Both service techs that worked on our furnace were quick, efficient and professional. They explained everything and worked without needing oversight. The work was performed in less than an hour and tested multiple times to prevent them from needing to come back. We were so happy that we bought a service plan with them with includes a yearly cleaning, part and labor for ANY problems. It is only ~$40 than their in season cleaning cost. This is an AMAZING deal which includes night and weekend service calls. It is great to know that we are completely covered by a company we can trust.
Description of Work: We originally called Sila to diagnose why the furnace in our new home was not kicking on. They were able to send a service person to diagnose the problem within a couple of days. This wasn't a problem since the temperature was warm and we were in no hurry. The initial diagnose was achieved in about 15 minutes. The induction motor was fried. The tech tested all the connections and made sure the part was receiving the proper power, so that he wouldn't have to make multiple trips. He said the part would be ordered and they would give us a call with an install date. The part was delayed a couple of days, which wasn't a big deal again because of the lack of urgency. We had to cancel the intial install appointment due to the birth of our first son, but Sila was very understanding. They rescheduled for the day we got home from the hospital. The install was done and met their estimate.

My first home was serviced. I had asked for the head technician to service my properties, John, who came. He ended up taking a couple of parts, turning the furnace off, and telling the tenant (who has lung cancer) that the furnace was unusable. He was difficult to understand when he spoke, so there was some confusion on what was really going on with the furnace. The tenant had an understanding that the furnace was giving off CO2, and that he had turned it off without asking. He then left a sign on it that alluded us to “not use” it. This was unusual. He had given the tenant a verbal estimate of what it would cost to replace the furnace, alluding that that would be necessary. When I talked with him, I got the understanding that the furnace “could” give off the CO2. I do have C02 detectors in the home. I had called him about the furnace being turned off, and still he didn’t mention that he had taken parts. I am amazed he had taken parts, without asking or informing either the tenant or me. John told me the furnace needed to be replaced and the earliest time I could have this done was a week later, after the furnace had already been turned off. Then he said he could probably do it Friday. I told him to hold me a spot until I got backed to him. At that time, he asked for my credit information, which I did not offer. About 30 minutes later, he called and left a message the price for incorrect on his estimate. He did not even specify if his price was too high or too low. After that, he called to say our price estimate was correct and that he’d been confused. I was suspicious so I called a service provider I’d used previously. This provider thought I was being overcharged for the replacement of my furnace. This provider is installing a new furnace today. The next day, John followed up with me to see if I wanted him to come on Friday. I have yet to call him back. They were responsive, but we were very disturbed. The tenant in the home is very ill, and really needs the heat. It was disturbing that he left her with no option, and made us think this issue was immediate. However, he couldn’t even come replace it for over a week because they were too busy. They really need to talk with the occupant of the home before turning off the furnace and make sure they understand what the situation is.

I apologize that you didn’t have a good experience working with Sila. I already contacted Angie’s list and they are going to give you a full refund for the (2) coupons you purchased. Since your tenant has cancer I realize it’s a very sensitive situation and again I apologize that you weren’t happy working with us. I’m going to try to help explain the events that took place to hopefully provide a better understanding. When John was doing the maintenance on your furnace he found that the heat exchanger was cracked which is a sign that CO2 could be leaking in your house and under no conditions should the system be operated till the situation is addressed. This is very standard throughout the industry that when a furnace is no longer safe to operate that you “tag” the equipment notifying that it shouldn’t be turned on and if it does it’s going against our professional opinion and we are no longer responsible if something happened as a result running the furnace that was deemed unsafe. I also think there is some confusion in regards to John taking parts from the furnace which I strongly believe is not the case. When he found the crack in the heat exchanger John didn’t screw all the parts fully back in place making it easier to dismantle when the replacement/repair took place. The heat exchanger is in the middle of the furnace and it takes some time to access which explains why some screws/bolts were left out. John should have communicated this better to your tenant. In regards to trying to get the furnace replacement scheduled John asked me when the next opening was and I told him the week of 10/10. John then mentioned that is was a very sensitive situation since the tenant is sick and I immediately called the customer that we were scheduled to work for on Friday and asked if we could push then out to accommodate your needs. They agreed and then we determined that Friday 10/7 was the earliest we could install the new furnace. I apologize if you were unhappy with our response but I can honestly say we tried to accommodate your needs in a timely fashion. Not only did the two gentlemen (Jarrod and Bobby) show up early for their appointment (and called ahead of time to let me know they would be early), but they were extremely personable and professional. They explained everything they were doing step by step, which is huge for a single woman who doesn't understand any of this stuff. The men were tidy, cleaned up after themselves, offered to dispose of the dirty filter they removed, and made sure that I was completely satisfied with their services every step of the way. Found Sila on Angie's and selected them based on their rating and the Big Deal Coupon. Contacted Sila and spoke with Jake to set up service. Jake was very professional, outlined the conditions of service, and answered all my questions. Unfortunately, the technician?s prior service call took longer than expected and he wasn't able to arrive until an hour after the scheduled window. However, Jake did call to let me know this before the scheduled arrival time ended. The technician, Jarrod, was very apologetic for being late and immediately started working. Jarrod was exceptionally professional and very informative. Aside from the service and replacement of one part, Jarrod provided me with several tips to maximize the efficiency and performance of the furnace and hot water heater. Excellent job all around. I am very pleased with Sila. The company was very responsive and punctual about setting up service calls. In all, they came twice. The problem wasn't fixed after the first time so they came back and did not charge me a full fee the second time. Jerrod, the technician on my case, was very thorough and did an excellent job of searching for the problem. He was also very nice and careful with my home. The only negative about Sila is that they aren't cheap, but I'd rather pay for quality for than the alternative.

Our scheduled service was moved up by approx. an hour. I received a call from the office to see if it was OK to arrive early than scheduled, which was great. Our technician Jarred went through basement and attic looking at our systems. Our second floor AC had not been working. The drip pan was filled with water and had caused the motor lead to "short". Jarred fixed the wiring and it was working again. We had a few small annoyances with toilets etc which he was able to fix in short order. He explained everything he was doing and made certain I knew how to get the optimum use of the AC and how it was designed to work. We had a fantastic experience both with the office and our technician Jarred. Very polite and knowledgeable.

They had a deal on Angie’s List. The price was like half off. My air conditioning had already been checked, but I wanted the guy to check the furnace, which is what they said that they would do. He checked the system and confirmed a problem that I have with the way it was set up. He did as much as he could do. He was very polite. At some point, my furnace needs to be moved and I was confirming that because I wasn’t happy with my former provider. As a result of the Angie’s List service and through the deal, I would use them always going forward. I think he charges more than I would normally pay, but I think he is worth it.

Upon calling the company to schedule my appointment, I quickly was connected to a real person (versus those awful automated systems) and was able to schedule it for two days later. Jarrod and Bobby arrived within the two hour window I was provided. They both put protective shoe covers on to keep my floors clean, which I appreciated. They both were extremely friendly and weren't bothered by the fact that I wanted to stay and watch what they were doing to learn more about my home's heating system. Jarrod and Bobby were professional, explained things to me in a manner which I could understand and ensured all of my questions were answered. They made recommendations to have a piece of copper piping replaced due to corrosion, but didn't pressure me one bit to have it done by their company, which I appreciated. They cleaned up after themselves, provided me with a write-up of the work performed and their contact information and thanked me for using their company. I will definitely use Sila Heating & Air Conditioning again.

I am disappointed in this response.

Sila rocks! Jarrod is excellent and you should request him! Sila was the 3rd company to visit me regarding AC that did not blow cold. First company said there was a small leak that they could not find and did not have the proper equipment to find it. They ended up putting way too much R-22 into the system. Second company tested system for pressure but did not also look at temperature in the supply and return lines. They misdiagnosed the problem as a leak, and wanted to charge something like $1800 to find and fix it, not including the cost of parts. Crazy. Jarrod came from Sila and was really excellent. He said things like "I tell my boss to give me the hard problems because I like a challenge." He was very competent, professional, and even good with my 20 month old son, closing doors behind him and the like. His knowledge of my system and what was likely to go wrong with it was very good. He found a valve that was covered by warrantee and replaced it, properly diagnosing that I actually had no leak, and explained everything that he was doing. I would HIGHLY recommend him. I should mention that the person I spoke with a Sila said that Jarrod was one of their best, so I can't speak for the other technicians who work there and their level of skill.

The rep was punctual and has been very responsive to my inquires. However, I specifically asked to be quoted for 2 configurations: 1) 85% efficiency to capture the rebates and to qualify for the HEAT loan program 2) 90% + efficiency just to compare and to see if it was at all reasonable. The tech came to the house and did measurements by the square footage of the house. Since I am not changing my radiators, I now know this was the wrong way to size the system. The radiators should have been measured for capacity and output instead of a square footage measurement. When I did get the quote back, I was shocked that he priced me in the highest efficiency boiler 95% and the boiler alone was $16,000, and another $2,000 for a hot water tank. He stated in his note to me that he could not find boilers in an efficiency range of 85%. I now know that's not true. Additionally, he stated that he found a 90% efficient system, but to go to 95% was "only a few hundred dollars more". I responded to his quote and I noted that this was VERY far outside my price range. He said that the best he could do was 80-83% efficient boilers - that's not true as I mentioned before - and therefore, I wouldn't qualify for rebates or the HEAT loan program. Needless to say, I felt like my desires were not met, I was "being sold" on something that I didn't need, and that the rep was inexperienced. After 2 additional quotes from more experienced individuals, I now know that I can get exactly what I want (85% efficiency boiler with new indirect hot water tank) for about half what Sila quoted me.

I was very pleased with the work that Jarrod did. He worked very hard and explained everything he was doing as he did it. He also answered all my questions. He was very neat and very careful and even removed his boots when he came back in from outside. My air conditioning is now cooling my condo the way it's supposed to. I would definitely use Sila Heating and Air Conditioning for my future heating and air conditioning needs and am happy to recommend the company based on the positive experience I had with their excellent technician, Jarrod, who is to be commended.
Description of Work: My first-floor central air conditioning stopped working, and the condensate pump overflowed during our very hot summer. I called Sila Heating & Air Conditioning based on the excellent feedback the company had received on Angie's List. I called early in the morning and was told a technician could come out between 12 and 2 pm. A few minutes before 12, Jake called to say that Jarrod was on his way. Jarrod arrived a few minutes later. He was very polite, friendly, efficient and explained everthing he was doing. He cleared the drain lines, replaced the filters and replaced the condensate pump, which was not working properly. He also checked the refrigerant, which was low and added the needed additional refrigerant. Before he left, he checked the temperatures to be sure everything was working correctly.

I bought a coupon from Angie's List for maintenance on my AC. It wasn't working and I didn't know why. The serviceman, Jarrod, came out and realized the circuit breaker had been tripped and was in the halfway position so I hadn't realized it had tripped. He found that the relay switch in the furnace might be bad. He noticed that my VERY old furnace needed a good cleaning and that could be contributing to the poor output from the AC. To make a long story short, he checked the AC unit, cleaned out the furnace and checked the duct work. (My condo manager was impressed when he saw Jarrod outside cleaning a very dirty piece of the furnace. He mentioned that he had never seen another serviceman do this and asked for his business card. Jarrod was here for over two hours and I paid a little more for this call than just the maintenance coupon. He let me know in advance the pricing policy and was very clear about all the costs. He was very friendly, professional and patient explaining everything he was doing. A few days later I notice that the ciruit breaker was tripped again and asked for another serviceman to come out. John, the senior serviceman came out and said it was either the relay switch or a problem with the breaker itself. He suggested I get an electrician to come out and check it. I was not charged for the second call.

Jared quickly identified the problem and systematically walked through the possible causes and solutions. He also looked for other red flags that might have caused us problems in the future. It was clear that he has been doing this work for a while as he understood how HVAC works on much more than a superficial level. After resolving the issue, Jared identified the likely root cause and addressed it. Jared also noticed a flaw in the original installation (two wires from a pump overflow switch that had not been connected) and quickly fixed that as well. After the work was complete, the leak was not only fixed, but I was blown away by the increased level of airflow that my HVAC unit was now pushing out (no pun intended)! I expect my electric bill to go down next month as a result. Jared was capable, experienced, professional, efficient, thoughtful, and incredibly thorough. It was a pleasure to see him work, and learn a little bit more than I knew before about A/C. He really seems to enjoy what he does, and it shows in the quality of his work. Highly recommended.
