Blue Dot Services

We found Blue Dot on Angie's List a few years back and overall have been pleased. We had a maintenance contract paid for in the fall for both fall (heat) and spring (ac) maintenance service. I called in April to schedule the AC maintenance appointment and was told that July was the earliest they could come! I was rudely told that people had been scheduling appointments since January and that I should have called sooner, didn't I get the postcard that they sent? If I hadn't already paid for this service, I would have found someone else, which I will do for the fall service (I'm probably already too late to get scheduled before December). It's certainly annoying to see Blue Dot advertise on the tv constantly for new business, when they can't accomodate the customers they already have in a reasonable manner. I definitely don't feel valued as a customer. We won't use them again.

I had a very good experience overall. Bill Sears the sales person was excellent to work with. He was very attentive to what I wanted and needed. The estimate and options he worked up were very clear - it made it easier for me to decide between the different options and the estimates from other companies. I called him back a couple of times and he answered several questions that I had. After I signed the contract - I changed my mind about the location of the unit and he was very cooperative and pleasant about the change. We arranged an installation date, the installers showed up. went to work, cleaned up and generally were very efficient. The installation looks fine. There was only 1 thing that bothered me. I later found a hole in another wall in the rec room that had a box leaned in front of it. There must have been a mistake in placing the new cold air return and they cut a hole in another wall. The only part that bothered me about the hole was that the installers did not tell me they had made a mistake - they hid it.

Technician arrived on time and was able to quickly assess the problem. He explained the problems to me--there were several at once which is why the damage was occurring. He leveled the AC, re-sat the insulation, cleared the drain and added a safety switch so if there was a drainage problem in the future the AC would turn off--instead of damaging the downstairs ceiling. He tested the unit several times before declaring it "fixed". I had never had the AC serviced and felt the technician explained the problems very well, was very professional, and the both the work and price were reasonable.

Overall, it went very well. We mentioned Angie's List and received $100 off. An estimator came to the house. He didn't try to "sell" us the most expensive system. He took his time in explaining the benefits of the various products and, working with us, provided a recommendation based on our needs and expectations. He was very helpful and professional. The team that showed up to do the work arrived early. The work lasted a great deal longer than it was estimated to take though they did not indicate they had run into any trouble. It was a Friday (and HOT) and we sort of suspected they were "running down the clock" so they wouldn't have to go on another call. Not a big deal because we were very pleased with the outcome. The system works great - meets our needs and expectations. Would call them again in a heartbeat. Compared to the "keystone cops" we used to call for HVAC work, this company shines! You won't be disappointed.

The service tech was on-time. He quickly diagnosed the problem. I appreciate the fact that even though he was quick, he was still very thorough.

We have always been very satisfied with them. They are very responsive and their people are very knowledgeable. They are neat, clean and very pleasant. Their prices are reasonable.

It went really well. We already had a quote from another place that was for a "high-end" cooling system. Blue Dot really tried to get to know what we would need and we ended up getting a good, but not super expensive system. It ended up being cheaper than the other quote. The guy that came out to do the quote gave our daughters each a stuffed "Blue Dot guy" that they like to play with. We had good personal service and they set up a time to come and install a brand new HVAC system. We scheduled a time and they were punctual. They put cloths down from one end of the house to the other and down into the basement to contain the dirt. They were able to install the HVAC system without too much incident. They did break a light bulb in the utility room which I only noticed because the one they replaced it with looked different than the old one. They called us up a few days before installing the HVAC system and told us they would be unable to re-install our BGE PeakRewards thermostat. Instead they installed a similar digital thermostat that came with the system. Unfortunately when BGE sent a contractor out to put theirs back in they managed to break a feature or our brand new HVAC system and they still haven't been able to fix that. I really wish Blue Dot had been able to re-install the BGE thermostat because the BGE contractors seem so incompetent in comparison.

They do a thorough checkup. They are punctual and professional. The quality of their service is good and I have been satisfied with their service.

Based on positive reviews from Angie's List, we decided to call Blue Dot to compare service estimates against another company. We completed a form on their website and got a phone call the next day to schedule the "comfort consultant" (really, a sales person) to come out. When he came, he looked over the system and wrote out several estimates for different products and efficiency levels. After deciding later that day which system we wanted, we called to schedule the installation. The "comfort consultant" came back out to write up the paperwork (and offered payment options) and scheduled an install date for a week later. He offered a couple of discounts and rebates (and we're eligible for the ARRA tax credit) but completely goofed (?) and didn't include the Angie's List $100 coupon. It felt then like a little double-talk because he said we had ordered a thermostat upgrade that he "forgot" to charge us for and suggested that Angie's List would give us the $100 directly. This was the only odd part of our experience with Blue Dot. Two installers came out at the time and day scheduled and put in the system - indoor and outdoor units. The outdoor unit installation included laying timbers and shoring up the unit to be level on an sloped surface. They completed the work in half a day. Later, someone came out to inspect their work. We had very heavy rains later that day and part of the gravel washed away, so we added a few timbers of our own to ensure that wouldn't happen again. The system's working well, and we're overall very pleased.

We needed a complete replacement of our air handler and heat exchanger. Blue Dot sent out a estimator who was prompt (he called to apologize that he might be five minutes late, and arrived on time anyway) professional, organized, and knowledgeable. He helped us pick the right unit for our house and gave us some additional suggestions about ways to program the unit to save energy. When the installation team arrived they were prompt and quick, and hauled away all of the old equipment. We have had some very minor problems with the electronic control unit of the new system, but it has otherwise been quiet, efficient, and reliable.

The tech arrived on time and was very professional throughout his visit. He took the time to explain what he was doing. He was very complimentary of the installation work (done by another company) and of the brand of furnance. He cleaned up well when he was done.

Our Central AC unit in our new house was not working. Blue Dot came out, and within 45 minutes they determined we had a dead capacitor and a loose wire. Problem was fixed, the cost of the service call was less than the other companies I looked at. I was very happy, and I would definitely call them again.

BlueDot was best of 3 estimates. Their consultant was extremely knowledgeable and efficient, producing a clearly presented and itemized estimate immediately. Offered two packages, both of which included A/C, furnace, *and* water heater. Scheduling was a breeze. Installers showed up on time with blue footies, as previous reviewers have mentioned. Everything was installed in one day. All old stuff hauled away. Very happy with all equipment performance thus far. The thermostat alone is worth the cost of the selected package. Rebates and tax credits lower the overall actual cost. No regrets!

Blue Dot sent four guys to do the work. They were here on time, on the dot! Wore blue booties and put down drop cloths. Told me work would be done by 1:00 pm and work was done even sooner. Very pleasant guys. Explained everything they would do ahead of time and even removed a 6 foot black snake they found underneath my heat pump pad! Cannot beat the price. We haven't had to use the heat or a/c much since installed so can't really report on quality of unit etc. but it is a Carrier so should be OK.

We were very happy overall with our experience. The crew was pleasant, prompt, professional and knowledgeable. They dealt with things that came up and finished the job. The only thing we would have liked was that the project manager would have been more in touch with the project by visiting the site. The crew was not informed about several things about the site.

When my air conditioning went out and they came in and put in a new compressor and everything that goes along with it. I liked their service. They have very good prices. a lot better than the other company that I had quoted. For the same work it was about $1000 less.

They are very punctual. There people are very nice. They clean up after themselves. They are very reliable. They come within a day or so. I will be continuing to use there service.

Bill was extremely professional, even covering his shoes when he came in so he would not soil our floors. He gave us a quote and provided us with reference letters from previous customers. He answered all of our questions (and I had a lot!). He also informed us of discounts we could get and a rebate that would allow us to get a much better unit for only a few hundred more than the basic unit we first inquired about. They scheduled the work for the same week, the workers were punctual. They carried out all the work quickly and neatly (there was absolutely no debris after they left, inside or outside the house). My only complaint was that while they were taking out the furnace there was some cursing and foul language (they apparently had some difficulty getting it out), which I felt was unprofessional. The electrician who came out with them even fixed a light that did not work in the basement while he took care of the other work related to the heat pump.
