He is a one man show and he is very good at what he does. He is probably twice as fast as other plumbers I have used. He is worth the money because he is so efficient at what he does. I would definitely hire him again and I would recommend him as well.

This is the second time I had a similar situation with Mr. Bolton. (I wrote a review 4 years ago about the first time. We have used him in the interim and were fully pleased with his work.) We didn’t use him for this repair, but not for the usual reason of preferring someone else. Rather, when I described our problem he took the time to ask me several questions and was able to suggest a simple do-it-myself solution (just buying and installing a replacement part in one of our toilets) that eliminated any need for him to come out and do it himself. Once again I salute his integrity and deeply appreciate his genuinely helpful attitude. Although he may have missed out a fee this time, we remain devoted customers!
Description of Work: We began to hear the sound of water running at random times; I checked all fixtures and could not determine the cause, so I asked Mr. Bolton to come out.

Mr. Bolton did an outstanding job. First, he researched squat water heaters to see if there was a better alternative without success. He then located an acceptable heater and set about removing the old one. Of course he had to dismantle the cabinet surrounding the heater as well as remove the countertop. He did both with the utmost concern for not damaging anything during the demolition phase. Next, Mr. Bolton made safety as well as engineering changes to the hookup to prevent water leakage/damage. He changed all the fittings and actually reengineered the new heater to fit in the (very) tight space allocated. Once he was satisfied everything was correctly installed to his satisfaction, he carefully rebuilt the cabinet and reinstalled the countertop. Nothing was damaged. The new heater works great. Mr. Bolton has done other work for us and I most highly recommend him. He's a master plumber, a careful worker, and someone who keeps you apprised at every step. Reasonable cost, but most importantly, someone you can absolutely trust.
Description of Work: Mr. Bolton had the difficult job of removing and replacing our squat, fat water heater installed in a kitchen cabinet under a countertop. This water heater had been installed incorrectly by someone else years ago, and could have caused us serious damage both water wise and electrical.

We have used Gil for about 8 or 10 years for all our plumbing. He is a one-man shop but usually gets out within a day or so. I am sure he would get here fast if we required it. Last trip he replaced a bad pressure regulating valve. He is a nice guy, good plumber, and prices are very reasonable especially compared to the name brands who advertise all the time.

Gil handled several plumbing issues, from replacing a drain fitting for the laundry tub, to fixing leaking toilets, to checking for leaks behind a bathtub where we expected there might be leakage. He fixed all of the problems. Regarding suspected leaks behind the bathtub, he did not try to upsell; rather, he explained that it would cost a lot to fix a very minor leak that was doing no damage and, for various reasons, he would not recommend fixing it and instead would wait to fix it until we remodel the bathroom in the future. A few days after he left, we did have leakage from the drain fitting for the laundry tub. What most impressed us was when we called him about this, he came out on the weekend at no cost to ensure it was fixed properly. And weeks later, we can confidently say he fixed the problem. So we have nothing but positives to say about Gil. Problems happen, and when they do, a contractor should be judged on whether they stand by their work. Gil clearly does.

We wanted to resume our half-bath renovations this year after receiving our tax check. We took back the showerhead and explained our problem, and found a new replacement showerhead. I called Mr. Bolton to see if he could raise the copper piping as it was too short for everyone in our family. I also wanted to see if he could pull the toilet out so that I could remove some wallpaper. I tried to explain this to Mr. Bolton, and I asked him for a price. He gave me a price of 200 dollars, and to be fair, I may have misunderstood him. I understood that to be the price just for pulling the toilet, and expressed that I was shocked by the price. Instead of explaining himself, he just went off on me. He told me he was tired of my stupid questions and said he spent more time answering questions than able to do any work. I felt really hurt and surprised by his answer, and I thought others would want to know that he treated me this way. I worked with him for a year and provided him repeat business and that's how he reacted when I called to hire him again.
Description of Work: I used him last year to replace the fixtures in the master bath and put in a new tub in the hall bath. In the master bath, after he installed it, it started leaking at the shower arm and on the hand part of the shower. The shower was also aimed to hit the back of the wall of the shower instead of in the tub, and the pressure was very low. He came by and determined that the problem with the water pressure was that the water filter was blocking it. The filter was not allowing enough water to come through. I went and got a new filter, and the pressure issue was solved. Shortly after that is when the shower started leaking and the water kept hitting the back wall instead of the shower floor. We called Delta and told them that something was wrong with the showerhead that prevented it from aiming the right way. They sent us a new oscillating part that slightly improved the problem. We called GD Bolton out to fix the leaking issue. He did this for us, and ended up reversing the shower arm to help with the aiming issue. He did charge us for this work, which I was a bit upset by as he was mostly correcting his own problems within a year of performing the service. Since he wasn't responsible for the aiming issue and he helped with that, I decided it was worth paying for. Suddenly in March, we had only about ten minutes of hot water in the shower. He told me to go check the hot water in the kitchen to see if that also got cold within a few minutes. It did, so I assumed that he was correct: this was a hot water heater. I wanted to find something energy efficient, and I found a conservationist model that was several inches taller than the existing model. He was not interested in looking to see if he could install this hot water heater for us as I was planning on buying it myself. He wasn't even interested in coming out to look to see if the heater I had in mind would fit. So for that project, I used a different plumber who did a great job.

(member name removed) To be clear, the Delta shower head and shower arm that was installed was purchased by you. I do not warranty products purchased by the homeowner. Furthermore, I have in the past made SEVERAL trips to your home to attempt to remedy the problems you were having with your purchase and at least 2 of those trips were free of charge. In March you called about not getting hot water for more than 5 minutes in the bathroom. You specifically asked in an accusatory tone “Mr. Bolton what did you do to my hot water?”. I asked you to check to see if you were having the same problem in the kitchen. You verified that you were. I told you the water heater most likely had a burned out element. You told me you were going to do some research on the internet to see which type of water heater you might be interested in. I DID NOT get a call back from you and did not hear back from you again until a week ago. (member name removed), when you originally had the copper piping lowered (1 ½ years ago) it was for your son. You chose the height of the shower. Then when I heard from you last week you said that your son had gone through a growth spurt and the shower would now need to be raised in his bathroom. I told you there would be no problem to raise the pipe. You asked if I could also pull the toilet that you and her husband had been attempting to pull. I told you I could do that for $200.00. You sounded startled and asked if I was “being ridiculous” and you said you thought that price was “very high”. I did tell you that I had, in the past year and a half spent more time on the phone with you trying to help you fix the things you bought (which I do not warranty) and diagnosing things over the phone (i.e. the water heater and hand shower and water filter pressure issue) at no cost to you. You hung up before hearing that the $200 would have been for both the raising of the shower arm as well as pulling the toilet. (It is not clear to me why you did not call the other plumber that installed your water heater since you were very happy with him). (member name removed) I wish you the best of luck with your bathroom remodeling. I apologize for any misunderstanding. Gil Bolton

He did a very good job. The experience was very good. He explained everything he was doing and he fixed the problems that had existed for years. The bathtub stopper was not properly installed before he repaired that. The toilet wasn't raised at the proper level. He needed to put an extra sanitary ring because the floor had been re-tiled. The previous plumber replaced the toilet; he didn't place it high enough and put enough sanitary rings. It was a good price. He called back to make sure everything was running fine. There was one another thing that I had asked him about and he said I needed a specialist for that plumbing job. I followed his advice and got another plumber. He came exactly when he said he would. He explained everything and he showed me what he was doing.

We had two old faucets in our bathroom that you could no longer get parts for. I called Mr. Bolton and he replied reasonably fast, and suggested I buy the replacements at Home Depot (which would be cheaper than what he could provide), and that he would then replace them. We bought the replacements and he installed them several days later. He is very professional and does excellent work for a reasonable price.

It went very well. He was punctual for both appointments, even arriving a little early for one. Mr Bolton works with the customer very well and will discuss options for repair as needed. I appreciated his suggesting I contact the manufacturer for replacement parts under the lifetime warranty. This worked well and the company supplied the exact parts needed after his diagnosis. This is the first time these faucets have worked like new for nearly 6 years of trying to fix them. He diagnosed the mildew taste in the water, showed me the source, and replaced the hoses. Sometimes it's hard to make contact with him on his office phone, but he's quite reachable through the cell phone once the initial contact is made via the office.
Description of Work: This is the total of 2 related service calls. Replaced old shower head, replaced a tub diverter valve, diagnosed a off taste in bathroom sink water and replaced 6 supply hoses. He advised on ordering parts for a broken faucet from the manufacturer (for free) which I did. After the parts came in he returned to fix the broken faucet .

I called Bolton Plumbing, got a call back and described my problems. We scheduled a time and he showed up a few minutes early, that was fine. He knew what he was doing, and was able to repair, as opposed to replace, the laundry tub faucets. He installed the two shutoff valves for the upstairs shower quickly and neatly. And then repaired the shower control. Another plumber I had in earlier could not fix it, and maybe broke it. Mr. Bolton spent some time on it, explaining what the problem was and what he could do. Fortunately, he was able to repair the control. So, a lot of work in 1.5 hours; I am a satisfied customer. I will call Bolton the next time I need a plumber.

The owner, Gil Bolton, did the job. He called back quickly after I left a message at his voicemail and set up an appointment to come the afternoon of the next day. Called the morning of that day asking if he could come in the morning as another customer had cancelled, and I said OK. Took him 1.5 hours to complete, including waiting for the glue to cure before turning on the water supply and checking for any leak. $185 seems reasonable, but then I have no idea what other plumbers would charge.

Mr. Bolton arrived a little early, which was fine, assessed the problem quickly and set up and snaked out the drain. He also looked at my basement drain, which was clogged with mud (just at the top it turns out) and fixed that just by pouring copious amounts of water until the mud plug cleared. He also provided some advice on my upstairs bathroom shower head unit. He was extremely conscientious about the area in which he worked and thoroughly cleaned up after completion of the snaking.

Mr. Bolton was referred to me by a friend who said he did good work at reasonable prices. I called him to fix a toilet leaking from 1st floor into the basement. I thought it just needed the wax seal replaced. Upon removing the toilet, he found rusted bolts which allowed the toilet to rock off its original setting. He needed to replace PVC piping (from the basement side), re-seat the toilet, replace seals, all of which he did quickly and professionally. He asked if I wanted a new flush handle and added that upon my agreement.

It went very well. I called Mr. Bolton on a Sunday and told him the problem. He originally said he could make it on Tuesday, but on Monday morning he called to say that he'd rearranged his schedule and could be out in about 20 minutes. He arrived promptly and on time, cleaned out the debris from the clogged faucets and the washing machine in about an hour. He checked to see that all faucets were running freely. Mr. Bolton has been a steady and reliable performer for us for the last six years. I highly recommend him.
