After getting about 8 different estimates we went with Blue Dot because they gave us the best price for the unit we wanted (about 2000 less than other companies) and were extremely responsive and professional. unfortunately the installation in our very old home was a bit more complicated than anticipated. However all the technicians who came out (about 5 different one on 4 different days) were very responsive, knowledgeable and friendly. Overall a great experience.

Because we had a day off work, I scheduled four estimates for a new boiler and water heater for our 90 year old house on the same day, hoping the timing would work out. Chuck from Blue Dot was the earliest appointment, and he arrived right on time. He checked our existing equipment, measured all our radiators, discussed alternative configurations, and answered all our questions. He sent a detailed estimate via email the next day with several possibilities. He called to explain his recommendations, and was very professional in every regard. After receiving all our estimates, we decided to go with a different company.

Everything was outstanding. The estimator came on time, the work was performed two days later as promised. The equipment was exactly what we ordered. The workmen were prompt and courteous. When the state inspectors came out, they said the job was done perfectly, and added that they never have a problem when they inspect Blue Dot's work. We got a great deal financially as well. Blue Dot gave us a 10% discount because we were current customers with a maintenance contract, they got us 12 month, no interest financing, and we got a $1,000 instant rebate on the heat pump. The cost was almost $4,000 cheaper than a similar estimate we got from another local company.

It was a great experience. Chuck was very informative. He did not try to sell us more than we needed. They represent various brand and select the best for the specific home. He came on time, the installation went with no problems in the time that they stated. The left the house clean. They were fine. They fixed everything pretty quickly. The unit went out in the winter and they came out immediately to fix it. I also had an issue once that was my fault and they came and fixed it and explained how to avoid that problem again.

Wonderful visit for the estimate. Mr. Corbin couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. We sealed the deal in less than an hour. The entire installation was done within 10 days. The installation crew was prompt, professional and a delight to have in my home. The external compressor and the inside equipment is incredibly quiet and efficient. They were excellent, they were on time, they were very professional, they installed a emergency shut down device if water is leaking, they replaced it for no charge, and then a week or two later they had to come back out to fix a burnt out wire and again they replaced it for no charge.

I reviewed the information on Angie's List and based on the rankings and comments decided to link over to the Blue Dot website. There was an option to put in an on line request for a call/email response for an appointment for a quote. I filled out all of the required information and as of today 9/2/08 I have not received a call nor an email. I was very disappointed as I had used a similar setup on another contractor's website and received an email in less than 12 hours. If a company cannot meet the influx of email/on line requests then please do not offer this option. In the world today, many people use the internet services offered rather than a phone call, as it is often easier based on the person's schedule. However, if the company cannot respond promptly and effectively then it's a waste of time and effort for all involved. In the end it may have worked to my advantage as I got a prompt and reasonable response from another plumber and they will be doing the work.

It was okay there was a little problem with the communication. They could be a little more friendly, I had to kindly ask one of the workers to leave. He refused to leave until he got paid. I contacted his company and they cleared it up. He went out to his car and asked the company to have me pay him again.

The service man came and opened the furnace area to check the drain to make sure there wasn't any standing water. Adjusted the tubing leading to the outside unit. Wiped everything clean before he went to the outside air conditioner unit. Took off the top and noticed several screws were rusty and replaced them with new screws. Used a wire brush and the hose to clean off the metal screening which was very dirty. Checked the freon and wiped down the unit. I told him I used clorex once a month on the furnace tubing to keep the flow. (We have very hard well water). He said drano would also work. I was very please with his work and recommended him to my daughter. My daughter lives in a 3 story townhouse and gets a lot of summer sun. She has a problem keeping the 3rd floor cool. This is the first year she is able to have the 3rd floor cool enough to her satisfaction.
Description of Work: We like to have our air conditioner checked out before the summer season begins. I checked the manufactures website and they recommended Blue Dot of Maryland. The service man came and checked the furnace for drainage and the outside unit. He cleaned the drainage area, cleaned the outside air conditioner screen to remove all the leaves, dirt and checked the freon. He also wiped all areas he serviced clean. Showed me what to do to maintain the drainage tubes.

The service rep, Ben, was very good about describing what needed to be done. I only felt that the quick solution to the problems should not have cost this much. He did give me information that would make it easier for us to repair this type of problem on our own in the future.
Description of Work: A leaking garbage disposal unit simply needed to be tighter and a leak in an exterior wall pipe needed a shark bite fitting applied.

I was told that the repairman would be at my house between 12 and 5. I was able to get it down to between 1 and 5 due to a doctor's appointment. I rushed home and sat around all day only to have them arrive at 5:30. The worker came out and started working on the units. He found one to be completely empty of Freon and the other low on Freon. He filled both of them up and then came in to tell us that the units both probably have a leak and need to be leak tested, something they would have to come back to do. So $800 later ($40/gal) of Freon we needed someone to come back and test for leaks. Now I do not know a whole lot about air conditioners but my thinking is that if it's empty and you're fairly sure it's due to a leak, why would you fill it with $800 of Freon?? Anyways, I called the next day (Wednesday) to set up an appointment to leak test as soon as possible to prevent more from leaking out. I was told that each leak test takes 4 hours so he would need to find someone for 8 hours of work since we have 2. I asked him, well couldn't they both be tested at the same time? He came back and said yes then it would be a 6 hour process and nobody could come out until the next Monday between 9 and 12 (smaller window, yay!) So I took the appointment and the repairman arrived at 9:30. He was finished at noon. (???) So for 2 and a half hours the bill was about $318. He reported that the first floor unit could have a leak but if it did he couldn't find it. (Wasn't that what we paid $318 for him to come out and figure out???) And the 2nd floor unit needed a new evaporator coil and he would have to order and come back to install it. So I paid the bill and he went on his way. In looking at the bill, he had written that the estimate for the coil and installation was going to be over $1700! Now again, I know little to nothing about a/c units but that seemed excessive. I called and had them cancel ordering the part (after being on hold incessantly twice, I finally reached someone at Blue Dot). The reason that I was upset was that he did not even mention this estimate before he left. He wrote it on the paper for me to see later. I would have loved to discuss the option of just buying a new unit with him and having him answer questions. Now, to give you some background. My brother was here for the first service call (as I would have asked about the pricing) and I was here for the second service call. I am only 24 years old and this is the first time I have dealt with a/c repair. I was naive in thinking that someone would come out and do a good quality job and explain everything to you in your best interest. Oh well, lesson learned!
Description of Work: The air conditioning in our house did not seem to be cooling the house properly so we called Blue Dot to have someone come out and check our air conditioning units. They were both filled with Freon and a new evaporator coil is needed.

UPON THE SECOND VISIT, WE FOUND AND INFORMED THE CUSTOMER THAT THE 2ND FLOOR UNIT WAS IN NEED OF A NEW COIL, AS THE EXISTING ONE WAS LEAKING REFRIGERANT. WE DO HOWEVER, FEEL OUR REPRESENTATIVE COULD HAVE BEEN MORE THOROUGH IN EXPLAINING THE WHOLE REPAIR PROCESS FROM BEGINNING TO END. AS A RESULT, WE HAVE OFFERED TO REFUND THE CUSTOMER HALF OF THE TOTAL AMOUNT RECEIVED FOR THESE TWO VISITS. THE AMOUNT THE COMPANY WILL RETAIN, COVERS THE TECHNICIANS PARTIAL TIME SPENT ON THE JOB, AS WELL AS MATERIAL COSTS. I found this company through Angie's List and I couldn't have been more pleased with them. I first called Blue Dot this past Friday afternoon (just three days ago) and was immediately put in touch with a salesman. He made arrangements to come out to my house first thing the following morning (Saturday). The salesman/technician did a full assessment of my home and the then current HVAC system, and then he carefully went through all of the options with me. I felt very confident that he knew what he was talking about. (When I mentioned in passing that I was having trouble finding someone to replace my pool heater, he took the time to make several calls to line someone up from his company to do the job. I felt that this was above and beyond...) Once I'd selected a system, arrangements were made for the installation to occur on the very next working day, Monday. (It never occurred to me that installation could happen so quickly.) A crew of five men, in three trucks, arrive exactly when I was told that they'd arrive; i.e., first thing in the morning. The guys were friendly, professional, hard-working, experienced, and they clearly worked well together as a team. I was also pleased by the fact that they actually left my house cleaner and in better order than it had been when they came! A supervisor came in the middle of the day to make sure that I was satisfied with how things were progressing. (Also, a sixth person from Blue Dot came to work on the pool heater, a separate job, exactly at the appointed time.) I had been told the furnace and a/c job might be a two-day installation, but because of these guys were so efficient and industrious the job was finished in just the one day. What I witnessed was a real team effort - so that if one guy was temporarily finished with his portion of the job, he immediately moved on to another part of the job, or joined one of the other guys and helped him. There was no standing around... Later in the day, a group of three additional installers joined the original group, so the place was like a beehive for a while. My overall experience with Blue Dot, which includes the new furnace a/c installation, along with the experience I had initially with the Blue Dot salesman, has been a very favorable one. I would recommend them highly and I will definitely use them again if the need arises.
Description of Work: I had a new high efficiency dual fuel furnace (heat pump with oil burner back-up), new central air-conditioning, and an new thermostat installed at my home. They removed the old oil-fired furnace and central air-conditioner, along with the old refrigerant lines and outdoor unit, and installed a whole new system. They had to take out the old components and bring in the new ones through the house, and they had to move various objects in the basement and in the garage in order to gain access. Blue Dot also is in the process of replacing my old pool heater.

Chuck Carey, the Blue Dot consultant, arrived on time for a 7 a.m. review of our current system and spent over an hour going through our requirement and made some excellent suggestions. He was the only salesperson to actually measure the ductwork - other companies we contacted were not so thorough or knowledgeable. He was courteous, polite and more importantly, knew what he was doing and could quickly recommend replacement systems. He was able to get back to us within 24 hours with an estimate and work began shortly thereafter. The installation team took 2 days to complete all the work and did not leave until the work was completed to our satisfaction. The crew was professional, cleaned up after the installation and attentive to our needs. We appreciate the hard work and knowledge Blue Dot brought to our home. Roth, the installation Supervisor was also available later to answer questions we had about the system. A follow up call to check that the system was working correctly was done promptly to resolve a refrigerant level in one of the units.

When I called, I asked them for the next available appointment. I had to leave the next day between noon and 1pm, so I told them that either before that or after I got back would work best. They said they could set up a 4-hour window for that morning. They never showed and never called!!! I called them at 11:50am (10 min left of their window), and that's when they informed me that the appointment before me was altered. Originally, they had told me that there was one quick-fix appointment before me and that was it. When I talked to them after them not showing up, I was told that the aforementioned job had been assigned to someone else, and the tech that was supposed to do mine was given a new installation job. I asked them why nobody bothered to call and tell me (because I would have simply rescheduled), and she said nobody read the notes on my job order. Yeah, really great company there.

Great! We talked to a person on Saturday and got an appointment for a consultation that Tuesday; the unit was installed on Friday. The person who did the consultation (John Cox) was knowledgeable and helpful. In between when I ordered the unit and when it was installed, I called twice with follow-up questions (whether the heat pump would be effective and whether the humidifier would promote mold growth). John validated my concerns and wasn't at all defensive but clearly explained why the unit I chose wouldn't have the problems some of my friends had warned me about. The guys who did the installation arrived on time (8:25am) and finished by 2:30. They were efficient and unobtrusive (and not bothered by my dog who appointed herself the official supervisor). When they finished, they explained how everything worked and then cleaned everything up. One of the guys wasn't very knowledgeable. When I asked him what a reasonable humidity setting was for the air conditioner, he said 30%. The unit can only be set down to 46%. The other guy knew his stuff, though. Overall, a very good experience!

We called Blue Dot on Monday and Chuck Carey, the sales person, came out for an estimate the following day. He was prompt, professional, knowledgeable and answered all of my questions. He was easily available for additional questions the following day and was able to have our AC installed later that week (installation had to wait due to our schedules, not theirs). We had 3 estimates total and theirs won out because of price, options and a 10 year parts AND labor warranty, which no other company offered (at no extra cost). The installers, Mike and Justin, were prompt, professional and did a great clean-up job afterward. Mike went over the programmable thermostat with us and showed us how to change the filter in the AC unit. In addition, Roth Mack, the installation supervisor, stopped by while the job was underway to check in with the installers and make sure everything was going well. They finished the job in just under 6 hours. I do wish we would have known about the size of the unit...it is much taller than our old one and blocks 1/4 of our window. Other than that, a great experience and would use them again.
