The guy came and diagnosed the problem. He estimated that it would be $10,000-$15,000. I called another company and they were able to fix the problem for about $3000.

At the beginning, Craig took the time to explain the basics of how the entire furnance worked and what parts might next need to be repaired, which, as a first-time homeowner, I REALLY appreciated. He listened to all my questions and gave me good advice on individual parts, pricing, and the service plans before getting to work. I was impressed with his professionalism and am ready to sign up for the extended service plan.
Description of Work: Craig came in to service the furnace. He recommended replacing the high vent and Extrol, seeing that the former was frozen up and the latter had neared the end of its regular life. With the Angie's List discount, the service was only $89, which I can apply to future maintenance plans.

My gas boiler had not had proper regular maintenance for several years. I used an Angie's List $89 coupon for the basic maintenance and inspection. The person who came out was on time, and courteous and professional, and I think he did a very good job. He provided the maintenance and inspection, cleaned the boiler and did several safety checks, and (as expected) a few things turned up. I had him replace the flame detection sensor (paid $158 for this, on top of the coupon), which he had available in his truck and did quickly and neatly. Also I will need to replace the water circulation motor (which has been making noise). I did not have that motor replaced at the same time, as I will probably need to have some other repairs done at the same time, and want to do them all at once. The plumber was very good at letting me know different options. He was also good with my dog (!).
Description of Work: Inspection and maintenance on boiler; also replaced flame detection sensor.

Tech was punctual and professional. He provided part numbers for possibly hard to find igniter/sensor for my 30+ year old furnace.
Description of Work: Technician tested & cleaned gas furnace. He found it 75% efficient, which is quite good, considering its age. As it is an old furnace, the tech advised that spare parts may prove difficult to find, and that I may want to search for an igniter and sensor before I have a major issue. Though the furnace is simple and reliable, I appreciate the advice. I will use Sila again, should I ever have the need.

I called Sila Heating & Air Conditioning to verify that this could be done early on. They were able to confirm that they were going to perform the service today and then this morning they called to say that they are unable to make the appointment and wanted to schedule it for too far in the future. I had already taken the day off work and do not appreciate the short notice, I cannot wait a few weeks and need to get it done before then.

Overall the services rendered were fine. They seemingly went through all parts of the system as part of the tune-up and I'm glad we got it done. When the work was done, my wife was the only one home at the time. The tech (who she said was friendly and professional) said he found a few minor issues with the system that we may want to have repaired. He went over our options but when my wife said she wanted to discuss them with me first, he wouldn't leave any information with her. He took the descriptions of the options and their associated prices with him when he left. It ended up feeling like we were getting a sales pitch from one of those cut-rate window companies. I understand that maybe they don't want us to shop their price but it seemed to go a bit far. It left a sour taste in my mouth and we resented the tactic. We didn't hire them (or anyone else) for any of the follow up work. I know they are highly rated and likely do great work but our experience with the estimates left us mildly disappointed.

They were awesome. Bobby was very nice and personable. He found the leak and tightened the hose and had to refill the coolant. He explained everything and was very thorough. Bobby also replaced all of the AC vents in the house. I had expected to have to wait a few days, but Sila was able to get someone out the same day.

I took advantage of an Angies List deal for an AC tuneup for $89, for up to a $159 value. They did have to reschedule the service once but gave adequate notice and were right on time for the revised date. The service tech was very pleasant and seemed to do a very complete service, including spending more than 40 minutes working in a very hot attic. He was able to improve the performance of my system and did a good job of documenting the work he performed. My only issue is I found their labor costs, $180/hr, kinda high and the Angies List deal only reduced my bill by $129. Still, the work was well done and I will consider using them again.
Description of Work: Routine maintenance of a central AC system. I have one outside compressor and two air handlers located in my attics which is a little unusual. I also had them add refrigerant to the system to improve performance.

Overall, pleased with their service and would use them again.
Description of Work: Purchased the "Big Deal" for furnace service. They arrived on time and were very professional. I was surprised to discover that certain aspects of the routing maintenance visit were "optional" and thus not included in the purchased deal price; never like the "hidden fees" approach. However, they explained every step of what they were doing and gave me an outline of things to watch out for with our furnace.

There was a drip in my basement. I had a coupon from Angie's List for an hour of plumbing service, so I called. They couldn't get me in for about three days, which was mildly annoying. The plumber was very courteous and professional. It took him awhile to find the leak, and he cut holes in my kitchen and bathroom cabinets, before deciding that it could be fixed by cutting a hole in the downstairs ceiling. That's a lot of holes! Still, the leak was in a pipe between floors, which was tricky. As soon as he found it, the repair went quickly. Altogether, he was there for about three and a half hours. My coupon covered the first hour, and then the next two and a half hours cost me $400. (Plus, an additional $14 for the pipe.) The plumber did an excellent job of cleaning up after himself, and replacing everything as nearly as possible to its original condition. Unfortunately, some damage was perhaps inevitable.
Description of Work: Find leak and repair it. There was dripping water in my basement. The plumber took a couple of hours to find out the source, which turned out to be a pipe between my (second) floor and the first floor ceiling. He replaced part of the pipe and clamped the rest.

It went as this sort of service is expected to go. I let him in, showed him the furnace, left him alone to tinker with it for a while and returned to hear the results. One exception to the excellent review: The service person mentioned that there was a small crack forming in the boiler and that the furnace needed to be replaced at some point in the near future. They told me I would receive a quote in a few days. Its been over a month and I never received said quote. I never followed up on it, but I expected one to arrive. That is the only reason they got a B on professionalism.

The AC inspection and tune-up was done as explained in the Angie's List deal I purchased. We had been concerned about the AC system since moving in the month prior, as it seemed like the air coming out of the vents wasn't very cold. The service person quickly id'd the problem - the seller had the system hooked up incorrectly such that non-compressable gas had mixed with the refridgerant. That had to be replaced at $90 a lb and in total with labor cost us well over $1100. This was very expensive, but seems on par with what this is supposed to cost, and was entirely out of this company's hands. They completed this repair quickly and efficiently. I'd use their service again.
Description of Work: AC tune-up as described in the deal I purchased through Angie's List Pumped out old refridgerant and replaced with new.

A few minutes after I bought Sila's Big Deal from Angie's list, I called and scheduled the appointment for the work. This took just a few minutes and was handled professionally. Jim, the plumber from Sila arrived a few minutes early, which was fine with me. To speed things along, I turned off and drained the old heater before Jim arrived. I also made sure he had a clear path and open area in which to work, which he appreciated. Total time to complete the work was about 2 hours. I was impressed by the new, solder-free technology being used to hook-up the copper water lines. I'd never seen anything like it before but it seemed like an excellent improvement over solder. A short while after Jim left, I noticed a little water on top of the heater. I traced it to an old joint in the copper plumbing, directly above the heater, which I guess got disturbed during the installation. I called Sila and Jim was back in a short while to replace the bad joint. All is fine now. No fuss. No muss. Sila and Jim have been great to work with. He answered my questions, was friendly and just got on with his work as you'd hope all professionals would.
Description of Work: My hot water heater (14 years old) developed a slow leak so I was in the hunt for a replacement. Shopping around here on Angie's list and elsewhere, the cost to replace my hot water heater ran from $1100 to $1400. Then I found Sila's Big Deal for a new 40 gallon gas fired hot water heater for $779, installed. I bought the deal yesterday and less than 24 hours later the heater is installed and warming up as I type. The work performed: Remove the old hot water heater. Install new hot water heater. Fix bad joint in old copper line.
