Description of Work: I had the furnace cleaned at the end of January. Not much of a bargain when the tech discovers you need a multitude of repairs. Since the estimate was not totaled, I mistakenly underestimated the cost of the repair. The original tech also knew I had recently spent a large amount of money on a driveway replacement, I could not help but feel he felt I would replace my entire plumbing and heating system. Specifically, the furnace and water heater. The first tech was supposedly stuck in Hawaii for weeks, therefore a second tech arrived for the repairs to the furnace. I was told this would take 4 hours. Upon arrival, the tech immediately told me I needed a water heater and he could do it right now, it was 1pm. There was nothing emergent regarding the heater, it was not leaking, cracked, and should a replacement been needed this should have been mentioned during the cleaning. I got a price and RAN upstairs. After an hour, the tech appeared with the invoice, I was perplexed having been told this was a longer appointment and that Carbon monoxide would build up in my basement without these repairs. I do have detectors. Upon questioning the tech told me, he was told to collect that much. When I produced the estimate, he negotiated a lower price and left. OBVIOUSLY did not need all those repairs......I cannot help but feel he would not pull this on a male homeowner!!!!!!!!!!! I called Sila and spoke with someone named Jake very unresponsive.

We do apologize for the confusion that may have been caused since the original technician that made all of these recommendations was away in Hawaii when you decided to move forward with the work. Our Manager did offer to have the original technician come back to your home when he arrived home to go over all the work we completed for you so that you would have a sense of assurance. You did not move forward with this offer, but if that ever changes we will be happy to have the original technician come out to your home any time because as I mentioned earlier your satisfaction is our main goal. Description of Work: I got the impression that they were finding items that did not need fixing. The prices on two items that they said should be improved were very expensive. My son who is a union plumber said the prices were high. I could be wrong but I had the impression that they were looking for stuff to hit the home owner with. Not stuff that NEEDED to be done to maintain overall integrity of the heating system. But I "could" be wrong.

Description of Work: It was almost like a "bait and switch". I used them to drain my hot water tank and was told that it needed to either be replaced or rebuilt. I had purchased a top of the line heater 9 years ago and was told that with my use, I could easily get 15 years out of it, so I was surprised. I was also told that the expansion tank needed replacing. I said that I thought that was serviced by my heating company. | "Brian" was scheduled to return a couple days later in the morning (9-12) to complete the work. I had heard nothing by noon and went down to copy information from the tank, when I noticed the original paper work attached to unit. |A replacement person arrived shortly after 2:00, but in that time I read the warranty. It did state that the tank was warranted for 12 years. I told the workman to hold off on the water heater but to go ahead with the expansion tank. At that time, I called the company who had originally installed my Maytag heater, Central Plumbing in Wakefield, MA. |I gave "John" all the details of my heater, which he looked up. After a couple of questions: How much use does the heater get? Do you go away for any part of the year? (Answers, Not much, just one person; I go away for 6 months), it came back to me why I had chosen that heater and why I expected it to last much longer. |I decided that I would have Central Plumbing evaluate my tank and if something needs to be replaced, I will have them do it. |As far as Sila is concerned, I paid a $650. deposit on $440. worth of work plus a $45. charge for changing a shower head (on the wrong shower!). Fortunately he didn't use plumber's tape so I could unscrew it easily. |Also, I asked that the expansion tank be left behind because I thought it would be helpful in analyzing the type of corrosion done by our local water. It was not left. | |I think people need to be responsible consumers and I certainly try, but it irks me greatly when someone takes advantage. When I saw the $45. charge to change a shower head, I knew I had the wrong company!

Description of Work: HVAC maintenance. I requested that they come between 12PM and 2PM, but they showed up at 9AM instead (it was the day before the blizzard, so I guess I can understand). Once they are here, they did a tremendous job servicing and inspecting my HVAC systems. They are detailed, professional, and the quality of service is superb. I definitely recommend them.

Description of Work: Replaced furnace with new unit. Old one was leaking carbon monoxide and wasn't installed properly. Sila did an amazing job and even installed an additional return vent giving the furnace a lot more power than our previous unit. House heats up very quick now.
