 + -1 moreWhen we moved into our house, we knew the oil tank wasn't in good enough shape to use, but with various family emergencies this fall, it was December before we got around to scheduling estimates from heating companies to switch to gas, plus a heat pump/air conditioner. Nick at Sila was FAST in getting me the estimate the same day he was here, and had people in getting us a functional heating system two days later. It took them a little while longer to get the rest of the heat pump/ac stuff hooked up, but for the urgent WE NEED HEAT part, they had it done the same day they started.
Description of Work: Switched our heating system from oil to gas, with heat pump and Air conditioning.

Description of Work: We had a problem with our furnace and found we needed to replace it. We contacted several companies on Angie's List. Sila appeared to be the most knowledgeable for the complicated system that we had. The price was competitive as well.

 + -1 moreThe HVAC professional showed up on time and did a good job of inspection. Offered suggestions with respect to what's working and what's not. When it came to replacing the A/C filter, he did not have the right size and put in a smaller filter and said he will come back within a couple of days with the right one. He never showed up again.

 + -1 moreOverall it was a good experience. They did exactly what they promised to do and were courteous and professional. Although I recognize the value to preventative maintenance / service, I am still not convinced that it was worth the money to have this inspection performed.
Description of Work: We purchased a "Big Deal" for the Early Bird A/C Tune-Up & Inspection. They inspected our central air unit and furnace and recommended potential service. They were punctual and professional, and did exactly what they promised to do, however I'm not convinced that it was worth spending money just to get an inspection. I would definitely consider hiring them if I ever require service.

My problem was easily identifiable -the pump that circulated the water was not working-, and other time was spent on the diagnostic of other parts of the system to reach the same conclusion and provide recommendation for improving the system. It seem a little bit overpriced for a such a diagnostic.
Description of Work: The furnace was not working and performed a diagnostic of the overall system.

 + -1 moreEverything went very well with the A/C system inspection and tune-up. We have two zones, so the only thing I wasn't happy about was they charged the same amount for the second system. I would expect the second system would cost less than the first considering the economies of scale of doing two together at the same time versus treating it like a separate job.

 + -1 moreThe technician arrived on time. After doing the checkup, he claimed that a "feedback flo" unit need replacement -- I had to take him at this word -- costing me $375. He seemed to have trouble understanding the overheating problem, but decided that it was the thermostat which was causing the problem. Replacing the thermostat cost $222 which seemed somewhat excessive. I called their office asking about the charges, and was told that they had standard fees and that was the correct charge. . What set off alarm bells was his recommendation I should call "the office" about replacement of the whole furnace unit. The experience started to remind me of "chimney cleaners" who inspected chimneys for free, and recommended various services which were found to be first of all unnecessary, and secondly vastly overpriced. To be fair, I cannot say for sure that Sila wanted to do unnecessary work, but I certainly will be getting a second opinion before doing anything like replacing the furnace.
Description of Work: Sila was asked to do check on room overheating, and to do a "check-up" for my house and a rental unit next door. Price seemed excessive compared to N-Star mailings, but went with them because of Angies List ratings.

 + -1 moreMy overall experience with Sila Heating and A/C was positive overall. The knowledge of the service techique and the attention to detail was consistent from start to finish. I would use Sila for future service issues and recommend them to anyone that needs any type of heating or A/C service or new installation.
Description of Work: I purchased a special for a tune up for my gas furnace from Sila Heating and A/C. I recognized the name from newspaper ads and I have seen their trucks locally. I recieved a call from their office and was able to schedule an appointment the same day and got a call the previous day of the appointment telling there would be a 30 minute delay which I appreciated. The service tech was very knowledgeable and professional and explained what he found and seemed to spend more time than just the quickie tune up. He also pointed out various maintance issues and recommendations and service plans that were available when I asked. He was organized and neat and willing to answer the many questions I had. I plan on scheduling the most critical and will follow up with another review of the outcome. Although the cost of the tune up for my gas furnace was very reasonable I could be facing a large follow up bill that I didn't plan on. Considering I never had my system serviced in 20 years I can not fault the service. I will still have Sila do the job and would recommend them based on my experience so far.

 + -1 moreOverall, I have been very happy with Sila. They are incredibly responsive and punctual. The technicians that I've worked with have appeared very knowledgeable and trustworthy. During my heating maintenance they recommended replacing the old water heater (we were planning on replacing it soon). Two weeks later they offered a Big Deal for hot water heater replacement so I went ahead with that. They made an appointment to replace it within days and did an excellent job. In fact, at this point I would have given them nothing but top scores, but then they called to ask if I wanted a maintenance package. I turned it down, but they had my credit card number and charged me for that maintenance package. I'm sure it was an accident, but I had to contest the charge with my credit card company and it just left a bad taste in my mouth. I think I'll still use them in the future, but will definitely use checks and keep my credit card information to myself.

Description of Work: The Deal was to do a furnace inspection. During the inspection, the rep noticed that there was water on the floor and found that the condensate pump was not functioning correctly. In the end, he replaced a condensate pump as part of the work. The rep was very courteous and polite and the work was very neat and efficiently completed. Would recommend this company.
