They were excellent, in and out. Had the part with them, which was a big help. They cleaned up after themselves, put protective stuff around when they worked. They had to repair a pipe as well.
Description of Work: They had to do something with the sump pump.

Our problem started on a Saturday afternoon, so we were very pleased that someone could come out immediately. The workman tried for several hours to get the drain open. He made progress, but eventually hit a complete obstruction. He said that someone would have to come out with a camera to feed through the drain to determine the problem. [This part of the process cost $386, minus a $25 coupon downloaded from the website.] On Monday, the "cameraman" came and determined that the old original terracota pipe (from about 1920) had collapsed and would have to be replaced. He scheduled the excavators for the next day. We were worried because bad weather was forecast for that Tuesday, but the workers arrived early, got to work immediately, and competed the job by mid afternoon, just before the snow/sleet started. [$4850.00 for this part of the work] All the workers were punctual and neat. The backhoe operator managed to avoid damaging the sidewalk and driveway.
Description of Work: 3 steps were required to deal with a sewer backup into our basement deep sink: (1) Attempt to clean out the sewer blockage with a "snake" (2) Viewing the blockage with a camera when step 1 was unsuccessful (3) excavating the front yard and replacing the sewer pipe from the house to the city main line, including adding an outside clean out.

After the last plumber that I used I was really afraid of calling any plumbers. I took a chance by picking Rotor Rooter from the Yellow Pages. Lal (tech#1167) was sent on the job. Lal fixed the problems that the previous plumber could not fix. He stated that it was difficult to snake and auger around curves. My tub is draining like brand new.
Description of Work: Lal snaked my tub. It took him several attempts but my bathroom is completely operational. He did a fantastic job. Each time he snaked the tub, he would pour more water into it to see if it would go down. He proved his work before he left. I am very pleased with the service that Lal provided and when I call Rotor Rooter again, I will request Lal.

it was fine, they were fast and courteous. Got the job done, however, $250 for 15-20 mins to fix a clogged drain is a bit outrageous! But to be fair, the work was done on the same day I called and it was done on a Saturday.
Description of Work: I accidentally put artichoke hearts into the drain and of course it backed up; they came right away and fixed the problem.

The pipe repair itself seems to have gone relatively well. Otherwise, it was a disaster. Their contract specified that they wouldnt be liable for damage to floors, walls, furnishings, etc. While one plumber exercised a high degree of care, the other treated this waiver of liability as a license to wreak havoc. Instead of moving a small table out of the way, he threw it on its side, breaking it. While removing waste from the basement, he slammed bags of cement pieces and dirt into walls and doors. Rather than haul the trash away, he dumped it in a neighbors private dumpster, eliciting complaints. After the work was finished, we discovered he had hidden most of the cement pieces in a bag under the house rather than removing it. When he cemented over the trench he worked on, he did a terrible job, leaving dirt exposed and, in places, the cement higher than the surrounding floor. Rather than have him fix things, as the company offered, we had someone else we trusted do the work.
Description of Work: The first plumber we called did not have the capability to use a camera to check for pipe damage. At his request, Roto-Rooter performed this task, checking a clogged drainage pipe, running under the foundation of the house, and determined that the pipe was broken. They gave an estimate (approx. $3,000) to remove and replace that portion of the pipe. They jack-hammered through the concrete foundation and excavated a trench to access the pipe. As work progressed, they determined that more of the pipe had deteriorated and required replacement. They removed all of the damaged pipe and replaced it. Upon completion of that stage, they filled the dirt back into the trench and covered it with a rough cement finish. They were also supposed to remove all remaining waste material.

One other company on your list tried clearing drain earlier in same day but couldnt clear it and instead asked if we had considered a completely new bathroom. I called Roto Rooter and they came same day, did the work, cleaned up and gave me the wooden toy part. I had to pay both the first company $50 and Roto Rooter, about $150 but it was worth it because they cleared a drain that had been slow for 10 years!
Description of Work: Cleared bathtub drain that had been very slow for years. Removed part of wooden toy that unknown to us had been in drain for about 10 years and had not been found by other companies that tried to clear drain.

He came when he said, he was polite and carried himself in a professional manner. He was knowledgeable and had a hard job going into the small crawl space area to replace the pipe work. He didn t have any problems and everything has been working great since. He cleaned up before he left and we were very impressed with them.

I discovered the flood on a Saturday at 10.30 a.m and at 1 p.m they were already at my house working on it, and they didnt charge extra because it was a Saturday. He even cleaned up the utility sink. He did a good job and was very fast.
Description of Work: I live in an old house and my plumbing was backed up because of feminine products, so all of a sudden my basement was flooded. So one person came and put a big snake in the pipes and cleaned them. It took him a few hours to finish it.

I must say that they were beyond great. They did such an excellent job. I called them at 10:30 at night and they stayed here until 1:00 in the morning until they had it fixed. I actually ended up tipping them because they were so cheap. I am very satisfied with them and I think they are just exceptional.

Called Roto Rooter on a Friday late afternoon after getting some outrageous quotes from some independent and big name local companies. Roto Rooter replied, and had someone come out within one and a half hours of my call. Bawla (#2665) came out and provided the free estimate immediately, commencing works once I gave him the go ahead. Very professional and courteous, and provided clean-up of the mess in our basement. No problems since.

I still can't believe that: a) the company sent someone so fast on Easter Sunday; b) that Ed worked as hard as he did; c) that he managed to complete the task without a single drop of sewage getting anywhere else in the house; and that he fixed the toilet just because he noticed it. These folks are fabulous.
Description of Work: On Easter Sunday, right as we were all going out for brunch, we discovered the main sewer line to and from our house was backing up in to the basement shower. In a panic, we called Roto Rooter -- who had Ed there in 37 minutes. Not only did he spend almost three hours unclogging the main sewer line, but he hand carried an entire tub full of disgusting water -- eight gallons at a time as he sucked it up in his shop-vac -- out to a storm drain so that when he released the pressure in the sewer line, it would not overflow into the whole basement. He also shimmed a tippy toilet for good measure.

At first I didn't understand how a drain cleaning could escalate into a $5400 problem, however, after excavation, it was clear that pipe was rotted and work was required. Throughout they were professional and once told to proceed, accomplished the work ASAP, including permits. Work was top quality.
Description of Work: Snaked kitchen drain, and snake got stuck. They followed by sending a camera crew to confirm main line was ok and then followed by digging up basement and replacing kitchen branch line (18 feet). Original visit was Thursday, manager was on-site to assess on Monday.

Im glad we used Roto-Rooter to fix our problem. We didnt think it would be easy to find a plumber on a Saturday evening but Roto-Rooter was there within the hour. And the rates were very reasonable. We got great service and he spent time telling us how the problem happened and how to prevent it from happening again. If we ever need a plumber again, I would definitely want to go through Roto-Rooter.
Description of Work: We had a plumbing problem on the weekend (a Saturday afternoon) and when the toilet was flushed it came out of the pipes in the laundry room. We tried to snake it out ourselves but our snake wasnt long enough or powerful enough. We used Angies List to look up plumbing companies that do emergency work and gave Roto-Rooter a call. They were at out house within an hour and worked on the bathroom for probably 2 to 2 and 1/2 hours correcting the problem. We had a tree root that had grown in the pipe and it slowly started to back the pipes up.

When I called a very polite operator took my order right away and was said someone was on their way. The service man arrived within one hour of my phone call. I walked him through what I thought was the problem. He verified my assessment by running water until it backed up. He also checked the line by opening up the clean out in my front yard. That clean out was stripped and needed to be broken open. Before braking it open he asked permission. He threw a pebble down which seemed a bit odd; maybe he was expecting to hear a splash? He then snaked the main line and removed the roots which had grown into the pipe and caused the backup. My only complaint about the service was that he didn't clean up very well. The dirt from the line was wiped up, but still dirt streaks were visible around the area around the clean out. Another round of wiping up would have been appreciated. Also the price seemed steep ($385 for the snaking plus $6 for the replacement cap), but the service was very prompt.
Description of Work: My main sanitary line was snaked from the clean out in my basement to the street about 90 feet away.

I called Roto-Rooter on Saturday morning, having first called Len the Plumber asking for an emergency appointment, to no avail: the first available appointment was Wednesday afternoon due to my basement toilet spilling raw sewage all over the basement floor. The plumber arrived less than two hours after my phone call and gave me an estimate that was about what I was expecting, roughly 400 dollars to clean out the main sewer line. He spent over an hour cleaning out the main, answered all of my questions and was very pleasant.

Roto-Rooter came out to our house within an hour of our call to them on a Sunday afternoon. Our main waste pipe was completely clogged. The serviceman was a bit on the silent side, though not unfriendly. He went to work quickly. He gouged up some woodwork bringing the big machine in, but it was a tight squeeze getting it down narrow steps and into a small bathroom. It took about 90 minutes to do the work. He used our Shop-vac to empty out a toilet and left us to disinfect the Shop-vac. Seemed like they should have equipment for doing that. Otherwise it was ok. I might hire them again if I cant find anyone better by asking around.

This was a disaster. The first crew managed to get their cable stuck down the drain. They sent for a second crew, who could not get it out, and broke 3 of their machines in the process, after spending the entire day in the basement. They then said they would need a camera crew to figure out what their cable was caught on, and did not mention this would be an additional $450. The camera person was supposed to show up the next day, but then was not available. So we spent the whole weekend waiting for him to be available. Then on Tuesday (Monday was Labor Day), the entire basement flooded. We called them immediately and they sent a third crew over, who managed to clear the drain and also got a camera guy over (and apparently there had never even been a report in for the first camera guy to come in the first place); after about 6 hours they managed to get the original cable out, but meanwhile we had to pay double the original quote. Obviously they are not liable for anything.

Roger, they guy who came, performed a horrible job running a snake from the basement and spewed sewer all over the walls. Did not run snake through the clogged drain, as he said that the sewer clog was unsanitary and that I needed to get it cleaned before he did anything. Pretty bad experience, considering the plumber refused to clean a clogged sewer, which is supposed to be his job.
