Appointment scheduled same day as when I called, set up simply for me to be payee/authorization and the tenant to receive the worker. After a bit of confusion upon his arrival as to which # to call, the plumber arrived within :30 of the scheduled appointment, and was courteous. I received a straight-forward call explaining the situation he'd found, his recommendation and request to perform service, which is EXACTLY what I needed! He let me know he'd be snaking a line and if there was no clog I would not be charged the fee of snaking. He did sell me a $180 reinstallation of toilet parts, worth about $30 plus :30 labor, which seems high, but was needed. I will ABSOLUTELY look to them again for an emergency situation, but would love to find a less expensive solution.

Service experience was great. No complaints. I would use again.
Description of Work: Had a backed up lavatory drain and found the service on Angie's List. Nothing spectacular or complicated with this problem, but service was accommodating and timely. Attraction to service provider was a discount coupon ($15) and reviews on AL.

They’ve been fine to work with! They did provide a free estimate. Their website is very user-friendly and it was to schedule an appointment. They have great customer service; we asked them to come back to fix something and they did without any problems. They were not the cheapest, but their rates were fair. They did a good job!

The workers that came out were great. They did a scope with a camera for the inspection. It was determened that they needed to replace a valve, which I was happy to pay for. It was a good service, but the overall price was very expensive. They charged me $600.

The experience was excellent. Our clogged drain problem is resolved (we still have a mess in the basement from the back-up, but that's another story). Price was about 200$ more expensive than a simple drain snaking done by our local plumber, but considering A) this was on a Sunday B) the whole sewer main pipe was snaked and C) he was timely - I see this as a fair price. Roto-Rooter was timely and upfront on the costs. Even though he could have sold us a cheaper solution (snake the drains instead of the sewer main), he didn't to make sure our problem was not going to be re-occurring.
Description of Work: Our septic system backed up into our basement late saturday evening. We had a flooding remediation company come in and pump out the backed up water from the basement, but they told us that our sewer line is now clogged. Sunday morning we called around a few plumbers, and either they were not available or didn't respond. We then contacted Roto-Rooter and were greeted with a friendly dispatcher who promised a plumber within the hour. Exactly an hour later, a very polite gentlemen arrived and assessed the situation. He even put on shoe covers before coming into our house (big deal in my books). He indicated that most likely our septic is full and suggested that it is addressed first to save us the charge he would have to make to unclog the line. He could have left and let us address the septic first, but was kind enough to actually open up our septic tank and show us that it was full but not critical that couldn't wait until Monday to be addressed (therefore, saving us a lot of $$$ in emergency call fees). He then also suggested to get our main sewer line snaked to make sure it is cleaned out. Once the main line was snaked, our drain problems were resolved. He was very good at explaining why you want to get it snaked at the main sewer line versus at the drain (as a matter of fact, our previous plumbers snaked our drains twice but we kept running into the same issue a few months later). He was courteous and honest on the cost and risks, as well as helped save me a lot of money by understanding that our septic needed pumped but not immediately as an emergency call.

Their service was very well. They were prompt. Everything is working.
Description of Work: They helped me with my sump pump.
Their service went very well. They are good and were pretty quick. They had the sewer line replaced in one day with the yard reseeded. I am satisfied. They do call if they are going to be held up. They get there as quick as they can. They put a camera thought the sewer line and they had a sensor they used in the front yard to show where the line was.

I was very pleased with the service I received from Charley today and ultimately from the Customer Service Team including Charley's manager, Tiffany in billing and whoever helped make decisions regarding my situation. I had originally called to see if a camera person could come take a look down our exterior storm drain (which runs into the ground) to see if there was a clog or if the pipe was crushed by tree roots. The camera man Paul did try to call me before to inform me of the fee for that service, but he wasn't able to reach me. When he arrived he explained that the service was $499 just to run the camera. I asked whether they would be able to remove that fee if we discovered that it needed to be drilled out and if we had their company do it. He told me yes. He brought me an invoice to perform the work for $499 and before I signed it I said, "just to be sure, are you sure they will remove the $499 camera fee if we go with you guys to drill it out?" and he said yes. I signed the permission to do work, he ran the camera four feet into the ground and hit dirt. Then he said it would be $389 for them to come out and snake the line. He mus have misunderstood my questions earlier. He just kept repeating himself to clarify what their policy is, but after he'd already done the work. So I called their billing department and explained what happened and Tiffany explained again how they normally do things and that someone should have explained it when I called to schedule the appointment. In summary, always call for a snake first (rather than for a camera) because the camera work is included in main sewer line clog removals. In this case it wouldn't have mattered for me because the clog was in an exterior storm drain line and they don't include the camera on those jobs. Tiffany agreed to send a technician to snake the line for the cost of the camera work. So we kind of compromised and the $888 job ($389 drain snaking and $499 camera work) was done for $499. I wasn't thrilled since it was their communication mistake, but Charley (the snaking technician) made up for it. Charley worked very hard and never gave up and ultimately did an excellent job. He tried to clear the line and at first it seemed like our drain went nowhere (sort of like a French drain). He dug down along side the pipe to see if we might be able to bypass the drain for heavy storms and he painstakingly and tirelessly dug until he got to the pipe. Then he and I thought it through together and based on where the pipe was located in relation to the house, we realized that the pipe must go somewhere besides four feet into the ground. So he tried again and discovered that the pipe bent and that may be why we had so much compacted dirt there. He snaked and snaked and snaked and eventually it cleared!!! Then we waited for it to drain out at the bottom of our property, but nothing. So we suspected there must be some additional back up somewhere. So he dug out the bottom end of the pipe to make sure it had ample room to drain to the alley, even using a saws-all to cut a hole in our retaining wall where the water was getting trapped. About this time we discovered that water was coming up through the yard half-way up, so he dug down to try to find the source of the water and discover whether the pipe was cracked or crushed or what. He spent much effort digging, but we never did find the pipe before the mosquitoes and late hour ran us out of the yard. Charley's work helped us with our most pressing problem, helped us learn what other challenges we need to face on our property and gave us good instruction on how to handle the new problems. He was wonderful.
Description of Work: Our exterior storm water drain was clogged so they ran a camera down the pipe, snaked the line, identified where water may be backing up in the system and helped clear out some additional slow flow areas.

Our toilet (and ultimately main line) became clogged after my toddler flushed a bunch of diaper wipes down the toilet. Roto-Rooter came within an hour to give a free estimate. Although the price was exorbitant, I had called two other plumbers who weren't available for days and we needed to be able to flush, bathe, do laundry, etc, so we went with it. The first friendly technician took care of unclogging the line and was professional and clear about the cost, the pros and cons of our situation. The next morning the dispatcher called to schedule the videographer and they came on time at a time convenient for me. Although they must be trained to scare and upsell you on having them do a $5,000 "dig up and replace the tube" job, it was very useful to see the actual condition of the line and to verify that the clog had been sufficiently removed. Overall, I would recommend this company and these services if you're in a bind like we were.
Description of Work: The service included unclogging our main sewer line to the street and a second visit by a sewer line videographer to show us the condition of the line.

They responded in about 35 minutes to unplug the kitchen sink. They completed the job in about 40 minutes. Everything was great, but they were very expensive I thought. I suppose if the problem had been tougher, and the price had been the same, it would have seemed more reasonable. I have no complaints, but I might try another place with 24 hour service next time.
Description of Work: They unplugged my kitchen sink. There was a garbage disposal and air gap for a dish washer in the line, so plunging wasn't working. I didn't feel like trying to snake the drain myself.

Roto Rooter sent someone right away when I called. He gave me an estimate (higher than I was expecting but the lowest of the three that I got) and then offered to do the work on the spot. He pulled out some roots that had been clogging the drain and quickly identified the location of the problem. He was highly knowledgable and informative. I will definitely use Roto Rooter again.
Description of Work: Snaked out underground drain from two downspouts.
Overall it went well. The staff I dealt with were all professional and courteous and friendly and I had no issues at all with anyone. While not happy about the unexpected repair, I did know from neighbors that had replaced their sewer lines that the price was on the high end, but not unreasonably so and it was a holiday weekend. And a couple neighbors who did pay less did not have the same level of care filling the trench and restoring the landscaping, and had to do a lot of work on their own to level things out. Given I had a backup with sewage in the house on Thursday that they cleared, and that I had working water and sewer by Saturday afternoon, I cannot complain. We will see just how the lawn comes back, but given the heavy equipment and heat, they did a lot to get it somewhere close to what it was. I wish it were cheaper but I cannot complain about the employees nor the quality of the work nor their speediness and attention to detail. And the financing offer helped seal the deal if only to avoid having to scale back our vacation due to spending the vacation fund on the sewer line. Now I can pay it all off with no interest but in a way I can plan for and still have vacation :)
Description of Work: First service was a late evening visit on Thursday due to a sewage backup into the house. Called at 7pm, arriving at 8 PM, the gentleman stayed until midnight to clear the clog and get the blockage to dissipate. However, tree roots were found in the sewer line, and so this visit ended with blockage cleared, very limited use of sewer restored (water use only, no solid waste) and an appointment for the camera guys to come the next day. Camera guys came timely Friday morning and it was evident pretty quickly that the terra cotta sewer line was ruined by tree roots. Heading into Memorial Day weekend, was offered price of $5000 (with credit for $$ spent the prior evening) to trench, replace line, fill trench, reseed and haul away anything needing hauling away (as it was possible the driveway may be covering part of the line.) Agreed (took advantage of 6 months same as cash financing offered, sparing the vacation fund from decimation) and on Saturday a full crew showed up with backhoe and engineer. Had a 4 hour wait for county to mark their lines and Miss Utility to mark their lines, but digging started at noon and the sewer was restored by 4 PM. Trench was about 25 feet long by 14 feet deep, was told this was a very deep line for the area. Excavated dirt was piled onto plywood that covered the lawn to protect it. Due to holiday weekend, could not fill trench until county inspector approved, and that meant waiting till after holiday. Tuesday a backhoe operator showed up by 9, but inspector didn't come until 3, so refilling trench was completed by 6 PM. IN doing do, they tamped the dirt using the backhoe and the lawn under the plywood was in good shape considering being under tons of dirt for 3 days in 90 degree heat. They leveled out the trench, tidied up the lawn and then reseeded not just the trench but any lawn area impacted by the backhoe or their work, then covered with straw.

It is clear that we had a communication failure in this instance and let down our customer. Whenever there is a prolonged game of phone tag and phone calls are not returned in a timely manner, the result is miscommunication. We accept fault and deeply regret the delay caused by the breakdown in customer communication. This instance is not typical. Nevertheless, we feel strongly that we have taken appropriate steps to address the problem and improve communication protocol with all of our customers. Our waterproofing services are world class but this means nothing if we aren't communicating well with each and every customer. We have taken this lesson to heart and have tightened procedures, improved response times and we're redoubling our efforts to make customer communication a top priority across the board. Our goal is to ensure that our customers always feel they know exactly what is going on, when we'll be there, how much the job will cost and how long it will take to complete. We appreciate this customer's candid response and we are reaching out to address all concerns.

Had a great coupon for 50% off main line cleaning with free video inspection and scheduled an appointment the same day. The first technician showed up on time and got started right away with cleaning the house main. He called dispatch to request the video inspection, but dispatch sent the wrong person. So I scheduled the video inspection for the next morning at 8AM and no one showed up or called so I called the company. The rep said they don't usually do camera work that early. Why did they schedule me for that time then? Were they just making things up now they had my money? Roto Rooter is a recognizable name, but the service is sub-par, the prices are unconscionably high unless you have a great coupon, and the reps are more sales people than customer service people. Consider competitors and think twice before you sign on the dotted line.

the company was called to solve a sewage back up in the house. they determined that the sewer pipe outside the house between the foundation wall and the garage needed to be repaired, or replaced and then fixed. they gave a two part estimate, the first part was to excavate up to 10 ft and up to 5 ft deep to REPLACE the old pipe with new pipe. The second part, was to repair the clean out . They found out the first part was not needed, and did not do that work . the second part work was done. They took advantage of my wife who trusted the people involved, and signed everything they wanted while I was out of town. They chartged $ 4700 in cash which my wife paid and only repaired the clean out pipe. They claim too bad they said after the fact , my wife agreed to all the work and the price. they are deceitful and untrustworthy firm and all should be aware of this outfit, all involved from harry Kresge to Nathan the estimator

I also wanted them to take out a disposal that I never use. I asked 3 times, and he said he would however it was never removed. He unclogged it and it started to run, but I still wanted it removed. I was charged, though, for that service that occured. I could barely understand the serviceman when he was out, and there was a definite communication barrier between the two of us. He didn't have a part that he needed, and had to go to Home Depot to get it. He then made a big deal that he didn't charge me for the part. I was originally around $400 for the service trip, but it ended up being close to $700. The price changed from the quote to the time he was finished with the work. He even changed all of the paperwork as well. He did not make me aware of any price increases during the duration of his work at my house. When I pressed him on the issue, he raised his voice to me. I figured it was best just to pay the bill, and get him to leave.

Though the three office people I spoke with on the phone were courteous, each refused to offer any estimate of cost for a standard, residential sewer clean-out. This is work they do day in and day out! They did admit it was a per-job pricing system, and not based on time. They offered to provide a cost-free estimate on site, but that wouldn't work out as I needed to have at least a ballpark range in order to ask my tenant to take off from work to have the repair done. Each of the three office people said that NO ONE in the office had the price list from which the on-site technician would get his numbers. Really? How is it possible that no manager is able to review the technicians' pricing and conclude whether the technicians have priced any particular job fairly? This sewer problem has occurred before, so I could articulately explain the details of the situation, the layout of the sewer line, and location of easy-access clean-out. Four other sewer clean-out plumbers listed on Angie's List did offer me a specific cost to do the job, and a fifth gave a first hour rate with 1/2 increment rate thereafter. Without a ballpark cost range from Roto-Rooter, I was unwilling to waste my tenant's time, and therefore refused to have Roto Rooter come out. I selected someone else to do the repair.

On 12/20/2011, my kitchen double sink backed upped on me and I was leaving for the holiday the next day. I was also having company staying at my condo while I was away. So a state of panic set in. Rotor rooter was right there to the rescue. The phone receptionist was very courteous and took all the necessary information, and the technician arrived within the hour. The technician was very professional and very helpful. Because he only had to break through the pipe under the sink, he discounted my price by 50%. He also left me a container of drain cleaner to use monthly. I would definitely use Roto-Rootor again.p
