Sila Heating, Cooling, Plumbing and Electrical

Graeme called me to tell me the prices and I was incredulous. They quoted $1900 to replace the tank under warranty, and $3900 for the Superstor installation. On that very day, Sila was offering a big deal where they would replace a 40 gallon tank for $779 including the tank. So I asked how it could possibly cost $1900 for labor alone. He said it was a more involved job than a conventional tank, and would need most of a day. From my previous job with Sila, I knew that the plumbing rate they quote is $180 per hour, so $1900 implies at least ten hours of labor (there were some unspecified fitting/parts in the cost). I got back onto Angies and found two other plumbers to quote the same job. The average cost for the Superstor replacement option was $2450. However, I decided to replace the unit that was under warranty and the plumber I hired charged me $800, which included the processing cost for the warranty return and disposing of the old tank. They were in and out of my house in 2 1/2 hours and everything works perfectly. You can draw your own conclusions about Sila and their pricing policies. They can do good work, but in my experience, they can be almost arbitrarily high with quoted costs. They quoted me a price almost 2.5 times what it actually cost me to have the work done through another professional with a similar A rating on Angies.

Sila was very responsive and booked an appointment within a couple of days of the call. The technician showed up right on time, and did a thorough inspection of the system. He found a couple of issues, but was realistic with me on what needed to be done immediately (the pilot which was a reasonable cost and we replaced). When he was finished, he took the time to explain what he did, what I need to do going forward, and even some options for replacement of my system. I felt very comfortable with their work, and will absolutely use them in the future.

I was happy with the service. They honored the deal and showed up on time. I would recommend them.

This company installed and serviced my central A/C in the past.. They are very responsive capable and easy yo deal with and at the higher end of the price range, I suspect. Their technician, Bobby, was on time, pleasant, clean and quick in getting this extensive work done. He even dealt with yappy dog appropriately. Left everything clean and in working order. Admirably managed to get to all radiators in the house without help. He was also very knowledgeable and answered a ton of questions re. our system and how to upgrade it to make it more economical. We were very pleased with this service call and signed up for a preventive maintenance plan.

They were able to come out quickly. The job took a little longer than they had estimated and the guy was running a little behind (though they made sure to call to let me know) but the overall work was good, which is far more important to me.

Service person was punctual, professional and helpful. I would recommend them to others.

Overall I was very satisfied with the service. Bobby was pleasant and thorough - he explained what he was going to do and got right to it. When he was finished, he walked me through what he did and discussed the issue with our (very old) furnaces. He showed me exactly what parts were in the worst shape and gave me some back of the envelope estimates about what it would cost to repair/replace them. He left a written report about each furnace for us to reference in the future.

They showed up on time, performed the work, and we were happy with what they did. They did 2 things, but the first was a little more complicated than expected so we ran out of time but we were happy with what did get done. Dealing with them was very easy, simple, and professional. We would potentially use them again. Their normal rate is a little high. Their big deal rate was great, I was very happy with that.

Outside of the fact that the man was very late, the job was great. As for being late though, he called about 5 minutes after the 2 hour window they gave me telling me me he was within 20 minutes of my place. 45 minutes later, I called the company asking what was going on and they said he was 5 minutes away. 20 minutes later, he showed up. Once he got their, he was professional, showed me what he was doing and explained any issues he uncovered with the furnace.

After the technician informed me that the compressor was shot and I needed to upgrade the unit due to the coolant my Heat Pump runs on. I called Sila and set up an appointment for an estimate to replace the unit. Sam, was over an hour late, but they called me twice to inform me he was running late on July 30, 2013. Sam, measured looked at everything and then told me he would get back to me with an estimate and some different options, after calling quite a few times, I finally spoke with Sam on August 5th. Unfortunately I had to cut the conversation short and asked him to email me his estimate and I will get back to him. He emailed me a brochure showing 5 different units ranging in price from $7k to $14k...I had no idea what I was looking at. After emailing him and asking him what the estimate for my actual unit is, he said that I am a 2ton , o24 unit. Was not impressed, I did not know what that actually meant, and an estimate should come with the details of the job and cost of labor for my unit not a brochure...I am still looking for a good HVAC..even though I have used these guys before.

I interviewed 2 other companies and decided Sila was the best choice. Sam, our project manager, was very personable and professional and really did seem to have our best interests in mind. He laid out all our options and helped us pick the right furnace at the right price (one other company was comparable and another was $2500 higher). Also, the price was not an estimate, it was the final price for the furnace regardless of how the installation went. When Jarrod came to do the installation, he was equally professional, answered all our questions, and completed the installation in the time we went to work and came back. Our house is much more comfortable and efficient now. These guys were great, and I would not hesitate to recommend them or use them again.

About a year later, the water heater needed to be replaced. I got 3 other estimates, all off Angie's list, and they ranged from $1750 to $2050 from Sila. Even though Sila's was the highest, I had liked them and decided to go with them anyway. I called and asked if the estimate was still good since it was a year later. The man who answered the phone said he would check and call me back. He called me back later that day and said the estimate was still good, so we scheduled the service for the following week. Then, the next day, I received a call from someone else at SIla saying they could no longer honor the estimate, and the NEW price would be $3350!!! That's an increase of 63% in in year's time, and way more than any other estimate I had received. Needless to say, I went with another plumber. I am sorry to have to write a bad review of this company because I really am only complaining about their bizarre pricing.

My husband down loaded a Big Deal coupon from the Angies List site and used them on this company. We have a five year contract with them. They have been very good. We like the people; they have been very personable and responded to our call. Price wise we did not do any comparative shopping.

The technician was prompt and informative. I can only assume that the tune-up improved efficiency. This is hard to measure!

I was getting an error code on my heater in the middle of the blizzard. I placed a call with the 24 hr service, about 5-10 minutes later I received a call back from Bobby. We talked through what he thought might be wrong (clogged vent on the roof) and after some investigation, he was right! Didn't require a service call, but I will use Sila for future maintenance work on my HVAC system. Thanks Bobby!

They were neat and clean. They did it very quickly. Everything works. The work and the product were excellent but it was pricey. The price was expensive and it was much more than what I expected. They were very courteous. It was good.

Bobby came out and completed the tune up and suggested I get a flame safety system which would cost $125 more. Bobby was informative and seemed trustworthy so I allowed him to install it and paid the additional $125 on top of the $90 I had already spent. So far, so good...

We called first thing in the morning and they gave us an early appointment, came right away, assessed the situation, installed the parts needed and provided a lot of helpful information in a kind, thoughtful, and professional manner.

It was good. We thought we were going to be spending $100 and we ended up spending a lot more. We have an old house and its got steam heat which is pretty unusual, so they were able to address some of the underline problems that we had that the previous owners did not maintain.

Two servicemen (Jerrod and Tony) came promptly, allowed me to demonstrate the problem and fixed it promptly. Very nice and professional, company's prices are a little high but everything else is top notch.

They do know what they are doing, we were very happy. Second time we are using them.

Sila provided a good service tune-up for our furnace.

I was called by the company and asked if my appointment the next day (Friday) could be rescheduled, because they were experiencing many emergency calls from other customers that were without heat. Since it was very cold all week, and I was only getting a tune up, I didn't mind. They asked if I could reschedule for Monday, and I said I would have to check my calendar and call back. My calendar allowed me to be home on Monday morning, so I scheduled the appointment from 10-12. By 11:30 they had not shown up, but called to say they were running late, and would be there between 1-3. The person said "Honestly, we're probably going to be there right at 1" I had to leave for work, but luckily my father in law was staying with us all week, and would be there. My father in law said that they showed up at 2:30. When I came home, I viewed the report, and my father in law explained everything that was told to him by the tech. I noticed that they had put a SILA sticker on my furnace, and a SILA maintenance sheet hanging from my pipe. This was fine, but what I thought was odd was that they also put a SILA sticker on my water heater, which they did not even service. Overall, it's a great price for a service that should be done every year. I had just bought the house and didn't think the previous owners had the unit serviced in many years. I'm glad this service was offered.
