Sila Heating, Cooling, Plumbing and Electrical

I'm very pleased with the service provided. My appointment was for 8 AM. The company called around 8:15 AM telling me they had double booked my time slot. I was told they could come before 11 AM. This was not a problem for me. The Technician (Steve) did come by 11. He told me how long it would take. He explained a concern about future snaking of the humidity removal drain that had a difficult trap. He showed me a new drain with a much better trap, and quoted me a price for parts and labor. He also pointed out that there is a fracture fault with my hot water heater piping. I had a few questions just about how things work. Steve was very knowledgeable. He took his time to explain things to me. I would use this company again.

They checked the efficiency of my heating system and told me that it was old. I don’t know what work they did because I didn’t see any results. I didn’t see anything coming out of that service. The gentleman was all right, he was friendly, he came in did his stuff and went. As far as the work itself goes, I didn’t think the big deal was worth buying for that service. He was punctual.

They were excellent. They were very professional and did a good job

They did what we hoped for them to do. They were on time with scheduling. They did show up late the day of the appointment. We had no issues with the work they did.

Had them before 1st time was great all around. This time service was ok, but not as good as the first time. The tech was good that came, I think that they over booked there people.

I have a 19 year old Trianco heatmaker gas furnace. It stopped providing hot water. First visit; cost $89 for the service call. Thats okay. The say its the control panel. It needs to be replaced. They need to order the part. It will take a few days. Cost for the part and labor; $667. Questin; for that price why not FEdex the part since i have no hot water and just charge me the extra $20 for the Fedex? 2nd visit; The part comes in 2 days later. They call me and come by. Its another service technician. He told me it would take about half an hour to an hour for them to replace the control panel, etc. An hour later the service technician said that the problem was not the control panel . It was the regulator. And another technician was going to stop by with the part. 2 hours later they said the part was not available. They needed to order the part. This time they will Fedex it. 3rd visit; They have the part. The furnace is fixed, and now, I have hot water. My suggestions to this company are: to have fedexed the first part . Also, with older furnace models, repeated service calls could have been saved if on the first visit they had sent over a tech with the most knowelege on these older units.

We were first impressed by Nick's knowledge and professionalism. He visited the home, listened to our concerns, and provided us with an estimate with different options. He coordinated everything and worked with the different workmen who handled different aspects of the job (plumbers, electricians, etc.) All members of the team were very experienced and professional. The work was done on time, and on budget. Just as the project came to its end, a neighbor's tree fell on our property, taking out the electricity. This delayed the final step in the process -- getting the system running for the town inspector. Nick was available to help us address this problem quickly -- on a weekend. The system works beautifully! We hope to use them in the future for air conditioning. We highly recommend them!

We had purchased a big deal, and the service was good. There were some things that he had suggestions on, and needed repairs, so I requested for a quote, but I never heard back from them, so that was disappointing. I had used them in the past because they had a big deal for a furnace tune up. They were very pleasant to deal with, and seemed very professional, I would hire them again.

The A/C Tune-up & Inspection went well. Billy checked the A/C and replaced the filter that we had already bought. no other parts were used. In addition he discovered that the expansion tank for the heating system was defect. He could replace this right away. It did take about 20 min to get this done. The labor was charged at $ 90 for half hour and a 7.5 service charge. The tank Amtrol ex-30 102-1 was charged with $150. Billing of Sila confirmed that this was the price the normally charge. The expansion tanks list price is $66.10. It can be bought between $40 to $56.91 including shipping. Sila seems to charge significant more for part than other A/C heating service providers.

He had a number of recommendations which he said he would give me. He never sent me those suggestions. As when Sila checked my heating system, there was a list of things I should do. Are these real or do they find things to add to your bill. It's not like you can make an informed decision or shop around. But the AC guy never even sent me the list of suggestions.

From the get-go, I was extremely impressed with Steve Markussen (our sales rep) and the entire team at Sila Air. They provided a very reasonable quote compared to their competition, and a clear, definitive plan of what we should expect and what could/could not be done given our home's construction. Since our home, like many in New England, is wood-frame and older construction, with a finished attic, we weren't really interested in opening up the walls to install ductwork - the high-velocity air conditioning system that Sila offers was the solution. It uses 2" hose routed through the spaces between the rafters/stringers, and the vents (we ended up with between 2 and 4 per room) look like recessed light fixtures with a small hole in the center. Very unobtrusive. Danny, a lead installer with 13 years' experience doing these systems, called us promptly after signing the agreement to schedule our installation, which took a total of 4 days and was performed by himself and another gentleman. They were courteous and professional throughout the installation process - even though I work from home, I hardly noticed that they were here - and cleaned up thoroughly as they went along from room to room, covering everything in plastic sheeting before doing anything which generated dust, then vacuuming up whatever did fall elsewhere. When all was said and done, we had a very clean installation in our attic kneewall space of an energy-efficient air handler and a MERV-16 filtration unit (same filtration level hospitals use for general surgery), along with a carefully-laid-out series of vents throughout the rooms and an unobtrusively-placed condenser unit outside the home (which thankfully is very quiet). Since installation, we've noticed that we don't feel drafts unless standing directly below the vents, which make only a very soft"whooshing" noise when on, and our rooms and attic are consistently at a uniform temperature. The filtration unit makes a huge difference - no pollen whatsoever, a significant reduction of dust everywhere, and the removal of the odor of the vehicles which pass by on the heavily-traveled street we live on. Bottom line: I would highly recommend both Sila and the high-velocity system to anyone looking to economically add central air to their home without the disruption of tearing walls out. Steve was excellent to work with, as was everyone else.

Cost $220 to look at the system (it was a service call). Unfortunately, they could not fix the system. Seemed professional. Did not explain much, but informed me that the A/C system was most likely too old and had to be replaced. I got second opinions, and most of the others were much more informative. I got a quote for the new system, and their price was much more expensive than everyone else (by at least $3000). Did not provide a breakdown or a listing of what would be involved.

I think that they were fine! I don't think there were any more charges beyond the big deal amount.

They were prompt and came on time. Completed maintenance and i scheduled a follow-up inspection which said i needed a new hvac system. i had a second opinion completed by another company who said i needed a new system but that there were some additional maintenance things i could do to prolong life of our current hvac. Sila did not mention any of these solutions, just tried to sell me a completely new system. Both companies missed that the collection pan was rusted and leaking after their inspection which I had to have fixed later.

They replied promptly and set up an appointment for a few days later. The service provider arrived when he said he would. He went up in the attic to check out our air handling system and then looked at the compressor outside. I felt like he did a thorough job - he said things looked in good shape. Since the AC has made it well through this hot summer, I guess he was correct! Based on my (limited) experience, I would feel comfortable calling them if something did go wrong with my system.

My comment is consumer beware. A nice gentleman came by who identified himself as a manager (not a technician) to give me quotes on a new air conditioner. Prices ranged from 7-14,000. I told the manager that I wasn't sure that we needed a new air conditioner, and asked him to assess the situation. He said that he was unable to do so because he was not a technician. Apparently the company simply sent a salesman out to simply sell me a new air conditioner without assessing whether I needed one. We chatted for some time about options, and then the manager left. He promised a quote in 1-2 days. I asked that he itemize (which I strongly advise you to do) so that I could see labor and price for the actual air conditioner etc. I told him that I was also having another company come in to give a quote as well. The manager never followed up -- no bid or anything and it's been close to a week. The next day I had an independent person come into the house who works with my neighbor. He told me that the system could be repaired and I didn't need to replace it. A few points: - This person was a salesman probably on commission. Beware when someone comes to your house to "sell" you an air conditioner when you may not actually need one. A good red flag in this case was that he didn't even assess the system. He just said that I needed a new one because the system wasn't cooling the house properly. - Ask for a itemized quote. Air conditioning systems are several thousand dollars. You need to know what mark up is going into the remainder of the price that you are being given. Companies that won't at least break down your bid in terms of labor, parts, and the actual system are a red flag that you may get taken advantage of. - "Bedside manner" is important of course - the person who came by was professional and well-mannered. However, I advise that you get beyond the veneer to figure out what your needs really are and what you are paying for. Hope that's helpful.

It was an Angie's list Big Deal that I purchased. It was fine. They showed up when they were supposed to. The kid was pretty personable. He kinda looked around and checked things out, I felt comfortable with what he's doing. he told me what was wrong with the unit, what he needed and if I wanted them to take care of it and I did.

I've been a Sila customer for 2 years now thanks to a great track record on Angie's list and I see no reason to change that. During the latest heat wave the AC stopped cooling and I called them after hours on a Friday hoping for someone to call me back and resigned to having to wait since I knew there were many in the same situation. I had a call back withing the hour and a technician was at my door at 11:00PM that evening! He determined the condenser coils were clogged up and cleaned them out as best he could and had cold air coming out of the vents in no time. He was friendly and very professional and clearly new his way around the AC unit. He made sure that the office passed along the information to the maintenance tech who was scheduled to come the following Friday for the annual maintenance visit. Highly recommend without reservations! Thanks Angie for bringing us together!

They are very nice, and they are punctual. They are quick and efficient.

Steve was great. He was very professional and not at all pushy. He gave us quotes for each thing before he did it and gave us space to make our decision.

This is my second experience with Sila. The first one was acceptable - communication was abysmal but the service work performed seemed functional. However, I believe that given their expertise and my lack of it, i believe the technician could have offered some suggestions regarding taking a look at my overall system or suggested maintenance because after the repair a couple weeks back, my air conditioning system started leaking into my unit. I had told the first fellow that i had not used the AC at all last year as it was broken and this year due to heat, I had the repair done to the external unit. So today when the second person showed up to investigate the internal leak, he opened a plug and all of the pent up water in the internal unit dropped all over my living room carpeting. No warning or suggestion that I lay some plastic down - just bombs away. The issue was the drain was plugged and I guess it needs cleaned periodically - so he fixed it but not without collaterol damage to my $2000 wool rug. And of course I was charged for the favor of soaking my rug which i will need a vendor to come in to lift up to dry as it is huge. This couple with their lack of follow-up on additional stuff I was interested in (air conditioning vent, heating maintenance later in the year) and their lack of followup on the schedule for my first job (which was $1200) will prevent my from recommending or using them again. I found them on Angie's list and they are highly rated so maybe my jobs were not enough money as I did read good reviews about their service. However my experience was not good based on the customer interaction.

Sila is my choice for heating & cooling. Annual contracts available. They provide prompt, thorough & courteous service.

I purchased an Angie's Big Deal for $89 for furnace maintenance. Silas did an excellent job. They helped me with the air filter which is very difficult to change in my furnace.
