The appointment was easy to make and the servicemen arrived on time. Quick and accurate assessment and thorough cleaning and check-up of the entire system. I will use Sila annually and in an emergency.
Description of Work: A prompt and professional interaction. The serviceman was informative and knowledgable as well as gregarious and I learned more about my heating/ac unit than I could have anticipated. He also replaced my thermostat that was over 30 years old; a valuable suggestion.

The pilot light had been going out on the boiler, he explained what was happening, and cleaned out the boiler and we have not had a problem since. He was very efficient and did give some pointers, but did not do any "pushing" for additional services, which I appreciated.

Imagine being 1,500 miles away from your rental property and being contacted by your renter that the furnace would not start. The furnace is/was very old so thoughts of replacement, cost, finding a reliable contractor, etc became fresh in my mind. What to do! I searched on "Angie's" list for a heating contractor. Found several with excellent ratings "A" and noticed that feedback and comments for Silva Heating & Air Conditioning included well over 300, most with overall rating of "A". I contacted them at approximately 9:30 in the morning, asked if they could have someone come to the house that same day. They checked their schedule and indicated that someone would be there between 3 and 5 pm. Sometime after 3 pm I received a call from the contractor indicating he was at the site and said that because the furnace was to old he could not service it and also that the chimney was no longer usable. My next questions was how much to replace, could it be done asap and would they fax/email me a proposal that day. Sure enough I received the proposal and was satisfied with what I needed in the contract and that it could be completed the next day made my decision easy. I contacted the contractor, sent them back the signed proposal with approval to start work the next day. I want to add that we were in contact with each other on the phone several times. He said he would be on site at 7:30 the next day and he was. The job was completed by 5 pm on-time. Feedback from my renter indicated that the company and personnel working on site was very professional. I want to add that the contractor sent me vial email pictures of the completed job. I have no "don'ts" as I am more than satisfied with the work performed by Sila. Bottom line I would not hesitate to use the company again and would certainly have no problem recommending their services.
Description of Work: Sila Heating & Air Conditioning replaced gas furnace. Work included reconnecting existing duct work, electrical wiring, installing new flue pipe exiting outside of house and installing new condensate pump.

We asked for a system balance since some rooms seemed to no be as cool as others, and they checked that as well doing a simple air flow test. After they completed the end of year service check, they put together a proposal of problems they discovered with our 14 year old system. It was a tiered proposal and included some long overdue maintenance on the heat exchanger, as well as a permanent fix for our drain backup (install an active alarm-interlock system) and some smaller issues like replacing a relay with arcing switch contacts. The tiered price ran from about $500 - $2500 (which included replacing our flexible ducts with rigid ducts to improve air flow and one was found partially collapsed) . I chose a mid point to get the interlock replaced, the HE cleaned, and the relay replaced for $1100. They wanted to add a one year maintenance contract for about $400 which I passed on.
Description of Work: They (2) were very professional and completed the services that were included in the deal (system check, replacing the filter, investigating a problem we had with leakage when the drain backed up, and checking the refrigerant under simulated load.

Sila engaged in a deceptive business practice by taking $49 with the promise of providing an on site visit to my home and an hour of plumbing labor ("Big Deal" purchase). When I called them to schedule a visit in order to honor my "Big Deal" purchase they refused to provide the promised services. Their reason for not honoring my purchase is that I am not in their service location even though my address never changed since the purchase of these services.

Grabbed an Angieslist deal for a boiler tune-up for $89. Sila Heating & Air was very responsive via email in setting up the appointment. The day of the appointment they called to let me know when the technician had been dispatched. The technician arrived within the 2-hour window of the original appointment time, he was polite, performed a thorough check of everything, and spent 10 minutes reviewing the condition of our boiler and the things we want to keep an eye on. Overall, a positive experience. I would definitely consider Sila for routine maintenance or other HVAC projects.

The job was done right and I'm confident I made the right decision by using Sila to replace my heating equipment.
Description of Work: They provided an estimate on replacing my heating system. Sam was very professional, knowledgeable, and customer service orientated. I bought a 'big deal' coupon for two furnace tune ups. The guy from Sila showed up, and instead of doing anything resembling a tune-up, just pointed out some flaws and told us that we needed a new furnace, despite the fact that ours was currently working. It's a 19-year old propane system, that is old but not at all past the end of its life. He did the same for the second furnace in the house, indicating that we should replace the not-broken blower unit, and not doing any tune-up work. And then, 5 minutes after he left, a salesman from Sila called to try and sell us on new units. Additionally, the serviceman turned the power off on the furnaces and I had to go reset them after he left to get the heat back on. He also showed up 2 hours late. So, I paid 180$ for a sales pitch and nothing else. What a ripoff.

Member, Thanks for your feedback. My technician deemed that the system he turned off was completely unsafe to operate and had to be replaced. We train our employees to follow all local codes and practices and if a system is leaking Carbon Monoxide we need to completely shut down the system. I won't be calling them again. UPDATE: As you can see from the reply from the company, they still believe that I was already a customer of theirs. I was not. I was a new prospect coming in needing a furnace, a good 10K worth of business for them. Obviously, they didn't get my 10K and I'm pretty sure that they don't "get" my complaint either.
Description of Work: I tried to get them to come out to estimate a furnace replacement and some upgrades. I was told I needed a technician to do the estimate because a sales person would not be able to accurately estimate the add ons. I was told I would be charged $89 for the tech to come out. None of the other companies I called wanted to charge anything, but I was agreeable because I thought maybe it would be a more accurate estimate and we would get the money back if we decided to go with Sila. The appointment was 10 days out from my original call (the other companies saw me the week before) and Sila called me the day before to cancel because of a service emergency. I called back to reschedule and was given a window of time (9-11am) when the tech would be out to see me. I felt this was kind of unreasonable as I was not a service call, this was a sales call. I felt that I should be able to get an actual time when to expect this person so I could do other things that day. The gentleman I spoke with on the phone did not have other options and treated me like I was a service call. He seems to feel that he was doing me a favor by getting me the next available time slot. I refused to reschedule and will not call again. This company needs to think about its service model. I'm sure that they are responsive if you ALREADY spent money with them, but the experience left me feeling that they already have too many customers and do not need new ones. I feel that they can spend more time training their sales staff to be able to complete estimates without charge and treat a new sale customer like a new sale customer.

Member, We appreciate your feedback. The call originally came in as a "service call" that two of your rooms were having issues heating up and you were also interested in a quote for replacement. The $89 service charge was for a service tech not a salesmen to look at the equipment and determine weather it was in your best interest to repair or replace. Unfortunately the morning of the "service call" we received a call from one of our service plan customers that were having issues with their heating system and were leaving town that afternoon. Since they already had a prepaid service plan with Sila they had to take priory that morning. This is really two reviews in one. First, the guys who came by to take a look at the old boiler and make sure it was safe / working did a good job. They honored an Angie's List coupon (despite the fact I didn't have it on hand) and were generally nice guys. They seemed to do a pretty thorough job on the boiler. That said, they did suggest that the boiler was likely to fail in the near future and I should replace it as soon as I could. This was contrary to three other companies? opinions - all of which said there was absolutely zero leakage and while I should consider replacing it for energy efficiency reasons, there were no signs of imminent failure. All in all, if that was the end of my experience, I would have given these guys a B rating. But I asked them to quote me out replacing both my boiler and hot water heater with a new 96% efficency system that included an indirect hot water heater. Sila doesn't have their techs quote jobs out. Instead, a separate sales guy has to come to your house. He came, looked over things, and said he would get back to me in a week. I figured I'd get a quote via e-mail - like every other contractor I've ever dealt with. Instead, I got a call saying he wanted to come by to discuss our options. The sales guy wanted to make sure all the "decision makers" will in place when he arrived and he wanted me to commit to giving him a yes/no decision on the spot. I told him I was getting quotes from many companies and that I would consider his quote the same way I considered everybody else?s - I wasn't going to give him a yes/no on the spot. This is a classic high-pressure sales tactic and I didn't appreciate it one bit. I finally got him to agree to give me a ballpark figure over the phone, and he said "what would you say if I told you $18,000". Well, I would and did say that it was over 50% higher than the three other quotes I received. He then claimed that the other companies wouldn't support their product as well - to which I asked why I couldn't use him for "support" while getting it installed for 50% less using one of the other highly rated companies on Angie's List? No real response to that one. In short - these guys use high pressure sales people to push you toward a decision. They like doing it face to face because I'm sure people find it harder to tell somebody no when they're sitting in your house. I would never do business with these guys again. I won't say they tried to rip me off, but their sales process leaves a LOT to be desired. Just provide me with an honest, line-itemed quote. That's all I wanted.

Visit went well. He explained the process, and addressed our particular issues directly (compressor valves rattling). The appointment was farther in the future than I wanted initially, then was mis-scheduled. This was resolved with a phone call and they fit me in soon afterwards. Mostly his visit was to see if we could improve the performance of our AC unit (no). He verified that it had a proper charge (yes), but the valves were rattling so it can't run on peak effeciency anymore. He roughly quoted a few options, but didn't hard-sell anything. He was sensitive to our specific situation (a 2 year lease in a rented space), and made suggestions to keep the drain-line open so we don't have water drips in the office space. If we need to replace the unit, we'd use these guys to do it.
Description of Work: A guy came by and checked-out our old central heating unit and handler. He also cleaned-out the drain line from the handler and told me what to expect in the future with respect to lifespan.
