We've had problems with our drains since moving into our house in 2007. Oftentimes the drain outside the basement door would back up so we'd call our regular plumber to snake it and call it a day. Eventually last year we noticed the basement toilet bubbling when we flushed upstairs. We had our regular plumber in again and were told it was a problem with the toilet itself and nothing wrong with the plumbing. Then we had sewage back up into our basement tub and we knew the problem was much bigger than an old toilet. Not trusting our plumber any longer, we called Roto Rooter at 6pm on a weeknight and they came out within a few hours to snake the sewer line. They "throw in" a camera inspection for free (yeah right don't we all know it's just built into the price?) and came out the next day to do it. They found two bellies in the sewer drain sitting under our front yard and told us the whole thing needed to be replaced. Ugh. We got a camera inspection and quote from another drain company confirming the diagnosis and then had a third company out for a quote. Roto Rooter was the least expensive but also seemed to have the most experience in this work so we chose them. They started work within a couple days and the whole thing was over and done with in about 36 hours. They had a lot of digging to do and had to break up a portion of our concrete driveway in order to get it done so it was not pretty. The guys who did the digging and replacement of the line seemed very professional and like they care about the quality of their work. However, the guys who came on the second day to back-fill weren't quite as professional so it's good my husband works from home and could watch what they were doing. At one point he had to stop them from what they were doing and call our estimator to advise the workers to be more careful with their work. So I would definitely try to be home during the work and make sure they are being careful at all times and not just trying to get it done as quickly as possible. Our yard next to the driveway was a mess when they got done so I wish they had taken more care in protecting our grass and not letting the back-filled gravel get all over the place. But, all in all, the job was done well so I would recommend them to others.
Description of Work: First they snaked our main drain, then did a camera inspection and finally replaced the sewer line from the house to the road.

Fine. I supplied the new faucet the plumber did the rest.
Description of Work: Replaced my kitchen faucet and check out the plumbing under the sink. Overall the service was good, the plumber was neat, did the job well, answered my questions. He was on time and phoned to let me know he was on the way. the only issue i had was the person who made the appointment should have mentioned the fact that they charged $350 to replace a kitchen faucet. Surprise! I had no idea it was that costly. The deal was 79.95 for $250 (2 hours) of work and so I was very shocked to learn that would need to pay another $100. This should have been told to me when I mentioned the work i wanted to have done when I made the appointment.

We are first time homeowners to our new townhome. We have lived on military housing forever so we both freaked out when our toilet overflowed. This was around 945 pm so literally we were grossed out but really, really freaking out. Usually when anything happened when we lived on base, we just called the housing office and they would send someone to fix it. And for the life of us, we didn't know how to turn the water off. I told my husband to call Roto-Rooter, after discovering a B rating on Angie's list and saw that they operate 24/7. He called and at first they told my husband that they would be here between 10-1am. Remember, we were still freaking out since the water from the toilet bowl still kept running over the toilet bowl. We just said yeah, whatever, just hurry. We took shifts on emptying the water from the toilet to the sink. Then we thought, oh, why not push the button to stop the water, since we sorta remembered from a previous plumber told us. Okay that stopped the water and we thought, should we just cancel and tell them to come another time? Then we both said, forget about it.. He's on the way and just wanted this fixed asap. The plumber called back and actually made it to our home within 15 minutes from the initial call. My husband forgot his name but he he was very quick and efficient. The snake part was a little loud but trust me, that was the least of my worries. The cost was $351.66 with the $40 coupon from Angies List. Even though this was very expensive, and with us being illiterate in plumbing 101, I think we learned a lesson here. Next time (hopefully there will be no next time!), we would just stop the water flow and wait till the next business working day to snake out anything. And we would have benefited from that $70 coupon for $280 worth of plumbing from Angie's List but we had to use it the next business day. Other than that, good job done and we will call again if we have any problems with plumbing.
Description of Work: Snaked our toilet and replaced a valve (or some part, sorry, don't remember what it's called) in our toilet to stop running.

Excellent response. Roto-Rooter gave me a next day appointment. Unusual in my experience of "Big Deals". Serviceman was on time, courteous and knowledgeable. Told him where the leak might probably was, he cut out that portion of the wall and replaced a portion of the copper pipe. He also pointed out the incorrect installation of the new sink garbage disposal. Now the pricing! The Big Deal was for $250 worth of work for $79. Can't imagine how he figured the price except by bartering!!! Paid $100 more for the work. So if you decide on a "Big Deal" that is for a certain $value worth, get an estimate of the work first, so the price won't be startling and and take away the satisfaction of a job done well. Other than that pricing dilemma, Roto-Rooter Plumbing provided A-1 service.

Called them out to take care of a broken pipe, the guy came out looked at it, told me it would cost $4000 and left. Told me he would send me an estimate which I never received. Did not get the pipe fixed, I had to do it myself the same day. So no work was performed by the contractor.

They came out, and they knew what the problem was. It was a dripping faucet in the tub. They didn't have the part and said they had to go get the part, which would have included a travel charge and the total charge would have been $400. They didn't repair it; they just tightened it. I wouldn't use them again.

I did not know that the cost of installing the faucet would be over $300. I thought the $79 for $250 labor would be enough to cover the installation/replacement of an existing faucet. Learned me lesson!

The service person was on time an very friendly and nice with a great smile. I mention this because he kept smiling the entire time he spoke to me and was very pleasant. He informed me of the issues that could have caused my drain to clog. He informed me of the options he could take to address the slow drain. Some of the options seemed a bit drastic but I could appreciate the options. At the end of the day I ended up paying for the full value of the $244.95 service which negated the point of the coupon. So what I thought was a really good deal wasn't as great a deal as proposed. The coupon was $79 for minor plumbing including unclogging a drain. Well when the guy came he informed me that I was responsible for paying anything OVER $250 and the cost to snake the drain (the only way to unclog it without taking apart my bathroom) was $399. he also has to cut into the pipe to snake the drain so I needed to purchase a part for $15.96. So my out of pocket cost was $164.96 + $79 coupon cost total cost of $243.96 to unclog a drain.

We have had this work done before (a recurring problem every few years). This time the technician (Jeff #1174 from the Jessup, MD location) did a very thorough job of making sure it was cleared out for as far as he could reach with his equipment. In the past workers stopped the minute the waste water started flowing. We had the pipes scoped the next day and it was clear that there was no remaining debris. Jeff was very professional, cleaned up after himself and discussed approaches to follow to prevent future problems.

After our regular plumber told us that our slow running drain could not be helped, we called Roto-Rooter. The drain was now fully clogged and not draining at all. We called on Saturday for a Sunday appointment. The woman who took my call was pleasant and helpful. On Sunday at the appointed time, Kam arrived. I was a little taken aback by the $399 price tag but decided that if he could get the drain unclogged, it would be far less expensive than replacing pipes. He assured me that we could and that there was a six month warantee. I was convinced. Kam was in our kitchen for well over two hours and, lo and behold, he cleared it. In addition to solving the problem, he was very professional and just a pleasure to deal with. All in all, a great experience.k

Service was okay. The individual that actually came out had a thick accent and was hard to understand at times. Didn't bring any towels to clean the water up so I had to use my own and he didn't seem to have any thought or care about that. When I asked what other places around the area charged for the same service they were providing he laughed at me and thought what I had asked was ridiculous. I thought it was kind of rude. He got the job done and everything worked fine but the customer service was not the best.

When Thomas got here he looked at the job and quoted $210 for the water heater, which is billed as an hour job. He then told me that the coupon was not good for diagnosing a leak. It's lost on me how that doesn't qualify as labor, but long story short, that was going to be another $195 to find the leak, even though I have a pretty good idea what the source is. Long story short, he fixed the water heater in about 45 minutes, about 15 of which was spent walking to and from his van repeatedly. This only confirms my feeling that this job is a stretch to call an hour of work. Because of the coupon it ended up costing about $120 where it would have been about $260 without, so I certainly got a deal in that sense, but frankly I feel like the rates are a ripoff. I gave C rating because I have no doubt they are in line with the industry average, but $210/hr for plumbing is highway robbery, but you have no choice but to pay it.
Description of Work: I called roto-rooter for 2 issues. One was a basic leak in the pressure relief valve in my hot water heater. The second is a leak from one of my upstairs bathrooms which was discovered in a home inspection. I bought the $79 coupon for $250 worth of labor figuring that would put a good dent in my bill.

The tech was knowledgeable and polite and appears to have cleared the issue. He diagnosed the problem as roots and suggested I use root killer as a follow up. Service was fairly expensive and the estimate seemed to be sort of negotiated, rather than a standard price. I was able to us an RR online coupon. The tech arrived hours after the scheduled window. Clean up was solid and complete.
