Mike's team was in and out quickly - the organized the permits, got the work done well and quickly. Mike was very responsive and available via cell, text, or email. When I asked them to return to move a planter back into place, they did quickly. The only negative thing I could say (which isn't a reflection on the company as a whole, but just the team of roofers) was that I wished they had moved things back into place before they left in the first place) and my neighbor complained when they were sitting on his lawn during a break (maybe they should have asked)? But these are minor things and the job was well done and it was really easy to reach Mike with questions or concerns.
Description of Work: Viola Roofing replaced our entire roof - we have a very tall building with dormers, and one side of the roof had 4 layers of roof on it, so it was an expensive job. He gave us the most detailed quote, used quality materials, and was one of the most reasonable of the roofers we contacted.

I called Viola about repairs to our roof & gutters, and about installing a small piece of coil on one part of our roof to melt ice in the wintertime - not a huge job. Mike Viola called me back within 24 hours to say he'd gotten the message, but that they're not doing repairs right now. Just wanted to leave a favorable review for a contractor who takes the time to call folks back, even if he can't do a job. I applaud this kind of professionalism! Will keep him in mind for future estimates, for sure.

A small portion of my living room has a flat roof with a balustrade (fence) around it. The tar roof had failed, and I needed it replaced. I also had a section of gutter bend out of shape from an enormous icicle. Viola took the balustrade down (at my request, replaced the roof, including some of the underlying boards), and replaced the section of gutter. There was an 8-week wait to get this done, but that was what they had predicted when I signed the contract. The actual work took about 1-1/2 days, a little more than planned, but was done on two consecutive days. The did the work, and cleaned up completely leaving no mess. The owner was present at the start and end of work, but not throughout, but that was fine with me. I note that it hasn't rained, so I can only assume that the roof is OK, but it looks OK.

Viola gave us a fantastic estimate for a new roof. Brian did the estimate quickly, efficiently, and even printed it is his truck when he was done. He answered questions extremely well, and his initial quote was 4,000 less the the other quote we received. Our decision not to use Viola was personal and not because of quality or professionalism or price ( I strongly recommend Viola as one company you should get an estimate from. Most importantly, Brian make me understand the work involved and the options available better than anyone.
Description of Work: Just an estimate, but it was fast, professional, and so very helpful.

A representative from Viola came to do a walkthrough and estimate. He printed out an estimate and contract in his truck and left us with that as well as a folder showing the shingle options we could choose from. I had interviewed 4 roofers and really appreciated that he could give us those materials same day. They called about a week in advance to notify me of the day they would do the house. They came a day early in the afternoon, and were able to finish the garage, which also included repairing some rotting wood before laying down the new roofing materials, and cutting down some overhanging tree branches. They arrived early the next morning and did the house roof. Afterwards, I walked through with someone from the company to make sure everything was done and cleaned up. They did a quick, professional job and we are very happy with the results.

I waited a full year before writing the review to ensure all the work they did would stand up to the weather, needless to say it did. These guys showed up with a huge team and like a hurricane. They had the entire exterior of my house stripped in 2 days and had a brand new roof after 3 days. A month later I had a new roof, insulation, vinyl siding and gutters. They did a great job of cleaning up the property of trash and nails when they were done, the quality and workmanship is great. The owners of the company are focused on the customer and customer satisfaction. Whenever I had a concern about how the siding was being done vs my expectation Viola had a foreman on site in a few hours and instructed his crew to adjust. When I saw some thunderstorms rolling through the area when my house was in shambles the foreman was there immediately with several huge tarps. A few weeks after the job was done I noticed a small leak around a vent pipe and within 24 hours someone was on my roof repairing it. These guys are true professionals, know their profession and how to treat customers right. I highly recommend them.

Dumpster and materials arrived the day before work commenced. The crew started very early in AM and finished the job around 4PM. Wow did they work hard! The roof looks beautiful, the yard and garden beds are spotless. And the dumpster was picked up promptly the next day -- which I really appreciate! It was pleasure to have Mike and his team do this work... and he helped me out by replacing a ridge cap on the old slate section of the house. In summary, very well organized and executed!

Mike and his crew were very professional. Mike came frthe estimate and came back with his proposal pretty quickly. Once we signed him up, we intentionally waited until spring to actually have the work done. At that point, their scheduling setup was a little odd - on two occasions we received an e-mail essentially saying "We'll be coming in 3 days with a dumpster then doing the work on the next day". Twice we had to write back adn say "that date actually won't work for ur". Once we finally found a good date, the work was great. Mike's crew was vry conscientious about care and cleanup We've found only a nail or two plus a few scraps of plastic wrapping, but the crew was working on a very windy day so I don't fault them for this at all. The roof's been in for 2 months now. Looks great and no complaints.

It went very well. Mike responded to my initial quote request very quickly and was the cheapest out of the 3 quotes I received. He was very responsive via phone and email. Once we decided to work with him he immediately gave me a date range of when they would begin work. A few days before that estimated date he called me to say that they would be delivering the materials the next day and starting work the day after. His men showed up on time, there was at least 10 guys, and they began work right away. They completely re-did the entire roof on our 115+ year old Victorian in one day even though we were told it could take up to 3 days. We noticed there was some damaged siding in the back of the house after the work was completed, I simply emailed Mike a picture and he was out within a few days to replace the damaged siding. We didn't have to schedule time, he just came out while we were at work. I really appreciate Mike's responsiveness, integrity and timeliness during this project. The new roof looks great and we will definitely be recommending Viola Roofing to friends and family.

Viola showed up first thing on a Monday and basically had the roof completely stripped and weather tight by the end of the day. To say that I was surprised is an understatement given the size of the roof. He had a huge crew to get this work done, very well organized and professional. The skylights required some inside work due to the skylights no longer being available in the same size and those turned out great! Had some rotted facia boards which were replaced. Cleanup: to date have only found a few nails (which I expected a lot more given the mere size of the roof). They went over the lawn numerous times with the magnet and rake to make sure they got all the debris and nails (we have 2 little kids so this was very important). By the end of Day 4, the job was 100% complete and the house looks like it's brand new. Kudos to the Viola crew for a job well done. It's nice to find a contractor that does what they say they're going to do and in the time they stated.

Viola Roofing was awesome to work with. We initially contacted them for a quote on just replacing our gutters, since they were very old and falling down. After the crazy winter we had (including several ice dams!!), we decided to reach out again for a quote on a new roof as well. Mike and Brian were both super responsive and easy to work with. They came out for quotes very quickly both times and got back to us via email in a couple days. When it came time to do the actual work, my wife and I were both amazed at how efficiently and quickly they completed the job. Their crew did a great job getting things done fast and (more importantly) right. They also did a good job cleaning up after themselves when all was said and done. We would definitely recommend Viola Roofing again and will be keeping them on our short list of contractors to call for future projects!

09/04/2014: Signed the contract for gutter replacement and sent a check for half the total amount. The contractor gave a verbal five year warranty of gutters. Did not hear back from the contractor. Contractor did not send me the copy of contract with his signatures either. 09/22/2014: Sent a follow-up email to ask if contractor was going to do the job. 09/30/2014: Contractor finally replied that he'll be dropping off the gutters at my property for installation later. 10/06/2014: Gutters were installed. Winter of 2014: One of the gutters broke. May 2015: When asked contractor to repair under warranty, he replied the warranty did not cover 8 feet of snow and ice sitting on top of gutters. It only covered leaks.

They were the first roofers to respond to my phone call. The gave an honest quote and were not pushy about doing work that did not need to be done. They seem very reliable.
Description of Work: Gave an estimate for replacing shingles. I have not had a chance to have the work done yet.
Spring?s here and with the winter horribillis of 2015 behind us many thoughts are now turning to newly leaking roofs. Last spring I was charged with coordinating a bidding process for our leaky roof. It was an interesting experience. Before I dissect my process and give my review let me start with a bit of advice. When requesting a bid specify you want it to"architectural spec?. ?What in the heck is that?? I hear you asking (don't worry I had the same reaction). It's the details you know, where the devil hides. Basically, it's what will be done; each step of the process; materials used and how much (including manufacturer names); and when it will start and finish. With a wide range of roofers that could potentially respond to RFQs (Request for Quote) asking them to conform to an industry wide acceptable format will help you to compare and separate the wheat from the chaff. My experience: I made about 8 phone calls to perspective bidders (all garnered from Angie?s List) and four responded. I was lucky; the first bid from Viola Roofers became the gold standard. Here's a quick rundown of my experience: Bidder A Viola Roofing: Gave the detail I needed to make an informed decision from the start. They came to assess the roof soon after my initial phone call and within a week I had a full spec bid. I also asked them to include a "what if" bid on the head house that needed to be newly sided; additional skylight replacement; new gutters; and light masonry work. They answered questions quickly and with a genuine openness to follow-up anytime (and I did). Bidder B: Came by, was very nice, took measurements and answered my questions. A week later when no bid arrived I called. His response: "this project is outside our scope". Now this was a head scratcher. Our roof is a simple flat roof atop a three-story city building. This company has been in the roofing business for three generations it also advertises itself as a contracting and construction company. Whateverrrrr! Bidder C: Was very cordial, came to see and measure the roof but when the bid arrived it was not to architectural spec and $15,000 higher than Viola?s. Bidder D: Was three hours late for our meeting. His review of the roof and taking of measurements struck me as disinterested. Yes, I know that's a subjective observation but salesmanship is salesmanship. His bid was more than doubled Viola's and had limited specs. One line-item did have me puzzled: a crane rental at $3,600 (close to 10% of the total bid). On the face of it the crane made sense, but why wasn?t this cost listed on the two other bids. Did I miss something? So I called Mike Viola and asked him a simple question: "Mike, how are you going to get the material up to the roof and debris down." His reply, "we carry it." That was a defining moment; Viola wasn't padding the bid and he got the contract. Everything was done as promised and on-time, including the "what if" portion of the work. A week before the work began Mike called so we could coordinate activities for the start date. This included making provisions to move cars so a dumpster could be dropped. Viola Roofing took care of all the details. The value for the money was good; the workmanship excellent; and their bid came in significantly lower than the others. The team cleaned up the backyard of loose debris. The test came this winter, and a big test it was. I am glad to report the roof did not leak! When the weight of snow accumulation became worrisome Viola Roofing was hired once again to clear the roof and break-up ice dams along the side of the building. Would they be asked to bid on future projects? YES, YES, YES! A few parting tips: If you know nothing about roofs, their replacements or construction (I was 0-3 on all the above) run to your computer and start learning! If you have friends in the construction business ask questions and keep asking them until you understand terms that will be contained in the bids. Research each bidder?s standing with the Better Business Bureau; your state's licensing authority; and the AG's consumer complaint division. Research the manufacturers that produced the roofing materials. And finally I didn't use the roofer's standard contract. All the bids I received also doubled as contracts. Not a good idea from a consumer point of view. On advice of friends in the biz I purchased a copy of the The American Institute of Architects contract form and adapted it for this use. Yes, it?s a process but if spending $25,000 is not a walk-in-the-park for you, then it?s time well invested. If $25,000 is a walk in the park for you, what in the heck are you doing on Angie?s List? PS Thanks ED & PP PPS Thanks Angie?s List (and also for Indiana, you?re heroes in my book!)

They were great and I'd definitely recommend their services. We were quite impressed with the thoroughness of their estimate and professionalism, and hired them for that reason. Their pricing was right in line or a little lower than other estimates that we received. They were quite efficient and got right to work when they showed up and completed the work in one day, which appears to have solved our leak problems. Brian took the time to explain everything while he was there and after they were done. Leading up to the repair, Mike was quite responsive any time that I had a concern or question. He called to follow up on the work as well, which I appreciated. I noticed some debris left in the skylight and they came back right away to clean it. We originally wanted the work done in the fall, but due to scheduling it got pushed back to the spring. Given the brutal winter we had with cold and snow, it wouldn't have been possible to do the work, so I don't fault them for it. Just be aware that it may take some time to get the work on the schedule -- this seems to be the case with all the roofing companies I called, though. No one I called was available right away.
Description of Work: Repaired leaks in our roof, installed a new skylight.
After getting a number of quotes from contractors agreed to use Viola to do some basic repairs on my garage and home based on his excellent estimate and the general feeling I got from Brian who came out to do the inspection for the estimate. He was prompt for the appointment and was very through pointing out some areas of soffit that I had missed and making sure to note to repair those as well. Unfortunately the work had to be put on hold as he came out for the estimate just before all of the snow storms this year and we had to wait for some of that to melt before his crew could get out. My only minor complaint is that his crew just showed up to do the work one day. Not a big deal as it was all outdoor work and he told me I didn't need to be home, it was just a surprise to pull into my driveway and have them there. A heads up would have been nice. Will definitely use them again for any outdoor contracting work in the future, very pleased with the work they did.
