Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Water Cleanup

My original call was because I thought that a pipe was leaking in the basement (water supply). The technician checked it while I flushed the toilet. He discovered that it was not the pipe but the toilet leaking over the pipe. He said that it was the wax ring and that it was bad and needed to be replaced. There normal price for this was $212 I believe. He reminded me that their hourly rate is $250 and that my coupon for $99 covered this repair but I couldn't get a refund. He did however charge another $33 for the replacement of the water filling unit in the tank. He was efficient and cleaned up after himself.

We were having a plumbing emergency - toilet was backing up - into the shower and the floor. It wasn't pretty. I called the 1-800 number and had someone at the house within an hour. The plumber worked for 2 hours to get the pipe cleaned out and then is sending someone with a camera to make sure it is all cleaned out properly. We have an old house and I braced myself for a huge repair. The price wasn't as bad as I thought - he took care to protect the he was working in from the 'stuff' from the toilet. We are pleased and will use them again.

We had old cast iron piping that needed replacing, which they did. They also unplugged a few drains for us. The work went very well and we are happy. They work quickly and effectively and cleaned up very well afterwards.

It was great. They did a good job and it was well priced. It was speedy service. I could schedule everything on line, which I appreciated and they had discounts on line. I was able to get an appointment very quickly. I would definitely use them again.

It was excellent. They were very quick to respond to requests for services. They came out and looked at what we had going on and fixed it promptly. They cleaned up very nicely. They gave us some tips on how to prevent a reoccurrence of the drain problem that we were having. I also kicked in a question that was not related to the project and he took a quick look at that. We were quite pleased that it was taken care of.

I called Angie's List on Friday, 9/19/2014 to switch funds from Big Deal I had not used to the one for Roto Rooter(RR). About an hour after my call to Angie's List I received a call from Roto Rooter. I was surprised because this was late on a Friday afternoon, like around 4pm. I was not expecting a call from RR. They called and had availability the next day, Saturday morning. I knew there was a leak, but I did not know to what extend except that it was also leaking into the downstairs bathroom. Our time slot was from 8am -10am that morning. The technician, Chal, arrived at 7:50am. I showed him the tub upstairs, where it was coming through downstairs and where the access was adjoining to bathroom upstairs. After looking at the area the technician was able to locate the problem(s). I thought there was only one :( There was a leak from the overflow in the tub, the connection between the pipe from the overflow to drain was non-existent and there were slits in an adjoining pipe. I asked if the $250.00 would cover the job. He said no. I asked why not? He explained the necessary work. Then he asked if I wanted a repair or a replace. The replace would entail more work and money. I opted for the repair as all I really wanted was to stop the leak. It was not cost effective to replace since we are planning to redo the bath entirely in the near future. He also explained that there would be a hole in the ceiling downstairs. [There was already a hole from the drip. I thought he meant a bigger hole.] He stated that the water would have to be turned off until he was done. We could flush each toilet (we have 2) only once. The price was $470.00 and change, with the Big Deal. Chal went to the store to purchase the part, quoted an estimated time for the work to be about 4 hours and agreed to replace a handle on our cold water faucet in the shower with a standard handle. (We were using a screw driver since the original handle did not work. Lol! You do what you have to at times.) The work was completed in less time. The hole was the same as it was originally. There is no leak. Chal was friendly, very matter of fact in explaining my options and worked with me, as I kept repeating the itemization of the bill and what was needed, because I was working on a tight budget. I am very pleased.

Charles came out the day after I purchased a Big Deal. This service provider was great. When I needed them they were there.

Let me start by saying that the quality of the work performed by the plumber was excellent. That being said, I found the cost of Roto-Rooter's services to be off the charts expensive. I purchased a deal off of Angie's list to get $250.00 worth of plumbing services for $79.00 . Roto-Rooter called me and we scheduled an appointment. The plumber arrived within the scheduled two hour window. I explained we needed a sink in our powder room hooked up and the faucet attached to the sink. Please bear in mind, there was no construction - the old vanity was gone and the new vanity was in place waiting for the new sink. The total quote on the work was $421.85 ($389.00 for labor and $32.85 for parts) for what was less than 90 minutes of work. I found the fee structure to be exorbitantly expensive. Total price $421.85 to hook up the sink, minus my $250.00 discount coupon, so I paid out of pocket ($79.00 for coupon and $171.85 remaining balance) $250.85 to get the sink installed. Again, based on their fee structure, which is per job, not by the hour, I would have paid $421.85 to install a powder room sink with my coupon. I also had an existing kitchen sink faucet that needed to be replaced. I asked for a quote to replace the faucet and it was $211.00 plus parts. I had the plumber in our house so I reluctantly agreed to have him install the faucet. Once the plumber started working, he informed me that my garbage disposal needed to be replaced. I asked him the cost of replacing the disposal (labor only - as I had a garbage disposal in my garage) and he said it would be $314.00 plus parts. So the total to labor cost to replace a kitchen faucet and garbage disposal would have been $525.00 plus parts. I told him to stop working and I would get it done myself. To summarize, Roto-Rooter's full price to install a powder room vanity sink and faucet, replace a kitchen faucet and replace a garbage disposal (this is parts and labor only as I had all the garbage disposal, faucet, sink, etc.) would have been $946.85 plus parts for kitchen faucet and garbage disposal. Please bear in mind, this pricing included muti-job discounts. Before I wrote this review, I wanted to be objective and get a second quote. I went to Lowe's where I purchased the kitchen sink faucet and garbage disposal. I asked for a quote to install the garbage disposal and kitchen faucet, it was a total of $179.00 to install both opposed to Roto-Rooter's $525.00. I've bought other deals from Angie's list and have been pleased with the value. This one not so much.

He was there quickly and he did a great job. The problems that we had are resolved. I was fine with the work he was done. It was easy for the scheduling.

The guy knew what he was talking about. My wife flushed a rag down the toilet and he had to take the toilet off to get it out. He noticed I was in a wheel chair and we did not have a handicap toilet. He said if I wanted one he could do it. We got one and he installed it. He has always been good. He got out within 20 minutes after I called him.

It was very good. I like them very much. I would use this provider again in the future.

That was awesome. I wanted a few things done like fixing the faucets. He was very helpful and efficient. He advised me about what not to do in regards to work I needed done on my bathtub. There were no additional charges on top of the 79$. He came right out, addressed the problem right away and didn't waste a lot of time. He told me what was wrong, gave me advice and fixed it. In hindsight, he probably didn't give me the full benefit of 250$. He wasn't here that long. The price was good for what he did.

They were quick to offer an onsite visit for free. Once the worker showed up, he was able to diagnose the problem right away. Once he diagnosed the problem, he gave me a reasonable quote right away, and said he could fix immediately. I had not purchased my Angie's deal yet, so he said I could purchase the deal and it would apply to that days work. The work seemed simple, but there was a possibility that he was going to have to do some drilling. However, he tried three different ways to avoid drilling, and found the solution on the 3rd try. I fully appreciate them going the extra mile and am going to call them again.

We purchased this for a friend considering gifting was an option for this specific big deal. Scheduling was easy and they fixed my neighbors issues. Would use if we had any issues!

I was able to get an appointment that day, and they came out the next day. They were very responsive, timely and I had no problems or issues.

The guy put spray on them to loosen them up, and gave me good advice. I thought the deal was really good.

It turned out fine. The repair has been holding up. Communication was a little challenging at the time with the plumber.

I have never given a bad review to any of the vendors with whom I have contracted on Angie's list; this is my first. I recently had my kitchen remodeled through Home Depot. The remodeling guys did a great job, but I knew that I needed specialists for the plumbing. A Home Depot serviceman installed my new dishwasher, and gave me a price of $180 to come back and install the new sink and faucet that came with my remodeling job. He quoted me a price of $180, to do when he was back in my neighborhood. Because the date was uncertain, I renewed my membership with Angie's List to look for plumbers. The first thing I saw was a deal with Roto-Rooter Plumbing and Drain Service offering $250 worth of service for $79. Since I knew the job was doable for well under $250, I was delighted to be able to get a deal for $79. I called to see when they could come out, and they were able to schedule me for today. So I bought the Angie's List deal as we were talking. The plumber arrived quickly. He looked at the sink and faucet currently installed and at the new sink and faucet I wanted installed. He then announced, "that will be $650." I couldn't believe my ears. I had already paid $79 which was supposed to count as $250 toward any work. Thus, if I paid an additional $650 they would be quoting the job for $900! This is the same job the other plumber said he'd do for $180. I tried to explain all of this to the serviceman, but he didn't seem to hear -- or care. Finally, he went to call his manager, and I called the company directly. The woman I spoke with at the company said that the job actually cost $600, and I could then subtract the $250 from the coupon. But I would still be paying an additional $350 for a job that I knew could be done for several hundred dollars less. I cancelled the job. I have never experienced this kind of "bait and switch" tactic with companies from Angie's List, and hope never to, again.

The first tech tried to sell additional services that were much more than the "special deal" so we decided to do what was necessary to get the drain fixed which was almost double the cost of the deal. The first tech apparently did not snake the drain far enough because it was clogged again shortly after he left. When we called the next day they apologized and sent someone quickly. That tech was very good and fixed the drain.

The technician was very courteous and arrived within the allotted time span. He gave recommendations regarding how to avoid future problems and explained the warranty on the services performed.

The technician came within the time range provided. Technician was pleasant and respectful. Wore shoe covers before entering the home. Completed the work to my satisfaction. Will recommend this provider no problem.

They did a good job. They were highly skilled, punctual and professional. They were very meticulous.

.The process was very effective . The scheduler called to confirm the ETA of the Tech and the arrival time was met. Pricing was set and the tech was unaware of the $75 internet discount being advertised but provided the discount anyway without time consuming delays. The path of the underground drain was not easy to define and the tech used several techniques to discover the route of the drain line. He cleared the drain and made recommendations for future improvements that I could pursue which may avoid future problems and make any other drain clearing efforts easier. The tech was a good communicator which helped in resolving the problem quickly.
