Sila Heating, Cooling, Plumbing and Electrical

The scheduling process was a minor inconvenience since it was very hot and busy, so our appointment was cancelled initially. Other than that, the service was very professional, and the experience level was good. We would feel comfortable calling them for future service needs.

They did a fine job coming in to do the yearly inspection and then pointing out the issue I was having with the system. They came when they said and completed the job even in less time than they had originally stated.

They completed the inspection quickly and I had no problems with the company. They looked around to inspect for any needed repairs. The Big Deal I purchased did clarify the service was for an inspection only. I would not purchase this type of Big Deal again in the future.

Christian (on the phone) was really helpful in helping me when I needed to reschedule, and then he called me to let me know when the tech was on the way. Jesse Burrill (the Service Tech) was professional, friendly, and helpful. Jesse showed me that the expansion tank's diaphragm was shot, and that the hyvent showed signs of spitting some water. When I indicated that I would do those repairs myself, Jesse was really helpful in giving me a few suggestions and some good information to enable me to do the work. I feel like I got my money's worth. I appreciated that Jesse got the job done and gave me extra information, all in a reasonable amount of time (45 minutes, total). I also appreciated that Jesse was honest when he didn't have an answer to one of my questions; I will take his advice and talk to Sila's sales team, instead. (Jesse's being good with our dogs was also a plus.) Jesse I would absolutely consider Sila when we are ready to replace/upgrade HVAC, and I am glad to know their rates. I think Jesse said the normal rate is $89 for the visit (which includes the first 15 minutes of labor), and then $180/hr (daytime) or $280/hr nights/weekends/premium-times. I have no idea if that is typical for the area, or even if Sila has different pricing structures, internally. This was a short visit, but Jesse's professionalism, helpfulness, and friendliness belong on the Page of Happiness ! .

Came out on time, spent exactly 1hr that the Cert. was good for. Could not find why there was not hot water come out of faucet. Got what I paid for, nothing great to say but nothing bad either.

I have nothing but praise for this company. I liked the fact that they were on time and if they are late even by 5 minutes, they call and let you know. I was very impressed with the efficiency of the operation. They are very clean too. There was a little snag with the plumbing done and they offered to give us heaters until they could actually install the heating plant so that we wouldn't be uncomfortable. They also were very helpful filling out paperwork to help me get a rebate and because of it, we paid $1000 less than we were actually anticipating paying. We even got a rebate back on the programmable thermostat. We had an oil tank in the cellar and they even arranged for us to get a little discount on the removal of the oil tank. The young man that came to do the measurements was wonderful and he explained every part of the process.

My experience with Sila differs so much from the other reviews here I wonder if I used the same company as the other reviewers. I purchased one of the Angie's List coupons for a heating system tune-up from Sila. I have a heat pump in my house and the coupon clearly stated that it could be applied toward a ?Furnace, Boiler or Heat Pump Tune-Up?. I'd been having issues with the heat pump in my house, which had been installed by another vendor, and I wanted a third party to look at it to determine what was wrong with it. I asked my general contractor to set up the appointment and explain the problems I was having to Sila, since my general contractor has warrantied the heat pump for the first year. My contractor assured me that Sila was thoroughly briefed about the configuration of my heat pump and its problems and would be sending their best technician to look at my system. The technician showed up on time for his appointment. I met the service tech and personally explained verbally the three significant problems I was experiencing with the system: system freeze-ups after running for 24 hours, low air flow out of the upstairs unit and high electric power consumption even when the system was not running. I also told him I was not running the system because of these issues. The technician then asked if I had put a current meter on the power line to the system to measure the power draw on the system. I responded that I had not, but I had been watching the electric meter to the house, and showed him the numerous wires dangling in the walls (since my house was since under construction) that there were no other devices connected to power in my house. I told him that I am an electrical engineer and I know how to read the electric power meters on my house. I told him, too, when I shut off the circuit breakers to the heat pump system, the high power consumption stopped. He told me that he didn't believe the house power meter and that I needed to personally make a power meter measurement (isn't this what service techs do?) for him to believe that there was a high current consumption problem. On top of that he told me the 5 KWH/day I saw the system using when it was not producing heat was not a high enough power consumption to worry about. 5 KWH/day for phantom power from a device that is shut off and is not doing anything is a huge number ? it is $30/month on my electric bill! The service technician spent 10 minutes in my house looking at my heat pump. I showed him the two interior units and the outdoor unit. After he looked at the outdoor unit he told me he had to run to his truck. When he came back he had no test equipment in his hand ? no thermometer, no air flow meter, no electric meter, no freon gauges ? nothing. He accused me of running the system ?wrong? because I was not using it, and said he needed to do a heating analysis and ductwork study to see if I had the correct system for my house, then told me he would not work on my system, and without waiting for a reply from me, turned around, left my house and walked back to his truck. I was stunned. I felt like my jaw hit the floor. I have never been treated so rudely by a service technician. The service technician never took out any test equipment, accused me of lying about the high ?off? power consumption of the system because I personally did not make a power measurement with a separate meter, told me to run the system more, even though I told him I didn't run it because it was freezing-up, and said he had to do a heating & duct work analysis even though that had nothing to do with the problems I called him in to fix or evaluate. He did not even change the air filter. It was very obvious to me that the service technician did not have the skills to evaluate my heat pump system and was trying to pass the blame on to me for the problems with my system. Two days after this aborted appointment I called Jake McLoughlin at Sila to tell him about my poor experience with the service technician. He told me that the service technician had other incidents of ?poor communications? with customers and is undergoing training to improve his interactions with customers. He offered no explaination why the technician did not get out any test equipment beyond the comment that the technician did not want get into any dispute about the operation of my system. Jake recommened another heat pump vendor who later did find the cause of high power consumption I was having. The only positive part of this experience was that Sila declined to use the Angies List coupon and did not otherwise bill me for this service appointment. The result is that I now have an Angie's List coupon for Sila services that Sila will not honor. I will be requesting a refund for this unusable coupon. After my terrible experience with Sila I don't understand how it has become such a top rated company.

They came out to give us an estimate and said they would get back to us. When we didn't hear from them, we called and were told that they would e-mail an estimate, which they never did. We were left hanging and the work still needs to be done.

Sila Heating & Air Conditioning were good. They were prompt, they seemed to know what they were doing.

Fantastic job from start to finish; on time, quiet, neat and clean job, pleasant technician.

I don't have anything bad to say about the work. They were very honest and told us a bunch of problems with the system that are going to cost us a lot of money. He felt bad for us. He was very clear what the problems were and told us why it was going to cost what it was going to cost. He gave us a couple of options and didn't say we had to go to him.

They called to let me know when they would arrive. Service tech was very pleasant and answered all my questions regarding my heating system and showed me the failed part that he had to replace. I will definitely use them again.

It's a major task to replace a furnace but I think they did their best to keep things clean. Inside, they wore shoe covers and took the old bits out to the back deck. One nice thing was that each person introduced himself as he came in. Overall, we have heat although the new thermostat is tricky to operate. But I am a bit of a Luddite. The Sila folks did a creditable job and left the basement in good shape.

Punctual, professional, and do great work

Relative simple visit. Technician took a good look at our old boiler and cleaned it up for the upcoming winter.

I like that Sila Heating & Air Conditioning is up front about their estimates. I like that the people are experienced and that they don't waste time going back and forth to the store for parts. They are kind of pricey, but they are pretty experienced. They were pretty good about calling me back, but at times they weren't. They are on the high end price wise.
