Sila Heating, Cooling, Plumbing and Electrical

The team from Sila was excellent. The salesman who provided the estimate was extremely knowledgeable - which was great because our house is so old. The installation team was equally great - very punctual, professional and efficient. I would highly recommend Sila.

Boiler was inspected and cleaned. Serviceman was punctual, courteous and gave good explanations.

It went well. They came to check our furnace and they stuck to the price of the deal. We had no issues with them. We were also thinking of using them to replace the furnace at a later date They gave us a quote for that.

They were anxious and just drawn-up with some business for themselves. When I had my regular guys come back, they said that it absolutely wasn't true. They didn't charge me more than the big deal purchase because I didn't want them to do anything else. I didn't think I needed anything else. They came and they were courteous and polite. I certainly wouldn't plan to use them again because I think they didn't do me good. I'm sure they did a good job and they knew what they were doing. I certainly don't like being told that I have a bunch of stuff that needed to be done. They were pushing their service plan.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It was great and the guys really worked great. They did really good. They were knowledgeable and had a good price. The price was very affordable and fair.

The person who came in was very professional and completed the work promptly.

My parents bought the water heater offer for us from Sila Heating & Air Conditioning from Angie's List. I could not be happier with the service and products that we received. Since our water heater was over 20 years old when it broke, I could not read the serial number or make or model so Sila sent out a Technician ( at no charge) to see what model we had and to give us a recommendation and estimate. Nick Vakay was very pleasant and professional and came up with a few different options for us to consider. We decided to upgrade to a larger unit, have the old unit removed and have our gas boiler serviced. We were told that Service Technicians would arrive at the house the next day between 10:00 and 12:00 and that the office would call when they were on their way. I got a call a little after 10:00 and they arrived before 10:30. They introduced themselves and got right to work, it took them most of the day because there was a lot work to do including the clean-up which they did and left the basement better off than when they arrived. Before they left they reviewed everything that they did with me. While servicing the gas boiler, our head service technician John Gulstrom made extensive notes and reviewed his recommendations with me. The heat in our house has never worked well and we just resigned ourselves to the fact that it was regularly 50 degrees in the house during the winter and we would wear our coats indoors. We used space heaters and electric blankets to keep warm. After I got divorced and it was just myself and the three children in the house I was not aware that the boiler needed to be serviced so it had been many, many years since it had been touched. John showed me how one of the pipes was dripping directly on an electrical box and had been dripping for some time because of the sediment that you could see on the pipes and puddle on the floor. Obviously he could not stress more that this was a very dangerous hazard and recommended that we get that fixed ASAP! There were a number of other issues that he went over with me, he made four lists of options: urgent repairs, moderate repairs and repairs that would enhance the workings of the system. He went over everything with me and at no point did I ever feel pressured into buying anything that I did not want. The repairs were expensive so I decided to take some time to think about it and discuss it with my parents. I decided to schedule the maintenance at the end of the week. A day later, the boiler died during the night and it got down to 38 degrees inside the house - I called Sila first thing in the morning and they were very compassionate and told me that they would have a technician come out as soon as possible and would call when they were on the way. I got a call around 10:30 that a tech was on the way to the house.. I was surprised to see John Gulstrom again! He heard the call go out for an emergency tech and he wanted to respond because he was familiar with the unit and told me he was relatively certain that it was one of parts that failed that he recommended be fixed on his scheduled visit later in the week. He pulled the boiler apart as I looked on and one by one eliminated the source of the problem. Unfortunately it was a costly part that he had not anticipated having to repair ( some sort of piping that feeds the gas to the boiler). He ended up staying all day and doing all of the repairs that he was going to do later in the week. I highly recommend Sila and John Gulstrom - he was fantastic. He went over every repair with me and went above and beyond by going through the entire house with me and the kids and showed us how to open all of the vents on baseboards and he programmed the automated heating thermostats so that the house would remain at a constant temperature. I can't tell you the difference all of the repairs have made, for the first time that I can remember our house is warm -and it is warm throughout, no more cold zones as you move throughout the house. It is marvelous to have heat and hot water!!! Sila Heating and Air Conditioning is a class act, I highly recommend their services. They have excellent technicians and superior customer service. We purchased a big deal for Sila Heating & Aur Conditioning $59 for water heater flush and toilet clean up. Actually on the whole it was pretty good. I think they were very competent to do things. They have tendency to upsell. I have used them more than once and so the tendency to upsell might be my one reservation about them but the people that they have send have been good and seem very knowledgeable to the extent that I can tell. They work has seem to be okay. They charge the right amount for the original service but they discovered and recommended other things. In new things it’s hard to tell of course but because we definitely need these things or there is a little bit of upselling going on and that I’m not in good position to discern because I’m not an expert. I can’t remember it was some time ago probably was in the end of last year like in the fall maybe because it hasn’t been 2014 of that I’m sure. They did things that I think it’s called the pressure release belt something like that needed replacing and since that it a potential safety issue I certain went along with that and the toilet it turned out to be was actually hard to do than they thought it would be because it had a kind amount of expanders flapper thing and so he actually had to back out to get somebody to get the right stuff and he did that and he came back and installed. It had happened that between when I made the call just to get the tune up and check up they are actually start to deal with the problem with the toilet and so it kind a timing. He fixed it. He is straight forward to fix because the standard flappers that he had on his truck didn’t work and he had to go back and get one. It did work and the toilet has been fine since. I think they are expensive. They are very good about notifying - coming when they said they are going and all of that. I probably will. There is some suggested work on our heating system that soon or later I am going to do and it’s very expensive and so I’ve been holding off. I might have it next season.

The technician came in to clean and tune the boiler. After inspection, he recommended that the filter be replaced, and spoke to me about controls that could be added that would increase efficiency. He gave me the costs for the additional options. I decided to proceed with all options. Everything was done to my satisfaction in 2 to 3 hours. I was pleased with the experience. Will use them again in the future.

Homeowner for 25 years. This was by far the most pleasant and professional plumbing job to date. John was vastly knowledgeable and engaging, reviewed and explained each procedure he went though, answered questions in detail, discussed a range of alternative heating solutions I might want to consider when the time comes. A most pleasant hour and a half down in the basement talking about steam. Thank you John, thank you Sila.

They were on-time, responsive and waked us through what the issue was and gave us to choices to remedy the situation. Once we decided they fixed the problem that day.

The service tech was informative and helpful, suggesting various things that could improve my overall system performance. My only complaint is that he failed to clean the two upper chambers in my boiler (it's a 3 pass system) after cleaning the main combustion chamber. I suspect either this was an oversight or he didn't realize they were there. I cleaned them myself in about 10 minutes with a brass brush but I'm sure he would have returned if I had complained. All of his other services were thorough and professionally done.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. They were good. I paid an extra $180 for the part. They did a good job. They were fine. They didn't charge me extra to come back out. I bought a contract with them for yearly followup.

They were excellent. Totally professional and did a great job. I would highly recommend them to anybody.

They deducted the original cost of repair from the cost of the furnace and A/C. They arrived in a timely manner, both times. They were professional and polite. They completed both jobs in a timely manner. The new furnace works well. I would use Sila again.

They responded quickly and the guy who came to my house for the estimate explained the whole process very well. He also gave me directions on how I should approach the homeowners’ association people regarding the installation.

Over all, I am very happy with this company and the service I received.

Made good suggestions and the work did help even out the heating a little upstairs, but it was very expensive.

Service tech, Craig arrived ahead of schedule & ready to work; very personable guy. Craig was very informative & willing to answer the many questions we had with regards to a possible upgrade and/or replacement for our current system. He gave us great recommendations as well as resources to help guide us with our future decisions; couldn't be more pleased & would definitely recommend Sila Heating & A/C as well as ask for Craig again!

After our furnace was shut down by Sila, I tried to seek a second opinion. A man from another company (found on Angies' list) came and carefully checked my furnace. The conclusion was although my furnace was quite old, I should still be able to use it for a year or two. Also he checked CO level using some monitors in the house and found it was safe. Sila did not contact me as promised but I called them and ask for a quoto after about a week. Another person came and showed me their listing price. I found Sila has much higher price tag than the other two companies I contacted even all of them will install the same machines from Lenox. In all, I am not very happy with my experience with Sila because 1) I did not get the service I paid for. The young man just simply shut down my furnace; 2) The young man who came exaggrated the problem without going to the details; 3) After shutting down my furnace in Nov., (the service was done Friday morning and I believed there was time for them to contact me that Friday and the following week) Sila failed to contact me; 4) Sila asked a much higher price for the same machine and serivce than other two local companies; Thanks for reading this and hope everyone had a better experience.

The tech seemed capable and informed. He suggested that we bring in a chimney person to fix the chimney outlet on the boiler to avoid problems with carbon monoxide. That was a useful suggestion.

I purchased a water heater replacement deal here on Angie's List. My water heater and associated plumbing were soon to fail.

They were punctual, courteous, and neat, and I was really happy to get the job done fast. I have not graded them on price, because in the interest of time I did not seek comparisons, trusting their Angie's List rating as evidence of fair pricing. The one negative I found, and it's probably to be expected, is that they strongly encouraged me to buy a more elaborate, costly model (although of the appropriate size) than I felt I needed. I went with the lowest cost model, and have found it just fine so far. I suppose this advance to anyone buying a furnace -- don't assume you need all the bells and whistles if good enough is good enough.

I looked on the furnace manufacturer's website and called one of the recommended service people for a second opinion. He came out and looked at it and ran some tests and said the heat exchanger was not cracked, and the fuel ignition and flame safety were fine and did not need to be replaced.

SILA will come out to start up in spring. Can not wait to use in summer.
