Description of Work: *I am locked into a service contract which is the reason I will use them again. | | |Purchased a big deal for $89 in Jan 2013. Upon inspection & work performed, was offered a 5 year service contract for $2188 which included the work performed that day. The technician was there for a couple of hours, very professional, sincere & really made me feel good about Sila & was looking for a long positive vendor relationship. Total out of pocket was $89 plus $2188 = $2277. |In August, I contacted them to check out my AC. At that time I was informed that the service contract that I had purchased did not include my entire HVAC unit - only the heat. Needless to say I felt duped. But as I was already in a "service" contract for heat, I decided to have my AC reviewed by Sila if Angie was running a big deal with Sila. "Fortunately" ( or so I thought) there was a special offer for AC tune ups. The Technician arrived on time and was very professional. He also offered a service contract, so I considered it. The cost was $2004. I purchased it and the technician left. I put the paperwork with the other service contract & noticed this contract was for 3 years & not 5 years. I called Sila immediately & asked if it was a mistake & was told they no longer offer 5 year contracts. I requested a cancellation. It took a while, I did get a refund of $1083. ( keep in my out of pocket for this date was $1010 ($921 + $89 for the big deal). As I wanted for my records a detailed invoice since the Big Deal included "x" I wanted to know what cost $921? 10 months later, & several emails & calls, I have not received the details I requested. | |I am still irked about the Full Service Plan invoice received in January 2013 whereby it states "terms of full service plan" and both the Cooling System & Heating System is included. : ( | | | | | |was told originally "everything is covered - even if you want us to come out & changed your filters on a monthly basis, we'll do it) | | |

Dear Angie`s List Member, First off I would like to apologize for any mis-communication or delay you have experienced regarding this issue. I have pulled your file and took a look at everything in more detail. To be clear it is 100% correct that we no longer offer 5 year service plans and that was put into affect after your service call in January. To clarify your visit in January: the service plan your purchased on your heating system which totaled $978 (for the service plan portion only) does specify in the upper right hand corner that the agreement type is for the furnace only. To clarify your visit last August: the service plan your purchased totaled $1,083 (which was credited). You paid a total of $2,004 and the remainder cost of $921 was for installation of the humidity removal pump with safety interlock, the installation of a trap assembly to create drainage clean out, and chemically washing the outdoor unit. I am glad we were able to credit you the $1,083 for the AC service plan and I hope this response clarifies everything a little better. I would be happy to scan and email the service tickets we have on file which explains exactly what I stated in this response for your records. Please feel free to call the office at 781-438-4114 and ask for Marisa who is the Service Plan Manager and we can email everything in question over to you. To be clear the service plan you have on the heating system covers all parts and all labor, 24 hour emergency service, and a seasonal maintenance and inspection. The terms and conditions should be spelled out on the back of your service plan copy. Description of Work: Had Sila come out to service A/C and check on odd rattle. I was able to schedule the day after I called, though the technical did arrive right at the end of the scheduled window. The rattle was fixed just by slightly shifting a duct, but the service uncovered wear and tear on the outdoor condenser that added up to roughly $1,000. (I postponed some additional recommended service.) | |In general, I'm happy with the service, since as far I could tell, the needs were legitimate. Nevertheless, every time I've had Sila come out, they've uncovered some additional problem with the system beyond what I called about.

Description of Work: Sila repaired a frozen pipe. They charged us a fixed rate for the parts but $180/hour for labor. We've never heard of a company doing this. Either the job is a flat rate for the whole thing, or the parts & labor are itemized. When we asked for an itemized list of the parts, the technician became very defensive and argumentative. After several follow up calls and emails to the office, we got the list and disputed the exorbitant mark-up on parts. The office manager was more reasonable to deal with and ultimately met us half way on the price. We understand companies have overhead, but that's why they charge labor. The technician had also insisted on replacing valves that were part of unaffected zones because he said once the system was drained and refilled, the types of valves in place would leak. This added a couple hours to the job. Like another reviewer posted, they always seem to find something else to fix.

We explain to every customer up front on the phone that we charge $89 to have a technician come out to the home which covers the first 15 minutes and then we bill at $180/hour for any labor. I am sorry that this was not what you had expected when we can out to your home for the repair. All of our repairs or replacement jobs are priced out as a package and are not broken out by parts & labor. We do have a lot of confidence in the technician that came out to your home as he is our top service manager so I do believe to some extent you were in good hands. I am glad to hear in that in the end you were able to find a solution with the manager, receive the breakout, and got some money back in your pocket. We appreciate this review and will do our best to communicate all pricing on the front end better to avoid any mis-communication. Best, The Sila Team

Description of Work: Replaced failed split system heat pump. Removed old unit, installed new unit, ran a new line set, checked the system out. All the necessary electrical wiring and line set holes were already there from older unit. Considering this, I expected a lower price for the install. However, they did a good job.

Description of Work: Sila came out for one of the Angie's List deals to flush the hot water heater. We found corrosion and rather than risk having a full-blown leak at some later time, I opted to replace my existing conventional electric water heater with an energy-efficient heat-pump water heater for which there was a state rebate program. Instead of scheduling an appointment for later, he ordered the new water heater right then and there, took delivery and installed it over the next six hours (it was more complicated to install then a regular hot water heater). And when I called up later to have the invoice revised to reflect costs in a more detailed way, for purposes of the rebate, the folks in the billing department were very courteous and professional in handling my request. Overall, a very good experience, even allowing for the fact that I spent far more money than expected when I arranged for them to come out!

Description of Work: I had Sila come out to tune up our steam heat boiler in December, and I also wanted them to look into cleaning out the sight glass, which was accumulating rust, and give me a quote on replacing some boiler piping, which was in poor condition. They were very friendly and professional. They were also quite expensive. In the end, they did a very good job with the pipe repair, and I'm quite happy with that. Unfortunately, they also insisted I had to replace the sight glass as well as use a cleaning solution for the boiler to clean out the system; in the end, the new sight glass appears to have more rust in it than the previous one, so I'm not sure I'm in any better shape there. I've waited a number of months following the visit (as they said it would take awhile for the cleaning solution to work), and it's still full of rust. But I love the new piping!

Description of Work: I contacted Sila for a tuneup/inspection of my heating and cooling systems. The initial price quoted for the service was fair. The air conditioner needed to be replaced and they did an excellent job doing the work. They were great about cleaning up, as well. | |My one negative comment - a year later I was sent an invoice for 'annual' insurance for the air conditioning unit that was very expensive (after the manufacturer's 1 year warranty expired). So much for a reasonable service contract. It really has turned me off the company and I'm looking for someone else to due routine service now.

Description of Work: They did the job but they cancelled on me twice. Both times they were supposed to come at 7AM and I took days off of work for their appointment. Then they cancelled the day before once at 5PM and another at 6 PM. The Angie's List The big deal was about to expire by the time someone was about to come over. Purchased in 10/2013 and work was done 5/2014. On the big deal it said to give them a range of dates to do the job but I got an email that stated they don't schedule like that. Then why list it that way on the Angie's list The Big Deal.
