup due to several storms. My insurance company provided us the contact information of two companies to write up an estimate and do the repair work. We chose Paul Davis Restoration after reading the reviews here. My wife made the initial call to set up an appointment but had me follow up once I could confirm my availability to be at the house to let them in. When I called back the employee proceeded to get into a fight with me that he had already completed the work at my house. After calming him down and going back through my information he realized I had a similar, but different, last name to another customer. I wanted to give him a chance and scheduled a time for him to come out. His visit was very pleasant and he explained a lot about the damage but also how my insurance company would address it. He explained break points in the tiled flooring and offered suggestions on how to introduce a second ceramic tile since there was not enough excess tile available to use. He left by explaining that they wanted to do the repair work if we selected them and that they would manage a lot of the in between work with our insurance company for us. We also agreed that one of his contractors would get in touch to start the work once the insurance claim was approved. We waited two weeks after the claim check was deposited and called them after not hearing back. I placed two additional follow up calls, one to the employee who did the estimate and a second to the main Gaithersburg line. To date none of our calls have been returned. We are in the process of getting a second estimate now from another provider. The new complication is that we potentially may have to reopen our claim since our insurance company has already paid us for the first estimate, if the second estimate comes back over that cost. I wish I stopped working with them after that first phone call. I don't know if the rest of the DC/MD office is as unprofessional but we would not recommend anyone take the chance. Please look elsewhere for water damage and restoration needs.
Description of Work: Inspected water damage to a ceramic tile floor, dry wall and molding, potential mold as well as flooring damage to an adjoining carpeted room. They were scheduled to do all of the repair work as well though never completed.

Mr. G, I wish to extend my apology for the poor response from our estimator. There is no excuse for him to not return your call promptly. When I became aware of your situation, I asked the estimator to call you and offer to perform the repairs at no cost to you whatsoever. I was hoping we could make a positive out of a negative situation. I'm sorry that you did not accept our offer. Once again, we apologize for the lack of response to your phone calls. Problems with this contractor are too numerous to explain in story-format, so I will list the most salient problems: - One more than a couple occasions we would go weeks without seeing a contractor, the longest period of which was nearly a month and a half - The project managers failed to understand that communication does not equals work being performed, especially when communication is primarily excuses and delays. - Paul Davis seems too reactive (insurance-based) to adhere to a remodeling schedule. Every bit of rain caused weeks of delays. - We were led to believe we would have one specific person as our Project Manager, but once contract was assigned we were passed off/shared with another - Despite several requests, we could only get a Project Managers out to the site once with us to review the quality of work, and we were extremely flexible in trying to accomodate their schedules to get a site visit to address our concerns that kept building. We got one site visit for this purpose, and it lasted about 15 minutes. Over nearly 5 months of actual work, a Project Manager only visited the site about 4 times, and only once was over 30 minutes. (There were several visits prior to work starting, but this came to a screeching halt once work began) - There was a clear lack of communications both between the two Project Managers and the workers - I never saw so much as a foreman. I believe my husband saw him briefly once. Overall, it was just the workers and the rare Project Managers as mentioned above. - There were several missed appointments and cases of workers showing up unaware of what work was to be done and how it was to be executed per the contract and previous agreements with Project Managers - We were told the Project Managers had such a hard time overseeing the work and addressing our concerns in person because (paraphrasing) and quot;We don't have any other jobs in your area.and quot; - The Project Managers regularly made excuses saying they either had too much work to keep to the schedule or visit the site, or that and quot;the contract is waiting on Contractor Connection to reviewand quot; (we called Contractor Connection a couple times to verify and were told they had not received a revised contract from Paul Davis) - We felt taken advantage of as new homeowners. We told the Project Manager at the first meeting and several times that we were new to remodeling and would like explanations. In hindsight we feel the estimate was intentionally low-balled. (example, after several other estimates after the fact, the cost of repainting was regularly several thousand dollars for a standard quality job, not the several hundred as quoted - we ignorantly thought we were getting a good deal from a reputable company with skilled workers! We got these other estimates from Angie's List and quot;Aand quot; rated companies). - Several shortcuts were taken, and caught only by us since there was no site supervision (poor or lack of finishing, not extending subfloor all the way, trying to avoid installing new fascia and gutter as in contract, etc) - Despite several requests, we were never provided proof that the $200+ led test on the paint was performed -Failed to remove over $1,500 worth of work that was not performed until we sent several emails with measurements and photos, and until we threatened further mediation and litigation. - Project Managers constantly refused and avoided visiting the site in person to view quality of work or address our concerns, despite several requests and promises to even bring out the company VP - Regularly tried to avoid performing work in contract (repointing, installation of HVAC and water heater vents, gutters, etc) - Tried to charge us for worker travel to the site - Tried to charge us for workers traveling to store during work hours to get materials that they clearly should have known were required had any coordination taken place prior - Tried to charge us for workers who showed to site, but didn't perform any work (witnessed by myself, husband, and my father) - Project Manager concluded his dealings with us saying, and quot;Let me know what you want to pay so we can all wipe our hands clean of this. It is not worth anyone's time to dwell over a couple hundred dollars.and quot; Please keep in mind, that the work was estimated to last between 3-5 weeks, but lasted nearly 6 months. Project Managers tried to say this delay was mainly due to a spike in insurance claims (above) and our decision to cancel some work we had contracted them to perform. Specifically, when my husband witnessed (I was away on Army training) that they tried to paint over existing paint without any prepping or fixing the mortar first, we lost faith in their ability to do a quality paint job and asked that they cease painting and take that out of the contract. This resulted in over a month and a half delay, during which time they refused to do any work that was unaffected by the contract change. My husband or I was present for well over 90% of the work performed, and witnessed most of this first hand (he's night shift, I'm day shift). We felt that we were the actual project managers because, quite simply, there was no other oversight. Without the thorough estimate process of Contractor Connection and their mediation efforts, we would have been completely taken advantage of as new homeowners and likely would have had to seek litigation. We have since used three other contractors to strip the house of paint, repoint all bricks on the front, repaint, and install lights. Because of our other experiences with contractors doing similar work, we are comfortable being able to compare their performance with other more reputable companies. While I wish no ill to the project managers or company, I don't want others to have to enter into business with them blindly. Hopefully this will help inspire them to improve their communications, customer service, and quality so others don't have to suffer the nightmare we did.
Description of Work: Contacted Paul Davis through a service our bank offers, called Contractor Connection. They were one of 4 or so companies we had come out for an estimate, and came in at the lowest price. Felt comfortable using them because we knew we had our bank backing us on any problems. Learned the hard way to trust Angies List more, as we have since used several other contractors through Angie's List and always been impressed. Scope of work was pretty broad, and major items were: - Repaint entire house (row house downtown DC) - Repoint all sides of the house as necessary - Install a few outdoor lights - Install new gutter, fascia board, and downspout in the back - Rebuild subfloor in utility room - Coordinate HVAC provider to install new HVAC with utility room construction - Coordinate plumber to install new tankless water heater with utility room construction - Construct a partial exterior wall to utility room (was previously just plywood) - Vent new HVAC and water heater, tuckpointing where necessary to seal vents

In response to this post, we disagree with the elaborated details. We have contacted the members and they emailed back "We still do not believe PDR as a whole is a bad company, but our experiences should be heard..." This project was based on the premise that it was a "test" to see if we would be eligible for future, larger projects. A third party was involved, mainly to govern "price". We have opted out of this third party relationship for remodeling leads because of its restrictive nature. Our specialty for the past 25 years is Insurance Restoration and our office handled several hundred residential and commercial losses associated with the back to back summer storms of 2012. The experience, as expressed by these homeowners, was strained by our circumstances. However, regardless of how busy we were, we mutually discovered that we are not compatible with each other. Number one, we are hoping that members learn that you never chose a contractor on lowest price. Number two: Trying out a contractor on a smaller project is advisable, as in the case of this project-that way if it isn't working out between both parties it is easier to end the relationship. We appreciated the opportunity to work at this home and we had hoped it would have worked out better for all involved.

They did okay. They did not honor the Angie's List coupon because they said it was an emergency situation even though we scheduled the appointment. It was also drawn out because it was during the christmas holidays. It was not easy because they had to work closely with my insurance company. Overall, it turned out well. They did subcontract the panting work and did a nice job of coordinating this with the insurance company. They also did a good job of coordinating all the painting work with the sub contractor.

They have always been good. They are friendly, cordial, and profesisonal. They really make sure to inform you of what is going on or what to expect. I have no problems or concerns. I always know the job will be done right the first time.
Description of Work: They have repaired roof leaks for me.
They did a very good job. They were prompt and did what they said they would do. The workers were very good. They were attentive to detail and made sure to clean each item in my china cabinet. Jerry, who I dealt throughout the process, was very professional and responsive.
Description of Work: They did both smoke and soot restoration work for me. They cleaned all the walls. They subcontracted for the installation of the carpet, floor, and microwave. They also subcontracted the interior painting work for the first floor and the bathroom.
They are still working on the project. They are returning to redo some tile work that was not done correctly. They are polite, helpful, and they follow through. The project manager is with you the entire time and he handles all of the subcontracting work. I really like that you only have to deal with one person. They outstanding! Their mitigation department was excellent. They guarantee they will be there within two hours of calling. They were here immediately cleaning up everything with no complaints. They installed the humidifier. That department was amazing.
Description of Work: They redid my entire basement twice from flood damage. The night they finished the first time, my basement flooded again. They did the tile work, flooring, painting, and will return to install doors.

They were just unethical. I am planning to write to the BBB and my insurance company about them. I gave a horrible report to my insurance company. My insurance company mentioned two companies and one of them was Davis. I called them and they said they were not sure if they were going to do remediation. He told me he said they were having a meeting and he would call me back and he didn't call me back. I went to the hardware store and got a tarp because the roof was leaking and I was preparing to put it up myself if necessary. I got a call from Rodriguez and he asked me to take my tarp back because they were going to do it. He sent a crew and they got up on the roof. A part of the roof was damaged but they took pictures of the whole of the roof and places where I wasn't claiming. I was clear that I was not claiming that part. After they took all the pictures, it was a sunny day and I asked if they could put the tarp up. Rodriguez told me that they would put the tarp but the person who came out said it was sunny and it would be for a few days so he would back to put the tarp on. It rained and they didn't come back to put the tarp on. I called the emergency number and explained to the person at 2 in the morning. I had to get up and put water in the crawl space because it was a lot. He admitted that they should have put the tarp up. The next day I went up on the roof and put the tarp up myself. After that my insurance people showed up and they were very helpful and fair. I sent a complaint to the company but they sent me a letter talking about the rest of the roof. There was no problem with the rest of the roof and only with the asphalt portion of the roof. They were punctual to the original call but they just lied.

They did a fantastic job. They were great. My insurance company paid them directly so I don't know about their price. They came quickly on a Sunday evening. They had good equipment. They got lots of big fans that they put everywhere, they knew what to do. They were very competent. They pulled up the flooring, opened up the walls in the ceiling and got it all dried out very fast. I would refer them to others.
Description of Work: I have used the services of Paul Davis Restoration. We had a water leak and so we first called them and then we hired a contractor and he hired the other people. They came in to do the mitigation right after the leak.
We selected Paul Davis because our insurance company guarantees the work. Overall, we were happy with the work. Eddie, the superintendent for our job, was great about communicating to us - calling in advance to let us know when they'd be there, and was very responsive about calling us back if we'd left a message, and addressing any issues. They really did a quality job. Very reminiscent of and quot;holmes on homesand quot; on HGTV...So refreshing to see people take pride in their work... The only major negative is that it took a very long time to get all the work done. We first called them in the beginning of Feb, and the work wasn't totally done until Sept; we'd expected it would take maybe 2 months, 3 tops. They did work with us to prioritize the work - we wanted the laundry room to be the first completed so we wouldn't have to keep going to the laundromat, which we really appreciated. Some of the time delays were due the insurance company.
Description of Work: Our laundry room and master bath room had to be completely gutted and rebuilt due to water damage as well as some issues in the attic. This was a major job... not only did the inside need to be redone, but also 2x10s replaced, siding replaced. etc.

Long, Long list of problems...What possessions that never made it back from their storage facility were destroyed. Filthy...they ate their lunch while sitting on my bed..I found sandwich wrappers, crumbs, empty soda cups and bottles. Used every square of toilet paper, napkin and paper towel in the house. They packed all the extra I had in the closet. I had to go up to the store after coming home from work late. The on site supervisor lied, didn't show up for appointments, arrogant. Job took WEEKS longer than we estimated. Spent HOURS on the phone with my insurance company and the high ups at Paul Davis Two years later, I am still dealing with the mess. I did get some financial restitution, but in now way did it cover the cost of many irreplaceable possessions. All I can say is this was one of the worse experiences I have ever had with a company that claims to be professional. BEWARE

Paul Davis does a great job shmoozing. The two gentlemen that came out to give me an estimate spent more time telling me why I should use their company than listening to what I wanted to have done. Then they said they would get back to me in a couple of weeks. A month later I sent them and email regarding the missing estimate. They said the company had been very busy and they would get it to me by the next week but, and quot;By the way, would you like us to estimate a new roof for you?and quot; Needless to say, I never heard from them again and do not plan to contact them for any other projects. It seemed to me that my project was just too small for them. If they couldn't get me to spend 40K, then they didn't want to get involved. As I said, this was a renovation project, not restoration from storm damage. I cannot comment on how they would handle that type of work.

We are still waiting to hear back about the estimate. We have called many times. We spoke to a person in the office who relayed our message. After three weeks of no response we are going elsewhere.
Description of Work: No services performed. A representative from Paul Davis came to the house and looked at the damage. He stated that he would have an estimate for us in a week. We called and his message box was full. We contacted the office and they said they would relate our message. It has been almost three weeks and we have not heard back from them. I had damage (apparently I still do) to the side of my house from a branch falling and ripping the wires off the house in Jan 2011. My insurance company had Paul Davis do the estimate and I just went with them for the repairs mainly because my insurance company has a good reputation for referrals. My bad. It is Nov 2011 and the work is still not complete (electrical portion). I have no idea when or if it ever will be. To start back in the Spring when they actually finally scheduled work. It started off well. It took some time to finding siding to match what is on the house. Understandable. My biggest complaint (besides the fact they still haven't completed work to this date) is the lack of communications. Now, I could understand a few times if they called and for whatever reason I didn't get the call registered on my cell phone. It happens now and then, but almost all the times they stated they tried to contact me for updates I don't get any missed calls on my phone? I don't think so. Amazingly, the calls came through when I complained to my insurance company and the company's website. When we managed to make contact, I would be told things would be done the next day or so. If I was lucky, they showed up a week later and never at the time I was told. This wasn't a rare occasion, it was every single time. They might show up the day they stated but never at the time. Once, early one morning, my husband and I woke to someone drilling on the side of the house? I was never told anyone was coming or I wouldn't have still been in bed! Unfortunately, the electric company lied to me stating they had to repair certain work and then reneged so I asked Paul Davis to do this work as well (before the worst of my issues). That delayed the electrical work. Some of the work is still the responsibility of the electric company. The first work order they put in with the electrical company was and quot;lostand quot;. They have, I assume placed another work order. I was told last month that the electric work by the electric company would be done within 10 days. That was the last communication I have had with the company and the electric company, to the best of my knowledge, has not been here. They have to shut the electricity off to do the work so some form of communication would be made prior to I would hope. Update from March 4, 2012: This is a follow up report to my previous one which garnered a response from the executive office. He PROMISED to have things taken care of....feel free to check the date of that report. The damage to my house was in January 2011, it is now March 2012 and I still have a and quot;temporaryand quot; electrical set up and a broken roof shingle. I mentioned in the last report the lack of communication and that still stands. The email I received was the last I have heard from the company. So they have taken the money from my insurance company and run with it as far as I can tell. Heaven knows what they have done with it because I can assure you, it didn't go to the repair of my house. The next report is to the Better Business Bureau.

In response to this customer's complaint, we agree that the process and associated communication on this project was poor. Relying on a third party (Pepco) to perform their portion of the work has been extremely frustrating and regrettable. We were told on numerous occasions by Pepco that their portion of the work would be completed and it simply was not completed by them. In retrospect and for future clients we will add a better procedure explaining where our responsibilities start and stop and how to better deal with third parties out of our control. We do regret the experience suffered by this customer and we hope to find a better solution in the future.

We called them and they came out and they ripped out the walls and the rug and put in the dehumidifier machines and left it there for three days. They seemed to have done a good job. Nothing stands out about them. There is nothing negative about them. But they seemed to have done a good job. They came right away which I thought was very important. I called them on a Sunday and they came a few days later while other people I had called could not come for two or three days. Price wise I think they were fair. I will use them in the future.
Description of Work: Three or four weeks ago we had Paul Davis Restoration to do their first service against water damage. They charged us $1800 for the job.
They did a good job. They came up and did everything they were suppose to do. I just chose not to use them. They did a good job, I just decided to go a different route. I wanted to deal with contractors that did not have a direct relationship with the insurance company. They are efficient. This company seems to be very reliable. They are proficient. I didn't get them to do the work, but I feel like I know enough to say they are proficient.
Description of Work: I have a house that had a fire and I basically was trying to get contractors that weren't directly associated with the insurance company. This company did have a relationship with the insurance company. They gave me a quote for repairing the roof and all the renovations in the house. The estimate included installing drywall, heating and a/c unit, floors and some electrical work.

They were very nice to work with. I wish they would have spent a little more attention to detail. They also could have been a little more timely with their schedule.
Description of Work: They were sent to us by an insurance adjuster. We had a pipe burst that flooded our ceiling.

It was an insurance claim. They were fine and they dealt with the problem efficiently once they got to it. Their staff was very helpful in terms of letting us go through things before they were redelivered to our address, which was nice because we decided some of the stuff was a total loss. They worked very well with our insurance company. We didn't get any competitive bids on it. Once they got to the work they were pretty courteous about it.
Description of Work: We used Paul Davis Restoration because we had a little water disaster in our basement. They removed the wet contents, dried them out and stored them. They took down the damaged materials and basically did the demolition that was necessary.
