I am very happy with the work done and the system installed. I had a Mitsubishi brand installed and it works wonders with the heat and humidity. I don't even know the units are on half the time because they are practically silent. Next best thing to central air!

There was a scheduling glitch of some kind initially, so the technician who was supposed to come evaluate my space before the work started never showed up. But the company was apologetic and got somebody else to come the next day at a time that was convenient for me. Whenever I called, it was easy to reach a person, not a recorded voice, and everyone was responsive and friendly. The guy who came to do the work itself was friendly & efficient, and when he finished, he left my place clean, with furniture back in its original location. Someone from Sila followed up later to make sure everything had gone as expected and to see whether I had any questions about how to use the unit.

It went very well. They were very thorough. Actually, it didn’t cost much at all because we had a coupon. We had already purchased a deal through Angie’s List that had something for the water heater but our water heater went before we could use it. So they let us apply it to the air conditioner unit so that they could service that, clean it and get it ready for the hot weather. It cost us $20 but it should have been over $100. We bought one of the special deals for $60 and then we had a coupon that they had sent out. It only cost us $20 so we were very pleased. They took very good care of us.
Description of Work: Fila Heating and Air Conditioning did cleaning and changed the filter. It had been 6 years since the air conditioner had been installed and never serviced so we were doing a routine service on it.

Our furnace died late on a Friday in February, and Sila came Monday morning and installed a new one. They didn't take advantage of our middle-of-winter-with-no-heat situation to charge a premium for the furnace or the installation. But their true commitment to their customers came through after the install. The inducer motor (which exhausts the combustion gasses) in the Lennox furnace produced a high-frequency whine at a low decibel level?it wasn't loud, but it was unbearable. Because it was not loud at all, Sila could have blown it off; our gas water heater, which sits right next to the furnace, is "louder" but without the high-pitched whine. They did exactly the opposite?they sent their top tech guy over three times: to replace the inducer motor; add insulation; and, on the third visit, bring a Lennox engineer to see if he could find the problem. The owner (Jake McLaughlin) took personal responsibility for getting the problem solved, and his attitude was consistently "whatever it takes." The end result is a dramatic reduction in the offending whine?it hasn't gone away entirely, but it is now confined to the room in which the furnace sits, which is fine with us (we don't spend a lot of time sitting next to the furnace!). Kudos to Sila, Jake, and his technician John for sticking with this when they could easily have walked away.

Everything seems to have gone well. Scheduling was straight-forward, the gentleman was punctual and courteous, and he did the work as promised. Unfortunately, he had to replace a part that ended up adding more than 100 dollars to the total bill.

There were no troubles with scheduling and they arrived on time when they said they would be here. Everything worked out fine. I didn’t have them complete any additional work but they did provide me with some recommendations. I felt that the price for the additional work that they quoted was higher than I expected and I would probably go with another company for those repairs. I was very pleased with the work that they did.

It worked out well. They came out very quickly. It didn't cost more than the big deal purchase. Their punctuality was good. Their technicians were pretty knowledgeable. I wouldn't say it was an over the top experience but it was very satisfying. Their pricing is not as competitive as I hoped it would be but I think it's fair.

Ironically about 2 weeks after I purchased a Big deal for an A/C tuneup, I noticed there was a water leak in one of the bedroon ceilings. As this was directly below where the attic air handler was I decided it was the best time to call Sila to perform the tune-up. Technician arrived on time and proceeded to check things out. Diagnosed that the pipe that lets the condensation drain outside was clogged. He performed the checkup and gave me a price for installing an EZ trap (which shuts the unit off it water starts backing up again) as we as some other more expensive fixes that could be considered. I thought the Ez Trap installation was pretty expensive given that it was a $15 part, but decided to go forward with that. Given the age of the system, I decided against the more expensive repairs as I assumed it would soon be time to replace the system and aside from the leak the A/C was working like a champ. However, after the technician left I noticed a couple of things. First, the A/C would make a loud noise upstairs when it turned on. This noise was coming from the return vent. Second, for some reason, it couldn't keep the house cool anymore. I called Sila who in turn gave me the technician's cell number. I called a couple of times and never heard back. Although I can't say for certain the technician did anything wrong to the system, I do find it very ironic that it stops working immediately after his visit. Recently, I turned it on again for the season and things are still just as bad...nowhere near the performance I was getting out of the system before Sila's visit. Now I am going to need to call another technician to fix it.

A/c wasn't working well. Provider checked coolant level; first used the wrong gauge and claimed the coolant level was fine. Then realized the wrong gauge and checked with the right gauge. This time it appeared a few lb's below where it should be. Checked immediate area around condenser for leak with a spray bottle (not a leak 'sniffer' machine). Claimed it may take 'many hours' to find the leak and would probably be better to just 'top it off once in a while'. Overcharged for time (sat in van writing the invoice, whilst talking to a friend on his cell phone - i.e., not very efficient use of time, and wasted time using wrong gauge initially). Refund was given by main office for overcharge.

Pressure sales tactics. . I was not impressed with Sila. The visit started with the Sila representative asking me what are the things I read in Angie's List reviews that made me decide to contact Sila. This was reminiscent of a time when I was shopping for a used car, and the salesman was trying to get me to "sell the car to myself". The salesman proceeded to take all of his measurements and make his calculations, and all the while continued to be more interested in whether other contractors were doing the appropriate measurements, in attempts to disparage other companies. The ironic part of this was that he completely neglected to realize that the ducts into our main living space are significantly undersized for the space. Two other companies measured and made calculations and recommended upsizing ducts to this space. We knew that the ducts are undersized, because that room does not get adequately heated in the winter, and relies on supplemental electric baseboard heaters installed by the previous owner. When I asked Sila about the duct sizes to this room, he took some measurements and said that he didn't know and he would have to talk to their engineers. At the end of the visit, he said that he wanted to have a second meeting at a later date to review the proposals in detail, but this was under the condition that we would provide him a "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" at the end of the meeting. To make this worse, I spoke to him by phone about a week later, and then I was told that they don't provide their quotes/recommendations in advance of this follow up meeting. He was essentially telling me that I would not have time to do my own due diligence - I would be given their recommendation and need to give them a "yes" or "no" on the spot. I replied that I do not operate that way, and that I would be happy to entertain their proposal if they provided me the quote by email and allowed me time to compare with other proposals. I also said that I would be happy to sit with them to review the proposal, but that I would not be pressured into giving them a response on the spot. Please keep in mind that we are talking about an investment between $13,000 and $22,000, based upon other quotes. This is not a small decision. In the end, when I made it clear that I would succumb to their pressure tactics, they elected NOT to send me their proposal at all. This says a lot to me about the nature of the company, and I am amazed that they have so many positive reviews on Angie's List.
Description of Work: Requested recommendations and quote for replacing current oil furnace to a new dual-fuel HVAC system with an air-source heat pump (for heat and A/C) and backup furnace. I requested quotes for options of a new oil furnace vs switching to propane.

Service was exceptional--from the time I first placed the call for service until the end of the house call. Provider was on time, efficient, professional, honest, and did an excellent job. The standard tuneup turned into advice not to turn on our A/C due to the presence of mold. We were quoted prices and service packages ranging from $1200 (for just the "basic repairs") to $2500, for a comprehensive service package. Without the funds to put toward the repairs, my husband and I sweltered through the summer, resolving to set aside cash and fix the problem the following Spring. A subsequent second and third opinion revealed that all that was "broken" was a coil, which we replaced for $150.

They cancelled and they did not show up when they said they were going to be there. The plumber was a really good guy and he got the job done in about 4 and a half hours. The cleanup was good. They said that the water heater could not be flushed because it was too old and they did not do the toilet tune up.

Really? He did nothing. My problem is that my thermostat doesn't seem to work right - when the a/c is turned on it's cold, no matter what the temp is set to. He basically said I should "play around with the temp" on the thermostat. I told him I've done this for years. He said he's afraid if he replaces the thermostat I may have the same problem. But he could do it if I want him to. What? He asked to look at the heat and a/c units and asked when did I replace them last? Ridiculous, who replaces these things if they're not broken? We bought this house with the units brand new in 1999. Then he asked to do an inspection, which should be done once yearly. Maybe so, but do people usually do this? I said ok, since maybe he'd discover the problem that way. An hour later he comes to me with a laundry list of things that need "fixing", capacitor, etc. Total? $2,000 approx. I told him "not today". He seemed bummed, which is a red flag to me. I guess he's on commission. Did my problem get solved? No, he doesn't think it can be solved. So I paid $400 for an "inspection" (after a $30 off coupon). Sucks.

I've had tune-ups done in the past and I was a little surprised that they didn't at least test the valves on the individual radiators. But the big deal was for a furnace tune-up and they stuck to the letter. I might use them again but I would ask what their tune-up entailed.

I've looked at Sila in the past for HVAC work but used other providers because they are so much more expensive. I'd recently noticed our hot water heater was starting to leak, and coincidentally Sila was offering a Big Deal for a hot water heater replacement at about half the usual cost. They contacted me within a day of my purchase on Angie's List and were able to fit in the work two business days later due to a cancellation. The technician was prompt, answered all my questions, and finished the removal and installation in a matter of hours.

They came out and did the inspection; they found that the A/C needed some additional coolant and there was a leaking valve seal in one of the heating units. They came back out and fixed both units. They were at my home for about 4 hours. They were outside a lot of the time, so they weren't underfoot. We are planning on using them for tune-ups in the future. They were right on time, courteous, and responsive.
