Very good experience. The repairman was knowledgeable, professional, and gave tips on how to prevent problems from occurring again in future. He fixed what he could -- for a reasonable price -- and recommended a contact to fix the root venting problem. In addition, scheduling was prompt and easy.

I was able to make an appointment for a few days after the call. On the day of the appointment I called and was given a 2-hr window between 2:30 and 4:30, and the technician arrived at 2:30. He found the problem immediately(saying that he had been "lucky" in doing so). He made sure that max extract worked by running it once.

It went wonderfully. They came when they said they would, they did their work very great. Someone else had come out and said it couldn't be repaired. John from this company came out and was able to fix it. He was very knowledgeable about ovens and this oven in particular.

Alco was great. We called because our fridge was leaking and they scheduled us within the week. The technician was on time and seemed like he knew the problem right off the bat, it turned out an old wrapper was blocking a vent. He was great at explaining what was wrong and showing us how to fix it next time. I think their rates are extremely reasonable and I have never had an issue scheduling them within the week for help. I would definitely use them again and I'm super glad I have their number on file!

I called ALCO since they came highly recommended on Angie's List. I left a message on their answering machine and someone returned my call within the hour. I made an appointment for the following week, and Jason arrived promptly at the scheduled time. He removed the 'cover' over the freezer portion and determined that the fan was working, but the defrost thermostat was faulty. He replaced the thermostat (described as a defrost bi-metal on my invoice). The process involved pouring tap water over the iced areas, which resulted in quite a bit of water dripping onto the floor. Jason asked for a towel, and cleaned it up. The refrigerator continued to drip water about another 30 minutes after Jason left, but I just kept a towel on the floor. The refrigerator was back to normal within about 12 hours. As for the door stop, Jason noted that the door stop was actually there, but had not been adjusted properly, so he adjusted it.

It took a week to get them in to check my old washing machine and another week to get replacement washing machine. The repair guy was polite, professional, and offered several options (washing machine conveyed when I bought house in April, though only 2005 model it was no longer under warranty). The delivery was quite late, but the installation crew was polite, kept me informed by phone and walked through how to use the new machine after installation.

First, the owner ordered the part I requested without having come to the house beforehand. This was the first time a repair company trusted my evaluation of a needed part. He arrived on time, replaced the part, billed only for the part and time required to install, and was very nice. Every repair service should work like this!

I had a really good experience. I chose this company because of the many recommendations on Angie's List. John was the repairman that came out and I think that he was the man that most people had talked about on the ratings. Alco was very helpful and I think that the price was really good for service on two refrigerators.

It went very, very well. They got it done very quickly and it was reasonable pricing. They were punctual and I would definitely recommend them to others.

MY TENANTS LOVE THEM TOO! THEY HAVE REPAIRED SEVERAL DRYERS. THEY HAVE INSTALLED SEVERALSTACK WASH MACHINES FOR ME. THEY HANDLE EVERYTHING. I JUST GIVE THEM MY CREDIT CARD. (I HAVE SEVERAL APARTMENT UNITS AND REALLY APPRECIATE THE CONVENIENCE.) THEY ALWAYS TELL YOU IF AN APPLIANCE IS WORTH SAVING OR IF THE APPLIANCE HAS SEEN ITS USEFUL LIFE. I FIND THAT THEY ARE ALWAYS VERY TRUTHFUL EVEN IF IT IS NOT TO THEIR BENEFIT.

They came bad and did a quick repair job. Professional and courteous.

Very good, received a call in advance, as well as the tenant about when to expect the repairman. They were prompt, worked clean with no interruption to the day. Tenant was very happy that they came on time. I was surprised that they billed me which was good.

I found John to be extremely informative and knowledgeable about appliances, which inspired a great degree of confidence. The installation crew (Kurt and Paul, I think) were also very professional, prompt, and friendly. While I hope none of my appliances break down anytime soon, when they do, I'll definitely use Alco again.

Just as I was getting ready to leave on vacation, my 21-year-old General Electric washing machine stopped dead in the middle of a load. I absolutely did not have time that week to research, shop for, and arrange delivery of a new unit; I just wanted my old one up and running quickly. I needed clean clothes for vacation! I called my fabulous regular appliance guy; he couldn't fit me into his schedule that week, but he recommended that I call Alco. I sure am glad I did--everything about Alco was terrific. They responded to my call immediately and scheduled a service appointment for the very next day. They provided a 2-hour appointment window, and the technician, Jason, showed up right on time. Jason was terrific--friendly, courteous, careful, thorough, and very very knowledgeable. He immediately diagnosed the problem and set about solving it. He did not try to pressure me into buying a new machine, despite the age of my machine and despite the fact that Alco does sell new appliances. Alco is clearly a company that understands the value of keeping good appliances running as long as possible. Jason was straightforward and generous about sharing information; he described the condition of the machine's other components, explained how I would know when it really was time to replace the unit, and provided helpful suggestions about what to consider when I do buy a new washer. The icing on the cake: the entire visit was only $135. When I went back through my records, I saw that I'd had the exact same job (replacing water pump) done by a different company eight years ago--for $165! No wonder Washington Consumer Checkbook gives Alco its check rating for both quality and value. I am very happy with my experience with this company and will definitely call them again--and will probably buy my next washing machine from them when the time finally comes.

After having 2 other repair persons (both with ratings of A on the list and both of whom were nice and seemed knowledgeable and one of whom we had used before for a different appliance). John, from Alco, came to repair our 8 year old built-in Kitchenaide. Refrigerator/bottom drawer freezer. The problem was that the fridge part was not cooling. After manually defrosting it at the suggestion of the first person to come out, the fridge worked for about 4 weeks. He said that the problem was in the defrost system or a freon leak or obstruction and that he couldn't fix that. The second person to come out basically said the same thing and that, even though he was listed as repairing Kitchenaide units, he could not fix it. Both of these first responders said that the entire sealed system would likely have to be replaced or repaired and that the job would be large enough that we should consider replacing the unit. After pricing new built-in units of the necessary size, we decided to give repairing it just one more shot. We ended up being very glad that we did. When John from Alco came out, he immediately diagnosed the problem as a broken temperature gauge (a $12.00 part). He replaced it in a matter of minutes. Then, seeing that we do not use our automatic ice machine, he offered to safely disconnect it so we would have more room. In addition, he improved a crooked freezer door that had been a design defect of the unit from the beginning, but which we had been unable to force Kitchenaide to place. So, John performed three projects during the one visit. He knew immediately what the problems were and how to fix them. He had the necessary part in the truck. He was pleasant and gave me lots of good information about the refrigerator and how to care for it. Finally, when I asked about getting a replacement for a dishwasher part, John gave me the number of an appliance parts company (Tribbles) and told me what part to ask for to fix my dishwasher. John was a godsend!

Called to make an appointment on Monday. Was told to call back Wednesday at 10am for a specific time window that day. Wednesday morning, was told the service call would happen between 2-4pm. At 4pm, with no tech in sight, worriedly called the office and got voice mail. Left a message. At 4:05, received a return call saying the tech was running late, but not sure how late. Was encouraged to call tech's cell phone and leave a message. Got halfhearted apology when I mentioned I was a new customer. John called from the field at 4:25 and said he was on his way. He arrived a few minutes before 5:00. Dismantled the dryer quickly, diagnosed the problem, and had the proper parts. He was courteous and knowledgeable, giving us some history on the dryer and the news that it could last another 15-20 years if properly maintained. I don't know how competitive the price was, but it beats buying another dryer and trying to yank the old one out of the basement. I'd use them again.

We were thinking of replacing the dishwasher because it's older, but he told us we had a really great brand of dishwasher and that we should just repair it rather than replace it. We appreciated his honesty because they do sell appliances, but he was giving an honest opinion.

Came when he said he would, performed the work quickly and kept it simple, and told me there's a safety recall on the dishwasher (which was not being serviced). Very good experience.

This is a very professional organization. The person who answered my call was very patient and honest. They do not give a time frame but you need to call the day the maintenance is scheduled to get your window. They gave me a 2 hour window which worked out perfectly.

Alco was easy to schedule and came on the date they agreed. They brought the parts that were likely necessary and determined in about 5 minutes that the problem was actually the front panel, rather than the main circuit board. We scheduled a new appointment right there and Jason came back out with the right part one week later. The replacement took another 5 minutes and the oven works great. Jason was extremely easy to work with and we scheduled another appointment for another appliance on the spot.

John was simply fantastic. I called on a Monday, hoping to have someone come to Capitol Hill to assess a problem with our 17-year-old stackable washer and dryer. We weren't sure what was happening, but the circuit breaker controlling the dryer was engaging after only a few minutes of use. We thought we had an overheating problem or an electrical problem or that we might have to replace the washer/dryer entirely. John was able to fit us in the next day and arrived not just on time, but early. He quickly identified the problem (a loose wire) and fixed it. Then he did a quick check of the washer and also repaired a minor problem he saw there. We were delighted with John's professionalism, attention to detail and fantastic service. We would highly recommend John and Alco Appliance for anyone with appliance repair needs.

Appointment was easy to make and time request was honored. John was prompt, pleasant, and attentive to the problem I described. He explained the probable cause of standing water in the base of the dishwasher, then checked all possibilities to be sure there was no problem with the machine. Ultimately, he adjusted the feet on the front of the dishwasher to better facilitate drainage and assured me the machine was in good working order. He charged me only the $55 diagnostic/service charge, even though he spent a full hour checking the dishwasher out. Will definitely use this company again!

Fridge was not cold enough. I called they came out two days later to look at the fridge, they made a few adjustments and now its working fine.

They are polite and fun. They are very accommodating.

Another company was recommended by Jenn-Air to perform the work. They did not show up and did not call at the appointed time. I found Alco on Angie's List and called them because of their excellent reports. I was satisfied with every aspect of the experience, from the initial phone call to the performance of the work. Jason was the service technician who came to do the work. He told me right away that the parts would be covered by warranty, which surprised me as the range is two years old. Consequently, I only had to pay for the labor of the installation. Everyone I dealt with was professional, courteous, and expert in their responsibilities.
