Sila Heating, Cooling, Plumbing and Electrical

The service person was knowledgeable, professional, and efficient. Plan to use Sila as my "go to" service in the future.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. I don't hire them anymore. They did what they came to do and anything that seemed to be a repair was not repair, it was replacement and I knew it could be repaired and repaired it after they left. One of them that was checking the air conditioning instead of climbing up the ladder must have used my shelves and broke the shelves and instead of telling me about it, he kind of replaced them. It looked like they were good and when I put my clothes back on, it looks like a little crawlspace with wire shelves and you unhook them and you put them flat against the wall, that's what I had done. Everyone makes a mistake but the weird thing is not saying anything and making it look like nothing happened. Hiding gives me a little bit of the creeps so I never hired them back. There actually wasn't anything bad about what they did as far as what they were hired to do but I think professionalism is going to come out of the way.

It was fine. They were very prompt. I think they scheduled it fairly quickly. If I remember, it was within a couple of days. They were friendly and informative. They seemed like they did a good job. This was my first time using this provider. I haven't had any issues since the service. The deal was a good price.

They were contracted to do water heater flush (hope they did it) and an inspection of furnace. They said furnace was in need of major repairs at considerable cost. Fortunately we have a service contract with our oil dealer who did an inspection of their own. Found very minor issues, did the (small) repairs and said we were definitely being "uphold" by the Angie's list contractor.

It worked out just fine. They have been out twice. We do like the work they did. It is an annual contract. I think that the price was good, that is why we did it. They came when they said they would.

I purchased Angies list deal and heard back from Sila on the same day. They had a cancelation and were able to schedule me the same week. They provided written feedback about the furnace and explained one problem that could be an issue in the future. There was no pressure to fix it now or to sell me a service plan. If I have problems with my furnace in the future I will definitely use them again.

I bought an Angie's list coupon for a furnace tuneup and inspection. Sila rep came on time, did the work, advised on a few things. Very professional and punctual. My second time using this service. Very pleased with it and I will look for it again next year.

The hot water heater was checked but the contractor said there was not sediment at the bottom. He said the hot water heater was fine. But he also did some furnace maintenance as the hot water heater got its heat from the furnace. He made some adjustments to the furnace and also some recommendations. This was not included in the Angie's list special, so it was nice he did the work anyways.

Initial suggestion was to replace the 22 year old heater. I brought Sila back to do routine maintenance on my boiler, at that time Brian figured out the water heater was still working and that the circulating pump in the water heater wasn't working and as a result we were only getting hot water that was running through the boiler or was in the bottom of the water heater. All in all, Brian was persistent in figuring out the root of the problem. His professionalism and persistence with the issue was appreciated.

Following my initial review, in which I complained that Sila had not contacted me after I called in response to a postcard mailing offering a pre-season heating system checkup, Sila did respond to my complaint and theysent a technician, who came by promptly at the coldest part of the mid-winter freeze. (I also discovered that I had missed their earlier, timely contact.) The system was working well, but it appeared that it had developed a cracked pipe-joint inside the boiler housing. The leaking water was very corrosive and was rusting out the adjacent housing. At his suggestion, I asked the technician to seal the leak rather than to replace the plumbing was sealed--successfully--and without requiring the replacement of any of the plumbing line. Several weeks later, I completely lost my heat on a weekday evening. I called Sila the next day in mid-afternoon after trying to restart the system myself. Again, their response was prompt. The technician checked and discovered that the hydrostat had failed and had to be replaced. He did not have the part required and left to purchase what was needed, racing to the dealer for a replacement in order to make sure that I would not be left without heat for a second night. The hydrostat was replaced, quickly, and the technician told me that the leak he had previously repaired was holding. My expenses were much greater than I had expected, given that I started with a card offering a reduced rate system check. However, I had heat for the rest of the frigid winter and early spring. Throughout both visits, the technician was prompt, helpful, efficient, effective and very polite--all of which I appreciated.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that we purchased. It was fine. They did a good job. They were certainly professional. It was somewhat serendipitous that they were offering this special when we actually needed someone. There were additional costs but that was because we have more than one zone in the house and we had them tune up the other zones as well so the costs expanded to reflect the fact that we had more than one zone.

Craig came to my house to flush my water heater and do a toilet tune up. Everything went well. He tightened up the flush mechanism on my toilet that I had recently replaced and installed incorrectly (I'm the one who hadn't installed it correctly) and then he flushed my water heater. In the process, he educated me about water heaters, showed me how to turn the water off myself when it leaks (it will be 9 years old this spring, explained how water heaters work and the value of replacing them before they conk out. My neighbor's conked out this spring and flooded our basement. I don't want to have to deal with that. Craig recommended installing a "water bug" device in the basement that will sound an alarm when there's water in the basement.

nothing, the person came and found the system to have high co and told me that my system need to be cleaned at $100 a hour and take about 2 hours and can't guarantee if this will lower the CO. I told him that the cleaning was suppose to be done as part of the checkup (stated in the Angieslist coupon). He refused and after I insisted then took out this air spray and left dust all over. I also had the ARS folks came they did the basic cleanup (opened up the flue and cleaned with brush) without any issue. not sure what the deal is, not too happy about the SILA service.

Plumber was on time, polite, and professional. Would use their services again.

Did tune up and then repairs that they identified

Our toilet tank hadn't been filling up so this is the service we really wanted (of the 2). The toilet flushed fairly well the first few times we used it and immediately reverted to the old problem. The service person told my husband we should replace the water heater. We chose, instead, to buy 2 valves he said we needed for a cost of $200. My husband hasn't called Sila back because he doesn't feel confident that the toilet will get fixed and doesn't like confrontations. Maybe you could pass this on to them for us (please). Thank you.

Tech came to the conclusion that he wouldn't repair our furnace because he didn't feel it was worth it. Quoted me between 3k-7k for a new furnace, told me the brands they install but had no literature on them and seemed to be waiting for an answer. I don't make 1k decisions without research never mind 3k-7k decisions. Left furnace in same non working condition but with a worksheet hanging off it. Charged us $224 to basically tell us we needed a new furnace which wasn't exactly news. Furnace just needed a new flame sensor which I ordered and replaced for $60 (Working fine now) and I will look for another company to install a new furnace in the Spring. Just a business FYI, if you want someone to spend 3k-7k with your company, do not nickle and dime them for diagnostics. To be fair, he said they may be able to 'split the difference' on the $224 if I bought a new furnace. Gee, thanks. I understand that he needs to get paid for his time but he was there for less than an hour and seemingly did very little. Also, you may want to carry some literature about the products you sell and install. I had a very good experience with this company back in January for a cleaning which prompted me to call them again but I have to say I didn't have a good feeling about the second visit.

Craig and his co-worker showed up promptly at 8:00 AM. They were polite, courteous, and professional. They did a great job and left the place clean. When the job was done, Craig took the time to explain the new setup to my wife and me. He did so completely and patiently. I've used Sila before and their employees have always done an A+ job.

Changed a filter; checked that the boiler was working properly by heating up all zones; gave me some information about how my furnace works. Very polite and helpful.

They stuck their sticker on everything in my basement which I did not appreciate as it was a turn off for me. They told me I needed to replace the boiler when they came to clean it. I did have to replace but I didn’t use them for that. The cleaning was great though. I didn’t spend anything more than the coupon for the cleaning.

They did a lot more for less money.

Showed up on time. Very pleasant people and kept me informed as to when they would arrive. They are very nice, polite and forthcoming. Answered all my questions and gave me some extra pointers on how to take care of my system. Very professional and put booties on their shoes to prevent any outside dirt from getting in my home.

The technician showed up on time, very professional and polite. spend about one hour checking the entire system and notify me what to do before the next annual tune-up.

The $59 deal I bought was to include the following items that were not actually perfomed by the Sila service person: A. Water heater: DID NOT: 1. check anode rod, 2. check & test condition of heating element, 3. test temperature & pressure relief valve, 4. test thermostat and water heater shut-off, 5. test water temperature. B. Heating System: DID NOT: Visually inspect heating system (or ask about it). C. Toilet: DID NOT: 1. Replace old flapper (said it was too old and he did not have one in his truck. Told me to remove it and get one at Home Depot and replace it.), 2. dye test toilet. Service person DID clean off the old flapper. The above underperformed items were included in the so-called $59 Flush & Tune-up deal for what was said to be a normal $189 (69% savings) price. My toilet runs and fills a bit every several hours. My reason for buying the 'deal' was to -at the least- have a new flapper installation to try to remedy the problem. Nothing was ever mentioned in the ad that the flapper may not be available by the service person in his truck or that I may be told therefore to replace it myself. Therefore, my $59 payment did not achieve the expected primary reason for buying the service that was offered.

The service was good. They did what they said they would and they were on time. The system has worked well since that time.
