My experience was very positive. My furnace had been serviced by this same firm for several years. During a routine inspection the technician found a crack in the liner which rendered the furnace inoperable due to safety concerns. The furnace was old and I knew it was at the end of it's life, but I still felt a bit over a barrel because I had to act quickly to get it replaced. I obtained four additional quotes from local contractors (the market is quite competitive) and found the AES quote to be fair and in line with quotes for equipment of comparable value. They worked with me to select the right equipment at the right price and I ultimately awarded the job to them. They completed the whole job in one day and did an excellent job. It was an easy decision to continue a maintenance agreement with AES for the new furnace and A/C. I would definitely recommend AES for service for replacement of home heating and A/C.

I had six different heating/cooling companies come out to my home to get recommendations and quotes for replacing our heating and cooling system. This was a somewhat complex job because of space limitations, and I also wanted to do some duct work which would not have been easy. Most of the companies didn't even give me a quote because they felt the job was too difficult. Many of the "home comfort specialists" who came out to my house came up with incorrect explanations for poor system performance and made awful recommendations (e.g. "put awnings over your windows to block sunlight" or "air conditioning doesn't work when it's above 92F outside"). The quotes I did get were not for exactly the type of system I wanted, and many emails went unanswered. After having such poor responses from other companies, I finally called ESA. My experience with them was the polar opposite. Mike was highly professional, responded immediately to emails and phone calls, and did not make excuses for why the job couldn't be done. Their price was reasonable as well. The workers seemed to know what they were doing, and their work was very neat. They cleaned up thoroughly after the job was finished. They did run into some issues that cause them not to finish on the first day, but they were able to reschedule fairly quickly to get the job done. Since it was at a time of year when we needed neither heat nor cooling, I didn't mind being without a system for a week. Overall, we're happy with our Carrier system. We haven't had a chance to use it much, but so far it works much better than the system it replaced, and it's so quiet you often don't even notice it's running. My recommendation: Don't waste time calling anyone else. If you need HVAC work, just call ESA.

I have used numerous heating and air conditioning companies in the past but none can compare to ESA. From sales to installation I received world class service. The salesman helped me decide which system best fit my needs even though it was not the most expensive one that they sold. The techs were prompt, friendly and more than willing to answer all my questions. After the installation was complete, they walked me through all the work that was performed and made sure that I understood the new controller. Since the controller has a touch screen that I wasn't familiar with, the tech went over and over all the features and happily answered all my questions. I couldn't have asked for a better experience.

We had had a service contract with Environmental Systems for two years. When we heard a boom outside, followed by a burst of smoke, we knew that our old air-conditioner had died. It was an easy matter to set up an appointment for a service call, and also easy to deal with the person who found the appropriate replacement for our system and quoted the cost. Installation was very smooth, and occurred in just four days of our first call. This happened in the middle of the worst heat wave of the summer, so we were very appreciative of the speed of delivery.

Our 2nd floor has always been warm in the summer. Got quotes from contractors ranging from $2,000 to $8,500 to improve the 2nd floor air flow, which I thought was a return problem. ESA said it was a supply problem and offered to seal the ducts for $470. It worked! +95 degree heat for the past week and the 2nd floor has been perfectly cool for the first time in 30 years. Smart guys.

I went to the local market and got other estimates. One company, highly rated on Angies list, came back with a better Carrier equipment option along with a better price. After 15 years with Enviromental I was happy with their bi-annual service but really put off by their pricing for the replacement units.
Description of Work: As part of my bi-annual service, I was told that my upstairs unit both the inside and outside condenser had to be replaced again. Seems because of industry change over from freon that both units had to be replaced. I was given three price options all of which were expensive.

They had replaced it three years ago. That, I didn't like. I've used them for years. This particular tech who came out, has been out here several times before. He is mild-mannered and polite but you can tell, he wants to get out of there. He doesn't really discuss things to the extent that he should. He is kind of dismissive and I don't like that. They were rated very highly in the Howard County magazine or something like that that used to come out. They come here on time. One thing that surprised me about them is, during all the snow - we had 3 ft of snow - I was very concerned about my heat pump. It was acting so strange and I couldn't get the emergency heat to come on and that's what this sequencer permitted the heat pump to do. It wasn't snowing any longer. It was a few days after that that they said they can never come out when there is snow on the ground because of liability. So I thought, "What will I do if the heat won't work?" The way the heat pump works with the sequencer is, if you go to emergency heat, it then shuts the heat pump off and it heats your house using some mechanism in the inside unit. It's more expensive and you should just do it for a few days until it's fixed. But, I didn't have that and I couldn't make it work. So I said, "I can see you have liabilities. Could you come out and just look at it?" It was making all these noises - it probably just had some ice chips in there or something - and fortunately it continued to work.
Description of Work: They had to replace something called the sequencer.

After having received two independent assessments of the state of our 26-yr old Trane system (coolant leak with repair costs between $800 and $2,000), I called Environmental Systems Associates (ESA) on Thursday to discuss a replacement. ESA did not do one of the two evaluations due to a long service backlog of nearly two weeks; however, we have had good experience with them in the past and wanted them to bid on the job. I got a call back from the Vice President, Michael Hendricks, not long thereafter. We scheduled an on-site appointment at my convenience for that same afternoon. Michael was on-time, professionally-dressed, and conducted himself very well and politely. I stress the importance of this to me because I had a less than stellar experience earlier that week. After taking measurements and providing us options for a Carrier 3-ton 36k BTU SEER16 replacement unit, Michael quoted a ballpark of $4,000 to $4,500. The written proposal I received the next morning came in just shy of the $4,500 ballpark ceiling. We had the option of two Carrier units and opted for the Performance series. We asked Michael about an estimated installation date as he originally informed us of an installation backlog of nearly ten days; however, he did have an opening the next day (Saturday) that we could not make work with our schedule. To our delight, on Monday Michael informed us that the unit could be installed the following day. Start to finish, this process by a reputable and professional company only took four business days. We asked for a heads-up call to leave work in time and received that call exactly 45-minute before the crew arrived at exactly the time in the afternoon we were informed of. I cannot imagine better punctuality. The two technicians were very friendly, worked very cleanly, and finished the job within a few hours. Everything was completed to our satisfaction. We want to thank Michael and his team for exceptional, timely, and professional service. We are looking forward to having ESA's technicians at our house to service our HVAC regularly in the future.

They do a good job. They take care of me on a timely basis and you are dealing with a fairly substantive firm where the owners are actively involved. So when you have a problem you are not dealing with a corporate entity which is so big.

I bought 2 humidifier evaporation panels from them. I drove to their offices- close to my home, brought them homes and installed them myself. I usually have my HVAC contractor provide and install them but their heating season system checkup got delayed several times and we wanted to get the humidifier working before they could get to us.

ESA was absolutely fantastic from start to finish. We received three quotes, one that was significantly higher, and another that was a couple hundred dollars cheaper than our quote from ESA. However, the sales person was significantly more professional and thorough in his examination of our existing system. He explained that our utility room was too small to not have any ventilation and pointed out several other details that the other sales people either failed to notice or mention. Amending these problems was included in the installation. He also provided a clearer and more detailed explanation of how our new system would work. I appreciated the attention to detail enough to spend a little extra by going with ESA over our cheapest estimate. The technicians were very friendly and professional. They showed up at the time I was told they would arrive and they worked quickly and cleaned up nicely before they left. I was provided with a thorough explanation of our new thermostat and given an overview of our new system. Everyone involved displayed an exemplary level of professionalism. I would highly recommend them and plan to use them for any services required in the future.

The crew acted like part of a family-owned company, relaxed yet quality-oriented. The crew seemed a bit large. I guess they need all the help they can get carrying the heating units in and out. When some of the crew wasn't directly engaged in the installation they tried not to be idle. They walked around and sealed all the vents in the house. The quoted price was $10K lower than B&B for nearly the same system. The crew arrived on time and finished on time. They found a broken humidifier pipe and weren't sure if they broke it during installation or if it was already broken, so they decided to own that and provide a free replacement. Overall it was a really great experience.

It was very good. The price was very reasonable. The cost was for the whole year, and for 4 units, the heat pump, furnace, air handler in the attic, and the other air handle outside. I called around, and I relied on Angie's List. They had a solid A rating on Angie's List. The fact that they are a local company made a difference. It was a combination of price, customer service and job satisfaction. Their price was very competitive, and they made me aware of discounts that were available to customers, and when the discounts were going to be available. They are a great company to work with. They were responsive, they were here when they said they were going to be here, they got the job done quickly, and they were out of the door in a reasonable time frame for the job they had to do.
