Sila Heating, Cooling, Plumbing and Electrical

Steve from Sila came by to give us an estimate on a high-velocity central A/C system within a day of my contacting them via the Web site. We have an 1898 timber-frame, shingle-style Victorian with lots of nooks and crannies across three floors, so it presented a few challenges. Steve had such a good understanding of how to approach the installation -- air handler and outlet placements, access strategies, etc -- that I had a good feeling about the project from the start. The crew (two installers & project manage) came precisely on time, during the first real heat wave of the summer, and simply attacked the project. Which begin in the attic. Which was really HOT. These were brave men, snaking the insulated air tubes through the tightest and most hidden of spaces and channel to install high-velocity outlets at optimal locations in each room on the third and second floors. Impressive! The biggest challenge was present ed by the master bedroom on, well, a sleeping porch outside the original exterior structure of the porch. The room called for four outlets, buts the post-and-beam construction made getting just two out there a challenge. And to get the second out required an exposed pipe traversal that would required boxing in to hide it (apparently this is pretty common in these kinds of projects). We decided to take a wait-and-see approach to this room to see how it cooled-down in over the next week or two.The upper unit was completed in a few days; the installed air-handler was a thing of beauty, with nearly 20 air tubes snaking their way into the plenum. As the heat wave backed off a bit, naturally the work moved to the cellar to install the first-floor outlets. Another beautifully laid out plenum and air handler resulted. On the final day, they piped and wired it all together to the Lenox condensers outside. This works was also executed beautifully, just as neat and tidy as can be (and I've seen some sloppy condenser installations in the neighborhood!). So, in a week -- Friday to Friday -- we were up and running. The system worked as advertised: completely even comfort throughout the house -- no warm or cold spots -- and exceptional removal of humidity. We couldn't be happier with the project and Sila's work. Now, about that difficult sleeping porch. After a few weeks, it was pretty clear that the room was under-served. I gave Steve a call, and in a few days he and the crew were back to address the issue. We strategized together and came up with a way to get two more outlets into the room. This solution will require building another small soffit in another bedroom, but that's a small price to pay to get things right. To summarize: fast, professional, and strongly focused on customer satisfaction. I am confident that if other system adjustments are needed, they'll be out here on short notice. It was a painfully expensive luxury to go with central A/C, but we truly feel that we got our money's worth in quality products and services. (Oh, and while they were out here, the project manager arranged for Sila's heating people to replace a commercial-grade circulater pump on our indirect-fired hot water system. Again, an incredibly neat job!)

Scheduling was easy, everything went as planned.

The technician was very friendly and helpful and even found a small problem from the original installation. I was impressed and decided to get a service contract from them on the spot. They credited the cost of the visit to the contract, so it was included for the year. Have used them for various other jobs since. Very pleased with them overall.

They were very responsive and we settled on a date about a week out. The technician called and asked if he could come a little earlier than my 1:00 appointment and that worked for me as well, so he came at - i think - 11:30 and serviced both air conditioners. Since neither unit required any parts the whole process took only about an hour. I was happy to know that my units were clean and ready for the summer. The technician was very polite, professional and friendly.I have used this company for my gas heating system also and would highly recommend them.

Service person was knowledgeable, professional and efficient. Sila installed the system and we have been happy with the system and this follow up service. The special pricing offered through Angie's list was an appreciated extra value.

After the A/C check up and tune up. Sila recommended replacement of a component. We scheduled they showed up and replaced. everything worked fine.

Purchased A/C tuneup as Angie's List Big Deal. Called the company and let them know I had purchased the deal. They were able to schedule an appointment for the next week. They showed up within 20 minutes of the start of the scheduled window, and called me to let me know when they were on their way. The work went quickly, and they had no problems getting into the tiny attic space where the blower is located. Everything took less than an hour. They recommended that I install a secondary drain if I ever had the unit replaced, but I already knew that due to previous leaks.

First they assessed what the problems were, then they narrowed down the cause of leaking and not cooling. The second thing they did was to assess and research the problem some more. Once they specified what it was and came to the conclusion that it could not be fixed, we then decided to install a whole new AC unit. Then they measured the size, set up the crane and planned all of the work procedures. On the day of installing the AC unit, they were there at 6am and worked 16 hours straight. I was surprised and grateful for their dedication. The work was perfect and very neat. Our workplace is a comfortable place to be again and we are saving on our electric bill.

I purchased this "deal" on Angie's List for a furnace check-up and repair. The workman was punctual, extremely professional, and very helpful. He cleaned and repaired my furnace quickly and efficiently. I will definitely use this company again!

THE TECH SHOWED UP ON TIME ( AT THE BEGINNING OF THE TIME FRAME). HE WAS EXTREMELY PROFESSIONAL AND VERY EFFICIENT. DID ALL THE CHECKS, CHANGED THE FILTER, GAVE IT A GAS CHARGE, BLEW OUT ONE OF THE DRAIN LINES AND WAS ON HIS WAY IN SHORT ORDER. HE DID A GREAT JOB DEALING WITH AN OLD SYSTEM. WOULD CALL THEM AGAIN IN A HERTBEAT.

The work went fine with the exception that there was a certain washer that needed replacement that the serviceman did not have with him. He was able to reverse the existing washers and stop the leaking. He explained to me what he was doing as he worked and showed me how to take the faucet apart on my own. He finished the work within the one hour I paid for with the coupon. The reason I would not use again had more to do with the regular price of $160 per hour that they charge without the coupon. Overall I was very satisfied for the value I received with the coupon.

Peter showed up a bit earlier than was planned, which worked well for me. He inspected the air conditioning system that we inherited form the previous owners of the house. He also inspected the system's unit outside. He made recommendations and minor "repairs," which consisted of adding insulation to the pipes that were lacking it. He also recommended parts which we could purchase and have installed.

Sila contacted me quickly to suggest and then finalize an appt time. The tech called to update his arrival time (the hot summer broght a lot of service calls). He was super in all respects- well-informed, experienced, thorough, communicative. Sila did not install my whole-house system but I would have no reservations using them as my service provider.

I purchased a special because it sounded great. If I remember correctly it was an A/C tuneup for around $100.00. The problem is that apparently it was for only one zone system and I have three zones. In addition it turned out that my new high efficiency systems require more expensive filters. I think there should have been some basic questions asked when I called to schedule the appointment so that I would have understood what the service incuded or did not include. When the service man arrived he did not have the proper filters so he installed less expensive ones and had to return a week or two later to install the high efficiency filters.

. Prices for the extras seemed a bit high, otherwise all went well.

Technician arrived on time, was polite, and wore boot covers in the house (it was a rainy day). He tested the system and changed the filter. Overall a pretty simple job, and Sila did the job quickly, neatly and efficiently.

I bought an Angie's List coupon for a routine inspection of my aging central A/C and found the serviceman both professional and polite and efficient, so when the unit finally died, I called them back to handle a replacement. The agent arrived and spent about 3 hours taking measurements to a**** my home's thermal profile and a day later presented a few different options. Excellent explanations of my HVAC situation were delivered without any hard-sell tactics or pressures. I opted for a complete replacement of condenser / coils *they were circa 1986) as well as my furnace, which was near enough the end of its life that it made sense to do it all at once. The installation team was well-organized, polite, neat, and professional, each with a distinct role, including a QC guy at the end who perfomed tests on the airflow etc. I'm very satisfied and intend to take them up on a 5-yr service contract. What a relief not to worry anymore about heating and cooling in our home.

The technician arrived on time. Did a complete tuneup of my central air system. Checked all parts both indoors and out. Very knowledgeable. Would definitely use them again.

He was very thorough and explained every detail to me. He was very knowledgable and knew exactly what needed to be done. He had to replace a few parts.

Appointment made. Customer service agent called to confirm date and time day before service was to be performed. Technician arrived 3 hours early, due to 'cancellation', however, did not call to tell me that he would be arriving early. Service done, everything was okay. Took personal check w/o any problem.

Sila was very easy to work with. I bought a "big deal" to get my A/C tuned up and even though they had to re-schedule a few times they were very prompt and professional when I they did come out to get the work done. They identified something that was wrong with my unit and did an additional quick fix for a small fee and provided a quote on site to get it fully repaired if I decided to do so in the future.

I was shocked: he did not make any recommendation, he looked at the current water heater, wrote down the serial number, did not even looked at the gas entry point (gas is already in the house, thus the switch to gas heated water). He did not speak about the system or what it would take and asked me if I would choose one of his options and give him the job if he was to write up a proposal...What kind of sick way to do business is that? I said that I would make a decision after reviewing his and other plumbers offer. When he heard that he told me that his time was precious and writing up a proposal took time, thus he was not going to do it. I was shocked and told him that we were done. I am very surprised since I have used Sila to fix my AC and they were very good.

It went very well. They came twice: once to diagnose the problem, a second time after they got a replacement coil to install it and refill the system. I was very impressed with their professionalism: they made sure I understood every step of the process, responded to all my questions in a very detailed manner and even asked at the end if there was anything they could do better!
