I was concerned that it might be necessary to open up the wall to get at the pipe connection and stop the leaking. They were able to get to the connection through the small opening for the shower head and fixed the problem.
Description of Work: There was a connection to a shower head that had gotten loose inside the wall and was leaking.

I was not here when they did the work, but my wife was here. It was delayed a day by one of the magnificent snowstorms that we had. I spoke with them over the phone when I scheduled the appointment. The first guy that came out was very professional. I was a little disappointed that I felt like they said they would call back the next day, and they did not call back, to the extent that I thought that they had dropped the case. However, I did get a call from them; they were actually working on it even though they did not give me quite the level of feedback that they had led me to expect. I was a little disappointed that I did not receive any sort of estimate or expectation of what I would be charged. On the other hand, they showed up when they said they would show up and did the work when they said they would do; it appears to have been done well. I would use them again in the future if necessary.
Description of Work: I used Kerivan-Lane Inc to do a warranty replacement of a Buderus Indirect water heater.

My natural gas furnace stopped working on one of the coldest nights of the year. I have two young kids, so this was a real emergency. I called this company based on the positive reviews here on Angie's List. The person I spoke to on the phone took my information, including the nature of the problem, and said someone would call me back within 20 minutes. After 30-40 minutes went by, I had not heard from anyone, so I called back. They then said that my call was in the queue, and I should hear back within 10 minutes or so. Still, I got no call. I called back a third time, and shortly after that, I got a call back. The guy who called asked a few questions (that I had already answered for the first person I talked to), and then said he had to call his boss and get back to me. A few minutes later, he called back to say that, because I was not an oil customer of theirs, they could not help me that night, and that they were too busy. I understand that they were busy that night. It was very cold and I'm sure a lot of people were having problems. However, on my initial phone call to them, I told them that I had a natural gas furnace. They did not say anything about only servicing their oil customers. It then took over an hour of repeated phone calls to be told that they couldn't help me. Unfortunately, the temperature in my house was dropping by the minute, and my kids were getting cold. If they had told me right away that they couldn't help, I could have spent that time finding someone else. I really could not afford to waste that time. Very unprofessional.

I set up appointments at multiple dates for the same problem; either someone shows up without calling first (e.g., when I am sleeping or at work) , or no one shows up and they cancel the appointment without asking me. When someone did show up to fix the radiators the first time, they apparently missed the issue of malfunctioning zone valves. Then they sent Michael, who I should say is pretty good at what he does, and a very decent guy. But, it is very hard to get him. He figured out that the zone valves were the problem, and came back to fix it. Update: I was told by my wife that Kerivan Lane called about this report and apologized. I do not know if I will use them again, but this was a decent gesture.

The new Boiler came in two working days, the removal of the old and installation of the new boiler, plumbing and wiring immediately took placed. Glad to be a customer of Kervian Lane.

Two difficult things happened with this company. I got only five minutes notice of the tech's arrival at 8 in the morning, at which time I was asleep. I called Chris Lane, the manager, and thanked him for sending someone on the appointed day, and then I asked, if such short notice was standard, or was it a fluke? This caused him to go into a verbal tirade to the effect that when the appointment was made the previous day that I had demanded and insisted on an early morning/first call appointment. As I tried to interject reality, the tirade swept right over me and didn't quit for quite some time. When it finally abated, I told him that he must have mixed me up with another customer and that I had never requested first call. The second problem, besides Chris' temper, was one of incompetence. The tech's assignment was to repair a leak in the bathroom faucet. He put new spindles in both faucets and failed to adequately flush out the line. I don't know what that means, but I know what it does. It left the pressure from the hot water valve extremely weak. When I spoke to Chris Lane, the manager, about this, I got harshly bawled out. He assured me, with much venom, that just changing spindles could not possibly have caused this problem. I told him that the problem was never there before his tech replaced the spindles, but he insisted that this was impossible. In a later phone call, he gave me two hypotheses as to what was wrong with my house that could have caused the problem. After this I spoke to several plumbers, as well as the manufacturer of the faucets, and they all agreed that these hypotheses did not make sense. In my next phone call with Chris, he again yelled at me and told me that it would take 8 days for the tech to return to address the problem. I then contacted Angie's List again to search for another plumber. I did Chris the courtesy of calling to cancel the appointment and notify him that I had obtained another plumber. He asked why. I told him about his temper and the botched job--that set off tirade number 3, whereupon I hung up the phone. If you're a masochist, you might enjoy this treatment. Otherwise, I recommend steering clear of this company.
Description of Work: They were supposed to fix a leak in the faucet in my bathroom. I also bought a shower head from them.

They were friendly and knowledgeable. I don't dislike anything about them. Their prices are as good as anybody else's prices. The quality of their work is fine. There was a time when we made an appointment and they didn't show.

Kerivan-Lane have always professional, timely, courteous and excellent. Since I signed up with them in 2003 I have never looked for another provider. Whenever I call, they respond. They are ALWAYS there for their customers. They don't just bring oil, they service your furnace, trouble-shoot and even provide plumbing services. When Mass Save allowed me a tax incentive for replacing my furnace, I chose them. They were very knowledgeable about the systems that were out there, and provided me with a significant range of options for my price range and stated goals. They quoted a price and did all the work in even less time than they estimated. They do everything right from a labor perspective, but really, it's because they care about the customer, which is rare to find these days. They replaced my furnace/heating system last year and, they even sent me a note about LOWERING the monthly bill I pay (incredible!) but I had to write because today they went beyond their previous high standards and totally blew me away. Last night, as we were all getting snowed in the Snowpocalypse 2010 I noted our oil reserves were below 1/8th of a tank. I wrote them an email at about 11pm saying "I'm low, whenever you can please fill me up." At 10am the next morning, before even the city had come to plow the streets or the guy had come to shovel the driveway, Kerivan-Lane pulled up, shoveled out a path to the oil tank, and filled it up. Nothing could have better exemplified their commitment to excellence. I still can't believe what I saw. Thank you, Kerivan-Lane! "A customer for life."

I suggest not using Kerivan Lane for your oil delivery service--they are not careful and they are not thankful to have been notified of a serious error.
Description of Work: Kerivan Lane mis-delivered 37 gallons of oil to my home, rather than to my next door neighbor, who had recently moved in. I have not been a customer of Kerivan-Lane for more than 7 years, after switching to a different oil company. On 11/12, I called and notified Kerivan-Lane of the error, worried that my neighbor might not have enough oil. The driver who made the error showed up at our home on 11/13, apologized for the error, stated that he had been confused because our oil line had the color cap his company uses (while standing at my front door that is clearly marked with our street address). I later received a bill from Kerivan Lane Customer service stating they "would not benefit from a misdelivery,"requesting payment for the misdelivered oil, and telling me to notify our current oil company that our tank was now full. Well, I certainly did not benefit from paying them $73,76, but I did send payment. Their letter never thanked me for notifying them of the error. I called our oil company, which had filled our tank to the safe upper limit on 11/9. They said the Kerivan Lane driver was in danger of overfilling the tank and we were lucky not to have had an oil spill in our basement.

I made an appointment for the annual burner maintenance covered under the service agreement. It's a busy time, so the appointment was a couple of weeks later, but the timing was perfect for me. A few days before the scheduled day, the heat went off. I called and asked if getting the heat going again could be rolled into the service visit, which was no problem. The office agreed to call me on my cell when the technician was on my way, so I could wait somewhere with heat. The technician arrived in the middle of the scheduled 12:00-4:00 window. He was very nice. He said that the problem with the furnace was probably entirely due to the needed tune-up, and apparently it was. While he was there, he showed me how to replace the air filter, and told me when I should plan to do it. I've always found Kerivan-Lane to be very responsive, with very nice staff who are willing to answer questions.

The sales person came on time as promised on 10/21, carefully examined my existing system, and said he would email me a quote. A week went by, and I did not receive a quote. I called him (10/28), thinking that maybe his message got lost in cyberspace. He apologized for the delay, and said he would get it to me the next day (10/29). Now it is 11/5, and still no quote. Apparently they are doing so well, they are not interested in more business.

Except for one day when they had equipment failure, everything was right on time. For 2 -3 days, two men worked a full day on installation.
Description of Work: Replaced old oil burner and water heater. Disposed of all stuff. Came on tiime. Were very professional. A pleasure to deal with. Everyone on their phone line knew who we were.
